Ben Moy s The Attraction Of Men And Women
The Attraction of Men and Women All animals including humans have the ability to be sexually
attractive. This is called sex appeal, the potential to interest or excite others by appearance, style,
or charm. Sexual attraction is used for finding a potential mate. In the book, The Real Science of
Sex Appeal, the team from HowStuffWorks.com claims that since puberty we have tried to present
ourselves as attractive as possible to find the perfect mate. Humans attempt to make themselves
more appealing by using the rudimentary skills of staying in shape, dressing well, and smelling
decent. But being sexually attractive has a great deal more to it than just those few things. Studies
have shown that sex appeal is biologically programmed into humans brains. Some senses play an
immense role in sex appeal. The olfaction sense the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cara Di Yanni a psychologyprofessor from Rider University believes that attraction can be based
off more than just genetics. In Ben Moy s article, The science of sex appeal; The ideal man and
woman, Di Yanni agreed that, We are biologically predisposed to find certain aspects of humans
to be attractive, and others are most definitely learned. She gives examples of how men find that
women with long hair, large breasts, a healthy weight, and an hour glass shape. These all indicate
fertility and the capability to give birth. Women tend to be enticed by men with money, and this can
explain why women seem picky. When it comes to women dating they calculate everything about
men including their money. Unlike men, having sex can be pricier for women because they may
end up pregnant and must carry a child for nine months, and care for it years after birth. Women
wanting men with money dates back to caveman times. Back then women would typically want to
marry a man with high rank or the best hunter. They wanted someone who could best provide for
the family and bring home

Essential Barbershop intends on addressing those necessities so that our customer s needs are met.
пѓ Economical Prices We offer the cheapest haircuts within our 5 mile radius because
customers are always looking for ways to save money on items. An average haircut in America is
somewhat pricy at $28. Our prices are almost half of the national average and will be appealing to
the surrounding customers. The estimated annual household income for the area around the
barbershop is $52K with half of that population being married couples with dual income. Our
prices help them save money while catering to the need of haircuts. The lower prices also help
establish a customer base and as a start up business it helps build customer capital.
пѓ Professional Services Our barbers are trained, certified professionals and understand that their
appearance, attitude, and work should be nothing less than professional at all times. A common
assumption of lower priced items is a loss of quality and we aim to prove that opinion doesn t apply

Libertarianism Persuasive Speech
Four hours into my first Libertarian National Convention I wandered into a crowded hotel suite
filled with sweaty young men drinking Carlo Rossi and found myself face to face with John
McAfee, internet pioneer, Libertarian candidate for president and former international fugitive. One
thing led to another, and soon I was asking him a rather direct question: Had he killed a man?
It wasn t something I d expected to address, not least because political journalists are often
resigned to the fact that their access to a candidate will be restricted by any number of
communications aides, but Libertarians have no such norms. As Starchild a San Francisco based
activist and erotic services provider, dressed one day in a Speedo and a see through raincoat ... Show

I think 30 million people here are up for grabs that are probably Libertarian; it s that they just don t

In other words, Gary Johnson is looking to make libertarianism normal. In the year of Trump,
Bernie Sanders and flipping the system the bird, he might just have a shot. Still, it all depends on
how weird Americans are willing to let things get.
Johnson, 63, hasn t even been a Libertarian all that long. He was a Republican when he served as

Peppered Moth Essay
The Peppered Moths Model in NetLogo stimulates a classic example of natural selection that
involves the changes of colors in the peppered moth population of Manchester, England during the
1800s. One important aspect of this model is the plot feature which graphs the number of light,
medium, and dark color moths, and the pollution rate over a period of time. While the monitor
widgets can also track these information at real time, the plot allows us to view past information
that were collected, not just the current data. Another interesting thing about the plot is that it
works by using several pen update commands which execute the global variables (light, medium,
dark color moths, and population) that were already created in the code section... Show more

The setup and go button would help prepare the world with the specific amount of moths, and run
the stimulation respectively. The mutation slider would control the mutation rate of the moths
changing color. A lower mutation rate establish a correlation between the color of the parent moth
and the color of the offspring, whereas a high mutation rate like 100% represent that the color of the
parent moth and the offspring do not necessary have to be related. Moreover, the selection slider
determine the survivability of the moths when it encounter the birds that feed on them. At 0
percent, the ever moth have an equal chance of being devoured, while at 100, the ability of the
moth to camouflage is very important. The pollute and clean up buttons also control the pollution
levels in the environment, much like the cycle pollution? switch, though they allow you to
manually manipulate the pollution levels of the environment in a deliberate way. The speed slider
would control the rate at which the pollution level will change, with 1 being the slowest and 100
being the fastest. Lastly, the monitors would document either the total amount of moths, the
number of moths for each three types of color, the pollution rate, or the time as shown by the
number of

The Importance Of Technology
Technology: A Backstabbing Companion.
Innovations have given us tools to become better and more efficient, but they have also brought an
era of mental decay and insecurity. How can something so important to our development be the
cause of misery and confrontation between individuals. Technology has decreased our ability to
communicate properly with others, this is due to our inability to differentiate online interactions
from real life occurrences. It is important for all of us living in this revolutionary world to asses our
relationship with technology.
The effects of social media and the constant interaction with technology makes us vulnerable to
distractions that can cause us to lose focus and by consequence deliver poor quality work. The
constant pressure that comes from notifications and messages is detrimental for our mental health.
The best example of this affects our bodies is shown when our bodies start to produce chemicals
such as dopamine and get adrenaline pumping, these two processes make our body stop all ongoing
functions, looses concentration and struggles to regain the level of concentration it was on for a
considerable amount of time. (Take Back Your Life.)
The changes technology has brought are most likely far superior to what older historians and
scientists would have imagined, technology has created a concept that in hindsight could have been
frowned upon in past centuries. It has given humans the ability to replace common and key
activities with

Man Is Not An Individual
Man is not an individual. He is a social organism. God loves him only who serves other beings
man, cattle and other creatures. His glory lies in being a member of a big family. On the one
hand, man is bound by blood kinship his parents, his wife , his children and on the other , he is
linked with every individual of society whether near or far from his, it is given to man to link
himself with those who constitute his ancestry and also think of those who would be his posterity.
Man possessed of certain inalienable rights. Thus lives, works and dies for society. Man is expected
to develop his craft, science and technology and lead society from poverty to prosperity with a
happy today and a happier tomorrow.
Crime is inevitable in human society. No doubt , we have progressed a lot in every sphere of life
and struggle to achieve immortality is going on, but yet in this journey from animal way of life to
the human way of life, still we are haunted by the thought of animal instincts. Every where some
human beings have fallen outside the pattern of permitted conduct. It is best to fact that crime
cannot be abolished except in a non existence utopia. Commenting on this aspect Durkherim in his
treatise a crime as a normal phenomenon says, a society composed of persons with angelic
qualities would not be free from violation of the norms of that society . In fact, crime is a constant
phenomenon changing with the social change.

