Sickle Cell Disease Epidemiology Case Study
Epidemiology:
The highest incidence of sickle cell disease is particularly in sub Saharan Africa, tribal regions of India
and the Middle East and tropical regions,.[67] Migration of significant populations from these high
frequency areas to low frequency states in Europe has dramatically amplified in recent decades and in
some European countries sickle cell disease is now more familiar genetic conditions such as
haemophilia and cystic fibrosis.[68] As 176,000 deaths due to SCD in 2013 up from 113,000 deaths in
1990.[10]
Sickle cell disease is more common among people whose ancestors lived in tropical and sub tropical

communities, where the prevalence of SCD ranges from 9.4 to 22.2% in widespread areas of

Shaping A Christian Worldview Essay
One of the ongoing struggles for the church and Christianity is with culture. Questions have always
surfaced about where we should stand on issues or whether it is permissible to isolate ourselves in all
areas of life. Shaping A Christian Worldview suggests that hiding is not the preferred option, rather it
is our duty to transform our modern culture. To do this we must be closely positioned with Scripture.
Accomplishing this keeps the Christian grounded and does not give secular culture undue stature.
Jesus taught that the salt of believers transformed by the gospel would alter the world. This idea
means that contemporary Christians must be discerners of truth in our time. Since, the process of
transforming culture requires that we know what needs to be changed and what does not. God has
entrusted us with duty to help transform under the comprehension of Biblical claims. ... Show more

God s mandate included instructions relating to the stewardship of His creation. The Bible says, God
blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule
over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the
ground (Gen. 1:28). Man, being created in God s image, is to subdue and to form a culture. The
textbook rightly points out the secularism and pluralism dominates many aspects of this worldly
culture. This has been reflected in many different ways. Much of America has lost belief in a divine
creator, which has moved us down a path of no foundation for order. Second, modern thought has
instilled a sense of individual achievement and a loss of a moral conscience where our moral norms
are absent of religion. Finally, as we have progressed in modern society, these effects have lead to a
fragile secular

Solar Energy Disadvantages
Now we will talk about the experiences of some developed countries in the exploitation of solar
energy as renewable energy and their planes for development in this filed and the areas in which these
countries planning to use the solar energy. (www.ezinearticles.com )
Germany Ten thousand megawatts: Germany is one of the most countries use of solar energy, and
plans because the rate of use will be 100% by the year 2050. In view of the year 2009 alone, we find
that Germany has installed 3,806 megawatts of solar power generators; any more than the full capacity
of solar energy Spain, and nearly eight times what the United States has recently install it.
Spain
3 500 megawatts: for as long as Spain was the leader in the field of solar energy use in their capacity
of 2008 amounted to the equivalent of Al2605 megawatts, but abandoned this position in favor of
Germany, so the sharp decline in that year s event in 2009, where Spain is the time did not ride only
69 megawatts only. However, Spain is expected to return to the top spot this year.

Japan
2,700 MW: Maybe it is the sudden occupation of Japan to third place, but it plans to achieve an
ambitious goal through access of 28 gaga watts by 2020 and 53 gaga watts by the year 2030. Note that
Japan has in 2009 invested $ 9 billion for the program of solar energy is currently planning the
government for the use of solar energy in 32 thousand schools.

Global Warming Is A Big Problem

Global Warming
Global warming is a big problem and impacts our environment in a negative way because it is heating
the Earth. Global warming impacts all of the life around us even though not many people recognize it.
There are many problems that global warming will make to our environment and it has already
impacted it over time. Although, there are many problems, there are also solutions to stop global
warming. Climate change is most closely related to global warming and many scientists have found
ways to try and put a stop to it.
One of the biggest problems of global warming is the global climate change that is occurring. Some
examples of how it is changing is that temperatures are rising and have ... Show more content on

Global warming also causes intense weather and weather patterns. When the ocean water heats up,
then that means it will create hurricanes and as the Earth continues to heat up then it will make even
stronger hurricanes over time. Hurricanes are increasing because in some ocean basins, hurricane
intensification has been linked to rising ocean temperatures (Global Warming Impacts). Other times of
weather that can occur in some areas are flooded because of excess precipitation. Excess precipitation
can be a bad thing because flooding is destroying a lot of things, for example military bases near the
coast. Wildfires are beginning to occur more often now since the Earth is heating up which is a
disaster because that affects plants and animals. If wildfires occur, then many forests will die and that
will pollute the air even more. `
There are a few solutions to stop global warming and the most common one is to reduce the burning
of fossil fuels. Whenever people use an automobile, a car, bus, or plane, then that is polluting the air,
which will warm the Earth because the ozone layer is getting destroyed. Although many people have
to have transportation, if they cut down on their driving or got more energy efficient cars then it would
help a lot. The car that you buy is a very important factor because each gallon of gas you use is
responsible for 25 pounds of heat trapping gases in the atmosphere (Ten). Whenever people burn fossil
fuels it creates

