An Essay On Environment
Writing an essay on the topic of the environment can be both challenging and rewarding. The
difficulty lies not only in the extensive scope of the subject but also in the responsibility it
carries. Addressing environmental issues requires a deep understanding of various scientific,
social, and economic aspects. One must delve into complex topics such as climate change,
pollution, biodiversity loss, and resource depletion.
Furthermore, crafting a compelling essay on the environment necessitates the ability to synthesize
information from diverse sources. It requires not only presenting facts and statistics but also
analyzing and interpreting them to convey a coherent message. Striking a balance between
raising awareness about environmental challenges and proposing viable solutions adds an extra
layer of complexity to the task.
Additionally, the essay must be well-structured to engage the reader effectively. Developing a
strong introduction that captures attention, presenting a well-reasoned argument in the body, and
concluding with a thought-provoking summary require careful planning and organization. The
language used should be precise, yet accessible, ensuring that the message reaches a broad
audience.
Moreover, staying updated with the latest developments in environmental science and policy is
crucial for an essay on this topic. The dynamic nature of environmental issues demands
continuous research and awareness of emerging solutions and challenges.
In conclusion, while writing an essay on the environment can be a daunting task due to its
multidisciplinary nature, the importance of addressing environmental concerns makes the effort
worthwhile. It challenges writers to navigate complex subjects, integrate diverse information,
and communicate a compelling message. Ultimately, a well-crafted essay can contribute to
raising awareness and inspiring action towards a sustainable and healthier planet.

ethical concerns related to academic integrity and plagiarism. Encouraging students to write their
own essays is a more ethical approach.]

dinosaurs from the Mesozoic era, and are consequently referred to as Teleosts, the
title of the infraclass for seahorses and a myriad of other species (SFSU Geography
and Dames N 2000). Refer to Figure 4 for a visual representation of Hippocampus
ancestry and adaptations. Teleosts, which were believed to have evolved roughly
two hundred million years ago, are commonly called bony fish in reference to their
evolved tail bones and new dorsal fins, additions that granted Teleosts heightened
mobility, agility, and predatory skills (SFSU Geography and Dames N 2000). The
slowly evolved absence of caudal fins made specialization and adaptation a
necessity for Syngnathids (SFSU Geography and Dames N 2000). The first of the
Syngnathids, the Pipefish, was believed to arise about fifty million years ago from
the Eocene Epoch and gave way to the slender, reed like bodies... Show more content

Among this adaptation came the genome allowing for males to develop brood
pouches and the ability to nurture embryos within these pouches, although
seadragons and pipefishes carry their fertilized eggs in skin folds rather than a brood
pouch (SFSU Geography and Dames N 2000). Early taxonomy described over one
hundred different species of the Hippocampus genus and mistakenly designated
names for members of the same species, meaning that the actual count of distinct
species is far lower (SFSU Geography and Dames N 2000). The color adapting
nature of the seahorse made taxonomy quite difficult initially, but forced
researchers to analyze the various species based upon other characteristics, such as
body size or the number of rings on their prehensile tails (SFSU Geography and
Dames N 2000). Recent research has narrowed the number of one hundred species
down to a much more accurate and reasonable thirty two, with little debate as to the
legitimacy of this figure (SFSU Geography and Dames N
Notre Dame de Paris
Abstract
Notre Dame of Paris is one of the most prominent cathedrals in the land of Paris
and portrays many diversified Gothic characteristics. This research essay will
explore the cathedral in detail while emphasizing on the influence of Gothic
architecture on the cathedral. Notre Dame of Paris bears all the structural features
of a Gothic cathedral including the famous rose window. By far, the Gothic style has
influenced the entire design of Notre Dame of Pairs. If there were other influences, it
would be too minor to be taken noticed of. The construction began in year 1163.
Being a significant building to the locals, she bore important responsibilities. Eugene
Viollet le Duc played an important role in the cathedral s restoration. ... Show more

This majestic cathedral decorated the land of Paris, dominating both the history of
architecture as well as religion history. The cathedral still stands proudly after
enduring an eventful history over many centuries. Truly a fascinating historic
building to behold, Our Lady of Paris , another term for Notre Dame of Paris,
portrays many diversified characteristics which will help identify a structure as
Gothic. One may lay eyes upon this building and refer it to one of Gothic s grand
structure. For many, their first concept of Gothic architecture derives from some
reference to this majestic construction. In this research, I shall consider the following
questions as an approach to appreciate and comprehend Notre Dame de Paris s
architectural aesthetic and value better:
1.What are the obvious influences of the Gothic style to the cathedral?
2.Has the Gothic style influenced the building completely or only part of it? If it was
only partially influenced, what may be the other influence that affected the design of
the structure?
3.How and when the cathedral was build?
4.What is the importance of this cathedral and how did the local people accepted the
cathedral? As a brief introduction to Gothic, the label Gothic was coined in Italy. It
was during Renaissance, as a derogatory reference to the art and architecture of these
earlier centuries (Introduction:

Guidelines for the ECON 411W Term Paper
Each student is expected to write a term paper on a topic relevant to the course,
but of your choosing. Each of you should chose a topic and submit the idea by
October 5th for my approval. In your proposal, you should describe to me what you
plan to write about and why. You must (and this is important) provide a brief
selection of material/scholarly articles that you plan to rely on for your paper. After
your topic has been approved, you are free to begin development of the paper in
greater detail.
The purpose of this writing assignment is to help you express your thoughts/findings
on a subject related to Money and Banking, as well as to gain some greater
confidence in the process of scholarly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But I would also like to see that you have looked into professional journals, and
have attempted to read, digest, and appropriately use this material in your work.
However, do not take the work of others wholesale and, when used, make sure you
cite appropriately as the thoughts of others. 4) Your conclusion/summary is well
reasoned and satisfies the objectives you laid out in the introduction. If it does not,
you must be careful to explain why it does not, and what still needs to be learned on
this subject to adequately fulfill the promise of the introduction. Failure is perfectly
acceptable, as long as it was an honest effort and one that has led to a deeper
understanding of the subject.
With an eye to the four points above, the paper will be graded roughly as follows: *
40% for content and conceptual clarity * 40% for the integration of classroom
content * 20% for grammar and style.
It will take me one week to read your papers and to respond with comments. You will
get these on November 23rd. You are to consider my comments carefully and address
them. Where you don t agree with my comments, or think I haven t thought
carefully enough about the idea, convince me. Where you agree with my comments,
adapt your paper to include them. Remember, you are being evaluated as much on
the PROCESS of writing, as you are the final product. So some amount of your final
grade on this paper will be determined by your response to my comments (about
Reflection Class Reflection
On November 8, 2017, I implemented my whole group lesson at Maverick
Elementary School in Mr. Alderson s Kindergarten class. It was near the end of
the day, during the time Mr. Alderson s students usually did math, which was
around 1 to 2 o clock. The students just came back from P.E. and were a bit tired
looking. However, Mr. Alderson had been telling the class that I was going to do a
fun math lesson after P.E., so the students were very excited when they came back.
When the students came back inside of the classroom, I had them sit on the carpet.
Before I introduced the lesson, I had them count from 1 to 10 as a class. While they
were countingfrom 1 to 10, I wrote the numbers on the board. Once they counted to
10, I asked the class if they knew what numbercame after 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14.
Practically the whole class knew the numbers 11 through 15, when I asked them. A
lot of the students counted even further. However, I stopped the class at the
number 15. I then told them what the lesson was going to be about. I told them
that we were going to do a fun activity over the numbers 11 to 15. I told them that
we were going to find different ways to represent the numbers 11 to 15. The
standard or TEK that I used was TEK K.2B, which was about writing and
representing whole numbers from 0 to at least 20 with and without objects or
pictures. I chose to only go up to the number 15 for this lesson because Mr. Alderson
s class was going over the numbers 11 through 15 this week.
Aristotle s Notions Of Virtues Essay
Aristotle s notions of virtues are the heart of the subject matter in Aretaic Ethics. The
concept of Aretaic ethics comes from the Greek word arete which translates as human
excellence or excellence of character, virtue (Virtue Ethics, 2013). Virtue ethics
emphasizes being a certain person with certain quality of character. Its basic concept
is that the virtueor value of the actions is not in the act itself, rather it is in the heart
of the actor. Though it may seem not overly compatible with today s notions, I
believe Aristotle s notions of virtues are an important precursor towards self
fulfillment and harmonized society.
The heart of virtue ethics is the search for eudaimonia translated in Greek for
happiness or to the concept of human flourishing (Nagel, 1972). Aristotle believes
that everything has a natural telos , an aim or a goal towards which things are
headed. For humans, the natural telos is ultimate happiness which could be
achieved through flourishing in all aspects of our lives. Virtue or excellence is a
necessary condition for happiness. So what is virtue? According to Aristotle, virtue
is a concept which exists as the mean between excess and deficiency (Sandel, 2010).
It can be viewed as the middle point between having too much and having too little.
So implementing specific virtues alongside practical wisdom over our lives would
allow us to flourish leading towards happiness.
I believe that applying Aristotle s notions of virtue alongside practical