Scarlet Letter Women
Mankind creates prejudice against itself through a history of tradition and false beliefs. In turn,
women face the brunt of such aggression and ideology. Arising from the idea of original sin, in
which Eve led Adam to their fall, mankind devolves women into characters of temptation and
seduction, effectively ostracizing and placing the blame on the female gender. In the 19th century
romantic novel, The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorneexamines the effect of the sin and lust on
the identity of women and aims to inspire his audience to challenge the ideas of sin in current
society in order to eliminate gender discrimination and create a world of equality. When an
individual commits an act of sin, the very act leaves its mark on the individual... Show more content

Hawthorne uses his character to show the need for women to stand up against such a system.
Hawthorne builds Hester as a character unimpaired by the misogyny of her society and instead
focuses on her identity as a caring saint and a protective mother. Just as Hester disregard the
harsh words of the people around her, women must do the same and focus on their own identity
in order to truly gain their independence. Instead of society holding women to a standard and
identity establish by it, women must release themselves from their chains and focus on
discovering the very essence of their identity and establish their own selves. Furthermore,
Hawthorne builds his characters as defiant to the very idea of sin itself. Hester embellishes the
scarlet letter and openly displays it to the public (add quote). Hawthorne reveals the need for
women to challenge society s idea of sin. Society passes judgment upon those who violates its
code of conduct. However, the very act itself leads to contradiction and hypocrisy. Society
punishes itself in an attempt to correct and justify themselves in the eye of god. Women must
realize the fatal flaws of such beliefs and not allow society to drag them down into a cesspool of
guilt and repentance. For if women allows sin to dominate their lives, they subject themselves to a
life of loneliness, despair, and constant attacks on their conscience. Hawthorne wishes for women
to accept their sins and in turn uses it as a weapon against the discrimination of society. The
acceptance of sin takes away its power to control and dominates the women s life. By openly
revealing the sin to society, women can take back their identities and limit society in its ability to
hurt them. Furthermore, instead of shying away from the harsh treatment of society, women needs
to resist and confront such oppression. By speaking out about their

Should Gas Prices Be Raised
If a person was asked a question such as Should taxes be raised? Their answer would most likely be
no way! The reasons why gas prices should not be raised is because if the price is raised then the
poor people will have a harder time paying for their house and bills, and by the way expanding
economy and cheaper oil makes more moneyfor the United States, and last if there is a smaller
price on gas then the demand for it will go down by a lot. First of all, it is very obvious that if
the prices go up for something, then people who do not have as much money are going to
struggle. If the prices go up for gas then the non wealthy people will probably have trouble
finding money to pay for their gas in their cars. Not only will they struggle with paying for their
gas, they will have distress in paying for their house and their bills. Imagine living in a governer
house with a few kids and a wife or a husband. Then all the sudden the gas prices go up about one
dollar! That family would not be happy at those changes. Then if they found out that the
government increased the prices only to reduce consumption, then they would definitely be in
rough scenario. Next, if America expanded their economy then that means more money. When they
say more money for America, then they mean a bunch more for the United States. They say that by

There is the reason that the needy or the non wealthier people in a community usually have a

will not only be better for the poor, but keeping gas prices lower it stimulates economic growth.
People will want to travel more and will want to spend their money on better and more important
things. Last, gas will be more accessible if the cost is declined. Raising the price of gasoline to
decrease consumption is a short term

Henson Park Research Paper
A tough, brutal, finals like contest took place at Henson Park, when the Newtown Jets downed the
North Sydney Bears with an incredible buzzer beating try by Jacob Gagan, to steal the game 16 12.
Josh Cleeland was easily the most dangerous player on the park, but all 34 players on the field

sure to be one of the games of 2016.
The Jets now slide into the top four with one round remaining, while the Bears will sweat on other
results to see if they remain in the top eight before their much anticipated do or die clash with the

extend their lead to 10 4.
Newtown hit back on the hour mark when Josh Cleeland put a grubber down the short side, and
Nielsen spilled the ball while back tracking to retrieve it, and it bounced into the arms of Jacob

The next 10 minutes were incredibly tense, but the second penalty of the half was blown in prime

Jack Siejka collided into the hip Junior Roqica shortly afterwards, and after a long delay, had to be

Organ Donation For Organ Transplants
INTRODUCTION
Organ donation is one of the most pressing health policy issues for our government to deal with and
organ donation rates in England must increase in order to meet the demand for organs on waiting
lists. Furthermore, the demand for surgical procedures such as organ transplantation has rapidly
increased after scientific breakthroughs in transplant technologies as well as the advent of new
medicines to reduce many problems associated with transplants, thereby increasing the life
expectancy of people receiving the transplant.
With more than 7000 to 8000 people on the waiting list in England alone, on the waiting list for an
organ transplant and only an estimated 2,800 organs that are transplanted each year (NHSBT 2016),
there is a significant shortage of organs available for transplant. There is an increasing concern that
the current system for organ donation in England, is failing to meet the demand in organs needed
for transplantation. The number of people needing transplants is going up steadily by about 8
percent each year.(b) The number of premature deaths has also increased to approximately 1000
(Rieu. 2010) every year and this is conceivably the most tragic reminder that the current system is
failing us. To combat this problem, many health researchers have suggested changes to change the
organ donation laws, from informed consent to presumed consent.

Symptoms, Causes, And Treatments Of Schizophrenia
Symptoms, Causes, and Treatments of Schizophrenia
Cassidy Echalico
Florida State College at Jacksonville
Symptoms, Causes, and Treatments of Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is a stigmatized disease that
labels victims as crazy. One percent of people develop schizophrenia in their lifetime; more than two
million Americans suffer from schizophrenia in a given year (Spearing, 1999). Although
schizophrenia affects men and women equally, it often appears earlier in men than in women; Men
are generally affected in the late teens to early twenties and women are generally affected in the
twenties to early thirties (Spearing, 1999). Schizophrenia is highly uncommon in children,
affecting only about 1 in 40,000 in comparison to 1 in 100 in adults. Many of the victims do not
realize they have schizophrenia until they have a first episode psychosis (Aas, Andreassen, Aminoff,
Faerden, Romm, Nesvayeng, Berg, Simonsen, Agartz, and Melle. 2016). While many people only
know the stereotyped effects of schizophrenia, a better understanding of the symptoms, causes, and
possible treatments can clear many stigmas up.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, schizophrenia is a chronic and severe mental
disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves (National Institute of Mental Health,
2016). Symptoms of schizophrenia include positive, negative, and cognitive affluences (National
Institute of Mental Health, 2016). Positive symptoms include behaviors that are not seen in

Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs Essay
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: The Queen, usually known as the Evil Queen or the Wicked
Queen, is the villain in the 1937 Disney animated film. This version of the character was
sometimes referred to as Queen Grimhilde in Disney publications of the 1930s, and was originally
voiced by Lucille La Verne. In the versions of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfsthat have been
sanitized for children, the action of the poem usually seems to concentrate on the possibility of
violence aimed at the innocent young. In those stories, although the reader assumes the queen to
be motivated by her envy of Snow White s youth and beauty, her motives seem to be subsidiary to
the theme of violence itself. In Sexton s version, the queen s pride, which pumped in her like a
poison, is diagnosed directly as motivation. Indeed, Sexton says that before the mirror labels Snow
White as the most beautiful woman in the land, the girl has been no more important to the queen
than a dust mouse under the bed. The mirror s announcement makes the queen suddenly aware of
encroaching age and makes her determined to kill Snow White. At the end, the queen is punished
for her pride by dancing to death in the red hot shoes.
Sexton goes beyond simply making the queen a villain, however. In the poem s second verse
paragraph, Sexton uses the second person you to suggest to the reader that everyone is subject to
the corrupting effects of pride and may be subject to its rewards.

Drug Trafficking In Afghanistan
Within a few weeks after 9/11, the CIA gave millions of dollars to the Northern Alliance to help with
the fight against the Taliban. Obviously, the intelligence community wasn t concerned with drug

done nothing to curb the production of opium. As a result, in 2002, Afghanistans opium production
had returned to a similar level (3,400 tons) before the ban from the Taliban. Afghanistan quickly
regained its monopoly on the world s opium supply, roughly 90% of the world s opium.

Internet Censorship Of China, South Africa And Other...
Internet censorship in China, South Africa and other countries is something that prohibits real
discussion from taking place regarding issues that affect the public. For instance, in China, certain
key word searches are automatically filtered out so that users cannot find the information they are
seeking. While Internetcensorshipmay be good from one perspective (in terms of stemming the flow
of child pornography, curbing false information, or putting a nation s interests first), it can be
viewed as bad from another perspective (in terms of cutting down on the opportunity to inform
sides of a dialogue, promoting free exchange of ideas, or discussing why one form of pornography
is allowed but not another). This paper will show why Internet censorship can be interpreted in
both positive and negative ways depending on the perspective that one adopts (whether one is pro
Statist or anti Statist). In short, pros and cons depend wholly upon one s worldview and outlook.
The first pro may be, as Lorentzen (2014) notes, that a partial censorship strategy is an effective
way for governments to control the levels of discontent in their respective countries (p. 405).
Lorentzen (2014) observes that this is a model that could be applied in China as it attempts to
control its Internet content, though he argues that all nations could utilize it, permitting half of the
discontent to be reported when discontent is high and all of the discontent to be reported when
discontent is

Analysis Of Mcewan s Atonement By Ian Mcewan
When it comes to the personal, uncontrollable misfortunes in life, there seems to be two main
ways to handle it: either ignore it, or face it then and there. Ian McEwan s Atonement is a prime
example of this struggle in dealing with traumatic situations. In Paper One, I stated that McEwan
suggests the best way to deal with life s traumas is to face them head on rather than to completely
ignore them. McEwan shows this through the mistakes Briony makes as her innocence misguides
her into a divided relationship with her sister Cecilia. Similarly, Robbie faces the traumatic war
experiences and separation from Cecilia which puts himself in a tense situation that he cannot
entirely grapple. In both cases, it s apparent that facing traumas head on leads the characters to
reflect upon their choices and overcome weaknesses. However, in Parts Two and Three, Briony s
personal stories, interpretation of events, and reflection of her choices imply something else. I
think it s clear that McEwan ultimately emphasizes that a better way to cope with trauma is to
write about them in the form of stories. Doing so allows one to not only acknowledge the traumas,
but also to move beyond it, control it, and lessen its severity. These beneficial effects can only be
achieved through means of writing stories. Writing stories forces one to acknowledge one s trauma

Kant And Kant s View On Life And Most
If you do what you need ,your surviving. If you do what you want, your living . Philosophers
Mill and Kant both share similarities and differences on their view on life and most of all on the
meaning of a good life. Mill bases morality on the principle of utility which states , that actions or
behaviors are right in so far as they promote happiness or pleasure , wrong as they tend to produce
unhappiness or pain . While Kant bases moralityon the categorical imperativewhich is, an
unconditional moral obligation that is blinding in all circumstances and is not dependent on a
person s inclination or purpose . Mill and Kant both join in their proposed first rule of profound
quality a sort of all inclusiveness, for Kant s situation that of confining one s standards of
activity to people who it can serve to be a widespread law of nature, for Mill s situation
considering the outcomes of a sort of activity for all people. Both perceive transitional good
guidelines , called by Kant obligations and by Mill subordinate standards . Accordingly the 2
philosophers have a 2 step origination of moral thought. A basic level that offered moderate good
standards against the first guideline of profound quality and a performance stage that allows for

The Lovers, Thinkers, And Problem Solvers Of The World
Humans:
The Lovers, Thinkers, and Problem Solvers of the World Throughout the history of mankind we
have constantly asked ourselves what our purpose is and if that purpose has meaning.
Philosophers and religious leaders alike have answered these questions and many other essential
questions that cross through our minds at one point or another. However, we as individuals must
consider the answers proposed by others, and use their ideas as a foundation for the building of
our own. By using the ideas that Dante, Soyinka, Shelly, and Borges propose in their literature I
was able to build a foundation for my own answer to the question of what our purpose is and if
there is any meaning to our lives. I feel that our purpose is too ... Show more content on

While the birth of his son was not conventional either, after his son is released onto the world the
purpose of his life had been fulfilled (Borges, page 6). After the Wizard has created his son his
purpose has been fulfilled. The wizard, like the Creature, like the entire species of man, all have
one purpose in life which is to ensure the continuation of their species. In a world where every
species has the same purpose, what makes our lives meaningful? I find the answer to be faith and
religion. Faith and religion helps us make morally correct choices. When we have faith and
follow a religion we try to have morals and learn things that help us make morally correct
choices. We learn the difference between right and wrong, develop a conscience, and develop
tolerance and respect for the people around us. An example of how a lack of religion and faith
leads to people making morally wrong choices and not being tolerant or respectful for the people
around them, can be seen in Death and the King s Horseman. In this play, the Pilkings have no
religion and have faith in nothing. Because of this they are intolerant of the local s religion. Their
disrespect shows when Amusa, a local who has converted to Christianity, refuses to talk to them