Local Ternary Pattern (DRLTP) for object recognition. The proposed DLBP and DRLTP are resultant
from the disadvantage of the Local Binary Pattern (LBP), Local Ternary Pattern (LTP) and Robust
LBP (RLBP).The LBP system and the RLBP system are mapped in the same block .The proposed
feature indentifies the problem of discrimination between a bright object against dark background and
vice versa. The proposed feature also retains contrast information for object contours the LBP, LTP

Arshdeep Singh Mrs. Mason English 10 A 24 February 2016 North Korea Iran in a race to be the best
developers of the worst Nuclear weapons From the 1700 s to the 1900 s, humankind has gained much
knowledge of nuclear energy, all of which started from mere curiosity to understanding the electrons,
protons and neutrons. The knowledge gained over the span of 200 years was so vast that the
humankind has evolved usage of nuclear energy from being beneficial to the humankind to becoming
weapons of mass destruction. It has left the world leaders bewildered as to whether these
advancements in development of nuclear weapons is for welfare of the country or it is to serve
purposes that are far more dangerous than can be encompassed. But the enrichment of nuclear
weapons each year by countries has definitely spurred the scientific community and these actions have
been under scrutiny by the world leaders. In the present day world, out of 196 countries that exist on
this planet, two countries have arisen to be the biggest threats all owing to nuclear weapons. North
Korea and Iran joined this race of exponential development of nuclear weapons and have posed threats
of all sorts to rest of the world with their constant development of nuclear weapons. In this race, the
North Korea has definitely left Iran behind. Therefore, threat of nuclear war with North Korea is
greater than with Iran. These countries have used their capability of nuclear weapons development to

Long Overdue Yard Debris
The warmer months of the year are great for getting any long overdue yard work done. You can use
the long days to clear up detritus that has started to take over or to finally find a new home for objects
you only planned to house outside temporarily. The yard debris removal tips below will help you to

What Are Some Starter Tips for Removing Yard Debris?
1. Remove Large Objects
When you first begin cleaning up your yard, start removing all of the large items lying around, such as
tree limbs, rocks, or any furniture you might have moved to this area. If you are trying to add a garden
or do some landscaping, think about how you might reuse some of these objects for decorative
purposes. For the rest, it might be necessary to get

The Crisis Of Identity By William Faulkner
The Crisis of Identity Arguably one of the greatest writers of the twentieth century, William Faulkner
was plagued with a crisis of identity from a young age. Inadequate in nearly every aspect of his life,
Faulkner projected his personal shortcomings onto many of his characters, such as with Miss Emily
Grierson in A Rose for Emily and Wash Jones in Wash. However, instead of victimizing these
characters within his works, Faulkner chooses to rely almost exclusively on the lowborn or outcasts,
such as Wash and Miss Emily, as examples of heroism. Unconventional characters like Wash Jones
and Emily Grierson pose a test for Faulkner s readers. If the reader judges these characters with a
conventional eye, seeing one other as a murderous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This isolation prevented Miss Emily from marrying at a suitable age, therefore leaving her ineligible
after her father s death. In Wash, Faulkner depicts Wash Jones as being the very bottom of society, an
image that is strengthened by the foil of Thomas Sutpen. Unlike Sutpen, a self made man who has
risen to the top of society, Wash Jones is the lowest of the low. Wash s exceptionally degraded status at
the bottom of the social heap makes it so that even a Negro woman can block his entrance to Sutpen s
kitchen: Stop right dar, white man. Stop right whar you is. You ain t never crossed dese steps whilst
Cunnel (Sutpen) here, and you ain t ghy do hit now (131). Wash Jones s monumental identity issues
are further exemplified through his cowardliness. When Colonel Sutpen goes off to fight for the
Confederacy, Wash does not go; he instead tells anyone he can that he is looking after Sutpen s
plantation and slaves. However, this was a lie, as most of them... to whom he told it, knew, though
there were some who believed that [Wash] really believed it, though even these believed that he had
better sense than to put it to the test with Mrs. Sutpen or the Sutpen slaves (130). Like Faulkner, both
Miss Emily and Wash Jones suffer from significant identity issues; however it is these issues that give
them the potential to be the atypical heroes that Faulkner crafts. Similar to

identifying particular aspects of living situations in both camps and prisons, and also analyzing
women s perspectives of the circumstances they were forced upon. Women suffered from continuous

There was nothing about the camps overall structure that would prevent interaction between men and
women. This meant that sex was inevitable in the Gulags, sex was a source of pleasure and resistance,
however, it was also exchange for protection, rations, and better food. Women used their sexuality to
better their living situations in the Gulags; they were able to have a sense of sexual autonomy. They
could choose to use relationships with men to negotiate power dynamics and limit the harshness and
isolation of daily life. With intimacy taking place in the Gulags there was often a chance of conceiving
a child, pregnant women in the prison were not often forced to have abortions but they were forced to

