•An informational text is defined as
text with the primary purpose of
expressing information about the arts,
sciences or social studies. This text
ranges from newspaper and magazine
articles to digital information to
nonfiction trade books to textbooks
and reference materials.
Identify its types either: factual description,
factual recount, and procedural text.

•Authentic texts are
print, audio and visual
documents created
and used by native
speakers.
•Informational text is
a subset of the larger
category of nonfiction
(Duke & Bennett
Armistead, 2003).
•Its primary purpose is to
inform the reader about
the natural or social world.
Different from fiction, and
other forms of nonfiction,
informational text does not
utilize characters.
•Further, it has specialized language
characteristics such as general
nouns and timeless verbs that are
not common in other genres. Some
examples of this structure would be:
“Dogs bark;” “Some sea snakes are
quite deadly;” or “Apples can be
red, yellow, or even green!”
•Nouns are either names of
person, place, things or
events. Nouns used as subjects
are either singular or plural in
number. Examples: Pupils, Ana,
Cactus, Child, books, clothes,
data, tsunami, couple.
•A verb is an action word. A
verb agrees with its
subject in number.
Examples: dance, writes,
grow, conserve, practice,
thrive,
Read the short text and
identify the language
features found in this
text. Identify at least 5

Weather is the continuous changing
conditions of air around us. These changes
can take many different forms, including
wind, rain, and snow. They influence how
people live every day. When it snows or
rains, many persons are often forced to stay
indoors. Weather also affects one’s choice of
clothes. One wears light clothes when the
weather is hot and thick, close- fitting
