1. DEFINE the following terms:
a. Rural settlement: is one type of human settlement characterised by low number of inhabitants, low
buildings, economic activities related to the primary sector, such as agriculture and livestock farming,
and intense relationships between its inhabitants.
b. Urban plan: is the graphical representation of the structure of the city. We can distinguish different
types of urban plans, such as grid, linear, radial and irregular urban plan.
c. Grid urban plan:isthegraphical representationofthe structureof a city characterised by a central core
fromwhich severalroadsbranchout. Theseroadsareintersectedby othersstreetsthat formconcentric
rings.
d. Touristfunction: is one of the functions or activities that take place in some cities because of its rich
historical or artistic heritage (Athens), its natural attractions (Cancun) or to leisure (Las Vegas).
e. City: is an urban settlement that has a large number of inhabitants (in Spain, more than 10000), with
tall buildings that are usually closed together, in which the most important economic activities are
related to the secondary and tertiary sector and, finally, with less intense relationships than in rural
settlements.