The Pros And Cons Of North Korean Nuclear War
its missiles cannot fly far enough carrying a heavy nuclear warhead. However, they may make
progress in the future, and Secretary Hagel s announcement that the U.S. plans to position interceptors
in Alaska and possibly on the east coast to shoot down North Korean missiles is important. The more
immediate danger, however, is that the North could use nuclear weapons against its neighbors, South
Korea and Japan. If there is a war on the peninsula, experts believe Pyongyang could probably put
nuclear warheads on shorter range missiles and attack major population centers. A North Korean

sent B 2 and B 52 bombers able to carry nuclear weapons to South Korea during the current crisis to
calm our ally s growing security concerns while telegraphing a warning to the North. Whether such an
approach will remain effective in the future is unclear. Washington s moment of truth may come if
North Korea develops nuclear armed missiles able to reach the United States and South Koreans ask
themselves whether the U.S. will risk sacrificing Los Angeles to protect Seoul. Many South Koreans
doubt American reliability even today, despite 50 years of alliance. And some cite the distressing
example of Washington pulling out of Vietnam during the 1970s. With confidence in U.S. security
guarantees already in question, an emboldened Pyongyang could erode that confidence even further.
Fourth is an increased risk of war by miscalculation . Pyongyang may believe that its nuclear arsenal
gives it more freedom to conduct limited military provocations such as the 2010 sinking of a South
Korean ship and artillery attack on the South s Yeonpyeong Island without reprisal. That was true
then, although Washington seems to have restrained the South from launching a serious military
response to those actions for fear of triggering a second Korean war. However, now Seoul is working

Abstinence In Schools
Sex education has been the single most controversial debate in the United States education systems
within the past few decades, but was first introduced as early as 1905 where there was a rally for sex
education within schools in attempts to eradicate venereal disease (The Beginning of Sex Education in
the U.S.: A Historical Perspective). There was not much support at this time though, until the 1980 s
when there was the HIV/AID s epidemic. This was when more people became aware of what was
going on and tried figuring out how to put a stop to it, and quick. Surprisingly, in the early twentieth
century, people were actually taught to be fearful of sex and that such contact could result in fatality.
Many young boys and girls were actually taught ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They argue there is something simply wrong with the idea that teaching kids about risky behavior is
something that could be avoided all together. Some advocates for abstinence only programs argue that
there should not be sex education taught in public schools because it is the parents place to talk about
sex in that much detail with their own child (Should sexual education be taught in public schools?).
However, what happens to the children who do not receive the same, well educated treatment from
their parents as others? Not all children have parents who know all the right information to tell them,
the right answers to their questions, or maybe they just do not care to further explain to them what it is
all about. That is where the school steps in, and teaches them everything they need to know to make
the right choices. They also argue that it could make females a lot more promiscuous as well as males
more curious for themselves. Though, in a study of 35 sex education programs around the world,
statistics from the World Health Organization found there is no evidence that these comprehensive
programs encourage any sort of negative promiscuity or sexual activity (Carnal Knowledge: The sex
ed debate). Some students also say that learning that type of information in the classroom is
sometimes uncomfortable which makes them distracted and not focused in on the main lesson of
sexual education. And even though, according to research, teaching about sex education has positive
impacts on children and provides them all with the information they need to make life affirming
decisions for themselves, opposing groups continue to stand by their beliefs that it has negative
impacts and makes kids so much more tempted to actually do it. However, we still witness a large sum
of teenage pregnancies each year. Why is this? The whole

Along the Ancient Chinese History, Qin State was the first one that conquered six major states and

dramatically. For millions of black Americans, news of the U.S. Supreme Court s landmark decision in
Brown v. Board of Education meant, at last, that they and their children no longer had to attend
separate schools. Brown v. Board of Education was a Supreme Court ruling that changed the life of
every American forever.
In Topeka, Kansas, a black third grader named Linda Brown had to walk one mile through a railroad

Brown and the NAACP appealed to the Supreme Court on October 1, 1951. Their case was combined
with other cases that challenged school segregation in South Carolina, Virginia, and Delaware. The
Supreme Court first heard the cases on December 9, 1952, but failed to reach a decision. The judges
had to decide whether or not the writers of the Fourteenth Amendment had desegregated schools in
mind. The court ruling eventually came to be unanimous. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
asked this question in the decision read on May 17, 1954: Does segregation of children in public
schools solely on the basis of race, even though the physical facilities and other tangible factors may
be equal, deprive children of the minority group of equal educational opportunities? (The National
Center for Public Research). They struck down the separate but equal doctrine of Plessy for public
education saying that it has no place , ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, and required the desegregation of
schools across America (The National Center For Public Research).
On that Monday in May, the high court s ruling that outlawed school segregation in the United States
generated urgent news flashes on the radio and frenzied black. One swift and unanimous decision by
the top judges in the land was going to end segregation in public schools. Southern politicians reacted
with such fury and fear that they immediately called the day Black Monday. South Carolina Gov.