Food Insecurity Is A Serious Global Problem
Food Insecurity
There are lots of people living in the safe environment, being high educated and
enjoying rich foods. However, more than 5.5 million children are dying of
malnutrition related causes each year (Sanchez and Swaminathan, 2005).
According to FAO (2013,pp8 15) most recent estimates indicate that. globally,842
million people 12 percent of the global population were unable to meet their
dietary energy requirements in 2011 2013, down from 868 million reported for the
2010 2012 period in last year s report. Thus, around one in eight people in the world
are likely have suffered from chronic hunger, not having enough food for an active
and healthy life. The vast majority of hungry people 827 million of them live in
developing regions, where the prevalence of undernourishment is estimated now at
14.3 percent in 2011 2013. Currently, the food insecurity still is a serious global
problem. Especially for developing countries, there are some countries has been
undernourishment by it. The number of people has been the problem which lacks
food to eat. Therefore, the developing country government is trying to find a beast
way to solve this intractable problem. Finally, this essay will discuss how water is
most important for agricultural and improve the irrigation facilities and effective use

Overpopulation continues to be the leading driver of hunger, desertification, species
depletion, and a range of social problems across the planet. China is the world s most
populous nation with around 1.357 billion people and India, with 1.252 billion, is
catching up fast. Combined, the two nations share more than one third of the world s
population. Both of the countries are grappling with huge populations and the
problems that arise with them, but they have chosen to employ drastically different
ways of coping. The population of China has become managed as a result of the

India was the first country to enact a population policy, which was initiated in
1952, and is now commonly known as the First Five Year Plan (July 31, 2012).
This policy was enacted as a response to decreasing mortality rates and a consequent
population boom. The 1950 s method was commonly known as the clinical approach
(July 31, 2012). Family planning facilities were constructed in hopes that the
population would use them, nevertheless this plan eventually failed, as parents had
no incentives to attend these facilities (July 31, 2012). By the 1960 s, the
government of India knew that it had to modify its policies and introduced its third

fogginess, they kept adding to the background, which it didn t feel natural and

that really made in impact ,like for example one of my favorite scenes that s added

years, which is a sad scene, but an inspirational speech, which really touched Captain
Benjamin L. Willard heard because these people were not going to give up in their
land or leave there land that they have been having for over 70 years. Also at the
same time the French people did help bury Tyrone Miller as well, so there are
important things they did add in Apocalypse Now Redux. Which even little things

crew is in a war you want to understand the connection with the Captain and Crew.
Apocalypse Now Redux we got that extra touch which made us have a stronger bond
with other characters in the movie not just the Captain but like for example Tyrone

Rhetorical devices are an important part to many famous speeches and are a major
contribution to the quality of the speech. Lou Gehrig s Farewell Address uses
many rhetorical devices including ethos, repetition and pathos. Another speech that
uses repetition is Ronald Reagan s Challenger Tragedy Address . The tragedy
address also uses the rhetorical devices allusion and anaphora. Rhetorical devices
are a crucial part of The Gettysburg Address written by Abraham Lincoln. Ethos,
pathos, and repetition are the three most important devices used in The Gettysburg
Address . Rhetorical devices can give a deeper meaning to a speech which is exactly

Allusion is when the speaker makes a comparison to a great event in the past.
Reagan uses two allusions in Ronald Reagan s Challenger Tragedy Address , one
allusion he uses is, Nineteen years ago, almost to the day we lost three astronauts
in a terrible accident on the ground. This refers to when three astronauts, Gus
Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee, died in a ground test of the Apollo One in
1967. Another use of allusion in this speech is, On this day three hundred and
ninety years ago, the great explorer Sir Francis Drake died aboard ship off the coast
of Panama. In his lifetime the great frontiers were the oceans, and a historian later
said, He lived by the sea, died on it, and was buried on it. Well, today, we can say of
the Challenger crew: Their dedication was, like Drake s, complete. This quote is
important because it connects the members of the Challenger crew to Sir Francis
Drake. Sir Francis Drake was an explorer similar to the Challenger crew who were

Characterization is a huge factor when determining the likability of any work of
literature, due to the human psychology, and can be shaped by many things such as
first impressions, relationship complications, and resolutions. In Thomas Hardy s
famous works Far From the Madding Crowd and The Mayor of Casterbridge, the
differing portrayals of relationships and style of characterization dictate the theme
and overall likeability of the two rather similar novels. Despite the similarities, the
positively thematic ideals depicted by Bathsheba Everdene and Gabriel Oak s

This in turn gives the reader something to look forward to. In Hardy s tragic novel
The Mayor of Casterbridge, an entirely different relationship is portrayed that
greatly differs from that of Gabriel Oak and Bathsheba Everdene s in Far From the
Madding Crowd. Unlike the latter, the beginning of The Mayor of Casterbridge
articulates the marriage of Michael and Susan Henchard as expendable when the
disconsolate Michael sells his wife and daughter to a sailor. The immediate
separation and later reunion of the couple conveys a theme that the need for
propriety can outweigh one s quest for justice; and so, this broken and complicated
relationship illustrates the commonality of faults in human nature. In the very first
chapter of the novel, Michael implores the people at an auction to buy Susan and
his daughter Elizabeth Jane, remarking the woman is no good to me. Who ll have
her? (Hardy). This establishes a desperate view of Michael that is hard to shake in
the real world considering that, research has in fact found that it can take up to 6
months of regular contact with someone to change their initial impression (McKay)
which is why introducing a main character in a directly negative situation even if the
rest of the book tries to make up for that one event will affect the way the

The Similarities Between Creon And Antigone
This play is ultimately concerned with one person defying another person and
paying the price. Antigone went against the law of the land, set by the newly
crowned King Creon. Antigone was passionate about doing right by her brother and
burying him according to her religious beliefs even though Creon deemed him a
traitor and ordered him to be left for the animals to devour. Creon was passionate
about being king and making his mark from his new throne. Although they differed in
their views, the passion Creon and Antigone shared for those opinions was the same,
they were equally passionate about their opposing views. Creon would have found it

The need to show power before reason is prevalent in both these characters.
Even when faced with reasonable arguments against their courses of action they
still went ahead and acted in the same way. Creon took advice from the elders and
President Bush took advice from the people looking for WMDs. Colin Powell, in
May 2001 informed his President and the nation that even though we have no
doubt in our mind that the Iraqi regime is pursuing programs to develop weapons
of mass destruction, I think the best intelligence estimates suggest that they have
not been terribly successful. The war on terror is now justified by the White
House administration as having been in response to Saddam Hussein s human
rights record and not down to a reasonable threat of attack and the use of WMDs.
The difference between Creon and Bush is that Creon stood alone in his bad
decision making, George W Bush took the UK, Australia and Poland along with
him. This desire to show power was never more obvious than when, in January 2003
a meeting took place at the White House at which George W Bush and Tony Blair
allegedly discussed how they could look for alternative ways to provoke a war after
full disclosure about any weapons Iraq held was not forthcoming.
The other similarity between these two characters is the need to go one up on their
predecessor. Creon is the new king and desperate to make himself feared and
respected, George W Bush,
The Rate At Walmart s Checkout Points Use Payment

Use of payment cards at stores.
For my ethnography project, I chose to study and compare the rate at which
shoppers at Walmart s checkout points use payment cards to cash. For the purpose
of this paper, I will refer to the people as shoppers, and medium of exchange to
represent payment cards and cash. The main focus of this ethnography is to compare
two media of exchange at checkout points. (Wicksell [1906] 1967, p. 17) defined a
means of payment, as an object used to pay for purchases and settle debts, and a
general means of payment, which is an object that can always be used to pay for
any purchase or settle any debt . How fast is it to check out when payment cards are
used compared to when cash is used at checkout points? Although the medium of
exchange is the main focus of the ethnography; type of checkout and gender roles
also play very important roles when using or choosing a medium of exchange.
Advantages of using payment cards
It s convenient to use in a wide variety of places in stores, on the phone or online.
You can better manage your budget using your monthly statement with the details of
all of your purchases.
It is safer than carrying a lot of cash.
You can use it as either debit or credit cards.
When used, you may not be debited immediately, payments can be made in
instalments depending on the bank.
You are not responsible for charges if your card is stolen as long as you report it

You can build your credit history.

The Four Types Of Discrimination
According to research that has been conducted by The Indiana Civil Right
Commission (2012) between October 2010 and October 2011, 58% of participants
experienced some sort of discrimination. Discrimination can be defined as treating
people differently, negatively or adversely without having a good reason. It is an act
making distinction in favor of or against a person based on their group, class or
category. There are four major types of discriminationwhich are gender
discrimination, racial and ethnic discrimination, age discrimination and disability
discrimination.
The first type of discrimination is gender discrimination. Gender discrimination
involves treating someone unfavourably because of the person s particular gender.

