Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa! By Emma Dearden
Richard Dyer… Richard Dyer believes that the term ‘star’ refers to the semi-mythological set of meanings constructed around music performers in order to sell the performer to a large and loyal audience
Institutional context of the band… The recording label that our group would be signed by would be XL recordings. Other acts also signed by XL recordings: -Bassment jaxx -Jack penate -Friendly fires -Dizzee rascal Alot of their marketing is extremely bright and Arty so we followed these themes when we created our final products.
Target Audience… Would listen to radio stations such as radio 1; they are regular gig attendees, as music would play a huge part in their lifestyles. They would read nme, and be most interested in programmes on channel 4 as they are more cutting edge and original, like never mind the buzz cocks. They would shop in places such as oxford street Camden and Portobello road. They would attend college or school with high prospects and an enjoyment for life.
Qualities that we want to promote of our bands star image… -The qualities that our band have employed that we are very keen to promote are: - Youthfulness : by casting a young looking 17 year old boy we hoped to create a sense of youthfulness. As the band were playing around with paints and painting themselves, they appear quite childish and young, enjoying themselves.
Sexual magnetism : by casting 4 attractive members of the band and using mild nudity they emit a lot of sexual magnetism. This is good as it will attract a heterosexual audience as ‘sex sells’ however they do it in a playful manner so that they still appear to be an organic band.
Them being an organic band , found through gig’s. They have genuine talent! We had them playing their own instruments to portray to our audience that they know what they are doing and they can make their own music.
Quirkiness : most of the band members were cast as they had a quirky nature in their looks and personality. This is very effective as the music that they play and the audience that they appeal to would be fun loving and a little bit different.
They don’t take themselves too seriously which is good in reinforcing their fun nature, who promote drugs or the typical rock ‘n’ roll life style .
How our combination of Products work together… They each share the same imagery and themes, Art. Reflecting a holistic feel, you would be instantly aware if you had seen the poster and then seeing the album that they were related. A buyer would instantly be able to find what they were looking for. The video is promoting a song which will be on the album which is being promoted by the Posters. Each of them are working together to promote the band, and their new up coming album.