The disease usually affects the elderly, people 65 and older, but 200,000 of the Americans living
with Alzheimer s today are younger than 65. One in ten people over 65 have Alzheimer s,
making this disease common. African Americans are almost twice more likely to develop a
form of dementia than older Caucasians. Hispanics are one and a half times more likely to
develop Alzheimer s disease than Caucasians. Most cases of Alzheimer s are caused from a
mutation in one of the APP, PSEN1, or PSEN2 genes. When one of these three genes are
reformed, a toxic fragment called amyloid beta peptides is created in the brain. The peptide will
then produce clumps in the brain, called amyloid plaques, which is a characteristic of Alzheimer s
disease. An accumulation of toxic amyloid plaques will most likely cause death to the nerve cells
and show symptoms of the disease. This mutation carries on from parent to child, making the
disease hereditary. Researchers say that people with Down syndrome have a high risk of

Denver Race Riot
The Chinese population of the United States used perseverance, resiliency and hard work to prove
that they could succeed in a country that has blatantly discriminated against them and labeled them
as undesirable and ineligible for citizenship.
During the California Gold Rush in the mid 1800s, the United States saw an influx of immigrants
from different parts of the world. The Chinese in particular were desperately trying to escape
deplorable economic conditions in their native country. When the dream of harvesting gold turned
elusive in California, they sought employment doing hard labor in the railroad construction. As
this line of work eventually dried up as well, a few daring Chinese immigrants decided to explore
Colorado in the 1860s. Attracted by the Colorado Gold Rush, they established Denver s
Chinatown. As William Wei writes: The neighborhood was established around 1870 on Wazee
Street between fifteenth and seventeenth Street. This area of town became known by the white
population as Hop Alley, it also became infamous because of the establishment of opium dens,
where there was alleged gambling and prostitution. The claim that these vices were rampant in
Chinatown were grossly exaggerated and it was mostly white patrons who visited the opium dens.
The origin of these claims was due to a campaign aimed at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Critical Success Factors Of A Firm s Performance
Critical success factors are measures of those aspects of a firm s performance that are essential to
its competitive advantage and, therefore, to its success (Blocher, Stout, Juras, Cokins, 2013). One
of the original uses of Critical Success Factors as a concept is by McKinsey and Company in
Boston during the 1950s to determine how a corporation should compete in each of its many
businessunits (Isakson Sircar, 1990). As can be seen by the above quote, for a company in the real
estatebusiness all of these critical success factors are either dependent upon or relate to the
service provided by the firm. If a company is not providing the level or type of service which
consumers are demanding, then none of the critical success factors mentioned above will show a
positive position or future for the company. A generational change in the needs and wants of
consumers in the real estate business has caused the growth of what the traditional service
providers are calling hybrids, such as Redfin, Help A Sell, and Xome, which provide services to
consumers that focus heavily on technological innovation and cutting cost for their customers
(Inman, 2015).
Sales, profitability, and liquidity are the three financial critical success factors. These three do not
require much discussion as they are factors discussed by all when evaluating the current state of any
company in any industry. Without sales and profits a company cannot succeed and with a trend

Review of Research Paper on Creating Home-Made Stem Cells
Our paper discusses an important step in the research surrounding stem cells.
Pluripotent stem cells are found in the early blastocyst, and can differentiate into different cell types
such as neurons, cardiac muscle, or blood cells.
As is explained elsewhere on this paper, stem cells are extremely useful and hold amazing medical
potential, especially to grow specific cells, tissues, and even organs for patients. Controversy mires
the progress of stem cell research from embryos, however, and technical problems exist along with
the ethical ones. Marius Wernig and his team of scientists have had success studying a way to get
around this, however.
What if, instead of taking stem cells from newly created embryos, an ... Show more content on

But how did the experimenters know if the cells that they had created were truly pluripotent
stem cells? What could these cells form? First, a bit of background information must be
included about chimeras. In basic terms, a chimera contains two sets of DNA, both of which
are expressed. Different sections of the chimera s body will be derived from different DNA. A
good example is an individual with eyes of two different colors (one green, one blue, etc).
Chimeras can be formed when two fertilized eggs fuse together at an early stage, or when an
unfertilized egg or extra sperm fuses with a fertilized egg. Now the developing organism contains
two different genetic codes. In most cases, chimeras are completely healthy. There is no worry of
immune rejection, because the cells are joined together far before any immune system exists to
reject either.
Now, back to the paper. How did chimeras help the scientists identify the pluripotent stem cells they
had created? The scientists obtained mouse blastocysts that had certain traits different than those in
the intended pluripotent cells. These blastocysts were injected with the potential induced
pluripotent stem cells, and allowed to develop to birth. All the induced stem cells were designed to
produce Gfp (green fluorescent protein), so if the newly born mice glowed green under ultraviolet
light, then it proved that they indeed

Importance Of Disabilities In The Film Children Of A...
Disabilities are common throughout the world whether it affects one s ability to walk or talk.
Although one may be born disabled, it ll take time for them to adjust to their surroundings. During
their lifetime, many emotions will be shown through words or actions. Seeing humans maneuver
around and communicate, those with disabilities learn; however, they choose to live how they
wish. One may reach out for assistance, while others will ignore the fact that they need help.
However, significant others or friends may try to change one s ways in helping and assisting them
to adjust to the everyday lifestyle. Furthermore, the film Children of a Lesser God demonstrates
how the deaf learn to communicate with the hearing. James Leed, who is a teacher of deaf
students, comes across a deaf co worker, Sarah who becomes his significant otherthroughout the
movie. Although Sarah is incapable of speaking, James communicates with her through signing;
however, a performance by James s deaf students occurs that leaves Sarah storming away in
frustration. James teaches his deaf students at his school how to speak and read lips. Although,
many can follow his techniques, some cannot. Sarah who is his deaf co worker, cleans up
classrooms and other areas. James gains pride and happiness when his students learn and perform
well. However, Sarah seems to disagree. During the film, there is a scene where James s deaf
students perform on parent and family day. They accomplish a task that surprise the

Synoptical Essay On The Gospel Of John
John s Gospel, unlike the Synoptic Gospels focuses more on eye witness events of Jesus life.
John s passage about Jesus washing his disciples feet is one of the many passages where Jesus
teaches his disciples through demonstration what it truly means to be a disciple. Jesus knows
that he is the son of God, and despite that knowledge, he still gets down on his knees to wash his
disciples feet. This passage shows his profound love for all of his disciples. John s audience at this
time was all of the Christians living between 100 110 CE.
Although the Gospel of John is formally anonymous, with the help of internal and external
evidence, a better understanding of who wrote this text can be achieved. Modern scholars believe

