Compare And Contrast River Valley Civilizations
All of the Early River Valley Civilization have contributed in a good variety of ways. The three empires
(Egypt,Sumer, and Indus) are similar in their own contributions.
The biggest similarity the three civilizations had were record keeping. Sumer had created a system called
cuneiform. Egypt developed a system of writing called hieroglyphs. The indus developed a written language
made up of 400 symbols. Record keeping was very important to all three civilizations because they needed
recording events for taxes, wars, and religious texts which was a success for each culture civilization. So the
three Early River Valley civilizations used a written language that helped them effectively. Another similarity
the three river valley civilizations had in common was that they all believed in the same thing. The three
civilizations were polytheism. Polytheism means that you believe in many gods. The egyptians had believed in
over 2,000 gods and that there was a god for every temple. The sumerians believed that each god had there own
city they would watch over. The indus believed the government was controlled by god and hinduism.

Sumer needed the government, Since sumer was so large. They 30,000 people. Sumer was so large that there
were needs for specialized workers. The Indus developed a production of textile. Textiles are yped of cloth or

Workplace Diversity Paper
Abstract
This paper is aimed at providing a framework for discussion of diversity and how it pairs with demographic
characteristics. It is divided into four parts. Part I represents diversity in the workforce, which reflects the
rational of organizations and how they handle diversity in the occupations of their workers. Parts II characterize
diversity and age, as it responds to the fact that older people have the skill set to keep them working well past
retirement age. Part III denotes religion, where as more employers are beginning to recognize the need to allow
employees to take time to pray. Part IV symbolizes the personality traits in diversity and how different is not
always viewed as wrong but can be an incentive to other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The merit principle means that appointment and promotion decisions must be made without patronage,
favoritism or unjustified discrimination. There is a statutory vacancy advertising arrangements which ensure
that all eligible candidates have a reasonable opportunity to apply. Also selection decisions must be made on the
basis of a comparative assessment of relative suitability or efficiency.
Diversity and Age
In order to maintain a competitive edge the legal profession and the clients for whom they represent, need to
employ an age diverse workforce that reflects the demands of our changing community and its potential
markets. They are considerable bottom line benefits in utilizing qualified older workers and according to the
United States study conducted for the National Council on the aging, most reported that they believed older
workers were reliable, thorough, conscientious and dependable. Myths and stereotypes must be directly
countered through education.
By making a healthy business case for age diversity, many employers have driven significant change within
their organization. The business case is based on a simple premise; people are living longer than ever before
and are having fewer children. As a result the population is aging. From an employment perspective, the
dramatic drop in numbers of young people

Conformity In Dead Poets Society
Carpe diem, seize the day, boys, seize the day. Mr. Keating told this quote to the boys almost every day and he
wanted them to be their own individuals. While watching the movie, Dead Poets Society, we realize how
important it is to have individuality and to not conform to everyone else s normal ways to live. The Dead Poets
Society was filmed by Peter Weir in the year 1989, starring boys attending a preparatory school, who are being
forced to ideas of conformity, not being able to have their own ideals, and dealing with their overbearing
parents. Conformity is a huge deal back in 1959, you couldn t talk back to your teachers, your parents, or
anyone for that matter. Conformity can have a negative undertone in school because students are supposed to be
individual and should not have to be the same as everyone else. Students should be able to act how they want to
be who they are. Children in school should be given their own opportunity to do what they please. Non
conformity can have a positive undertone in school because not being conformed to everyone else s norm, you
are a special individual. Being able to do as you want is good to becoming your own person and not being like
everyone else in school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

there to help me sort out through the problems in life and is always there to let me talk to her about life. She
gives me a lot of physical and mental support in life. Just like Mr. Keating would help the boys with their own

Compare American and Chinese Universities
Compare American and Chinese Universities
American universities and Chinese universities have very different admission requirements. American
universities, most of them, offer fall term and spring term enrollments, and some schools even offer winter term
or summer term enrollments as well. When they make a decision of whether to admit an applicant, they
consider the applicant s GPA and SAT score, and sometimes give privileges to students who demonstrate their
achievements on extra curricula activities. Because most of American universities accept both types of
freshman and transfer students, students who are not able to enroll at a four year university right after they
graduate from high school can still apply for universities as transfer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By this system, students have flexibility to choose a class and schedule a course roadmap that outlines the
courses students take within the terms. Students can take courses on fall term and spring term at semester
system schools, and fall term, winter term and spring term at quarter system schools. Many schools offer a
summer session for students as well. Therefore, each student would have their unique class schedule and course
roadmap based on their own preference. On the contrary, Chinese universities have a very different system
called academic year system, which means students graduate when they finish certain years of study. By this
system, students are required to declare their majors very early in which on the application form when they
apply for the school. Since the major is decided, students have to follow the school made course roadmap to
take most of the courses. Students in Chinese universities may have a few choices on choosing a different
instructor or different class time for the general education classes, but they have very limited choices for the
major classes. Moreover, all the universities in China do not offer summer session. Consequently, in most
circumstances, same major students who enrolled in the school in the same year probably have same class
schedule each semester, especially on junior and senior level. Therefore, based on the education system,

