Developing Will-power
for True Success
A humble presentation
by Prof. V. Viswanadham
~ with grateful thanks to many sources
for Vivekananda Institute of Human Excellence,
Ramakrishna Math, Hyderabad.
However you define success
—a happy family, good friends,
a satisfying career, robust health, financial security,
the freedom to pursue your passions—
it tends to be accompanied by a couple of qualities.
When psychologists isolate
the personal qualities that predict
“positive outcomes” in life, they consistently find two traits:
intelligence and self-control.
So far researchers still haven’t learned how to
permanently increase intelligence. But they have
discovered,
or at least rediscovered, how to improve self-control.
Will-power is control
exercised by one’s will.
Will – mental ability
by which a person decides upon
and controls
his or her actions.
Can any thing be done
without Willing ?
Can any thing be achieved
without Control ?
Can anything be accomplished
without deciding upon ?
Can anything be hoped
without acting upon ?
If power is important
Will-power is more important.
If discipline is important,
Self- discipline is much more important.
If ability is important,
Mental ability is much more important.
If control is important,
Self-control is much more important.
