THE PROHIBITION OF CHILD MARRIAGE ACT
ON : 2006
 It came into effect on 1 NOVEMBER 2007
to
address and fix the short coming of
the
child marriage restraint act .
 Boys and girls forced into child marriages
as
minor have the option of avoiding their
why does it happen ?

 Simply because it has happened
for generation
 straying from tradition could
mean exclusive from

 Girls are not valued as much as
boy’s They are seen as a
burden

 Giving daughter in marriage allows
the family to reduce on their daughter
expenses
 They often have to pay less money if
the bride is young and un educated
SECURITY
 To ensure her safety in area where girls
are at high risks of physical or sexual
assault

• 250 million girls were
Married before they
turned 15
• In 2010 , 70 million
young girls between
20-24 were married
before they turned 18
• 156 million men alive

they turned 18
• 33 million men alive

they turned 15

 Supporting young people to become
Activists for change
 Mobilizing and educating
communities
 Bringing men and traditional
leaders on board
 Raising awareness in the
media
 marrying before 18 should be
considered as child marriage