It also included two well known ceremonies, the Water Ceremony and Light Ceremony found in
chapters seven and eight, along with the sacrifices of lambs in the Temple during the Passover. In
the Synoptic Gospels, Matthew, Mark, and Luke, most of events take place in Galilee, whereas in
the Gospel of John more events take place in Jerusalem and Judea. These customs and locations of
events suggest that the audience this Gospel was written for were people who believe in
Judaism.4 Despite these conclusions, some may argue that the Gospel of John was written more
for Gentiles since this Gospel portrays Jews in a more hostile lightning as seen when they reject
Jesus.5 For many years, people have tried to approximate which year the Gospel of John was
finished. Many scholars believed that it was written sometime between 140 170 CE, and many
would also agree that John was the last written of the four Gospels. It is very hard to set a date for
this Gospel because of how the theological nature has developed. However, most scholars believe
now that it was

It is understandably very difficult to get past the witchcraft and view Wicca as a normal
religion, when witchcraft has always been said to be a satanic force. Wiccans do not believe in
the existence of a devil (they are not Satan worshippers)(2). Although the horned god has often
been mistaken for the devil by Christians, the two entities have no connection. As stated before,
there is no ultimate good or evil, sin is not a recognized concept either. Many will argue against
this by bringing up the pentacle, which is often mistaken for the pentagram. The five points on
both stars represent the four elements, plus the spirit. The difference between the two is that the
fifth point is pointed up on the pentacle, and down on the pentagram. The pentacle places the
spirit at the top, sending a positive message. As far as satanic practices go, no animal sacrifices will
be taking place in Wicca. The life of another is too sacred to allow this to happen. Bowls of

Chinas One-Child Policy Essay
China s One Child Policy
In our society, the United States, children are seen potentially as the as the future. Whether they are
male or female, they have the power to be something when they grow up. But if their life is cut
short, the opportunity to do so is taken away. In 1976, China implemented what is known as the
quot; One Child Policy quot; in order to try and solve their problem of overpopulation (McDonald,
1996). Although the policy may seem as though it is a good idea in solving the problem, the
consequences of this policy has lead to female infanticide.

First of all, are they willing to keep the child since it is the only one they can legally keep? If the
couple decides that the child they want is a male, they must decide on what to do with this child.
What happens to the child ranges from giving them up to state orphanages to murder. Due to the
enforcement of the one child policy, many female children end up in orphanages (Beijing Review,
1997). Being put into an orphanage in our society would give the child a chance to live and maybe
even be adopted by another family. In China, the conditions in the orphanages are so filthy that the
neglect that they would have at home if the couple decided to keep the female would be better than
the maltreatment they would receive.
Many female children end up in orphanages in China rarely having males occupy them unless
there was something wrong with the child. Each month 90 percent from 50 to 60 baby girls
arrive in one of the many orphanages and end their lives their (Choe, 1995). The children sit on

are buckets that are placed under the holes in the seats to catch their excretions. When it is time for

Three Main Factors Leading To The Fall Of Mayan Civilizations
Mayan civilization, as one of the most dominant indigenous societies throughout the history, has
never been forgotten either by historians or normal people. With its vigorous development, an
era of Golden Age began during the Classic Period. However, once untouchable, Mayan
civilization crashed in such a short time as if it had never appeared before. The collapse of
Mayan civilization is like a mystery for historians today, so they never give up searching for
evidence that caused the dramatic reversal in history. Since there was not a decisive cause led to
the fall of Mayan civilization, three main factors possibly could bring about the Maya collapse
contemporarily: drought, warfare between city states, and overpopulation. Foremost, drought plays
a dominant role in leading to the fall of Mayan civilization. Drought has always been connected
with a part of extinction because the living environment is one of the most crucial points for
survival. Drought is caused by prolonged shortages of water supply and there is no species can live
without water, so all the living factors are depending on the living environment. Mayan civilization

Maya region may have supported a population of some ten million people during the height of
the classic period. Such a large population was probably insupportable in the long run because of

agricultural capacity. For those regions suffered from a water shortage, the lack of rain and
repeated crop failures make it entirely impossible for farmers, which accounts for 90 percent of the
population, to make a living. As a result, under the pressure of limited resource and living

Perceiving Dogs Equal Vs. Property
Perceiving Dogs Equal vs. Property In general, dogs are associated with loyalty, companionship,
and aid. In Pam Houston s A Blizzard Under Blue Sky, the narrator attempts to treat her
depression through experiencing the adventure of spending a night outside in the cold weather of
Utah. Then, the narrator becomes successful in her adventure with the support and assistance of
her two dogs, Hailey and Jackson. On the contrary, in Jack London s To Build a Fire, a man is
traveling along the Yukon Trail, on his way to his group of friends where he encounters a dog
who
grows to have a poor relationship with the man but remains with him until his death. The
similarities and differences between the two relationships make a comment on interactions between
humans and animals. The comparison of these two short stories demonstrates how dogs are only
beneficial to humans when they are deemed an equal and a counterpart, however not as valuable
when disrespected through regard as one s property. The narrator of A Blizzard Under Blue Sky
exemplifies the components of a relationship between a dog and an individual that produces mutual
benefit. The essential piece is equality, which is expressed in both the actions the narrator takes
toward the dogs as well as the dialogue between the three characters: Jackson, Hailey, and the
narrator. The existence of dialogue between them alone reveals equality because dialogue in general
is exclusive between two humancharacters but in this

treated the class like any other class; biology seemed like a multitude of body parts simply
keeping us alive. However, my slightest interest in biology molded into an undeterred passion
after taking a difficult test on neurology. My teacher had given us a problem regarding
neuroinhibitors and their application in daily life, and wanted to see how we approached the
problem. After wrapping my head around the problem, I was able to determine how dopamine
affects the body and what it did in the synapse of the neuron. That was the day that marked my
interest in biology specifically neurobiology. I witnessed the various applications that neurology
had in real life, gaining confidence in researching different problems in this field of study.
From that point onwards, I pursued time outside of school to hone my skills in scientific research,
focusing on topics that related to the brain. In the future, I would like to advance my studies in
neuroscience. I relished the time I spent in the cell bio imaging labs at Arizona State University
and the time I currently spend at Barrow s Neurological Center in Phoenix, but I am always curious

Diabetes Non-Compliance Case Study
Ellen is a 16 year old girl who has an array of physical, mental, and social health problems. These
problems include type 1 diabetes (T1D), depression and weight gain/loss. The purpose of this
paper is to identify evidence based interventions that can be utilized in order to improve her well
being and health. Diabetes Non compliance According to the case study, Ellen is non compliant
with managing her diabetes and this behavior worsens when her mother tries to intervene. Borus
and Laffel conducted a study in order to find out the adherence challenges in the management of
T1D in adolescents and discovered that common barriers are peer influences, affect/depression, and

