2. Foundation
 Types of Footing :
1. Trapezoidal Footing
2. Combing stepped Footing

 Trapezoidal Footing :

• Sloped or trapezoidal footings are designed

and executed. The amount of reinforcement
and concrete used in the sloped footing
construction is less than that of raft
foundation. Therefore, it decreases the
utilization of concrete and reinforcement.
 Combined Footing

• The purpose of a combined footing is to distribute the loads of two or more

columns efficiently to the soil while avoiding excessive differential settlement
between the columns.

 Combined footing is provided under the

following situations :
• When columns are close to each other
and their individual footings overlap.
• Soil having low bearing capacity and
requiring more area under the individual
footing.
• The column end is situated near the
property line and the footing can not be
extended.

 Form work of footing :

• The form work is temporary construction

material used as a mold for structure, in which
concrete is placed and in it harden and matures.
When the concrete has reached to the strength
the form work is no longer needed and is
removed.

• We use steel formworks of rectangular and

wooden form work, but wooden has
disadvantages, like possibility of warping,
swelling and shrinkage of the timber.
 Fixing form work :

• We observed how much they care while fixing form works. It should
be properly fixed to avoid loss of concrete material and unwanted
shape on the structure.
• Proper fixing also minimizes great chiseling to remove the unwanted
shapes. The foreman’s check that the form works fixed for elevation
columns are vertical enough by using plumbing bobs.
 Time Period of removal formwork

Formwork Type Minimum Period of Removing

Form work for Footing 1 day
Form work for tie beam 1 day
Form work for column 1 day
 Clear cover :

• To ensure good bond between reinforcement and

concrete.
• To prevent the reinforcement from corrosion that
may result from being exposed to the environment.
• To prevent the reinforcement from bursting out so
that it will be retained in its position.
 The thickness of clear cover provided is based on
to which structural component it has to be applied

• 75 and 50 mm clear cover used for footing

• 40 mm clear cover used for column.
• 20 mm clear cover used for tie beam.
• 25 mm clear cover used for slab and stair.
 Quantity of Footing :
• Formula for quantity of trapezoidal footing : = H/3 ( A1 + A2 + √ A1 X A2 )
• We Find all the required quantity of concrete for Trapezoidal footing.

 Casting of Footing :

 Checklist for Concreting RCC Footings. Things to keep in mind before starting concrete
works at site are :

• Reinforcement inspection as per drawing, lap length, correct lapping guidelines as per
code.
• Inspection for concrete cover to reinforcement.
• Inspection for alignment of structural member as per drawing.
• Availability of concrete vibrators.
• Proper safety PPEs and safety measures.
• Availability of slump testing equipment.

3.Beam
 Tie beam :

• Tie beam, grade beam, ground beam

and plinth beam are not different, Tie
beam is to tie two columns for resisting
two movements by vertically and
horizontally.
• Tie beams may be at any level. If these
are at plinth level, they are called
plinth beams where it also helps in soil
retaining of inner house area and also
offers as support for walls.

 Form work of beam :
• Starting of form work ,first step provide beam bottom (ply wood).
At our site beam bottom size is 230 mm and 300 mm wide . MS
plate and ply wood form worked used at our site. Than form work
size of depth is 450 mm.
4.Column
• RCC column is a vertical structural member which transfers loads from beam
and slab directly to the underneath soil. That means an entire building
stands on columns. Most of the building failure occurs not only for design
fault but also for poor construction practices.
• Therefore it is essential to know the construction procedure of RCC column
appropriately. Lets learn the basic construction process of RCC column.

 Formwork of Column :

• Columns carry the load of structure and

therefore they’re vital. It’s vital to align
them for uprightness in order that load is
transmitted properly. The column
shuttering ought to be sturdy enough to
bear the pressure of fresh and wet
concrete and stay in position throughout
concreting.
