WHITE WASH AND COLOUR WASH
WHITE WASHING
Scaffolding
 It shall be erected on double
supports tied together by
horizontal pieces over which
scaffolding shall be fixed.
Scaffolding shall rest on the
surface which is been white
washed.
 Scaffolding should be sound
and strong.
 For ceiling proper stage
scaffolding shall Be erected.
Preparation of surface
Then surface shall be thoroughly brushed
free from mortar droppings and foreign
material.
In case of old surface the surface should be
thoroughly scraped of and holes in plaster
shall be filled up with mortar.
The surface shall then be allowed to dry for
at least 48hrs before white washing is done.
PREPARATION OF LIME WASH
The lime wash shall be prepared from fresh white lime
stone the lime shall be thoroughly slaked ,mixed, stirred
with sufficient water to make a thin cream.
Now shall be allowed to stand for 24hrs then shall be
screened through a clean course cloth.
40 gram of gum dissolved in hot water, shall be added
to each 10 cubic decimeters of the cream.
Approx quantity: 5:1 where 5 is water 1 is for 1kg of
lime.
Indigo up to 3gm per kg of lime is dissolved in water
and stirred well. Water shall then be added at a rate of
about 5 liters/kg of lime.

APPLICATION
 White wash shall be applied with moonj brushes.
 The operation for each coat shall consist of stroke
given from top downwards and other from bottom
upwards over the first stroke and similarly one
stroke horizontally from right and another from the
left before it dries.
 for new work 3 or more coats shall be applied till
the surface presents a smooth and uniform finish.
 For old work single coat or 2 or more coats shall
be applied.
COLOUR WASH
 The mineral colors shall be added to white wash.
 No color wash shall be done un till a sample of color
wash of the required tint or shade has been got
approved from the interior in charge.
 Color shall be even over the whole surface.
 For new work 2 or more coats: smooth surface
 For old work: repairing of surface: two or more coat
surface shall present a uniform finish.
 For new work the priming coat shall be of white wash
 The rate shall be for a unit of 1 sq.m