Cultural Values Of Bangladesh
Introduction
This report will discuss the cultural values of Bangladesh. The main purpose is putting the Geert Hofstede s
dimensions of culture into practice. The researcher chose Bangladesh due to the following reason. Recently, I
have worked with the Red Cross refugee program. We have a volunteer who used to be a refugee from
Bangladesh. After a difficult time setting up her life, Habiba, now, enjoys her life in NZ and would like to help
other refugees. Her story inspired me to do the study about Bangladesh culture.
Discussion and Analysis
The five cultural dimensions of Bangladesh will be discussed in this report. Each dimension includes three
questions. The researcher recorded the answers of the volunteer and analysed them in order to evaluate the
cultural values of Bangladesh. These results are compared with Hofstede s theory to have a true and fair view
about this culture.
1. Individualism vs Collectivism
This dimension determines the culture in the term of I or we . Individualism prefers to the society in which
individuals only take care of themselves and their immediate family. In contrast, collectivism prefers to the the
society in which people integrate and share good relationships in groups, and expect the unquestioning loyalty.
(Hofstede, 1991). The three questions related to this dimension are:
Question 1: In your culture, do people have many generations (grandparents, parents and children) living under
one roof?
Answer: Yes, we have many families with

Books Of Ezra And Nehemiah
The Books of Ezra and Nehemiah of the Old Testament are essential works in understanding history of the fifth
century before Christ. In order to discuss why these books are essential, and exegetical investigation of each is
necessary, comparing and contrasting regarding the literary and historical contexts of each, including the
religious and cultural challenges that each book discusses. An exegetical investigation of the historical context
of the Books of Ezra and Nehemiah indicates that both books have similar religious and cultural challenges of
ethnic division and exclusivity in community, intermarriage, and restoration, as well as similar methods of
addressing those challenges in their respective communities both men prophesied to ... Show more content on

During the first year of his reign, Cyrus, king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord spoken by
Jeremiah, was stirred by the Lord to build a temple in Jerusalem., The author also explans that Cyrus also posed
a fatal threat to the Neo Babylonian Empire and rose in power over Babylon after he captured Nabonidus, the
Babylonian leader. According to Katherine Southwood, one of the most prominent sources that verifies this
history is the Cyrus Cylinder, which portrays the potential, under Persian imperial leadership, for exiled
communities to return to their homeland. This action on Cyrus s part to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem is a
major challenge that Ezra has in the later chapters. When Ezra is finally discussed in chapter seven, this begins
what is called the Ezra Memoirs. Ezra was a priest and a famous expert in the law...[who] went to the Persian
court to obtain the royal patronage for the scheme which was devised, or rather for so much of it as it seemed
worth while to communicate to Artaxerxes, the scheme of rebuilding the temple, which Cyrus had began., The
reply of Artaxerxes I is shown in the latter majority of chapter seven, which gives Ezra the power to use money
from the royal treasury if necessary to assist in rebuilding the temple. According to Artaxerxes I s decree, Ezra
was sent to supervise Juah and Jerusalem with reagrd to the law of...God...and

African History Chapter 1 Summary
The second chapter of Africans and their History starts off with discussing the very beginning of African
civilizations which includes talking about Charles Darwin s The Descent of Man and how the first people
originated from Africa instead of Asia like people once thought. The chapter also delves into how the beings
before homo sapiens began to evolve and slowly learn new skills. Some of these skills include hunting, creating
fire, learning to make clothes and many other useful strategies to for the people living at the time. As time went
on, Africans learned to make more useful agriculture tools with the help of iron. Iron was a huge technological
advancement around 2000 B.C. giving the people of the time many new ways to grow and harvest plants more
efficiently.