Essay on Solving the Foreclosure Crisis
The frequency of foreclosure in our nation today is dangerously high. The strain from the recent
economic downturn has put many families and individuals in a financial chokehold preventing them
from being able to make their monthly mortgage payments. Consequently, many of these people feel
they ve punched a one way ticket to foreclosure. With all these homes being foreclosed on, we face a
very real crisis.
The best way to solve this foreclosure crisis is preventing homes from foreclosing one house at a time.
The American family needs a simple option to save their home. My solution is based upon the concept
of the homeowner paying what they are capable today, with a long term solution for the homeowner to
repay the entire debt eventually. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The simple solution is to reduce the home owner s monthly payment to an amount they can afford, by
reducing the size of the loan balance. The framework would be as follows:
Government stimulus funds are applied to pay down the owner s home loan to the bank with two
caveats. First, the bank must re amortize the payments on the lower loan amount; second, the
government funds become a filed lien (second mortgage) on the home. This is a RELIEF loan.
1. This program is open to every low, moderate, and high income family
2. All participants must file a full tax return each year
3. The amount of the government RELIEF loan cannot exceed 40% of the home s tax assessed value ,
or $100,000 maximum
4. Government loans are repaid through the following:
 Apply IRS refunds to the balance
 Allow 401K withdrawals without penalties to be applied to the balance
 Apply a set percentage of federal entitlement money to the balance (Possibly 15%)
 Apply proceeds from the future sale of the home to the balance (Any remaining balance becomes an
unsecured loan)
5. The RELIEF loan is interest free for first five years. The interest rate for the remaining years will be
nominal (Possibly 2%)
EXAMPLE
Take a typical family of five that purchased their house in 2007 at the median house price in Portland,
OR of $295,200. With a typical home loan of 6% interest rate over 30 years, they are making monthly
principal and interest payments of $1681. After two years, they now

Domestic Violence Against Women in Canada Essay
Introduction Intimate partner violence has been a significant issue for centuries in all countries. Since
1974, nearly 2,600 spousal homicides have been recorded in Canada (Bunge, 2002). Of these
homicides, more than three quarters have been against women. Although through feminism and the
women s liberation movement, there has been a slight improvement in the incidences of violence
against women, there has also been a drastic change in the perception of the issue by society. After
reviewing the most recent literature on violence against women and victimization through intimate
partners, it has become prevalent that there are now two crucial stances that are taken. The first
position is that of the women being victimized as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, changing nature of intimate relationships, increasing gender equality, legislative
changes, policy and procedural changes, etc. (Bunge, 2002). Between 1974 and 2000, the homicide
rate for women decreased by 62% and the homicide rate for men dropped by more than half 55%
(Bunge, 2002) which demonstrates the drastic decline in intimate partner violence including
homicides. Secondly, one of the general concepts behind the literature examined would be the idea
that intimate partner violence is now going through a process of normalization. For instance, popular
women s magazines frame domestic violence in a way that normalizes the victims s responsibility
while ignoring the role of the abuser and society (Berns, 2001). Individuals construct their own
conceptions of what is normal and acceptable. These conceptions, what Cicourel (1968) calls
background expectancies govern all social interaction (Berns, 2001). With the norms that society
creates being the main control of interaction amongst society, it is clear that by allowing the
perspective of intimate partner violence as normal will create unawareness about the issue and may
perpetuate further issues. Women who have respect and power outside the home through community
activities, including participation in microcredit schemes, are less likely to be abused than those who
do not (Jewkes, 2002).

Islamic Teachings And Principles Of Isis

Inevitable Blowback Many claim that ISIS has been created as a result of Islamic teachings and
principles. This is false. Islam has existed for over 1,400 years. If the above claim had an ounce of
truth to it, ISIS would have emerged long ago. Constant instability in the Middle East and the struggle
for political power in the region are some, but not all of the reasons for ISIS existence. State
sponsored Islamophobia and fear mongering of Muslims in America are largely contributing causes to
the creation of barbaric groups such as ISIS. As a result of the tragic events that took place on 9/11,
Islamophobia was born. It has been over a decade and Islamophobia is not only still existent, but it s
unfortunately growing in the heart of the average American more and more each day. For this we can
thank our lovely media. Muslims are being targeted at every corner. In this country, you are taught by
society to fear Islam. You are led to think that it is a violent cult that preaches hate and teaches
violence. The sad part is, whether Islam does any of this is still a question that is being debated. Only
just recently, CNN attacked Reza Aslan during a live interview for not condemning the religion of
Islam and its teachings. When he replied and defended Islam with supporting facts, they attacked him
for being hostile. In this country, you are taught that Muslims hate your great American freedom, even

Literary Analysis Of Johnny Got His Gun
Dalton Trumbo, author of Johnny Got His Gun, is known for his unique style of writing. Many
acclaimed authors of books such as Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice have a formal writing style , on
the other hand, Trumbo s is informal. It consists of short sentences and punctuation techniques. This
writing style is what sets Trumbo apart from others because this writing style is difficult to execute
and it is hard to apply to other works of literature. His book, Johnny Got His Gun has won the award
for National Award for Most Original Book . This book is about a soldier named Joe who has become
handicapped after a bomb blast and experiences flashbacks which reflect back onto his past and
present time. The authors style of writing affects the way a reader interprets the story through the use
of literary elements and literary devices. Fine
Three elements that define an author s style of writing include diction (the word choice), syntax
(sentence analysis), and figurative language (language analysis). An example of diction arises from the
main character, Joe, contemplating what they fight for in the war. The quote, Pay no attention when
they tap you on the shoulder and say come along we ve got to fight for liberty or whatever their word
is there s always a word, ( Trumbo, 118) displays Joe s frustration with the war. The word choices of

honest way. Based on his works, Trumbo

The importance of reading Oscar Wilde
Oscar Fingal O Flaherty Wills Wilde was an Irish playwright, novelist, essayist and poet. And
everything else can find in a book or online, I am not going to do that today, I am sure you are not
interested in the regurgitation of Oscar Wilde facts. I am sure that you know most of what is written
there better than the people that wrote those facts on Wikipedia any way. I am not going to talk about
the importance of being earnest in any way shape or form, trust me for I am in the gutter looking up at

