The Old School, Wells-Next-the-Sea, Norfolk
Affordable Homes Programme 2011-15
We’ve invested £410,00 AHP funding into 10
new affordable homes for rent
Our investment transformed a disused 19th Century
Grade II listed Victorian
primary school
This was purchased and developed by
Homes for Wells CLT from Norfolk
County council
Community-led group
Homes for Wells
qualified as an HCA
investment partner &
registered provider to
access HCA funding to
develop the project
They have
raised
capital from
benefactors,
loans from
banks and the
local authority
& were
supported
with HCA
grant
funding
Homes for Wells
have delivered
the first HCA
funded
community- led
affordable
housing project in
the East of
England
They
project
managed
the work
and
delivered
on time!
Since its 2006 launch,
Homes for Wells has
worked to create
enough affordable
properties for the
essential workers,
volunteers & local
people
Locals in this
popular
coastal town
struggle to
afford to rent
or buy homes
due to holiday
lets & holiday
homes
“Living here has
definitely changed
my life. We have our
own independence
now, our own space”
Anna Piggott, resident,
chef/dinner lady and
soon-to-be parent
“It’s a lovely
quiet place,
the neighbours
are really nice
and all local
people, and
everyone
knows each
other so there’s
a sense of
community”
“It’s a really
excellent
development”
Tom Fitzpatrick, leader
of North Norfolk
District Council
“I have admiration for
the volunteers
who run Homes for
Wells, an amazing
community
venture that’s
meeting a critical
local need”
Norman Lamb MP
(North Norfolk)
