Where are you on the developmental continuum for 21st Century teaching and learning- on a “know nothing” to “know everything” scale? (Please place your vote on chart) 1. Newbie A newcomer to cyberspace, Web 2.0 and/or social networking. 2. Explorer Willing to try a few new things, ask questions, and starting to gain an awareness around using blogs, wikis, podcasts, and vidcasts in instruction. You have possibly joined a listserv and are sharing ideas with other teachers. 3. Path Finder You or your students have created a blogs, wiki, or podcast. Some of your teaching is delivered in a student centered, inquiry-based format. You are reading articles/books about how to use Web 2.0 tools with your students. You understand the term digital native. 4. Power User You blog and teach others how to blog. You use flickr, RSS, del.icio.us, and a wiki regularly. You can give at least three traits of a netgener and confusion and chaos do not bother you anymore. You regularly use project/problem based teaching in your classroom.

Products George Hall Elementary Wetpaint Site The antebellum mansion was decorated for Christmas with golden magnolia leaves and sugared fruits. It was breathtaking and we learned so much about colonial life from our tour guides. Even after the end of slavery, the adoption of segregation laws kept life in the United States divided. The museum was inspiring. The students had a chance to touch and feed many of the animals. Everyone enjoyed learning how the farmers take care of everyone and everything on the farm.

A Changing World " Jobs in the new economy--the ones that won't get outsourced or automated--"put an enormous premium on creative and innovative skills, seeing patterns where other people see only chaos." -- Marc Tucker, (an author of the skills-commission report and president of the National Center on Education and the Economy*
Currently, the number of text messages sent and received every day exceeds the population of the planet. Remote Control for Your Life Think of the number of cell phones that are Internet capable! Imagine with me how we can leverage that accessibility in the classroom! But NOT just for email or surfing the Web– mobile learning, when it truly arrives will be a way to do things we couldn’t do before.
It is estimated that 1.5 exabytes (1.5 x 1018) of unique new information will be generated worldwide this year. That’s estimated to be more than in the previous 5,000 years. Knowledge Creation
For students starting a four-year technical or higher education degree, this means that . . . half of what they learn in their first year of study will be outdated by their third year of study.

What Is An Online Learning Community? Much of the learning currently happening on the Internet comes from self-motivated individuals with a common interest and a desire to interact with others who share the same interest (Wenger, 1998). The focus is on interaction…
Attributes of Successful Learning Communities a shared vision of what constitutes the mission of the community a core group who is willing to chime in on a variety of topics, keep the conversation rolling, and self-monitor the conversations is critical. This can be a formal group "appointed" to the role or just a group who steps forward to assume that role. - a moderator who maintains the consistent integrity of the group - opportunities to collaborate and learn such as book reviews, book chats, PD opportunities, lesson sharing, etc... - provocative issues, yes... topics which draw in a variety of participants from different angles to give new perspectives
First, with several hundred of us from all corners of the field, we have a collective pulse on everything that's going on in education and teacher leadership.  Second, and just as important, our interactions are daily, even hourly. We are not prisoners of time and location.  We can instantly connect with one another to get insight, practical advice, and language to use while working with teachers. I've lost count of the number times I've used something I learned from the community when working with teachers, administrators, or schools. ABPC Participant
The invaluable technological knowledge gained from this experience is the most important aspect of the program. With this knowledge, I am now able to engage students and expand their technological literacy as well.
