Lesson 2-Projectile Motion

The document outlines the concepts of projectile motion, defining it as the motion of an object following a curved path in two dimensions (horizontal and vertical). It explains the characteristics and calculations for horizontally and angle-launched projectiles, including time of flight, horizontal range, and maximum height. Additionally, it provides sample problems and assignments for practical application of the concepts discussed.

Lesson 2
LEARNING
OBJECTIVE
1. Define concepts involving projectile and
projectile motion
2. Describe the horizontal and vertical
motions of a projectile
3. Cite examples and explain the horizontal
and vertical motions of a projectile under
THE MOTION OF THE DIVER UNDERGOES..

PROJECTILE MOTION
is a form of
motion where an
object moves in a
curved path in 2
dimension
(Horizontal and
Vertical)
PROJECTILE
-an object that
is thrown or
undergoing
projectile
TRAJECTORY
motion
-the curve-like
path undertaken
by a projectile
HORIZONTAL MOTION
(X-COMPONENT)
• neglect air resistance
• There is a constant horizontal
velocity (Vx)
• Horizontal acceleration is 0.
(ax=0)
• We call the horizontal distance as
VERTICAL MOTION
(Y-COMPONENT)
• the force acting upon in this
motion is gravity. (g or ay or ag)
• constant acceleration due to
gravity is always -9.8 m/s2
(negative indicates direction)
• Vertical velocity is not constant
(Vy)

• Combining these dimensions
produce trajector or path called
parabola

HORIZONTALLY LAUNCHED
PROJECTILE
Horizontally launched projectiles
are projectiles that are launched
with an initial velocity from an
elevated position and follows a
curved-like path to the ground.

velocity but
no initial

Key Characteristics:
• Initial Vertical Velocity (viy) = 0
• Initial Horizontal Velocity (vix) ≠ 0
• Time of flight

ANGLE-LAUNCHED PROJECTILE
Angle-launched projectiles are
projectiles launched at an angle with
respect to the horizontal and rises to
a peak while moving horizontally.
Upon reaching the peak, the
projectile falls with a motion that is
symmetrical to its path upwards to

ANGLE-LAUNCHED PROJECTILE
Key Characteristics:
• Initial velocity is split into components:
⚬ vx=vicos⁡θ (constant)
⚬ viy=visin⁡θ (changes due to gravity)
• Time of flight

• Maximum Height

at an angle of 50° above the horizontal.
Find:
A. The time of flight before the ball

B. The maximum height reached by
the ball.
ASSIGNMENT
1. A soccer ball rolls off a 1.5-meter-high table
with a horizontal velocity of 4 m/s.
A. How long does it take to reach the ground?
B. How far from the base of the table does the
ball land?

A. Find the total time the cannonball stays in
the air.
