Documentation service s for the Nordic Countries
Documentation service s for the Nordic Countries Shared information portal [www.nordgen.org]. Assistance and coordination for regional Nordic and Baltic IT cooperation. SESTO is already a regional PGR documentation system. Shared resources like databases of contacts, projects, networks, pictures, documents, taxonomy, etc. Database assistance during national inventory of cultivated plants, garden plants etc. [ex. POM]. Publish national datasets in ECP/GR, EURISCO, GBIF, WIEWS etc. National staff from the individual germplasm collections will still need to manage and update their own datasets.
Shared information portal [www.nordgen.org]. The new online information portal is available to the Nordic programs for genetic resources. A generic model for remote administration of a web site is developed and offered as a tool to Nordic projects. [http://www.nordgen.org]
The SESTO platform NGB can offer remote access to the SESTO germplasm documentation system for administration of national datasets of national genebank collections. Staff representing different germplasm collections in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania is already using SESTO logging in remotely from their home institute.
Some genebank collections presented in SESTO SESTO [ http://www.ngb.se/sesto/] is a regional genebank documentation system
SESTO was developed as the NGB documentation system. The application is later expanded to serve genebanks of the whole region (2003-2005). The main purpose of SESTO is management of the plant material in the genebank seed store . Extensions to better manage data on ex situ fruit collections are under development.
The genebank staff have personal passwords and can edit the online data from the same interface as presented to public visitors. The edit rights are individual corresponding to the relevant responsibilities at each genebank institute.
The genebanks included in SESTO share data like for example the taxonomic species database and the common picture archive.

© Many of the images included to the picture archive are free to use for any non-commercial, journalistic or private use. The contributors of the individual pictures choose themselves if the image is: For genebank use only (1), Free to use for non-commercial purposes (2) or Public domain (3).
NGB can offer to publish and automatically update national datasets to the relevant germplasm data catalogues. EURISCO is a European catalogue of the plant genetic resources conserved ex situ in Europe. Various Central Crop Databases from the ECP/GR complete the EURISCO with more crop specific data. The WIEWS from FAO is an important tool for world food security.
NGB can offer to publish national datasets as web services in a format compatible with the GBIF and the future EURISCO data portal. GBIF is a global data portal to biodiversity information resources and an important channel to promote the utilization of the Nordic datasets.
NGB can offer web forms and database assistance during national inventory projects for cultivated plants. Example: POM in Sweden Example: Plantearven in Norway