This is the biggest thing II have learned not only from the plays I have read but from this entire
English class. We learn things on a parallel level with plays on one hand we learn what the play is
telling us from the dialogue the actors say. But on the other hand, we learn what the playwright was
trying to tell us. And in Oscar Wilde play the important of being earnest, there s a lesson in the story
about lying well just get you all tied up and in a bigger and deeper situation that you started, but it also
does this by poking fun and all the high and mighty aristocrats of the Victorian era. It was Saturday

Fate Of William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Fate in Romeo and Juliet In modern times, and in the Elizabethan era, fate plays an important role in
people s lives. Many people believe it to be written in stone, and unchangeable. Many others believe it
to be controlled by a person s own actions. In Romeo and Juliet, fate is one of the main themes,
described as having power over many of the events in the play. Fate is often called upon, wondered
about, and blamed for mishaps. However, where fate is blamed in the play as the ultimate cause for a
mishap, there is always an underlying action, or combination of them, on the part of human beings
that decides the consequences. Human weakness, the loss of self control, is always the direct cause of
a bad choice or mishap, and not fate itself. One of the most noted instances where fate is blamed for a
mishap is when Romeo cries out the he supposedly is fortune s fool. He claims that fate has brought
on Mercutio s death, and has lead him to kill Tybalt in revenge. In Act 3, Scene 1 of Romeo and Juliet,
Romeo is seen to be upset at Mercutio s death and predicts that the days black fate on more days doth
depend. (III, I, 118) Tybalt then re enters and Romeo becomes more upset that Tybalt is triumphant
with Mercutio being dead (III, I, 121). As Romeo becomes overwhelmed with Mercutio s death and
Tybalt s joy over it, he suddenly declares that either he or Tybalt must die with Mercutio (III, I, 128).

Genetic Interventions And The Ethics Of Enhancement Of...
When you look at society today, it is plausible to say half of the population is affected by cancer or
disease. Now based on the millions of people on this earth, this assumption is not one to be proud of.
Day by day and year by year medical advancements have been in affect and so far helping decrease
the number of deadly cases of disease. Recently researchers have made a major breakthrough in the
field of medicine. Technology has become so advanced that physicians are able to detect disease
present in genes inside a fetus before it is completely developed. Because they are now able to identify
the gene, it brings up a whole new topic of altering specific genes upon our children to physically
enhance them. In most cases, parents would choose to enhance these genes to have athletic or
musically talented child. Now whether you think this is ethical or not is up to you however, I will be
evaluating three articles on this topic and presenting the argument for each one. Julian Savulescu
wrote Genetic Interventions and the Ethics of Enhancement of Human Beings and in this article he
clearly states his position on the issues as well as providing supporting and opposing sides to the
matter. He starts off by explaining this issue is focused on biological enhancement and more
specifically genetic enhancement. Then the thesis statement is provided, I want to argue that, far from
it s being merely permissible, we have a moral obligation or moral reason to enhance ourselves and

The Uses Of Tube Feeding
The use of tube feeding is done when a patient is no longer or unable to feed themselves orally. When
tube feeding is required for just a short period of time an enteral tube feeding can be placed nasally.
Incidences that require NG tube feeding would be prolonged bleeding, facial trauma, upper GI
blockage and cancer. The NG tube catheter tip normally resides inside the stomach or in the small
intestine past the pylorus. The number one complication involved with the use of NG tubal feeding is
incorrect placement. A nurse can inadvertently place an NG catheter into the lungs, most notably when
a patient has little to no gag reflex. As a result testing for gastric contents, pH or performing a chest x
ray are required once an NG tube has been inserted. Another major complication when using NG tubal
feeding is aspiration within the lungs due to gastric contents enter the trachea and into the bronchial
spaces of the lungs. Keeping the head of the bed elevated greater than 30 degrees will reduce
aspiration at minimum . The use of a gastrostomy or jejunostomy tube can used for enteral feedings
when an NG tube cannot be tolerated of interferes with therapy. The gastrostomy tube, PEG, tip is
placed in the stomach and exits the body through the left upper quadrant of the abdomen where a
bumper holds it into location. This can only be placed internally by a doctor during an endoscopy,
radiology or surgery. A jejunostomy tube can be placed while in surgery, radiology

personal diary during her miserable freshman year of high school. Instead of blending in and finding

moved to town. Heather has no idea what happened the night when Melinda called the police, which
busted a summer party. In fact, no one knows, except for Melinda, what happened to her at the party?
She is convinced that because she is a victim, no one understands her. The whole world, including her
world, is out to get her and so it is best for her to remain silent. Ironically, the person Melinda finds as
the outlet to help her express her feelings is her art teacher, Mr. Freeman. In a class assignment,
Melinda is assigned to create an art project based on a tree. She begins to express her inner angst
through this art project. At one point, she uses dried bones to sculpt a picture of a skeleton. Then she
glues broken knives and forks to the project so that the bones look like the plastic utensils are stabbing
them. It is a grim depiction of how Melinda feels, and is immediately praised by Mr. Freeman.