The second type of discrimination is racial and ethnic discrimination. Racial and
ethnic discrimination defined as treating someone unfavourably since that person is

hair texture, skin colour, or certain facial features. In addition, it is also defined as

nationality. It involves both colour difference and stereotypes.
Colour discrimination involves treating someone unfavourably because of skin

How Does Shakespeare Present Identity In Hamlet
In Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, he writes about the challenges royalty could
face and emphasizes the challenges of family relationships, suicidal thoughts and
doubt, and explores the idea of revenge and identity. The main themes present are
expectation versus reality and the complexity of actions. Shakespeare wrote this
play during the Renaissance, with the rise of humanism, emphasizing that the ideal
world is filled with many of difficulties, therefore it is impossible to know the
whole truth. The context of this play is set in Elsinore, Denmark in the 14th century,
where a prince discovers his father was murdered and seeks revenge on his uncle,
who marries the queen, and is a suspect of killing the former king. If Shakespeare had

challenges in facing the unknown truth of reality and questions whether his
decisions are ethical. Hamlet goes on and says, Whether tis nobler in the mind to
suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take arms against a sea of
troubles, and , by opposing, end them? (3.1, 58 61). Today, there are many people
who experience depression and anxiety that always wonder whether living is worth
the chance. Revenge is constantly present because negative thoughts and outcomes
can heavily damage a person mentally and physically. Especially for Hamlet, he is
convinced that the ghost of his father told him the truth, and is determined to kill
Claudius for his father. In modern society, cyber bullying is common due to the easy
access to the internet for people to attack each other and spread of negative messages.
Suicide and revenge contribute to the theme of complexity of action, that emotions
can control one s actions and lead to irrational decisions, which is part of the human
SOUL SURFER
A Critique on the Movie The Soul Surfer By: Joed Maghinay 2 a1 Submitted to:
Prof. Jovilyn Zaplan Galindez I. Summary The Soul Surfer In 2003, teenager
Bethany Hamilton (AnnaSophia Robb) lives in Kauai, Hawaii with her parents Tom
(Dennis Quaid) and Cheri (Helen Hunt), and two brothers, Noah (Ross Thomas) and
Timmy (Chris Brochu). All are surfers, but she and her best friend Alana Blanchard
(Lorraine Nicholson) have grown up with a passion for the sport and enter a
competition. Her church youth ministry leader, Sarah Hill (Carrie Underwood), is
disappointed when she has to withdraw from a planned missions trip because of the
contest. Bethany and Alana place first and third,... Show more content on

If it is in time, she will win, but the judges rule that the time has expired. Malina is
the winner, but she has finally gotten over her differences with her, inviting her up
on the platform to share first place. Subsequently, Bethany lets the reporters
interview her. One asks her what she would do if given the chance to undo the loss
of her arm. She says that she would still lose it because she can embrace more
people now than she ever could with both. The film ends with real video of
Bethany surfing after the attack. II. Reaction My problem with Soul Surfer is that
it makes it look too simple. Bethany (AnnaSophia Robb) has a loving family of
professional surfers and a big, friendly dog. She lives in walking distance of the
beach. She was and is a committed churchgoer and got great support from her
spiritual leaders. She was an indomitable optimist with a fierce competitive spirit.
But there had to be more to it than that. I applaud her faith and spirit. I give her full
credit for her determination. I realize she is a great athlete. But I feel something is
missing. There had to be dark nights of the soul. Times of grief and rage. The
temptation of nihilism. The lure of despair. Can a 13 year old girl lose an arm and
keep right on smiling? The flaw in the storytelling strategy of Soul Surfer is that it
doesn t make Bethany easy to identify with. She s almost eerie in her optimism. Her

A Blood Bag With Two Pipettefuls Of Glucose And Starch...
In part I, a dialysis bag with two pipettefuls of glucose and starch solution was
mixed. The bag was placed in a beaker of tap water and I2KI solution for 30
minutes. The contents of the bag and the beaker were placed in test tubes and tested
through Benedict s Test for the presence of aldoses both test tubes tested positive.
What was happening when the dialysis bag was in the beaker? The dialysis bag s
material acted as an artificial membrane , exercising selective permeability (allowing
certain membranes to pass in and out of the bag). Originally, the bag contained starch
and glucose, whereas the beaker contained water and I2KI solution (starch indicator).
The concentrationof glucose was higher in the bag than outside the bag, thus... Show

I2KI s concentration was higher outside the bag than in the bag, so I2KI diffused
down its concentration gradient, from an area of greater I2KI concentration to an
area of lower I2KI concentration. This is shown through the color of the dialysis
bag after being placed in the beaker for 30 minutes. Originally, the dialysis bag with
glucose and starch was a clear color, but when the I2KI solution diffused into the bag,
the solution turned black because I2KI turns a solution black when the presence of
starch is detected.
In part II of the lab, potato slices (of approximately the same mass) were placed in
cups of varying sucrose concentrations. All seven cups contained approximately 50
mL of sucrose (0.0M to 0.6M, in 0.1M increments). After the potato slices were
incubated for about 24 hours, they were removed, blotted dry, and weighed. A graph
was created by the effect of sucrose concentration on the percentage change of mass
of the potato slices.
The graph/data shows that as the concentration of sucrose increases, the percentage
of change of mass decreases an inverse relationship. For example, when the potato
slices were placed in the 0.0M sucrose solution (pure water), the change in
percentage mass was 29.94%; the mass increased by 0.53 grams. The solution was
pure water, thus a higher concentration of
Vehicle Collision Narrative
There were two officer dispatched to the vehicle collision. The other officer talked
with each party and with those that witnessed the accident. Officer Lewis took
pictures, sketched the scene, and took measurements. All of the information he
gathered will later go into a report he will write. My second ride a long was with
Officer Helms. He has been an officer with the Barstow PoliceDepartment for five
years. He has always wanted to be an officer. He like that he gets to encounter all
types of situation and individuals. He enjoys working with a smaller agency
because he gets a more hands on experience when there are bigger cases. While I
rode with him you could tell he is very passionate about what he does. I got to ride
with Officer Helms for about four hours. The first thing Officer Helms asked me if

We checked out areas of high crime and looking for individuals connected to

search he was apart of that morning and how the individual was connected to guns
and drugs. He allowed me to run license plates to find if anything hits in the
system. We stopped one individual who was jaywalking and gave him a warning
and told him to use the crosswalk. We got called to a traffic collision. The collision
was a fender bender. It was the first accident that the responding party had been in
so she called 911. In incidents where it is a minor collision the two parties would
just exchange information. Officer Helms made sure each party was ok and he
gave them an incident report number for future use. The final call that I
experienced was a burglary in progress. We arrived at an apartment complex. I
stayed in the car, while two other patrol cars arrived for backup. The call was a false
alarm. It was the maintenance guy replacing a broken screen door. The person who
lived in the apartment was helping the maintenance
The Theory Of Leadership Theories
An Explanation of each Theory in the Taxonomy above.
There are many theories concerning leadership, and how these theories classify
various individuals and their particular style of leadership. Leaders throughout the
ages have led in different ways, shown unique attributes, and accomplished their
tasks or missions in a way that many have found to be one of a kind (Northouse,
2016). Leadership theories such as transactional and transformational leadership
have been used to classify many of our leaders of the past (Leadership Theories In
Chronological Order. (n.d.). Other leadership theories exist and offer the same
explanation of the types of leaders who shape and have shaped our world. Here we
will explore four of them which are; The Great Man Theory, LMX, or Leader
Member Exchange Theory, as well as Trait and Contingency Theory. Great Man
Theory.
The Great Man Theory became very popular in the 19th century (Leadership
Theories In Chronological Order. (n.d.). The theory was made based on the
behaviors of mostly military figures. During this time period, leadership positions
were held mostly by men, who passed their leadership positions from father to son.
This is believed to be the main reason for the name given Great Man Theory (
Leadership Theories In Chronological Order, n.d.). One thing to note is that Herbert
Spencer, a famous sociologist, said that great leaders were only a product of the
atmosphere and society that they both worked and lived in. The
The Importance Of Setting An Event
When setting up an event for your clients, it is always best to have their
preferences in mind. But it would be better to take this idea one step further and sit
down, talk, and find out what your clients preferences are before setting up the
event. Many Event planners will accomplish this by inviting a small group of 5 15
people to come sit down and talk to you in a focus group. This will give you the
opportunity to not only show your clients what you have planned, but also get some
good initial feedback before even hosting the event.
For example, let s say that I am put in charge of hosting a Japanese Culture Festival
at the local park. After I have done my beginning research and have some ideas on
how I would like to build this event., ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, I would move on to the visual aspect of the festival. I would set up a
presentation to show them some pictures and drawn up concept art of what some
of the booths and areas of the festival could look like. I would study their faces try
to pick up on subtle visual hints on to what might be appealing to them on not. After
they all got a good chance to look at the photos I would ask them, What did you
think of the overall color scheme? and Do you think that this accurately represents the
Japanese culture? I would then listen to feedback to help me create my finial design
later.
After Sight, I would move on to Touch. I would have a bunch of traditional Japanese
decorations. I would pass them around ask them, What they would think of these
cloths, flags, and streamers being placed around the booths? , and Do they think
these decorations would feel appealing to people that would probably touch them as
they walk around the festival?
Then I would go on to Smell and Tasteto finish it off. I would look for reactions to
both of these sense because of how related they are based on my questions. I would
bring out traditional Japanese sweets and food and have them try them all. I would
ask them to smell then taste the food. While they were eating I would ask them, Do

