What’s in this lesson? ◻ We’ll look at different appearances and how to describe people. ◻ We’ll learn questions to ask about people’s appearances. ◻ We’ll research different fashion styles and describe them. Word Power Activity 1 Page 58 Word Power Physical Appearance ◻ We can describe people’s physical appearance in many ways, such as: 🞑 Hair 🞑 Age 🞑 Looks 🞑 Height Hair ◻ When we talk about hair, we can describe the length, style, and the color of the hair. 🞑 Length ■long, medium, short 🞑 Style ■straight, curly, bald 🞑 Color ■brown, blonde, black, white, gray, red Hair ◻ Remember: you should describe hair in this order: 1. Length 2. Style 3. Color ◻ Example: I have long (length), straight (style), brown (color) hair. ◻ Example: She has short, curly, pink hair. What hair does she have? She has long, straight, brown hair. What hair does he have? He has short, straight, white hair. What hair does she have? She has medium- length, wavy, green and black hair. What hair does she have? She has long, wavy, blue hair. Age ◻ When we talk about age, we usually talk about how old someone is. 🞑 Young ■Babies, teenagers, young adults. 🞑 Middle-aged ■People in their 40s, 50s, 60s 🞑 Elderly ■60 and older How old is he? He’s elderly. How old is she? She’s young. Looks ◻ When we talk about looks, we usually talk about whether or not they are attractive. 🞑 Handsome (usually for men) 🞑 Good-looking 🞑 Pretty 🞑 Plain-looking ◻ Remember: how someone looks is an opinion. ◻ People usually have different opinions. How does he look? I think he’s good- looking. How does she look? I think she’s pretty. Height ◻ When we talk about height, we usually talk about how tall someone is. 🞑 Very tall 🞑 Pretty tall 🞑 Medium-height / Average 🞑 Fairly short 🞑 Short How tall is she? She’s fairly short. How tall is he? He’s pretty tall.