The Effects of Exercise on Mental Health Essay
Some hypothesize that moderate levels of exercise will decrease the symptoms of mental health

Depression Inventory [CDI] (Kovacs, 1992) (Diaz Motta, 2008). Libby, Pilver Desai (2012) also
conducted a study looking at PTSD but focused their attention on a global effect of complementary
and alternative medicine (CAM) on the mental health issue. The researchers finalized 599 participants
whose information was gathered through the following instruments: (a) National Comorbidity Survey

The Greek Of Greek Tragedy
Luke Allis, Greek Theatre
Ancient Greek tragedy is still relevant today because the themes and issues expressed within it are still
present in the 21st century such as undeserved suffering, death and relationships. The greeks produced
many great works of art and theatre as well as revolutionising politics, ethics, aesthetics and
philosophy with philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle and their theories such as their theories on
form and Catharsis.
Many people suggest that modern day theatre and performance is derived directly from Ancient Greek
Theatre and Myths. Just life we do with politics, ethics, aesthetics and philosophy look to the greeks
as the founders and while it is possible that this is true this itself is also a myth. The ancient greek
empire ended almost 150 years BC, about 2066 years ago. In that time a lot of information regarding it
and it s theatre has been lost or distorted (such as the destruction of The Library Of Alexandria) and
thus we can t be certain that the information is 100% correct which means that this itself is a myth, we
have evidence that points towards theatre originating from Ancient Greece but we can t be certain
because there is also evidence pointing toward it originating from various other cultures from around
the world such as the Egyptian Coronation Festival Play 3100 BC (History of theatre timeline,
Glencoe.com) or primitive tribal dances and religious rituals dating even earlier than that.

Mummification throughout the World
Mummies of humans and animals have been found throughout the world. The most well known
culture for preserving the dead with mummification were the ancient Egyptians. Although
mummification existed before the Egyptians with mummies from northern Chile, the Egyptians were
focused on the prospect of eternal life, which meant preserving the body for life. The earliest process
of mummification took place as early as 3000 BC. Special priests worked as embalmers, caring for
and wrapping the body. Beyond knowing the correct rituals and prayers to be performed at various
stages, the priests also needed a detailed knowledge of human anatomy. The first step in the process
was to remove all internal parts that might decay quickly. The brain was removed by carefully
inserting special hooked instruments up through the nostrils in order to pull out bits of brain tissue. It
was a hard job, one which a wrong move could easily disfigure the face. The priest then removed the
organs of the gut and chest through a cut usually made on the left side of the abdomen, (except the
heart) and stored in canopic jars. The skulls of the dead would then be filled with a thick plant paste. It
wasn t until the Middle Kingdom(2050 BC and 1652 BC) that the process began to take on a more
advanced form. After removing organs and the brain ,the caretakers would use natural salts to remove
moisture from the bodies of the dead, drying out flesh and bone. The emptied bodies were then

that the british would have officers go into homes without permission, which was invading privacy.
Admittedly, there are some who believe that the sons of liberty were terrorist or fanatics. The reason
why some people believe this is because the sons of liberty did some stuff back then that would not be
acceptable such as, incited riots, the tea party, tarring and feathering tax collectors, taking furniture

Why Are Teens Like Dystopian Stories
Wonder why teens like dystopian stories, maybe its because of how much they relate to the people in

No Child Left Behind Was An Act Of Congress Proposed By...
No Child Left Behind was an act of Congress proposed by President Bush January 23, 2001. The bill
was coauthored by the following representatives: John Boehner (R OH), George Miller (D CA), and
Senators Edward Kennedy (D MA) and Judd Gregg (R NH). The purpose of this bill was to
reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act which included Title 1, a program for
disadvantaged youth. To receive federal funding schools must measure students using standardized
assessments in particular grades. Each state has developed its own standard for how a student must
perform on a given assessment. Before No Child Left Behind states took in billions of dollars for
educational funding and were not held accountable for the funds allocated to them.
Disadvantaged youth were written off as unable to be taught and they were pushed through the system
receiving little to no education. Parents were denied the ability to know if their students were
receiving quality education. Some speculate people against educational reform have incorrectly
claimed that NCLB is an unfunded mandate. Brian Riedl of the Heritage Foundation noted, NCLB is
neither unfunded nor a mandate. States are not obligated to accept funds in federal education aid
NCLB offers. If a state wishes to not be held accountable for improving student achievement, or that
prefer to do things a different way, they can simply decline the money.

