The student created experiments to design a Star Wars game in Photoshop, but struggled to make it look good. They then tried making a matching car game, drawing the cars and a background grid. Feedback noted uneven grid lines and sized shapes that needed improvement. Sounds and animation were later added in Premiere Pro. Reflections highlighted including more colors, improving layouts, sizing elements evenly, and distinguishing different sound effects for the final product.
2. Process
• I started making a star
wars game. I changed
the background colour
from black to white. I
used the shape tool to
create the red planet
and grey death star. I
used the pencil tool to
draw a darker circle to
make it look like a death
star. I created another
layer and started
drawing a millennium
falcon.
3. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product?
• I will make the millennium falcon look better for the real game because
the one I’ve drawn is a poor design – it doesn’t look like a millennium
falcon.
• I will make the death star bigger so the audience knows what it is. It’s hard
to see what it is because of how small it is.
4. Process
• I made a new layer
and called it ‘stars’. I
used the pencil tool
and placed silver
dots around the
background to make
it look like space.
• I drew the
millennium falcon
again because the
old didn’t look good.
5. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product?
• I will add more colour to the real game. At the moment it looks boring
because there’s only two colours, and the red planet in the corner makes
it look odd.
6. Process
I found an image of a space background
and put it into Photoshop. I created a
new layer and started putting path
ways in.
I found an image of the millennium
falcon and drew over it. This made it
look better.
7. reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product?
• Again, I need to add more colours to make it look interesting. Also, I will
make sure the map looks better by adding more features (e.g buildings to
the end of each path/enemy characters)
8. Process
I decided to scrap the star wars/Mario idea
because it got too complicated – I couldn’t
think of a map that would look good enough.
I restarted and decided to make a matching
car game. I made a new layer and drew the
red car first. I duplicated the red car layer to
make two of them and moved it to another
place.
I made new layers for each coloured car and
drew them using the red car template. I
duplicated them to make two of each colour
and moved them around the page.
Finally, I turned all the car layers off and
started drawing a background. I will move all
the cars when the background is finished so
they’re all on the ground.
9. reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product?
• I changed the idea because I was struggling to make the other game look
good.
• I will make sure colours and layout are thought about more thoroughly.
10. process
• I erased the background because
it wasn’t going to work with the
cars layout. I changed the
background colour using the paint
bucket tool.
• I created a new layer and used the
line tool to make the grid. I
duplicated the original grid layer
to make the other 6 lines.
• I created another layer and used
the pencil tool to make a timer
outline. I created 9 new layers for
the timer so it shows how much
time left there is.
11. reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product?
• If I make a matching game, I will make sure the grid is evened out. It’s easy
to see one column is wider than the rest. I will do this by counting the
distance between each grid line.
• I will make sure the shapes are an even size. The yellow cars are smaller
than the other cars. I will do this by creating a new layer and drawing over
the original shape.
12. process
• I created the frame animation. On each
frame I turned certain layers on and off
which made it animate.
• Every 10 frames I turned a timer layer
off so it makes it run down.
• I created another layer and drew a
‘YOU WIN’ sign. On each frame after
the game finished, I turned the layer on
and off so it flashed on the screen.
13. reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product?
• I will make sure any writing is neater and an even size throughout. This will
make the game look tidier and it will be easy for the audience to read.
14. process
• I exported my game from Photoshop to
premiere pro to add music and sound effects.
• I added the music and cut it down so it played
in time the game was on screen.
• I had a sound effect for no match and a
different one for when there was a match.
• Each time there wasn’t a match I put the no
match sound on, and each time there was a
match I put the match sound on.
• I made a sound for when the game was beaten
and put that in when the ‘YOU WIN’ sound
came up.
• Finally, I added a transition at the end of the
game so it faded 5 seconds after the game
finished.
15. reflection
What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product?
• I will make sure music and sound effects sound different. In this game they
sound too similar, making it hard to tell which is which when a sound
effect plays.