Analysis Of The Little Red Cap
The Little Red Cap originally told by the famous Grimm Brothers, have numerous
versions of the tale. The innocent tale we have been read to as a bedtime story
before, with an evil wold and his mischievous plan of harming little red riding hood
and her grandmother have just taken an enormous stroll. Nowadays, the tale has been
modernised and there is a vast number of different versions of it alongside the
interpretations. The versions change between their structures and narratives however
the moral of the story stays the same.
The Grimm Brothers tale Little Red Cap starts with Once upon a time there was a
dear little girl. If you set eyes on her you could not but love her. (p13) From the start
of the tale the female character is described as dear and that her character is adored
by most for the kind of person she is. She was loved by most, however, her
grandmother loved her the most of all and wanted to give her all she could The
person who loved her most of all was her grandmother, and he could never give the
child enough (p.13) This gives off a feeling as the Little Red Riding Hood loves her
grandmother very much and she would go to great lengths to make her happy.
In the Louis and Francois Briffault s version The Story of Grandmother the Little
Red Riding Hood is not described, though it is narrated through dialogues which can
allow a readers imagination work on the girls character upon her actions. The only
hint in this version to realise the Little Red Riding

Modernization Of The Middle East
At the start of the 18th century, Middle Eastern countries witnessed their Eastern
neighbors being overtaken by Western Europe and were faced with a choice: to pick
apart or to be picked apart. It was from this dilemma that defensive developmentalism
emerged in the Middle East. Empires such as the Ottomans, Persia, Tunisia, and
Egypt began the process of centralizing their authority in order to assert effective
control over their populations. The chief goal of defensive developmentalism for
these empires was to assert their autonomy, whether that be autonomy from the
Ottomans in the case of Egypt and Tunisia, or from outside imperialists in the
Ottoman Empireand Persia. In order to accomplish these goals, defensive
developmentalists undertook extensive reforms to establish their empires as relevant
worldwide powers.
Defensive developmentalists adopted extensive reforms in order to accomplish their
goal of asserting their autonomy over outside forces. As the chief worry for these
empires was outside penetration, military restructuring became an essential aspect to
their reform. A centralized, organized military gave empires the ability to do the
picking apart, or at the very least prevent from being picked apart. These modern
armies were built on the basis of population, which introduced the policy of
conscription to the Middle East. Coupled with military restructuring was bureaucratic
reform, or a shift from mediated to unmediated states. By centralizing their authority,

* This important quote shows how the Igbo people use their art of rhetoric so plainly.
The quote shows how our lifestyle is one of fast paced conversations, yet the Igbo
prize conversation as an art form. That art form shows how the Igbo people use
rhetoric so plainly. We all know proverbs are meant to be well thoughtout and
intentional but not quickly digested and forgotten. In the quote the metaphor
suggests that words are organized by proverbs for digestion. Palm oil was a
common form of cooking oil, and many foods were prepared with it for use. For that
reason, proverbs are the source by which words or conversations are made. The same
value that they place on food, the nourishment of life, to words, the sustenance of

San Francisco Gold Rush
How the Gold Rush Established San Francisco
On January 24, 1848, gold was discovered in Coloma, California. The discovery
drove over hundreds of thousands people of all ethnic backgrounds to America s
west coast. Prior to the Gold Rush, California was dominated by Mexican rancheros
and Native Americans. President Polk had a vision for Americans to expand
westward. Polk believed that America could span coast to coast and saw the Gold
Rush as the perfect opportunity to achieve his goal of manifest destiny. Americans
were not the only people to flee to the gold fields, Mexicans, Chinese, Irish, Germans,
and many other ethnicities also migrated to California. The Gold Rush diversified the
population and stimulated the economic and cultural growth ... Show more content on

This was because of urban expansion of the San Francisco, the need for more
resources, and the cultural diversity. The urbanization in part with rapid
industrialization of San Francisco quickly developed the city economically. There
they manufactured stamp mills, steam engines, and nozzles for hydraulic operations.
Already by 1861 more than a thousand workers in San Francisco toiled in the
manufacture of mining equipment. The city boasted thirteen iron foundries and
thirteen machine shops...reducing the need for imports of the East. (A Golden
State: Mining and Economic Development in Gold Rush California). Urbanization
and industrialization created a stronger infrastructure for the city. In 1850, ferry
service was established and in 1873, cable cars were added as transportation
(Planning History of San Francisco). Many times miners were forced to create
technological innovations. Problems with water demanded that dams be
constructed and this brought earliest scientific impulse to gold country. (Gold
Rush and California Statehood). As San Francisco began to industrialize, it
became a self sufficient city. Industry followed suit as the population increased. As
more people flooded into California, it became increasingly more competitive for
miners to make a profit. After the first few years, much of the gold on the surface
of rivers and land had been found. People who did find gold, made barely enough to
sustain themselves, much less make a profit. Many turned to opening small
businesses. Merchants profited most from the Gold Rush because they were able to
monopolize prices with the high demand of supplies with few suppliers. They
opened restaurants, saloons, and general stores. The city s population skyrocketed
immediately after the discovery of gold. People brought their money from home
hoping to invest it in hopes of gaining a larger profit from the gold mining. People

State Board Of Education Case Study
The learning environment that ELL students have in the classroom has been
impacted by the history of laws and bills passed by the board of education. Many
school districts all over the United States are experiencing an increase in the
enrollment of students who cannot speak, read, or write English in order to fully
participate in their education. Numerous pieces in history took action in order to
prevent these learners from risking their loss of opportunities. The Civil Rights
Act of 1964 prevents discrimination based on a person s race, color, or nationality.
In Lau v. Nichols of 1974, the Supreme Court stated that school districts have to
take steps in order to help ELL students conquer language barriers and to enable
them to participate fully in the districts educational programs. The case of Plyler vs.
Doe 1982 stated that no school or school district may have the ability to forbid
immigrant children the access to public education. No Child Left Behind (2001):
Accountability, AYP, and standardized tests for ELLs. The 1990 legal document is a
force that outlines the identification, services, and compliance of school districts to
ensure equal and comprehensible instruction to ELLs. The document was signed on
August 14, 1990 into the District Court. This act was the result of a class action
complaint filed on behalf of eight minority rights advocacy groups in Florida. They
claimed that The State Board of Education had not complied with its obligations

The Lake House
Pulling up to the lake house, I looked over at my older sister, Clara, who was busy
staring through the window of the old truck. Every year, my Dad s whole side of
the family stays together for a week every summer. Ever since I can remember, we
ve stayed at this huge, old lake house in Columbia, South Carolina. Clara and I hate
being here. Strange things happen in this house... plates fall out 5432wqof
cabinets and voices echo in the house throughout the night. Nevertheless, my
grandparents still loved coming here and made us visit every year. Clara, my Dad,
and I are the last ones to arrive because our flight from Chicago was overlaid two
hours. I missed Chicago already, the constant buzz of people and the bright lights.
Walking up to the house, everything felt the same as it always did. The humidity is
choking, making it hard to breathe. The sun is blinding and the temperature is
somewhere in the 90 s, as to be expected late July in South Carolina. The lake
smells like dead fish. Always, no matter what. We walked up the old, wooden
stairs. The light blue paint was chipping off the door, and the door itself looked
like it was about to fall of the hinges. Clara let herself in, pulling her lime suitcase
behind her. My two little cousins, Reagan and Matthew, immediately saw her and
squealed with joy. Everyone loved Clara, her bubbly personality easy to get along
with. No one, on the other hand, was ever excited to see me. I was the quiet one,

Tyranny In Greece
In the ancient Greek city states and over many centuries, the government (political
power) took many forms: held by a single individual: (monarchies and tyrants), or by
a select few (oligarchies and aristocracies), or by every male citizen (democracy).
A monarchy is a type of governance of the people by a single individual, with the
power retained by blood lines. In the pre Classical period, ancient Greece was
composed of small geographic units ruled by a local king.
People in these small geographic units, paid taxes to the king, obeyed his laws, and
depended on him for their defense.
Greek monarchies were only distinguishable from a tyranny when the hereditary ruler
was more caring and ruled in the genuine interest of his people.
Due to fighting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Greek tyrants were not necessarily evil rulers, they simply looked after their
own interests (e.g. Pisistratus rule in Athens).
Sparta avoided tyranny, probably because of the need for unity amongst citizens
against helots.
As Tyranny governments have the tendency at being insecure, and try to maintain
their power by becoming increasingly oppressive; they decline in ancient Greece
because tyrants became greedy and harsh and were overthrown.
Democracy is the rule by the people (governance by the people).
Democracy was based on principle that all citizens of the city state of Athens had
right to attend and speak at assembly (women, slaves metics were not citizens).
The most important political posts were the 10 generals that were elected by the
assembly each year. Citizens were brought in by random lottery to serve on the
Assembly for one year. Assembly members decisions were made through public
debate and voting. The Council (smaller group) was responsible for day today

