This document discusses various aspects of data marts, including external data, reference data, performance issues, monitoring requirements, and security. External data is stored in the data warehouse to avoid redundancy. Reference data cannot be modified and is copied from the data warehouse. Performance considerations for data marts are different from OLAP environments, with response times ranging from 1 minute to 24 hours. Monitoring helps track data access, users, usage times, and content growth. Security measures like firewalls, login/logout, and encryption are needed to protect sensitive information in data marts.
4. External Data:
When we need an external data from data mart shall
be placed in the data warehouse.
This will avoid redundancy and duplication.
When we need a specific data so we add details with
it.
These details include the source of external data.
5. Reference Data:
Reference data can't modification.
End-user can operate this data and copied it
from Data Warehouse.
Reference Data stored + In manage DSS
environment.
Also need to manage their contents.
6. Performance Issues:
Consideration performance, in DSS environment is
different from OLAP environment.
Response timing issue totally different.
No need of Real Time or online response
Requirement of response is relax able from 1mint to 24
hours (specially in Data warehouse context)
Query can keep much time.
Performance is also different in MDDB environment.
Normally based on conventional file system.
7. Monitoring Requirement
What data is being accessed?
Which users are active?
In what quantity data is being accessed?
What are the usage timings?
What are the actual content of the data
mart?
What is the best way of accessing?
Is there any bad data in data mart?
How much of the data mart is growing?
8. Security in Data Mart
Secretive information need to Secure well. (financial,
Medical Records, Human resource information)
Administrator Should make data mart security
arrangement like; firewall, log onoff, Application
security, DBMS security in form of encryption or
decryption.
