Cost of Disruption to the Business
Average cost of downtime per
Hour across all industries and
organizational sizes
A collective 8 hours of downtime per year
would cost an organization

Differences Between DR & Backup
BaaS DRaaS
• Snapshot or agent technology
• Used for longer term retention and archive
• Fulfills offsite capability
• Smaller recoveries – individual items
• Less aggressive SLA
• Replication technology
• Full failover and failback
• Required to be at a second location
• Large scale recovery – full datacenters and
applications
• Will be required to run production systems

Backups for DR?
Per VM Consistency
Lack of Native Automation and Orchestration
Disruption to Production Systems During Protection and Testing
Large Scale DR Testing and Failover/Failback with Automation
and Orchestration
11
VM Snapshots VS Replication
Snapshot Based
Disaster Recovery
Snapshots
~1-3 checkpoints a day
Near-synchronous replication
Thousand of checkpoints in one day
5 sec
12 hrs
RPOs of seconds, RTOs of minutes
5 min RTOs, CDP uses incremental writes are
Replicates continuously saved to a journal life
RPOs of hours, Long RTOs
Snapshots are scheduled rather than continuous,
Because of their impact on production, meaning
Recovery intervals of hours

Editor's Notes

  1. NO ANIMATION Today we are here to discuss a key component of business transformation- the evolution of BCDR to IT Resilience. IT resilience is the ability to innovate without disruption to the business. We shall discuss how our customers leverage Zerto to Protect, Transform and Innovate their business.
  2. What this means to your business is that we enable you to manage, protect, recover and move your applications and data across on-premises and/or cloud with a single, simple, scalable platform.
  3.  As we look at our software platform in more detail, keep in mind its foundation is continuous data protection—the always-on nature of Zerto means no more scheduling, no snapshots, no more babysitting backup copies. We’ve converged the functions of disaster recovery, continuous backup, and long-term retention. Plus, Zerto’s replication engine is best in class for data mobility and migrations, whether that’s across on-premises or cloud. That same technology unlocks a wide range of other use cases, including for data reuse and enabling on-demand test and development sandboxes that are only seconds behind production. That granularity is also great for ransomware mitigation, security forensics, and a number of other security-related use cases that our customers are increasingly leveraging Zerto for.   Then what really makes the magic happen is the orchestration and automation that are built-in to the platform. All the use cases I’ve mentioned are made possible because of how Zerto eliminates manual processes and drives efficiencies by taking the pain out of data protection.   And Analytics is included in the platform as well, including out of the box dashboards and reports that provide complete visibility across multi-site, multi-cloud environments and allows for easy, hands-off compliance reporting. And it’s not just visibility: we give you tools to do intelligent, predictive infrastructure planning to deepen your ability to be proactive.   All of this is available across a wide variety of platforms and clouds regardless of whether you want on-premises, public cloud, hybrid cloud, or cloud native deployments. We provide deep integration with strategic technology partners, including many of the ones you also rely on, to ensure easy interoperability between our platform and your existing tech stack.
  4. In summary, the platform benefits an organization for its flexibility to fit into any infrastructure so that there is no vendor lock-in and being software-only there is a no additional hardware or appliance required. Mobility is enabled through the replication to migrate your VMs and application at ease and with confidence. Simplicity is at the core of everything we do, providing one experience and one platform whether that’s on-premises or cloud. And whatever your size and number of VMs you can rest assured that the platform is built to grow alongside your business with our efficient, scale-out architecture. Lastly with its built-in orchestration all those manual DR and backup processes are automated to ensure you save resource and time.