Four Inter-Family Influences Of The Indo Aryan Language
Hence if we look at all the Indo Aryan languages, one aspect if quite clear is that
they are all derivatives of Sanskrit (Sebeok, 1963) which in turn have their roots set
in Greek and Latin and made its way into Indian soil via the Indo Europeans
(Sebeok, 1963). Out of all these Indo Aryan languages, Hindiis considered to be the
most progressive, as it is the most analytical followed by Punjabi, Gujarati, Sindhi,
Marathi, Bengali, and Oriya (Sebeok, 1963).
2.2.4 Inter Family Influences
No languages can be given the title of pure language being devoid of any form of
influence or mix from languages belonging to their neighbouring boundaries or
languages it might have come in contact within the course of time. With the number
of language families existing in the same soil over the number of years, there is
bound to be influences of one on another. For example, the Indo Aryan languages
have quite a few Non Indo Aryan borrowings (Bagchi, Levi and Bloch, 1929). It must
be remembered that the Aryans had come into the Indian soil after the Dravidians and
Tibeto Burma family already residing in the North western regions of India. It is seen
that the ancient Indo Aryan language Sanskrit has strand of Pre Aryan languages
namely, the Dravidian and Munda language (Sebeok, 1963). While the Tibeto Burma
influence is said to have come in while the Aryans were coming in from the Northern
boundaries of India. Aryans were coming in from a temperate region into the tropical
environment of
The University Of California Archives Essay
University of California Archives
An important source helped to corroborate the vessel s first name as North
American. It was an advertisement for the ship (figure 4) which was found in the
University of California files relating to the Gold Rush and has the date 1858 written
in pencil . The North American is described as
The largest ship in New York for San Francisco Direct(...) The splendid A No 1, and
very superior coppered, and copper fastened Clipper Ship (...) This Ship is entirely
new and fitted for passengers in the most commodious manner(...) and the whole is
fitted up as a Saloon.
Summing up: At least on paper, a very efficient and comfortable means of
transportation.
The travel to California, as advertised by the poster, would start by departing from
New York on 22nd of March, sailing around Cape Horn and hopefully arriving at
California after 90 days. A careful analysis of this object reveals that the date 1858
not in the original printing is just a guess written by someone at an unidentified
time. The corrected date should be 1852 since this is the year Capt. Austin was
commanding it and the ship is described as entirely new . Also, on 8 March 1858,
The North American was involved in a collision which took place off Point Lynas
causing the sinking of the Spanish barque Tecla Carmen, apparently without the loss
of life. As a consequence, the ship was impounded (Haggard 1864:79 80).
A document would confirm 1852 as the correct date. In a letter from

This is shown in the portal of Anubis, Anubis the protector of the dead, was the god
associated with mummification and the afterlife. Through the association with
mummification and the afterlife he was generally portrayed as a half human half
jackal form. Animals were usually also highly symbolic figures in Egyptian art,
however the Egyptians did not worship animals, the animals were used as powerful
symbols for the gods in which they worshiped, the use of the jackal portrayed the
ideals of death. As the jackal itself was strongly associated with the cemeteries of
ancient Egypt, it was a creature whose scavenging habits threatened the preservation
of the body, in an effort to counter this threat and employ it for protection the jackal

Essay On Aaron Copland
Aaron Copland is arguably one of the most important 20th century American
composers. His uses of texture and tonal settings have contributed greatly to the way
people think about film scoring and orchestral composition. During his life, he was at
the forefront of his style, and his legacy is quite immense, including the founding of
not only the AMC but also, with his passing, the Aaron CoplandFund for Music. He
was at times a critic, mentor, and above all, a chief organizer of what was and still
is America s music . Copland was born November 14, 1900, in New York. The son
of Jewish immigrants, his cultural background, as well as his early childhood,
contributed greatly to his musical and business dealings.
.
Aaron spent his childhood living above his parents Brooklyn department store. It
seems likely that it was in helping to run the shop at this early stage in his life that
he picked up the business skills that would help him through his career as a musician.

Essay #2
Essay#2 Sociological exploration or research is a complex process. At what time a
scientist attempts to figure out the way the natural world works, he will utilize
experiments to search for the cause and effect. In other words, they construct an
experiment so they can observe or evaluate any change in one entity and cause
another to vary in a repetitive way. When things change within an experiment they
are called variables. A variable is a characteristic that can change in value or
magnitude under different conditions. With experiments, there are three types of

Step four you will collect data, this is a critical step in the research process. It
provides information needed to solve or explain the research questions. Step five
involves analyzing results. In this step, all the information that has been collected to
answer the question is compared to the variables to determine the difference. Step
six involves presenting the finding of the research. This is where you will validate
or confirm your theory by the data collected and analyzed finally presenting your
findings or your theory. No matter what approach that is used in research, the
researchers want to maximize the study s reliability which is the consistency with
which the same measure produces similar results time after time. Researchers also
strive for validity which is the degree to which a measure is accurate and really
measures what it claims to measure. The six steps of the scientific method in research
and the relationship with between cause and correlation can be explained by saying
that correlation merely occur when we detect change in two simultaneously;
causation exist when we can demonstrate in one influence that causes the researchers
need to establish correlation and time order and rule out alternative explanations. A

Hemingway Literary Devices
Writers use several literary devices to when creating their stories, writers like Ernest
Hemingway incorporates symbolism, theme, and imagery. Hemingway focuses only
on the surface of the components without clearly exposing the theme. Most of his
short stories are similar to one another. Two of the short stories written in the 1920 s
are very different but had a lot of similarities that made them relate to each other. The
short storyHills like White Elephants and Cat In The Rain are the two stories that
relate to each other in various ways. Hills Like White Elephants is about a couple
that is facing an unexpected pregnancy and deciding whether to keep the baby or
not. Cat In The Rain is about an unstable couple that has lack of love... Show more

This literary device helps understand the importance of ideas by taking out details
and replacing it with symbols. It can be hard identifying symbols because of the
way the story might be written. In Hills Like White Elephants the story s dialogue
made it a bit hard to understand some of the symbols being used because of how
well they were interpreted in the story. There are many symbols that represent
much more than what is explicitly stated. The first symbols are the hills
representing Jigs fertility and pregnancy, and the American and how he sees the
pregnancy as a white elephant; a present that he doesn t want. In the story states,
The girl looked across the hills. They re lovely hills, she said. They don t look like
white elephants (Hemingway). Meaning that Jig actually saw a brighter future with
the baby, opposed to what the American is negatively saying. The next symbol is the
train station and how that represents an important decision to be made. It s a
midpoint between the present time and their future, whether they should keep the
baby or not, either to take the train or stay. Being between two worlds, and
differences. As well as the luggage having traveling stickers on them can symbolize
the journey that they ve been taking and where they are now. Where as in Cat in The
Rain he is using rain to symbolize sadness, because it often used as a negative effect.

Aim
I am trying to find out how the concentration of hydrochloric acid affects the reaction
time with sodium thiosulpahte.
If a clear solution of sodium thiosulphate is mixed with hydrochloric acid then a
reaction will occur where a creamy yellow precipitate of sulphur is produced.

They all increase the number of collisions.
Fair testing
* To make this a fair test I will only change one variable.
* Each experiment will be done three times so an average can be found.
* The same equipment will be used in each experiment.
Method
В· Measure out 50ml of thiosulphate and add it to the conical flask.
В· Draw a cross on a piece of paper and place the conical flask on it.
В· Measure out 10ml of acid and add it to the conical flask and start timing.
В· Look into the top of the conical flask and when the cross can no longer be seen
stop the stop watch.
В· Do the experiment again but measure out 8ml of hydrochloric acid. Then add
2ml of distilled water. The ratio for each experiment will therefore be 10:0, 8:2, 6:4,
4:6 and of acid to water
Conclusion
I conclude that whilst carrying out this investigation I found out that the more acid
was in the solution the cross on the paper disappeared quicker. This shows that the
more concentrated the acid is then the quicker the reaction time. My research about
the collision theory was correct and the more concentrated the solution is then the
number of collisions will be increased. If the numbers of collisions are increased then
the reaction time will also be increased.
My prediction that the less concentrated the acid is then the longer it will take for the
sodium thiosulphate to react with the acid is correct because experiment number 5
The Power of One (Movie) Essay
The film, the Power of One, followed the life of a boy named P.K. from a small
child to a handsome young man. It showed all the hardship and tragedy he had to
endure throughout his life. Although the movie could have focused more on the
apartheid, it instead portrayed the vulgarity of those times through the eyes of an
English boy. As time went on, P.K. slowly began to realize the full severity of the
apartheid. It was difficult for a child to comprehend how horribly people could
treat one another for no apparent reason. Despite all the obstacles he was forced to
overcome in his life, P.K. was a very strong character. He continued to move forward
and grew into a more motivated, caring person with each loved one he lost. Everyone

When Maria was wondering why the South African men were scared of them, it
was clear how sheltered and brainwashed she was. It was then that she realized how
unexposed she was and began to become more involved in the efforts to make a
change. P.K. had to deal with being a victim of racism as well. He knew how it felt
to be treated like he was worthless from when he was at boarding school and the
Afrikaans blamed him for how the English military treated them. The swastika was
shown on the main tormentor s arm as a symbol of the wickedness and power of
the apartheid. The Afrikaans in this movie were portrayed as the primary promoters
or racism and segregation. During one of the final scenes where the Afrikaner
officers were searching for P.K. and slaughtering many of the innocent people in their
way, flames were shown all throughout the village. The ruthless murders were being
compared to the evilness of hell. The African s voices were once again singing in the
background of this scene, conveying their innocence and strong united front.
Throughout the movie, they sang in times of crisis, tragedy, and celebration. This
film was very tear jerking and inspirational. There were many hidden symbols and
themes throughout and it was interesting to view it from the perspective of an
English child living in a country other than his own. It didn t focus on one particular
issue, but thoughtfully portrayed all aspects of P.K. s life,

Organizational leadership means the process of improving actions of line managers
and decision makers through better knowledge and understanding. To operate
effectively, organizations need to fit or align themselves with their environment,
strategies, capabilities and leadership skills. To compete successfully in highly
competitive and constantly changing business environment, however, organizations
also need to achieve fitness and the ability to learn and change to fit new
circumstances. In other words, firms can lose their competitive advantage through the
lapse of time, therefore leadership skills are the only sustainable competitive
advantage firms can have.
After a colleagues discussion, and a series research, we have decided that Hewlett
Packard (HP) will be the subject of our case study for the Organizational
Leadership course project. Reason being, the HP culture speaks, acts, and operates
within their values, which will be further elaborated in their motto that is widely
shared at HP, The HP Way . The core organizational values have been embedded and

