Question one - Identify conventions
with page layout and genre?
How is my front cover conventional?
My
work
In my production I have tried to make my production work as
conventional as possible, I have done this by constantly looking at
different issues of Kerrang and other rock genre magazines.
I have used a similar font for the masthead which is also in white, I
chose this particular font due to its aggressive looks and rocky feel.
To be more conventional I used very similar colour schemes which I
found on Kerrang issues, I went with using red and yellow alongside
black and white, other colours would have been conventional
however it wouldn’t be too conventional to have a huge variety of
different colours. In terms of page layout, I have given the front
cover a cluttered layout, with the main image over lapping the
masthead. I have followed conventions by not having a background
on the image displayed on the front cover.
How is my contents page conventional?
My
work
Kerrang
This is my contents page I have conventionally used the same colour scheme on
this page to create a house style. The section which states contents , issue and
date are not only in the same place but also a similar font. The black and white
image at the top of the page is black and white as it gives it more of rocky feel.
The use of drums as props fit with the rock genre as they are often a huge part
of a rock song. I used light in this picture to add more depth and field of vision. I
have chosen all the listings based on what is in an already existing rock
magazine. I have also used the same font as the masthead for the writing saying
“TRM THIS WEEK” this is what Kerrang have done.
How is my double page spread
conventional? These two double page spreads are
following the same colours schemes; red,
black and white. They also both feature
a female artist, although male figures
are more popular in the rock genre
females are still out there. I have also
used a dropped capital this is because its
conventional in all magazines and gives a
good professional finish.
Question two – explain how the people in
your magazine have been represented?
Front cover
This is the original image that I have displayed on my front cover. I used this as I feel it
fits the rock genre. This picture is a mid shot as this is convention for the rock to have
this type of image on the front cover. I have made the artist look as though she isn’t
the happiest of people
Contents page
This picture shows the energy that rock artists put into their music, I have
used this image also because of the instrument being a big part of them,
this picture shows this passion. I chose to take this picture at a low angle
to show that the model is big and superior, this is conventional of most
pictures in rock magazines. I cropped part of the image so that the
posters on the door are no longer visible.
I used a male
model to be
represent a
drummer as
most
drummers are
males
I used a monochrome
filter as it is
conventional for the
rock genre
Double page spread
This is the photo that I used for the
double page spread, this like the
contents page image is taken at a
low angle. By doing the photo at
this angle I have created a
powerful looking music artists.
I used an old church
location as this
created a gloomy and
tensioned
atmosphere.
I used a sense of
distance to show
that the artist has
independence and
also another way to
show her power.
The location is
dark, not only
does outline the
artist but also
fits with the
conventions of
the rock genre.

popular rock bands including;
Foo Fighters and Greenday. I've
also included instruments

images of rock festival line ups