This can be achieved through motivational interviewing. A randomized controlled trial compared
teenagers who received 12 months of motivational interviewing visits versus a control group

motivational interviewing had an average hemoglobin A1c decrease from 9.3% to 8.7%; this
improvement was maintained at 12 months and 24 months post intervention (Channon et al, 2007).
Another study performed by Stanger et al., studied the effects of motivational interviewing along
with contingency management (2013). The motivational interviewing sessions were done
individually with the adolescent and the contingency management concept was incorporated
through rewarding the adolescent with money for meeting various goals such as, regularly
monitoring their blood sugars. At the end of treatment, average hemoglobin A1c was decreased

The Redeeming Qualities of South Park Essay
The television show South Park is a very controversial show which has been attacked by the
media, politicians, parents, the school system, and just about every other social group imaginable.
Why is the show so controversial? The reason it is attacked so thoroughly is because of its crude
humor and vulgar displays by its characters, as well as the fact that it attacks the thoughts and
beliefs of every religion in the world. This vulgarity and intolerance is most notable in the character
Cartman, who is extremely offensive in his thoughts, ideas, and actions. The show does, however,
provide a balance to Cartman s antics through his co stars Stan and Kyle. Stan, and Kyle almost
always stand up to Cartman and ridicule his intolerance,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Censorship has been around as long as written words have been available to the general public,
and whether or not that suppression of ideas is a good idea or not does not change the fact that
it is the parent s job to decide what their children will be allowed to read, watch, or play with.
Those who criticize the show based on these offenses are either being intolerant themselves, or
not paying close attention to the deeper meaning of the show. The show centers around Cartman
as the antagonist, who regularly provides insulting views, and Stan and Kyle, whom provide
opposing views in order to balance out Cartman s stances. An example of this occurs in the
episode Something This Way Wall Mart Comes. Wal Mart s overtaking of towns, and the social
injustice that occurs with its arrival, is portrayed as a local small business that they boys shop at
is closed because of the loss of business that occurs when Wal Mart comes to their town. After
reflecting on their friend s plight Stan says See, that sucks dude and Cartman replies What, that s
called progress Kyle (Parker and Stone, 2004). This is just one example where Cartman shows his
selfish nature. All he cares about is the fact that a huge new store is open and he can get his mother