Erikson s Theory On Development
From leaning objective 8.9, explains the development of the personality along with
social interpersonal skills, and the concept of the self from infancy to adulthood, I
wanted to compare the first five stages of Erikson s theory on development to Ken
Wilber s first five stages of his nine stages, that he calls spaces. The first five stages
of Erikson s theory, which he notes as crisis, are trust versus mistrust, autonomy
versus shame and doubt, initiative versus guilt, industry versus inferiority, and
identity versus role confusion. The first four personal spaces, of Wilber s theory
are the archaic, the magical, or egocentric, the mythical, and the rational. Erikson s
theory states that an emotional crisis must be successfully met for normal
development. Wilber s theory is similar in that he uses an example of a multiple
story building. If one stage isn t completely understood, but not mastered, then that
floor will end up leaning, and a building like that cannot be sustained for long
before its structural integrity is compromised. Erikson s theory is based that social
interactions were the most important thing to consider for healthy development of
children. The first stage, starting from infancy on to 1 year of age, has the crisis of
trust versus mistrust. This just means that they develop either of these skills based
on how well their needs are taken care of. The next crisis starts at 1 year of age up to
3 years of age, toddler age. This one is called autonomy

It is believed that trial marriages reduces numbers of divorces, but looking at the
recent researches we can find, that a couple who cohabit before marriage is twice as
likely to divorce, than those who do not cohabit. There are also people who do not
believe in marriage and think that it is an old fashioned in a modern world. Those
who think like that, see no reason ever to get married, and rather just live together.
There is also a financial side. Today to have a nice, traditional wedding is very
expensive and not every couple can afford it, so to live without being married is
much easier way. In the other cultures, like in Asia or Middle East, cohabitation is
still a taboo and it still means shame and social disapproval and in some places it is
illegal to live together before marriage. In this case differences between developed
countries and less developed countries are also very clear, but there is one side
which should make all cultures believe in same things, it is religion. There is no
religion, which allows us to have sexual intercourse before marriage, and Eastern
cultures strongly comply with these beliefs. But then it looks like Western cultures,
where cohabitation cases are much higher, are no longer religious.
Divorce also been more accepted today. Britain has one of the highest divorce rates

today s world is that it is much easier to divorce and it is not as
Using Custom Apps For The Android System
One of the ways that a user can expose himself to malware can be to hack Android
devices in order to get root privileges to install custom apps. This has several risks
as it elevates a user s privileges rerouting the Android system. With root privileges,
an Android user can do many things that the Android manufacturers have disabled
for you as a normal user. This creates security flaws because hazardous apps can be
installed and apps can get root privileges. User installed apps that require root
privileges can be especially dangerous. Illegal means will beget illegal acts. A general
rule of thumb is that if a user must do something that the Androiddesigners don t want
them to do, then it s for good reason. A good saying to follow by is that if you aren
t the consumer, then you are the product. This means that if you get things for free,
then there s almost always a catch. Security may be a beneficial factor for devices,
but ultimately the user is responsible.
The Google Play Store is an app that connects to a server hosted by Google that
stores a large collection of apps made by companies or users. These apps add
functionality to our phone. Developers use Google s software development kit or
SDK to create new apps for the Android platforms. If Developers uphold Security,
then hackers may not be as likely to create malware to reroute apps to the detriment
of the users. Developers may also look at the statistics and comments of the app to

Differences Between Metropolis And The Hunger Games
It is said that genre is linked to both social and cultural factors therefore changes in
these factors will result in changes in genre. Louise Gianettii (2005:359) states that
the most enduring genres tend to adapt to changing conditions. This statement is true
based on a similar statement made by Bordwell Thompson (2008:116) stating that
Genres are tightly bound to cultural factors This essay will discuss the link that is
between the science fictiongenre, its characteristics and conventions and changes in

Such fiction deals less with people than with mental attitude with abstract ideas and
theories. Dystopian fiction is conventionally realist to the extent that such texts
create worlds recognizably like our own, to the extent at least that they are inhabited
by human beings similar in essential ways to us. Yet these imagined settings are
also marked by an often startling alterity, a difference that is the textual figuration of
fear or desire or a complex mixture of the two. Dystopian fiction presents us with
futures that conform to our deepest terrors and wishes (Palmer 2008). Metropolis:
The city of Metropolisis modelled on New York as the filmmaker imagined it would

assure that members of society share some general notions about the types of films
that compete for attention (Bordwell Thompson, 2008:319). Genres can have social
functions either as vehicles for conveying ideological messages or as a ritual
practice for audiences for affirmation or reconciliation of issues in their lives as well
as cultural values The familiar characterizations and plots of genres may also serve to
distract the audience from real social problems Genre conventions arouse emotion by
touching on deep social uncertainties but then channel those emotions into approved

Religion And Its Impact On Religion
We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in.
Some of us just go one god further. (Dawkins 6). This essay is not going to be about
whether or not god is real, but instead it is going to focus on religion and its
followers. Religion has existed for thousands and thousands of years. Likewise, there
are thousands of very different religions all over the world. Religionhas slowly
attached itself like a parasite into societies everyday life. It has connected and
comforted many people over the years, but is religion actually useful anymore? The
answer to that is a definite no. Religions have fought for years attempting to
establish their dominance over one another and mankind. If religion was to disappear
forever, then the world would find itself in a state of bliss.
Arguments for
The first and most important point for curing the world of religion would be the
massive decline in wars and pointless deaths. When someone turns on the television
today the news is filled with talk about ISIS. Many Americans believe that they are
a joke and are nothing to be feared, but in reality they are the biggest threat to
modern society. As the New York Observer explains in one of their newspaper
articles,
The conquest of Iraq and Syria and of a few other countries in the Levant is a big
deal as far as the West is concerned, but it pales in comparison to ISIS true objectives,
which is no less than conquering the entire world and to converting it into an
Carbon Dioxide And Its Effect On Earth s World
In today s atmosphere, carbon dioxide (CO2) amounts to 400 parts per million
(ppm), but it hasn t always been that high, or low, depending on what we are
comparing it to. It is a trace gas that is vital to Earth s atmosphere and has been
around since the creation of Earth s first atmosphere, which occurred shortly after the
planet s creation. The advent of Earths second atmosphere happened when lighter
gases such as hydrogen escaped into space or were bound to molecules, leaving
gases like nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and other gases that were the product of
volcanism to make up the majority of the atmosphere. This volcanic activity was
fueled by gases that came to Earth following the late heavy bombardment of huge
asteroids . Following... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leading up to the present, levels of CO2 have fluctuated due to geochemical
processes such suspension of the gas in sediment, silicate rock weathering, and
volcanism. Also, human activity plays a large part in carbon deposition into the
atmosphere predominantly through the burning of fossil fuels and the cultivation
of livestock. On a drastically larger time scale the carbon cycle is ever so slightly
reducing atmospheric CO2 , which will ultimately bring the concentration down
near zero, causing all life on the planet to be wiped out. The carbon cycle,
including both terrestrial and aquatic processes, is the foundation under which
photosynthesis is possible. Aside from the carbon cycle, CO2 is a key element in
many other natural processes and phenomena such as the Greenhouse Effect and
Global Warming . After the advent of the second atmosphere, the atmosphere had
~100 times as much gas as the current atmosphere , which contained a large amount
of CO2 which is believed to have kept the Earth from freezing over. Over the next
few billion years the water vapor condensed to form oceans and rain that started to
absorb CO2. Eventually 50% of the carbon in the atmosphere would end up
suspended in the ocean. This caused ocean acidification, which is the decrease in
the pH level of the ocean. Plate tectonics played a large role in the gradual evolution
of the atmosphere by transferring carbon dioxide to and from large
Coal Is A Fossil Fuel
Coal is a fossil fuel and is the result of altered remains of prehistoric vegetation that
originally accumulated in swamps and peat bogs. The material that formed fossil
fuels varied greatly over time as each layer was buried. As a result of these variations
and the length of time the coal was forming, several types of coalwere created.
Depending upon its composition, each type of coal burns differently and releases
different types of emissions.
The first step of coal formation occurs when peat is transformed physically and
chemically. This process is known as coalification. During the process of
coalification, peat endures a plethora of changes due to bacterial decay,
compaction, heat, and time. Peat deposits differ in content from one another and
can contain everything from pristine plant parts such as roots, bark, spores, etc. to
decayed plants, decay products, and even charcoal if the peat caught fire during
accumulation. Coal is formed in anoxic swamp areas with a plethora of vegetation.
In such an environment, the accumulation of plant debris exceeds the rate of
bacterial decay of the debris. The bacterial decay rate is reduced because the
available oxygen in organic rich water is completely used up by the decaying
process. Anaerobic (without oxygen) decay is much slower than aerobic decay.
In order for the peat to turn into coal, it is necessary for the peat to be covered by
sediment. The peat is compacted and as a result, much water is squeezed out during
the first

