This document provides casting information for three actors - Joey, Charlie, and Tom - in an original thriller short (OTS). Joey plays the shy character who is killed first, in line with slasher conventions. He was available for filming on weekdays and weekends. Tom plays the overconfident character who gets the group lost. He has acting experience and is available for filming on weekends. Charlie's role and availability are not described. The document discusses how the actors were cast partly because they fit the teenage boy profiles and having friends in the roles adds authenticity to the student-made OTS.
3. Joey
His role
Joey is the more shy teenage
who is more aware of the
dangers surrounding them.
He appears paranoid when he
hears something in the bushes
nearby, so the boys decide to
walk in the other direction.
When Joey goes into the bushes
on his own to urinate, he is
stalked and killed by the slasher.
This is in keeping with typical
slasher conventions as the shy
character is killed first.
Availability
Joey was
available to film
after school hours
on a weekday
and on Saturday
and Sunday
afternoons. He
lives within a 5
minute walk of
the location,
meaning
transport is of no
concern.
Why he was cast
Joey was cast in the role of the first
victim because he fits the profile as a
teenage boy. He also has experience
of acting in an AS media project last
year when he acted as a zombie for a
friend’s OTS. We also feel that it lends
more authenticity to the OTS to have
actors who are members of our group.
4. Tom
His role
Tom plays the role of the over-confident
teenage boy (reinforced stereotype)
who ignorantly claims to know where
they are, which inevitably leads to the
boys getting lost.
Joey becomes isolated and Tom
comes to a sudden realisation that his
friend is in danger.
When Tom discovers his murdered
friend he realises that he is alone and
vulnerable. He runs away from the
attacker and takes refuge behind a
tree. However, he doesn’t notice the
meat cleaver sticking out the tree
dripping with blood, signifying that his
death is imminent.
Why he was cast
Tom also fits the profile as a teenage boy. He has some
experience acting on stage in numerous school plays,
although this is his debut acting on screen. We also feel
that the OTS is more authentic and personal as a result
of having actors who are part of our group.
Availability
Tom is availiable after school hours on
a weekdays and Sunday afternoons.
He lives within a 15 minute drive of the
location, meaning transport is unlikely
to be a problem