Axum symbolizes the wealth and importance of the civilization of the ancient kingdom that was there. The
kingdom was at the crossroads of the three continents: Africa, Arabia, and the Greco Roman World, and was the
most powerful state between the Eastern Roman Empire and Persia. They were in command of the ivory trade
with Sudan, its fleets controlled the Red Sea trade through the port of Adulis and the inland routes of
northeastern Africa which was a great feat at the time.
Cultural life enjoyed by the Carthaginians may have been below that of the larger cities of the Classical world.
Their interests were turned toward commerce rather than art, and Carthage controlled much of the Western
trade. In Roman times the Punic beds, cushions, and mattresses were regarded as luxuries, and Punic joinery
and furniture were copied. Much of the revenue of Carthage happened to come from its exploitation of the
silver mines of North Africa and southern Spain, begun as early as 800 BCE. Carthage changed slightly under
roman ruling and stimulated growth in urban

Personal Reflection Of Personal Ethics In The Classroom
I am one of the numerous amount of students enrolled in your class and most likely, you have no idea who I am.
I am hopeful that this letter will apprise you about my personality, work ethic, and other characteristics.
When I was younger, I enjoyed being constantly active; whether that be hanging off the couch while watching
T.V. or running around my house yelling incoherent phrases to drive my mother insane, I did it all. One day, I
stumbled upon a video of a girl teaching the viewer how to do a skill named the back handspring (a skill where
you push off from an upright standing position into vertical back onto your feet to complete a full rotation). In
awe, it inspired me to attempt it myself, until I realized it took a lot more to flip backwards and expect to land
on your hands without falling onto your face. I can recall myself watching a plethora of these varieties of videos
in where people demonstrated how to do different certain skills. I would be fascinated by the idea that you can
maneuver your body to do tricks that most people would not dare to attempt. Not long after that, I begged to try
out and, to my amazement, ended up making it into what would become my gymnastics team.
When I first began, I was not prepared for the amount of work that was required of the individual, both
physically and mentally. I remember the first practice I attended was one of my most exhausting. Being a
newcomer to such an intense sport, it allowed many, many mistakes. The quote said

Avoid Limiting Answers
I should avoid to put two ideas in one question, each idea should have its own question. I have to select my
population in a manner that I ask the relevant people in order to avoid population definition error and sampling
frame error. I should not target SIU students when I wanted to select business owners in the City of Carbondale.
This will help me not survey the wrong people. Furthermore, I should avoid leading questions and asking
wrong questions. I have to ask relevant questions that will provide me with relevant answers to my
questionnaire. I have to avoid using broad terms when developing questions because respondents might
misinterpret the questions. I should avoid limiting answer options. Providing more answer options gives
respondents a pool from which they can select their preferred answers unlike when I channel them to only two
options. The problem I had was that some questions needed follow up questions while others needed preceding
questions.
The questions were developed based on both the independent and dependent variables. I knew that the City of
Carbondale would like to examine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

effective and efficient, that will increase the business owners level of satisfaction hence improve relations

Film Analysis Of Wes Anderson s The Grand Budapest Hotel
Wes Anderson is one of the greatest illusion makers of all time. He doesn t create movies but entire worlds with
his distinct sensibility and dazzling visual style. The 48 year old Texan is one of the few filmmakers in modern
cinema with the ability to articulate such idiosyncratic visions. Every frame of The Grand Budapest Hotel is so
Anderson one can spend hours dissecting each and every shot. The film is a colorful and delicious confection to
watch that at times you may have the urge to lick the screen. The film opens to a young lady visiting a
courtyard, gazing up at a statue of The Author whilst holding his memoir entitled, The Grand Budapest Hotel.
We start out in 1985 in a grey sky post Communist town. The Author is shooing away is grandson and recalls
the time in the late 60 s when his younger self (Jude Law) stayed at the title hotel. At the time of his stay, the
legendary hotel was falling into obsolescence. As time goes on he becomes acquainted with its elegant and
mysterious owner, Mr. Moustafa (F. Murray Abraham). Law is curious as to why the immensely rich Moustafa
chooses to accompany alone on his visits and insists on sleeping in a room no bigger than a closet. Moustafa,
acknowledging The Authors own work with great respect decides to invite him to dinner to satisfy his curiosity.
Over the course of the meal, Moustafa reminisces about his first days at the hotel where he worked as a lobby

Harris And Me Research Paper
Children deprived of words become school dropouts, dropouts deprived of hope behave delinquently. Amateur
censors blame delinquency on reading immoral books and magazines, when in fact, the inability to read
anything is the basic trouble. (Peter S. Jennison) Censorship could easily be one of the biggest controversies
around the world today. The book Harris and Me by Gary Paulsen, about a boy who stays with his distant
cousin Harris on the family farm because his parents are a bunch of puke drunks. Spends the summer fighting
commie japs , hunting mice, and tussling with the rooster Ernie. This book was banned by the ALA for nothing

