The document outlines a proposed project to design a new social media mobile application called Bubbble. The app aims to combine existing social media features like sharing updates and music discovery with friends in a single platform. The designer will conduct user research through interviews and surveys to understand needs and define personas. Prototypes and wireframes will then be created applying UX best practices. The 5 week project timeline details the research, design, and testing process. Questions address reinventing social networks, conducting initial user interviews, and using third-party images and logos in personal projects.

2. BIO
• To create a new future in social networking through a mobile
application.
• Build a brand identity for a new product design.
• Apply best UI/UX practices along the way.
• Create a viable interactive mockup.
Hey there I’m Carolyne! I am a UI/UX &
Graphic Designer based in San Diego,
California. I create a wide variety of
designs from logos and flyers, to web and
mobile interfaces. I incorporate UX
practices in my work through journey
mapping, building personas and user
research.
GOALS FOR THIS PROJECT:
3. CONCEPT
The mobile application I will be creating is a social
networking space where friends can get together,
share music, photos and updates all in one
platform. The app will combine the uses that social
media already has, but will have additional features
under one roof.
What makes Bubbble different, is that you will be
able to grow your Bubbble (or keep it close-knit).
The Bubbble will be a place where you can engage
with friends for virtual meetups, concerts, share
status updates or post to your Bubbble feed.
Topics that will need to be researched:
• Competitive analysis of current
social/music/meetup applications and their
functionality.
• User research for social media platforms.
(Understanding user pain points and identifying
successful features)
• User Interviews/Surveys.
• Persona building to identify target audiences.
• Journey mapping user tasks.
• Application Mapping
• User Testing
4. PRODUCTION SCOPE
• Competitive Analysis
• Goal Setting
• User Interviews
• User Surveys
• Personas
• User Journeys
• Storyboards
• Application Map
• Sketching
• Wireframes
• Logos
• Prototypes
• Heuristic evaluation
• Usability Testing
• Retrospective Case Study
Here is the break down of deliverables
throughout the duration of this project.
5. PRODUCTION
PIPELINE
• Here is the process I will use. This combines
both UX practices and UI design tasks.
• Project will be managed using Trello to sort
tasks as they are completed.
• Users will have to be discovered and
interviewed, but I will be the sole person
involved in this project.
Tools that will be used:
- Trello (Project Management)
- Sketch App (Diagrams,
Wireframes and Mockups)
- Adobe Illustrator (Logo Design)
- Principle (Prototype
Animations)
6. REQUIRED CAPABILITIES
The required capabilities include:
• Having basic understanding of design software used. (Illustrator, Sketch, Principle)
• Produce and test design deliverables such as interaction flows, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
• Creative curiosity, analytical, & attention to detail.
• Understanding UX principles and best practices.
7. CAPABILITIES
Existing
• I have a good understanding and experience in
the both user research, personas, competitive
analysis and visual design.
• For examples of my work, please visit one of my
mobile app case studies:

Needed
• Additional research methods
• Improvement on user interview question types
• Production of different user storyboards
8. TIMELINE
Week 1: Discover & Research (Research competitors, identify brand goals, user interviews/survey)
Week 2: Define & Deliver (Personas, translate goals to tasks, journey mapping)
Week 3: Design (Create sketches and wireframes)
Week 4: Prototype (Create final mockup and animate interactions.)
Week 5: Deliver & Test: (Heuristic Evaluation, final tests, finalize case study on blog.)
Project duration 5 weeks
9. RESEARCH
• The areas of research include UX strategy which focuses on business goals and starts before the design
or development of a digital product. This goes over the vision of business objectives and bridges the
gap between business, product and it’s features.
• The second area will be in UX research that consists of user Interviews, surveys, building personas,
creating journey maps and understanding competitors to evaluate what will be needed in the
application.
10. QUESTIONS
• The intent of this project to create a new application that combines features of pre-existing social media
applications to transition to a new ”future” of how we communicate. It will also have new features not
seen in combination within an application before. What ways can I “re-invent” a social network to have
my users convert to this app? (I want to keep the same features in other apps since I don’t want it
drastically different that what users are used to …for example how users transitioned from Myspace to
Facebook. I essentially want to create the same phenomenon with my product.)
• In terms of user research, what would be the best way to go about interviewing people without a
product to test initially? What questions should I ask and to whom?
• General question: How do designers making concept case studies, go about using images of musicians,
album art and logos? (Like Youtube and Spotify) Should I be crediting this in my work even though it is
consider a class/personal project? ( For more context: I see plenty of redesigns in portfolios that are
from other companies using their logos and design systems. If these are personal projects, are we okay
to use their names, logos etc…?)
