20. SOME NOTES ON GOVERNANCE, RISK MANAGEMENT AND COMPLIANCE
GRC is an acronym that denotes governance, risk management and compliance — but the real story of GRC is so much
more
GRC is the integrated collection of capabilities that enable an organisation to reliably achieve objectives while
addressing uncertainty and acting with integrity – this is the outcome that is known as Principled Performance
Managing GRC information in various spreadsheets or standard office applications is still a very common practice. This
setup is usually satisfactory until an organisation wishes to combine and aggregate the gathered information. This
becomes expensive and ineffective as it normally requires extensive conversion between formats and definitions. In the
worst case, the obtained information is irrelevant or misleading. An integrated GRC system improves efficiency within
organisations in three key aspects:
• Organisations can move from fragmented data collection to asking critical questions once, hence reducing
impact on business
• Stand-alone GRC systems (i.e. one system per GRC domain) are replaced with one integrated GRC system,
which reduces cost and complexity while increasing the likelihood of effective and efficient collaboration
• Overlapping reporting is replaced with integrated reporting, thus showing consistent and recognisable
information with different focus and different purpose to management and board
While it should be noted that creating and working with a new standard is a journey that many may find cumbersome
initially (as it requires a change in mind-set and action), it has visible payoffs. Not only does management information
become instantly accessible and more accurate, the occurrence of incidents are subsequently reduced. Most important,
organisations no longer find themselves focusing on the troubleshooting of problems, but are able to direct their
attention to supporting business enhancements
Being able to manage GRC challenges in a transparent and cost-effective way while avoiding bureaucracy, process lock-
down and allowing for development and change has the potential to become a competitive advantage
Maintaining control is a strategic enabler in an ever-changing environment.

42. Feature Comparison
• We cannot find anywhere a direct one to one comparison for the econsys software. By that we mean a
product that has the same spectrum of coverage (contracting industry - enquiry to end of liability) and
already contains ‘domain specific’ flows (isn’t a blank platform to be developed for your business needs).
• Econsys spans at least three main spheres of business that are traditionally covered by software
applications,
• CRM - Customer relationship management – traditionally sales specific
• Contract Management - traditionally commercial, legal and operational software
• GRC - Governance, Risk Management and Compliance – traditionally ‘whole of business’ applications.
• As such we have compared our product to companies in those three arenas and attach our comparison of
features for your review.
• There is also ample opportunity for a company to effectively build their own work flow to suit the needs of
their business using proprietary software available, known as BPM [Business process management]
software. Examples are https://asana.com/ , https://monday.com and https://www.smartsheet.com . The
amount of input and time needed to make the product suit your business can be huge. Econsys is
essentially a product that has been developed for businesses like Schneider to around 90% (we think) of
what you need, based on our knowledge of the subject matter – with the last bits needed to make it your
business specific.
• The following spreadsheet compares the features of econsys with the features of examples of software
that is in the three arenas I mention above. The feature list was derived from
https://www.capterra.com/grc-software/ which is a leading comparison site for finding and evaluating
business software.