Instead of society holding women to a standard and identity establish by it, women must release themselves from their chains and focus on discovering the very essence of their identity and establish their own selves. Furthermore, Hawthorne builds his characters as defiant to the very idea of sin itself. Hester embellishes the scarlet letter and openly displays it to the public (add quote). Hawthorne reveals the need for women to challenge society s idea of sin. Society passes judgment upon those who violates its code of conduct. However, the very act itself leads to contradiction and hypocrisy. Society punishes itself in an attempt to correct and justify themselves in the eye of god. Women must realize the fatal flaws of such beliefs and not allow society to drag them down into a cesspool of guilt and repentance. For if women allows sin to dominate their lives, they subject themselves to a life of loneliness, despair, and constant attacks on their conscience. Hawthorne wishes for women to accept their sins and in turn uses it as a weapon against the discrimination of society. The acceptance of sin takes away its power to control and dominates the women s life. By openly revealing the sin to society, women can take back their identities and limit society in its ability to hurt them. • 17. Organ Donation For Organ Transplants INTRODUCTION Organ donation is one of the most pressing health policy issues for our government to deal with and organ donation rates in England must increase in order to meet the demand for organs on waiting lists. Furthermore, the demand for surgical procedures such as organ transplantation has rapidly increased after scientific breakthroughs in transplant technologies as well as the advent of new medicines to reduce many problems associated with transplants, thereby increasing the life expectancy of people receiving the transplant. With more than 7000 to 8000 people on the waiting list in England alone, on the waiting list for an organ transplant and only an estimated 2,800 organs that are transplanted each year (NHSBT 2016), there is a significant shortage of organs available for transplant. There is an increasing concern that the current system for organ donation in England, is failing to meet the demand in organs needed for transplantation. Symptoms, Causes, And Treatments Of Schizophrenia Symptoms, Causes, and Treatments of Schizophrenia Cassidy Echalico Florida State College at Jacksonville Symptoms, Causes, and Treatments of Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is a stigmatized disease that labels victims as crazy. One percent of people develop schizophrenia in their lifetime; more than two million Americans suffer from schizophrenia in a given year (Spearing, 1999). Although schizophrenia affects men and women equally, it often appears earlier in men than in women; Men are generally affected in the late teens to early twenties and women are generally affected in the twenties to early thirties (Spearing, 1999). Schizophrenia is highly uncommon in children, affecting only about 1 in 40,000 in comparison to 1 in 100 in adults. Many of the victims do not realize they have schizophrenia until they have a first episode psychosis (Aas, Andreassen, Aminoff, Faerden, Romm, Nesvayeng, Berg, Simonsen, Agartz, and Melle. 2016). While many people only know the stereotyped effects of schizophrenia, a better understanding of the symptoms, causes, and possible treatments can clear many stigmas up. This version of the character was sometimes referred to as Queen Grimhilde in Disney publications of the 1930s, and was originally voiced by Lucille La Verne. In the versions of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfsthat have been sanitized for children, the action of the poem usually seems to concentrate on the possibility of violence aimed at the innocent young. In those stories, although the reader assumes the queen to be motivated by her envy of Snow White s youth and beauty, her motives seem to be subsidiary to the theme of violence itself. In Sexton s version, the queen s pride, which pumped in her like a poison, is diagnosed directly as motivation. Indeed, Sexton says that before the mirror labels Snow White as the most beautiful woman in the land, the girl has been no more important to the queen than a dust mouse under the bed. The mirror s announcement makes the queen suddenly aware of encroaching age and makes her determined to kill Snow White. At the end, the queen is punished for her pride by dancing to death in the red hot shoes. Sexton goes beyond simply making the queen a villain, however. In the poem s second verse paragraph, Sexton uses the second person you to suggest to the reader that everyone is subject to the corrupting effects of pride and may be subject to its rewards. Obviously, the intelligence community wasn t concerned with drug trafficking and in March of 2002 the U.S. State Department reported that the Northern Alliance had done nothing to curb the production of opium. As a result, in 2002, Afghanistans opium production had returned to a similar level (3,400 tons) before the ban from the Taliban. Internet censorship in China, South Africa and other countries is something that prohibits real discussion from taking place regarding issues that affect the public. For instance, in China, certain key word searches are automatically filtered out so that users cannot find the information they are seeking. While Internetcensorshipmay be good from one perspective (in terms of stemming the flow of child pornography, curbing false information, or putting a nation s interests first), it can be viewed as bad from another perspective (in terms of cutting down on the opportunity to inform sides of a dialogue, promoting free exchange of ideas, or discussing why one form of pornography is allowed but not another). This paper will show why Internet censorship can be interpreted in both positive and negative ways depending on the perspective that one adopts (whether one is pro Statist or anti Statist). In short, pros and cons depend wholly upon one s worldview and outlook. The first pro may be, as Lorentzen (2014) notes, that a partial censorship strategy is an effective way for governments to control the levels of discontent in their respective countries (p. 405). Lorentzen (2014) observes that this is a model that could be applied in China as it attempts to control its Internet content, though he argues that all nations could utilize it, permitting half of the discontent to be reported when discontent is high and all of the discontent to be reported when discontent is ... • 22. Analysis Of Mcewan s Atonement By Ian Mcewan When it comes to the personal, uncontrollable misfortunes in life, there seems to be two main ways to handle it: either ignore it, or face it then and there. Ian McEwan s Atonement is a prime example of this struggle in dealing with traumatic situations. In Paper One, I stated that McEwan suggests the best way to deal with life s traumas is to face them head on rather than to completely ignore them. McEwan shows this through the mistakes Briony makes as her innocence misguides her into a divided relationship with her sister Cecilia. Similarly, Robbie faces the traumatic war experiences and separation from Cecilia which puts himself in a tense situation that he cannot entirely grapple. In both cases, it s apparent that facing traumas head on leads the characters to reflect upon their choices and overcome weaknesses. However, in Parts Two and Three, Briony s personal stories, interpretation of events, and reflection of her choices imply something else. I think it s clear that McEwan ultimately emphasizes that a better way to cope with trauma is to write about them in the form of stories. Doing so allows one to not only acknowledge the traumas, but also to move beyond it, control it, and lessen its severity. These beneficial effects can only be achieved through means of writing stories. Writing stories forces one to acknowledge one s trauma and eventually embrace it. Briony takes advantage of this during her nursing experiences which forces her to mature and become independent. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Lovers, Thinkers, And Problem Solvers Of The World Humans: The Lovers, Thinkers, and Problem Solvers of the World Throughout the history of mankind we have constantly asked ourselves what our purpose is and if that purpose has meaning. Philosophers and religious leaders alike have answered these questions and many other essential questions that cross through our minds at one point or another. However, we as individuals must consider the answers proposed by others, and use their ideas as a foundation for the building of our own. In a world where every species has the same purpose, what makes our lives meaningful? I find the answer to be faith and religion. Faith and religion helps us make morally correct choices. When we have faith and follow a religion we try to have morals and learn things that help us make morally correct choices. We learn the difference between right and wrong, develop a conscience, and develop tolerance and respect for the people around us. An example of how a lack of religion and faith leads to people making morally wrong choices and not being tolerant or respectful for the people around them, can be seen in Death and the King s Horseman. Denver Race Riot The Chinese population of the United States used perseverance, resiliency and hard work to prove that they could succeed in a country that has blatantly discriminated against them and labeled them as undesirable and ineligible for citizenship. During the California Gold Rush in the mid 1800s, the United States saw an influx of immigrants from different parts of the world. The Chinese in particular were desperately trying to escape deplorable economic conditions in their native country. When the dream of harvesting gold turned elusive in California, they sought employment doing hard labor in the railroad construction. As this line of work eventually dried up as well, a few daring Chinese immigrants decided to explore Colorado in the 1860s. Attracted by the Colorado Gold Rush, they established Denver s Chinatown. As William Wei writes: The neighborhood was established around 1870 on Wazee Street between fifteenth and seventeenth Street. This area of town became known by the white population as Hop Alley, it also became infamous because of the establishment of opium dens, where there was alleged gambling and prostitution. • 29. Critical Success Factors Of A Firm s Performance Critical success factors are measures of those aspects of a firm s performance that are essential to its competitive advantage and, therefore, to its success (Blocher, Stout, Juras, Cokins, 2013). One of the original uses of Critical Success Factors as a concept is by McKinsey and Company in Boston during the 1950s to determine how a corporation should compete in each of its many businessunits (Isakson Sircar, 1990). As can be seen by the above quote, for a company in the real estatebusiness all of these critical success factors are either dependent upon or relate to the service provided by the firm. If a company is not providing the level or type of service which consumers are demanding, then none of the critical success factors mentioned above will show a positive position or future for the company. A generational change in the needs and wants of consumers in the real estate business has caused the growth of what the traditional service providers are calling hybrids, such as Redfin, Help A Sell, and Xome, which provide services to consumers that focus heavily on technological innovation and cutting cost for their customers (Inman, 2015). Sales, profitability, and liquidity are the three financial critical success factors. As is explained elsewhere on this paper, stem cells are extremely useful and hold amazing medical potential, especially to grow specific cells, tissues, and even organs for patients. Controversy mires the progress of stem cell research from embryos, however, and technical problems exist along with the ethical ones. