2. INTRODUCTION
Child marriage is any marriage, carried out below
the age of 18 years, before the girls is not
physically and psychologically ready to shoulder
the responsibilities of marriage and child bearing.
4. IMPACT OF CHILD MARRIAGE
Education:- The young bride is only able to study as
much as her husband has. They often lack familial
support to continue their education.
Responsibilities:- The impact of child marriage can
be life changing for children, especially girls. The
household responsibilities fall on the children. They
are not mentor or physically ready for it, yet it falls
on them. While people expect the minor boys to
bear the financial responsibilities , the girls are
expected to look after the house and family. Their
freedom to learn and play is taken away.
5. Health :- Forced sexual encounters lead to
irreversible physical damage.
The girls are three times more likely to
experience marital rape.
Girls below 15 are five times more likely to die
during child birth than those in the 20's.
The infant mortality rate is very high.
Young brides face a higher risk of contracting
HIV and STD.
Some of the young brides are sexually exploited
by other men in the family and they are too
scared to go out and complain.
The inability of a woman to negotiate
contraception use is a major issues.

Worldwide, more than 700 million women alive
in 2014 were married before their 18th
birthday.
Child marriage among girls is most common in
South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.
One third of the girls in developing countries
are married before the age of 18,while about
one in nine are married before attaining age 15.
8. SITUATION AT THE NATIONAL
LEVEL
India has the highest percentage of child
brides in the world. About 47% of the girls get
married before reaching the age of 18.
2011 census data showed that 91% of all
women were married by 25 years of age with
an alarming rate of 30.2% girls who were
married before the age of 18.
9. COMPARISION WITH THE OTHER
COUNTRIES
Niger has the highest Child marriage rate in
the world 2021.
In the west African country 75% of girls aged
under 18 were married, with 36% of them
being younger than 15 years old.

In many of these
countries, the legal age to
get married is lower for
females than for males.
In Niger and Chad, for
instance, the legal age is
15years for females and
18 for males.
In Guinea, instead, the
legal age for marriage is
17 for females and 18 for
males. However, child
marriage rates are

These actions against child marriage .
Ending child marriage is not a small tasks, but many
small action can create big change. We don’t have to
stand by and accept practices that hurt children and
communities –instead, here are some actions we can
all take as a volunteer :-
Report any child marriage happening around us to
the proper authorities.
Educate our friends ,family and community about
why child marriage is harmful.
Promise to never be a part of any events that
promotes child marriage.
