Oman in the Early Islamic Era • Islam spread to Oman in the 7th century during the Rashidun Caliphate, with the acceptance of Islam by Oman’s people. • Oman became known for its distinctive Ibadi school of Islam, which shaped its religious and political identity. • The Omanis resisted external influence and sought independence, establishing their own leadership. The Al Said Dynasty and Modern Oman • The Al Said family rose to power in the mid-18th century and has ruled Oman since then. • Sultan Qaboos bin Said (r. 1970-2020) is credited with transforming Oman from an isolated nation into a modern state, focusing on infrastructure, education, and healthcare. • Oman’s neutral foreign policy and focus on peace and diplomacy have made it a respected country in the Gulf region.
