The fact that both
answers 1 and 2 were
tied interested me
instantly. After looking
deeper into the results,
we found that those
who favoured
suspense, favoured a
paranormal presence
whereas those who
favoured gore were
strangely interested in a
human killer. This was
strange as a monster
character is often
associated with gore, as
opposed to a human
killer. Also, those who
voted for a high body
count also voted for a
human killer. It was why
we decided to combine
a body count with
suspense and a human
killer and decided not to
incorporate gore.
These conflicting results
taught us how to handle
certain elements within a
trailer. Although many
viewers 'expect' to see a
body count in a horror
movie, many also
believed that a film can
be a horror without one.
What we learnt from this
however is that those
who voted for a
'paranormal' presence
did not expect a high
body count however
some of those who
voted for a human killer
did expect a high body
count which showed us
that despite a body
count not needed, this
view was shared by
those who watched
paranormal horror
movies.
Character development was
extremely important for our
horror trailer as it was to
feature a teacher, we needed
his motives explained and the
questionnaire allowed us to
see how we should handle it
(In terms of if the audience
liked it or not). The fact that
those who answered the
questionnaire liked the choice
of seeing the 'Protagonist's'
past and reason for his
choices was important. This
was important as we
somewhat viewed the
antagonist as a protagonist in
our trailer and went along with
it.