1.56. Discuss the agency problem in detail.
An agent is hired by the principal to perform some duty that benefits the needs of the
principal. The agency problem is an issue that occurs when the agents use their
authority to make decisions in their own interest at the expense of the principals. For
example, company managers (agents) were put in place to make decisions that
maximize the wealth of the shareholders (principals) but may instead engage in
empire building or may make inefficient company decisions for job security. In order
to mitigate these potential agency problems, several mechanisms have evolved.
These include directly tying the compensation of managers to the success of the
firm; oversight and influence by the board of directors as well as outsiders such as
security analysts, creditors, or large institutional investors; the threat of a proxy
contest by unhappy shareholders to replace the current management team; or the
threat of takeover by another firm. However, most of these mechanisms have a low
chance of success or can create other problems. The best mechanism that prevents
agency problems is the threat of takeover by another firm. If the

What Are The Ethical Dilemma In Nursing

  • 1. An Essay On Environment Writing an essay on the topic of the environment can be both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies not only in the extensive scope of the subject but also in the responsibility it carries. Addressing environmental issues requires a deep understanding of various scientific, social, and economic aspects. One must delve into complex topics such as climate change, pollution, biodiversity loss, and resource depletion. Furthermore, crafting a compelling essay on the environment necessitates the ability to synthesize information from diverse sources. It requires not only presenting facts and statistics but also analyzing and interpreting them to convey a coherent message. Striking a balance between raising awareness about environmental challenges and proposing viable solutions adds an extra layer of complexity to the task. Additionally, the essay must be well-structured to engage the reader effectively. Developing a strong introduction that captures attention, presenting a well-reasoned argument in the body, and concluding with a thought-provoking summary require careful planning and organization. The language used should be precise, yet accessible, ensuring that the message reaches a broad audience. Moreover, staying updated with the latest developments in environmental science and policy is crucial for an essay on this topic. The dynamic nature of environmental issues demands continuous research and awareness of emerging solutions and challenges. In conclusion, while writing an essay on the environment can be a daunting task due to its multidisciplinary nature, the importance of addressing environmental concerns makes the effort worthwhile. It challenges writers to navigate complex subjects, integrate diverse information, and communicate a compelling message. • 5. Reflection Class Reflection On November 8, 2017, I implemented my whole group lesson at Maverick Elementary School in Mr. Alderson s Kindergarten class. It was near the end of the day, during the time Mr. Alderson s students usually did math, which was around 1 to 2 o clock. The students just came back from P.E. and were a bit tired looking. However, Mr. Alderson had been telling the class that I was going to do a fun math lesson after P.E., so the students were very excited when they came back. When the students came back inside of the classroom, I had them sit on the carpet. Before I introduced the lesson, I had them count from 1 to 10 as a class. While they were countingfrom 1 to 10, I wrote the numbers on the board. Once they counted to 10, I asked the class if they knew what numbercame after 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14. Practically the whole class knew the numbers 11 through 15, when I asked them. A lot of the students counted even further. However, I stopped the class at the number 15. I then told them what the lesson was going to be about. I told them that we were going to do a fun activity over the numbers 11 to 15. I told them that we were going to find different ways to represent the numbers 11 to 15. The standard or TEK that I used was TEK K.2B, which was about writing and representing whole numbers from 0 to at least 20 with and without objects or pictures. I chose to only go up to the number 15 for this lesson because Mr. Alderson s class was going over the numbers 11 through 15 this week.
  • 6. Aristotle s Notions Of Virtues Essay Aristotle s notions of virtues are the heart of the subject matter in Aretaic Ethics. The concept of Aretaic ethics comes from the Greek word arete which translates as human excellence or excellence of character, virtue (Virtue Ethics, 2013). Virtue ethics emphasizes being a certain person with certain quality of character. Its basic concept is that the virtueor value of the actions is not in the act itself, rather it is in the heart of the actor. Though it may seem not overly compatible with today s notions, I believe Aristotle s notions of virtues are an important precursor towards self fulfillment and harmonized society. The heart of virtue ethics is the search for eudaimonia translated in Greek for happiness or to the concept of human flourishing (Nagel, 1972). Aristotle believes that everything has a natural telos , an aim or a goal towards which things are headed. For humans, the natural telos is ultimate happiness which could be achieved through flourishing in all aspects of our lives. Virtue or excellence is a necessary condition for happiness. So what is virtue? According to Aristotle, virtue is a concept which exists as the mean between excess and deficiency (Sandel, 2010). It can be viewed as the middle point between having too much and having too little. So implementing specific virtues alongside practical wisdom over our lives would allow us to flourish leading towards happiness. I believe that applying Aristotle s notions of virtue alongside practical

In Hardy s tragic novel The Mayor of Casterbridge, an entirely different relationship is portrayed that greatly differs from that of Gabriel Oak and Bathsheba Everdene s in Far From the Madding Crowd. Unlike the latter, the beginning of The Mayor of Casterbridge articulates the marriage of Michael and Susan Henchard as expendable when the disconsolate Michael sells his wife and daughter to a sailor. The immediate separation and later reunion of the couple conveys a theme that the need for propriety can outweigh one s quest for justice; and so, this broken and complicated relationship illustrates the commonality of faults in human nature. In the very first chapter of the novel, Michael implores the people at an auction to buy Susan and his daughter Elizabeth Jane, remarking the woman is no good to me. Who ll have her? (Hardy). This establishes a desperate view of Michael that is hard to shake in the real world considering that, research has in fact found that it can take up to 6 months of regular contact with someone to change their initial impression (McKay) which is why introducing a main character in a directly negative situation even if the rest of the book tries to make up for that one event will affect the way the

Originally, the dialysis bag with glucose and starch was a clear color, but when the I2KI solution diffused into the bag, the solution turned black because I2KI turns a solution black when the presence of starch is detected. Many Event planners will accomplish this by inviting a small group of 5 15 people to come sit down and talk to you in a focus group. Modernization Of The Middle East At the start of the 18th century, Middle Eastern countries witnessed their Eastern neighbors being overtaken by Western Europe and were faced with a choice: to pick apart or to be picked apart. It was from this dilemma that defensive developmentalism emerged in the Middle East. Empires such as the Ottomans, Persia, Tunisia, and Egypt began the process of centralizing their authority in order to assert effective control over their populations. The chief goal of defensive developmentalism for these empires was to assert their autonomy, whether that be autonomy from the Ottomans in the case of Egypt and Tunisia, or from outside imperialists in the Ottoman Empireand Persia. In order to accomplish these goals, defensive developmentalists undertook extensive reforms to establish their empires as relevant worldwide powers. Defensive developmentalists adopted extensive reforms in order to accomplish their goal of asserting their autonomy over outside forces. As the chief worry for these empires was outside penetration, military restructuring became an essential aspect to their reform. A centralized, organized military gave empires the ability to do the picking apart, or at the very least prevent from being picked apart. These modern armies were built on the basis of population, which introduced the policy of conscription to the Middle East. Coupled with military restructuring was bureaucratic reform, or a shift from mediated to unmediated states. By centralizing their authority,

The discovery drove over hundreds of thousands people of all ethnic backgrounds to America s west coast. Prior to the Gold Rush, California was dominated by Mexican rancheros and Native Americans. President Polk had a vision for Americans to expand westward. Polk believed that America could span coast to coast and saw the Gold Rush as the perfect opportunity to achieve his goal of manifest destiny. This was because of urban expansion of the San Francisco, the need for more resources, and the cultural diversity. The urbanization in part with rapid industrialization of San Francisco quickly developed the city economically. There they manufactured stamp mills, steam engines, and nozzles for hydraulic operations. Already by 1861 more than a thousand workers in San Francisco toiled in the manufacture of mining equipment. The city boasted thirteen iron foundries and thirteen machine shops...reducing the need for imports of the East. (A Golden State: Mining and Economic Development in Gold Rush California). Urbanization and industrialization created a stronger infrastructure for the city. In 1850, ferry service was established and in 1873, cable cars were added as transportation (Planning History of San Francisco). Many times miners were forced to create technological innovations. Problems with water demanded that dams be constructed and this brought earliest scientific impulse to gold country. (Gold Rush and California Statehood). As more people flooded into California, it became increasingly more competitive for miners to make a profit. After the first few years, much of the gold on the surface of rivers and land had been found. People who did find gold, made barely enough to sustain themselves, much less make a profit. Many turned to opening small businesses. Merchants profited most from the Gold Rush because they were able to monopolize prices with the high demand of supplies with few suppliers. They opened restaurants, saloons, and general stores. The city s population skyrocketed immediately after the discovery of gold. People brought their money from home hoping to invest it in hopes of gaining a larger profit from the gold mining. People had economic incentives for staying

The travel to California, as advertised by the poster, would start by departing from New York on 22nd of March, sailing around Cape Horn and hopefully arriving at California after 90 days. A careful analysis of this object reveals that the date 1858 not in the original printing is just a guess written by someone at an unidentified time. The corrected date should be 1852 since this is the year Capt. Austin was commanding it and the ship is described as entirely new . Also, on 8 March 1858, The North American was involved in a collision which took place off Point Lynas causing the sinking of the Spanish barque Tecla Carmen, apparently without the loss of life. As a consequence, the ship was impounded (Haggard 1864:79 80). A document would confirm 1852 as the correct date. In a letter from