Various novels can be classified as coming of age texts, this means that these are stories about a
protagonist s transition from childhood to adulthood or just growing up even as an adult. These novels

One of these conflicting beings included Abbé Sieyès, a man who claimed the authority of changing
the calendar was not in anyone s hands at the time. In 1793, he directly responded to the Committee of
Public Instruction s proposal for the calendar change by attempting to persuade them to reject the
calendar since it was extremely conflicting in accordance to the past and neighboring nations.
Moreover, Sieyès informed the Committee that it was not their nor any other person s authority to alter
the long standing calendar. In 1794 from the town of Étampes, a concerned peasant wrote a letter
bringing forth similar troubles in regards to Sieyès. The countryman provided evidence that nine days

Chapter 2: Social Darwinism is an article that is trying to explain the reason and thought of why the
European settlers behaved the way they did. The Europeans traveled to South Africa in the 17th and
18th century. Back then they were known as the Afrikaners . Anglo Boer War happened because of the
damage and the suffering the Europeans caused due to their arrogance. British Jingoism became the
reason why Social Darwinism and the Anglo Boer war happened. The British already had their mind
set that they were the winning team in this competition between the races. They already knew they
were going to the ones that would conquer all and take power over the nations with fewer resources.

  • 3. Shaping A Christian Worldview Essay One of the ongoing struggles for the church and Christianity is with culture. Questions have always surfaced about where we should stand on issues or whether it is permissible to isolate ourselves in all areas of life. Shaping A Christian Worldview suggests that hiding is not the preferred option, rather it is our duty to transform our modern culture. To do this we must be closely positioned with Scripture. Accomplishing this keeps the Christian grounded and does not give secular culture undue stature. Jesus taught that the salt of believers transformed by the gospel would alter the world. This idea means that contemporary Christians must be discerners of truth in our time. Since, the process of transforming culture requires that we know what needs to be changed and what does not. God has entrusted us with duty to help transform under the comprehension of Biblical claims. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The textbook rightly points out the secularism and pluralism dominates many aspects of this worldly culture. This has been reflected in many different ways. Much of America has lost belief in a divine creator, which has moved us down a path of no foundation for order. Other times of weather that can occur in some areas are flooded because of excess precipitation. Excess precipitation can be a bad thing because flooding is destroying a lot of things, for example military bases near the coast. Not all children have parents who know all the right information to tell them, the right answers to their questions, or maybe they just do not care to further explain to them what it is all about. Individuals construct their own conceptions of what is normal and acceptable. These conceptions, what Cicourel (1968) calls background expectancies govern all social interaction (Berns, 2001). With the norms that society creates being the main control of interaction amongst society, it is clear that by allowing the perspective of intimate partner violence as normal will create unawareness about the issue and may perpetuate further issues. Women who have respect and power outside the home through community activities, including participation in microcredit schemes, are less likely to be abused than those who do not (Jewkes, 2002). ... Islamic Teachings And Principles Of Isis Humom Asamarai Eng 1021.32 Final Draft 3 Poindexter Inevitable Blowback Many claim that ISIS has been created as a result of Islamic teachings and principles. This is false. Islam has existed for over 1,400 years. If the above claim had an ounce of truth to it, ISIS would have emerged long ago. Constant instability in the Middle East and the struggle for political power in the region are some, but not all of the reasons for ISIS existence. State sponsored Islamophobia and fear mongering of Muslims in America are largely contributing causes to the creation of barbaric groups such as ISIS. As a result of the tragic events that took place on 9/11, Islamophobia was born. It has been over a decade and Islamophobia is not only still existent, but it s unfortunately growing in the heart of the average American more and more each day. For this we can thank our lovely media. Muslims are being targeted at every corner. In this country, you are taught by society to fear Islam. You are led to think that it is a violent cult that preaches hate and teaches violence. The sad part is, whether Islam does any of this is still a question that is being debated. Only just recently, CNN attacked Reza Aslan during a live interview for not condemning the religion of Islam and its teachings. When he replied and defended Islam with supporting facts, they attacked him for being hostile. Many acclaimed authors of books such as Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice have a formal writing style , on the other hand, Trumbo s is informal. It consists of short sentences and punctuation techniques. This writing style is what sets Trumbo apart from others because this writing style is difficult to execute and it is hard to apply to other works of literature. His book, Johnny Got His Gun has won the award for National Award for Most Original Book . This book is about a soldier named Joe who has become handicapped after a bomb blast and experiences flashbacks which reflect back onto his past and present time. The authors style of writing affects the way a reader interprets the story through the use of literary elements and literary devices. Fine Three elements that define an author s style of writing include diction (the word choice), syntax (sentence analysis), and figurative language (language analysis). An example of diction arises from the main character, Joe, contemplating what they fight for in the war. The quote, Pay no attention when they tap you on the shoulder and say come along we ve got to fight for liberty or whatever their word is there s always a word, ( Trumbo, 118) displays Joe s frustration with the war. • 24. Fate Of William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Fate