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But how did the experimenters know if the cells that they had created were truly pluripotent stem cells? What could these cells form? First, a bit of background information must be included about chimeras. In basic terms, a chimera contains two sets of DNA, both of which are expressed. Different sections of the chimera s body will be derived from different DNA. A good example is an individual with eyes of two different colors (one green, one blue, etc). Chimeras can be formed when two fertilized eggs fuse together at an early stage, or when an unfertilized egg or extra sperm fuses with a fertilized egg. Now the developing organism contains two different genetic codes. In most cases, chimeras are completely healthy. There is no worry of immune rejection, because the cells are joined together far before any immune system exists to reject either. Now, back to the paper. How did chimeras help the scientists identify the pluripotent stem cells they had created? The scientists obtained mouse blastocysts that had certain traits different than those in the intended pluripotent cells. These blastocysts were injected with the potential induced pluripotent stem cells, and allowed to develop to birth. All the induced stem cells were designed to produce Gfp (green fluorescent protein), so if the newly born mice glowed green under ultraviolet light, then it proved that they indeed ... Three Main Factors Leading To The Fall Of Mayan Civilizations Mayan civilization, as one of the most dominant indigenous societies throughout the history, has never been forgotten either by historians or normal people. With its vigorous development, an era of Golden Age began during the Classic Period. However, once untouchable, Mayan civilization crashed in such a short time as if it had never appeared before. The collapse of Mayan civilization is like a mystery for historians today, so they never give up searching for evidence that caused the dramatic reversal in history. Since there was not a decisive cause led to the fall of Mayan civilization, three main factors possibly could bring about the Maya collapse contemporarily: drought, warfare between city states, and overpopulation. Foremost, drought plays a dominant role in leading to the fall of Mayan civilization. Drought has always been connected with a part of extinction because the living environment is one of the most crucial points for survival. Drought is caused by prolonged shortages of water supply and there is no species can live without water, so all the living factors are depending on the living environment. Mayan civilization faced serious... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to a famous archaeologist, anthropologist, epigrapher Michael D. Coe s estimate, The Maya region may have supported a population of some ten million people during the height of the classic period. Such a large population was probably insupportable in the long run because of the difficulties of ensuring a steady water supply and because of the limits of the region s agricultural capacity. For those regions suffered from a water shortage, the lack of rain and repeated crop failures make it entirely impossible for farmers, which accounts for 90 percent of the population, to make a living. As a result, under the pressure of limited resource and living circumstances, overpopulation explained the decline of Mayan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Cochlear Implant Experience I am an eighteen year old senior at Mountain Lakes High School. I was a few months old when my parents realized I could not hear. A doctor confirmed that I was deaf. My parents knew I needed the best education. I received a hearing aid, but it never worked. Finally, my father had me evaluated for a cochlear implant. When I had the surgery, it was a success because I was finally able to hear. I attend a program mainly for deaf and hard of hearingstudents, mainstreamed with hearing students. I had to work tremendously hard to understand spoken language and to learn how to speak. When I am in a mainstreamed class I have to pay extra attention more than any of the students that can hear. I use a notetaker and an interpreter to be able to understand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Perceiving Dogs Equal Vs. Property Perceiving Dogs Equal vs. Property In general, dogs are associated with loyalty, companionship, and aid. In Pam Houston s A Blizzard Under Blue Sky, the narrator attempts to treat her depression through experiencing the adventure of spending a night outside in the cold weather of Utah. Then, the narrator becomes successful in her adventure with the support and assistance of her two dogs, Hailey and Jackson. On the contrary, in Jack London s To Build a Fire, a man is traveling along the Yukon Trail, on his way to his group of friends where he encounters a dog who grows to have a poor relationship with the man but remains with him until his death. The similarities and differences between the two relationships make a comment on interactions between humans and animals. The comparison of these two short stories demonstrates how dogs are only beneficial to humans when they are deemed an equal and a counterpart, however not as valuable when disrespected through regard as one s property. The narrator of A Blizzard Under Blue Sky exemplifies the components of a relationship between a dog and an individual that produces mutual benefit. The essential piece is equality, which is expressed in both the actions the narrator takes toward the dogs as well as the dialogue between the three characters: Jackson, Hailey, and the narrator. The existence of dialogue between them alone reveals equality because dialogue in general is exclusive between two humancharacters but in this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Neurology Admission Essay At the beginning of my freshman year, my least favorite class was Honors Biology. I initially treated the class like any other class; biology seemed like a multitude of body parts simply keeping us alive. However, my slightest interest in biology molded into an undeterred passion after taking a difficult test on neurology. My teacher had given us a problem regarding neuroinhibitors and their application in daily life, and wanted to see how we approached the problem. After wrapping my head around the problem, I was able to determine how dopamine affects the body and what it did in the synapse of the neuron. That was the day that marked my interest in biology specifically neurobiology. I witnessed the various applications that neurology had in real life, gaining confidence in researching different problems in this field of study. From that point onwards, I pursued time outside of school to hone my skills in scientific research, focusing on topics that related to the brain. In the future, I would like to advance my studies in neuroscience. I relished the time I spent in the cell bio imaging labs at Arizona State University and the time I currently spend at Barrow s Neurological Center in Phoenix, but I am always curious ... Science entails observing and experimenting aspects of the physical and natural world, but many people ignore aspects of the world that could in turn be the answer to underlying problems. In the future, I want to use to the resources provided by the Coolidge Scholarship to be a scientist who not only passionately conducts research, but one who reveals the beauties of science to future, budding scientists so that perhaps, they can also develop an interest for science and revolutionize the world that we live ... • 47. Diabetes Non-Compliance Case Study Ellen is a 16 year old girl who has an array of physical, mental, and social health problems. These problems include type 1 diabetes (T1D), depression and weight gain/loss. The purpose of this paper is to identify evidence based interventions that can be utilized in order to improve her well being and health. Diabetes Non compliance According to the case study, Ellen is non compliant with managing her diabetes and this behavior worsens when her mother tries to intervene. Borus and Laffel conducted a study in order to find out the adherence challenges in the management of T1D in adolescents and discovered that common barriers are peer influences, affect/depression, and disordered eating (2010). However, in order to overcome these barriers, Borus and Laffel suggest that interventions are successful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be achieved through motivational interviewing. A randomized controlled trial compared teenagers who received 12 months of motivational interviewing visits versus a control group receiving only supportive visits for 12 months (Channon et al., 2007). The group that received the motivational interviewing had an average hemoglobin A1c decrease from 9.3% to 8.7%; this improvement was maintained at 12 months and 24 months post intervention (Channon et al, 2007). Another study performed by Stanger et al., studied the effects of motivational interviewing along with contingency management (2013). The motivational interviewing sessions were done individually with the adolescent and the contingency management concept was incorporated through rewarding the adolescent with money for meeting various goals such as, regularly monitoring their blood sugars. At the end of treatment, average hemoglobin A1c was decreased from 11.62% to 9.11% and adherence to diabetes management was increased as represented by how many times the adolescent checked their blood sugar in a day and week (Stanger et al., ... • 48. The Redeeming Qualities of South Park Essay The television show South Park is a very controversial show which has been attacked by the media, politicians, parents, the school system, and just about every other social group imaginable. Why is the show so controversial? The reason it is attacked so thoroughly is because of its crude humor and vulgar displays by its characters, as well as the fact that it attacks the thoughts and beliefs of every religion in the world. This vulgarity and intolerance is most notable in the character Cartman, who is extremely offensive in his thoughts, ideas, and actions. The show does, however, provide a balance to Cartman s antics through his co stars Stan and Kyle. Stan, and Kyle almost always stand up to Cartman and ridicule his intolerance,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Censorship has been around as long as written words have been available to the general public, and whether or not that suppression of ideas is a good idea or not does not change the fact that it is the parent s job to decide what their children will be allowed to read, watch, or play with. Those who criticize the show based on these offenses are either being intolerant themselves, or not paying close attention to the deeper meaning of the show. The show centers around Cartman as the antagonist, who regularly provides insulting views, and Stan and Kyle, whom provide opposing views in order to balance out Cartman s stances. An example of this occurs in the episode Something This Way Wall Mart Comes. Wal Mart s overtaking of towns, and the social injustice that occurs with its arrival, is portrayed as a local small business that they boys shop at is closed because of the loss of business that occurs when Wal Mart comes to their town. After reflecting on their friend s plight Stan says See, that sucks dude and Cartman replies What, that s called progress Kyle (Parker and Stone, 2004). This is just one example where Cartman shows his selfish nature. All he cares about is the fact that a huge new store is open and he can get his mother to buy him all the best new toys, while Stan and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