The first five stages of Erikson s theory, which he notes as crisis, are trust versus mistrust, autonomy versus shame and doubt, initiative versus guilt, industry versus inferiority, and identity versus role confusion. The first four personal spaces, of Wilber s theory are the archaic, the magical, or egocentric, the mythical, and the rational. Erikson s theory states that an emotional crisis must be successfully met for normal development. Wilber s theory is similar in that he uses an example of a multiple story building. If one stage isn t completely understood, but not mastered, then that floor will end up leaning, and a building like that cannot be sustained for long before its structural integrity is compromised. Erikson s theory is based that social interactions were the most important thing to consider for healthy development of children. The first stage, starting from infancy on to 1 year of age, has the crisis of trust versus mistrust. This just means that they develop either of these skills based on how well their needs are taken care of. The next crisis starts at 1 year of age up to 3 years of age, toddler age. It is believed that trial marriages reduces numbers of divorces, but looking at the recent researches we can find, that a couple who cohabit before marriage is twice as likely to divorce, than those who do not cohabit. There are also people who do not believe in marriage and think that it is an old fashioned in a modern world. Those who think like that, see no reason ever to get married, and rather just live together. There is also a financial side. Today to have a nice, traditional wedding is very expensive and not every couple can afford it, so to live without being married is much easier way. In the other cultures, like in Asia or Middle East, cohabitation is still a taboo and it still means shame and social disapproval and in some places it is illegal to live together before marriage. In this case differences between developed countries and less developed countries are also very clear, but there is one side which should make all cultures believe in same things, it is religion. There is no religion, which allows us to have sexual intercourse before marriage, and Eastern cultures strongly comply with these beliefs. But then it looks like Western cultures, where cohabitation cases are much higher, are no longer religious. Divorce also been more accepted today. Britain has one of the highest divorce rates in the Europe. The simple answer to a question why divorces are increasing in today s world is that it is much easier to divorce and it is not as
  • 46. Using Custom Apps For The Android System One of the ways that a user can expose himself to malware can be to hack Android devices in order to get root privileges to install custom apps. This has several risks as it elevates a user s privileges rerouting the Android system. With root privileges, an Android user can do many things that the Android manufacturers have disabled for you as a normal user. This creates security flaws because hazardous apps can be installed and apps can get root privileges. User installed apps that require root privileges can be especially dangerous. Illegal means will beget illegal acts. A general rule of thumb is that if a user must do something that the Androiddesigners don t want them to do, then it s for good reason. A good saying to follow by is that if you aren t the consumer, then you are the product. This means that if you get things for free, then there s almost always a catch. Security may be a beneficial factor for devices, but ultimately the user is responsible. The Google Play Store is an app that connects to a server hosted by Google that stores a large collection of apps made by companies or users. These apps add functionality to our phone. Developers use Google s software development kit or SDK to create new apps for the Android platforms. If Developers uphold Security, then hackers may not be as likely to create malware to reroute apps to the detriment of the users. Developers may also look at the statistics and comments of the app to learn what bugs are still in the app
  • 47. Differences Between Metropolis And The Hunger Games It is said that genre is linked to both social and cultural factors therefore changes in these factors will result in changes in genre. Louise Gianettii (2005:359) states that the most enduring genres tend to adapt to changing conditions. This statement is true based on a similar statement made by Bordwell Thompson (2008:116) stating that Genres are tightly bound to cultural factors This essay will discuss the link that is between the science fictiongenre, its characteristics and conventions and changes in society which are visible in the two films set almost nine decades apart: Metropolis (1927) and The Hunger Games and the way in which both filmrepresent dystopian futuristic societies which focuses on the disturbed state of the world... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such fiction deals less with people than with mental attitude with abstract ideas and theories. Dystopian fiction is conventionally realist to the extent that such texts create worlds recognizably like our own, to the extent at least that they are inhabited by human beings similar in essential ways to us. Yet these imagined settings are also marked by an often startling alterity, a difference that is the textual figuration of fear or desire or a complex mixture of the two. Dystopian fiction presents us with futures that conform to our deepest terrors and wishes (Palmer 2008). Metropolis: The city of Metropolisis modelled on New York as the filmmaker imagined it would appear a century into the future which today looks like something straight out of Blade Runner: skyscrapers everywhere, jets flying at all levels, monorails linking every other floor, and helicopters hovering in the midst of all of it. Genres help assure that members of society share some general notions about the types of films that compete for attention (Bordwell Thompson, 2008:319). Genres can have social functions either as vehicles for conveying ideological messages or as a ritual practice for audiences for affirmation or reconciliation of issues in their lives as well as cultural values The familiar characterizations and plots of genres may also serve to distract the audience from real social problems Genre conventions arouse emotion by touching on deep social uncertainties but then channel those emotions into approved

This essay is not going to be about whether or not god is real, but instead it is going to focus on religion and its followers. Religion has existed for thousands and thousands of years. Likewise, there are thousands of very different religions all over the world. Religionhas slowly attached itself like a parasite into societies everyday life. It has connected and comforted many people over the years, but is religion actually useful anymore? The answer to that is a definite no. Religions have fought for years attempting to establish their dominance over one another and mankind. If religion was to disappear forever, then the world would find itself in a state of bliss. Arguments for The first and most important point for curing the world of religion would be the massive decline in wars and pointless deaths. When someone turns on the television today the news is filled with talk about ISIS. Many Americans believe that they are a joke and are nothing to be feared, but in reality they are the biggest threat to modern society. As the New York Observer explains in one of their newspaper articles, The conquest of Iraq and Syria and of a few other countries in the Levant is a big deal as far as the West is concerned, but it pales in comparison to ISIS true objectives, which is no less than conquering the entire world and to converting it into an
  • 50. Carbon Dioxide And Its Effect On Earth s World In today s atmosphere, carbon dioxide (CO2) amounts to 400 parts per million (ppm), but it hasn t always been that high, or low, depending on what we are comparing it to. It is a trace gas that is vital to Earth s atmosphere and has been around since the creation of Earth s first atmosphere, which occurred shortly after the planet s creation. The advent of Earths second atmosphere happened when lighter gases such as hydrogen escaped into space or were bound to molecules, leaving gases like nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and other gases that were the product of volcanism to make up the majority of the atmosphere. This volcanic activity was fueled by gases that came to Earth following the late heavy bombardment of huge asteroids . Following... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Leading up to the present, levels of CO2 have fluctuated due to geochemical processes such suspension of the gas in sediment, silicate rock weathering, and volcanism. Also, human activity plays a large part in carbon deposition into the atmosphere predominantly through the burning of fossil fuels and the cultivation of livestock. On a drastically larger time scale the carbon cycle is ever so slightly reducing atmospheric CO2 , which will ultimately bring the concentration down near zero, causing all life on the planet to be wiped out. The carbon cycle, including both terrestrial and aquatic processes, is the foundation under which photosynthesis is possible. Aside from the carbon cycle, CO2 is a key element in many other natural processes and phenomena such as the Greenhouse Effect and Global Warming . After the advent of the second atmosphere, the atmosphere had ~100 times as much gas as the current atmosphere , which contained a large amount of CO2 which is believed to have kept the Earth from freezing over. Over the next few billion years the water vapor condensed to form oceans and rain that started to absorb CO2. Eventually 50% of the carbon in the atmosphere would end up suspended in the ocean. This caused ocean acidification, which is the decrease in the pH level of the ocean. Plate tectonics played a large role in the gradual evolution of the atmosphere by transferring carbon dioxide to and from large
  • 51. Coal Is A Fossil Fuel Coal is a fossil fuel and is the result of altered remains of prehistoric vegetation that originally accumulated in swamps and peat bogs. The material that formed fossil fuels varied greatly over time as each layer was buried. As a result of these variations and the length of time the coal was forming, several types of coalwere created. Depending upon its composition, each type of coal burns differently and releases different types of emissions. The first step of coal formation occurs when peat is transformed physically and chemically. This process is known as coalification. During the process of coalification, peat endures a plethora of changes due to bacterial decay, compaction, heat, and time. Peat deposits differ in content from one another and can contain everything from pristine plant parts such as roots, bark, spores, etc. to decayed plants, decay products, and even charcoal if the peat caught fire during accumulation. Coal is formed in anoxic swamp areas with a plethora of vegetation. In such an environment, the accumulation of plant debris exceeds the rate of bacterial decay of the debris. The bacterial decay rate is reduced because the available oxygen in organic rich water is completely used up by the decaying process. Anaerobic (without oxygen) decay is much slower than aerobic decay. In order for the peat to turn into coal, it is necessary for the peat to be covered by sediment. The peat is compacted and as a result, much water is squeezed out during the first

An agent is hired by the principal to perform some duty that benefits the needs of the principal. The agency problem is an issue that occurs when the agents use their authority to make decisions in their own interest at the expense of the principals. For example, company managers (agents) were put in place to make decisions that maximize the wealth of the shareholders (principals) but may instead engage in empire building or may make inefficient company decisions for job security. In order to mitigate these potential agency problems, several mechanisms have evolved. These include directly tying the compensation of managers to the success of the firm; oversight and influence by the board of directors as well as outsiders such as security analysts, creditors, or large institutional investors; the threat of a proxy contest by unhappy shareholders to replace the current management team; or the threat of takeover by another firm. However, most of these mechanisms have a low chance of success or can create other problems. The best mechanism that prevents agency problems is the threat of takeover by another firm. If the