in Romeo and Juliet In modern times, and in the Elizabethan era, fate plays an important role in people s lives. Many people believe it to be written in stone, and unchangeable. Many others believe it to be controlled by a person s own actions. In Romeo and Juliet, fate is one of the main themes, described as having power over many of the events in the play. Fate is often called upon, wondered about, and blamed for mishaps. However, where fate is blamed in the play as the ultimate cause for a mishap, there is always an underlying action, or combination of them, on the part of human beings that decides the consequences. Human weakness, the loss of self control, is always the direct cause of a bad choice or mishap, and not fate itself. One of the most noted instances where fate is blamed for a mishap is when Romeo cries out the he supposedly is fortune s fool. He claims that fate has brought on Mercutio s death, and has lead him to kill Tybalt in revenge. In Act 3, Scene 1 of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is seen to be upset at Mercutio s death and predicts that the days black fate on more days doth depend. (III, I, 118) Tybalt then re enters and Romeo becomes more upset that Tybalt is triumphant with Mercutio being dead (III, I, 121). As Romeo becomes overwhelmed with Mercutio s death and Tybalt s joy over it, he suddenly declares that either he or Tybalt must die with Mercutio (III, I, 128). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Day by day and year by year medical advancements have been in affect and so far helping decrease the number of deadly cases of disease. Recently researchers have made a major breakthrough in the field of medicine. Technology has become so advanced that physicians are able to detect disease present in genes inside a fetus before it is completely developed. Because they are now able to identify the gene, it brings up a whole new topic of altering specific genes upon our children to physically enhance them. In most cases, parents would choose to enhance these genes to have athletic or musically talented child. Now whether you think this is ethical or not is up to you however, I will be evaluating three articles on this topic and presenting the argument for each one. Julian Savulescu wrote Genetic Interventions and the Ethics of Enhancement of Human Beings and in this article he clearly states his position on the issues as well as providing supporting and opposing sides to the matter. He starts off by explaining this issue is focused on biological enhancement and more specifically genetic enhancement. • 27. The Uses Of Tube Feeding The use of tube feeding is done when a patient is no longer or unable to feed themselves orally. When tube feeding is required for just a short period of time an enteral tube feeding can be placed nasally. Incidences that require NG tube feeding would be prolonged bleeding, facial trauma, upper GI blockage and cancer. The NG tube catheter tip normally resides inside the stomach or in the small intestine past the pylorus. The number one complication involved with the use of NG tubal feeding is incorrect placement. A nurse can inadvertently place an NG catheter into the lungs, most notably when a patient has little to no gag reflex. As a result testing for gastric contents, pH or performing a chest x ray are required once an NG tube has been inserted. Another major complication when using NG tubal feeding is aspiration within the lungs due to gastric contents enter the trachea and into the bronchial spaces of the lungs. Keeping the head of the bed elevated greater than 30 degrees will reduce aspiration at minimum . The use of a gastrostomy or jejunostomy tube can used for enteral feedings when an NG tube cannot be tolerated of interferes with therapy. The gastrostomy tube, PEG, tip is placed in the stomach and exits the body through the left upper quadrant of the abdomen where a bumper holds it into location. The Greek Of Greek Tragedy Luke Allis, Greek Theatre Ancient Greek tragedy is still relevant today because the themes and issues expressed within it are still present in the 21st century such as undeserved suffering, death and relationships. The greeks produced many great works of art and theatre as well as revolutionising politics, ethics, aesthetics and philosophy with philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle and their theories such as their theories on form and Catharsis. The most well known culture for preserving the dead with mummification were the ancient Egyptians. Although mummification existed before the Egyptians with mummies from northern Chile, the Egyptians were focused on the prospect of eternal life, which meant preserving the body for life. The earliest process of mummification took place as early as 3000 BC. Special priests worked as embalmers, caring for and wrapping the body. Beyond knowing the correct rituals and prayers to be performed at various stages, the priests also needed a detailed knowledge of human anatomy. The first step in the process was to remove all internal parts that might decay quickly. The brain was removed by carefully inserting special hooked instruments up through the nostrils in order to pull out bits of brain tissue. It was a hard job, one which a wrong move could easily disfigure the face. The priest then removed the organs of the gut and chest through a cut usually made on the left side of the abdomen, (except the heart) and stored in canopic jars. The skulls of the dead would then be filled with a thick plant paste. It wasn t until the Middle Kingdom(2050 BC and 1652 BC) that the process began to take on a more advanced form. After removing organs and the brain ,the caretakers would use natural salts to remove moisture from the bodies of the dead, drying out flesh and bone. The emptied bodies were then covered in salt to ... The bill was coauthored by the following representatives: John Boehner (R OH), George Miller (D CA), and Senators Edward Kennedy (D MA) and Judd Gregg (R NH). The purpose of this bill was to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act which included Title 1, a program for disadvantaged youth. To receive federal funding schools must measure students using standardized assessments in particular grades. Each state has developed its own standard for how a student must perform on a given assessment. Before No Child Left Behind states took in billions of dollars for educational funding and were not held accountable for the funds allocated to them. Disadvantaged youth were written off as unable to be taught and they were pushed through the system receiving little to no education.
