The Ramayana is an ancient Indian epic poem attributed to the poet Valmiki. It follows the journey of Rama, who is exiled to the forest for 14 years after his stepmother schemes to make her son the heir to the throne instead. During this time, Rama's wife Sita is kidnapped by Ravana but is eventually rescued by Rama and his allies. However, rumors spread that Sita was unfaithful while captive. When they return home, Rama doubts Sita and asks her to undergo an ordeal to prove her purity. The earth opens and takes Sita away, reuniting her with the gods.
