This chapter discusses galaxies and their components. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, contains over 100 billion stars and has a diameter of about 100,000 light years. It has a spiral shape when viewed from the side and a disk shape. The sun is located about 25,000-28,000 light years from the galaxy's center. Dark matter affects galaxies through its gravitational pull. Emission and dark nebulae, open and globular star clusters, and different types of stars like Population I and II are components within galaxies.