The book always had a certain playful, tone that opened the classrooms mind to another level of loving
literature. It s so hard now days to get children to read with all of the technology they are surrounded by, so
please ALA don t take away the few good books because of a couple cuss words. Harris and Me should not be
banned due to the little profanity found in the book, and the reality of relationships between two young boys.
Profanity should be the last reason a great novel should be banned. After all, it is reality, it is how people talk,
and in the case of Harris and Me, its definitely how young boys talk to each other. The use of the language is
hardly profanity at all. For example, Harris says, Well you can just blow it out your butt you old cow, you ain t
no grown up to tell me what to do. How the hell am I supposed to know things if I don t go ahead and ask
them? (Gary Paulsen, Harris and Me .7) The words feel elementary to me, he says butt instead of ass, and old
cow instead of old heifer. Maybe it s not the actual words that parents are losing their minds about, but more

Oregon Water Resources Department states it is legal to collect rainwater off of surfaces like roofs or tarps,
(but) property owners need to obtain permits before altering or collecting flowing bodies of water.
Some states have regulated the collection of rainwater, but have not necessarily banned the collection. Some
states even offer tax incentives for the proper collection and retention of rainwater on your own property.
The problem is that some people do not want to follow certain laws, because they have deemed them
unnecessary, to restrictive or simply do not want to bother with the proper permits and refuse to research what

Some want to believe the click bait headlines, because it validates what they already believe. This is what gets
people in trouble. Of course there are laws that do not make any sense, but they are still the law.

Analysis Of Schindler s List, And Benigni s Life Is...
Throughout history, a very small amount of women have made their way into myths, and legend as heroes
rather they are portrayed as the seductress, or some other secondary character. Even today, we still live in a
male dominated society, where women are still being underrepresented, and even misrepresented. While there
are many works of art that have women as the main subject, they are often depicted as mothers, victims, sexual
beings, or shown as pure, and innocent. We rarely get to see women playing the dominant roles. Holocaust art
works are no stranger to this theme. In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting how females are depicted
in Spielberg s Schindler s List, and Benigni s Life is Beautiful. While the Oscar nominated movies, Schindler s
List and Life is Beautiful, both fail to represent women in the spotlight as main characters, each movie seem to
choose different ways and use different techniques to depict women. In Schindler s List, the portrayal of women
are the stereotypical passive women quite the opposite to Life is Beautiful where we see more dominant and
independent women. It is clear from the beginning that both movies are told from a male perspective. We start
off with Schindler s wife, Emilie Schindler, played by Caroline Goodall. In the movie she is portrayed as a filial
wife who comes to Germany to be with her womanizing husband. We can see from her actions that she a very
patient woman who loves Schindler unconditionally, even as he

An Reader s Creation Of Meaning
Have you ever read a page or two from a book and realize you have no remembrance of what was written on
those pages? It is easy for our minds to drift away from what we re reading, causing us to lose comprehension
of the book. When working with children, it is important for them to comprehend the books they read. Although
a child may say a book was good or they liked that particular book, did they fully comprehend what they read?
To be certain whether children comprehend what they are reading, teachers use retellings in order to evaluate
their reading performance. Retellings are truly the reader s creation of meaning.
A retelling is a way of assessing and evaluating students memories, reactions, and understandings of their
reading (2000). These activities are important because it is a way of evaluating the quality of students
comprehension. When teachers evaluate students retelling, they are measuring the reader s construction of
meaning. During these evaluations, teachers are looking to see if students cite specific story elements from the
text, such as the characters, plot, setting, resolution, and theme, if their retelling was sequential (beginning,
middle, and end), if the student made inferences to fill in the missing information, and if they are making
connections to the story. Teachers also evaluate whether the student omitted any information, such as main
ideas, details to support main ideas, evidence of inferential thinking, and key vocabulary to understanding

A Primate s Memoir, By American Biologist
(1)The book, A Primate s Memoir, by American biologist, Robert Sapolsky is divided into four parts. These four
parts detail the stages of both his research of the behavior of a troop of African baboons and his unintentional
research of human behavior as to himself through his encounters and experiences as a young researcher in
Kenya, Africa for the first time. Sapolsky names the four parts of his book to describe the four stages of a
baboon s growth. Ultimately, these parts also reflect Sapolsky s personal growth and transformation as he
journeys through Africa and studies the baboon troop. Since, at the outset of his research, the baboons he will
study seem to be around this age, Part 1 is labeled The Adolescent Years . As he is both a rather naïve and
untested young man as well as a new researcher on his first trip to Kenya, these are also adolescent years for
Sapolsky. In his youthful inexperience and naivete, he manages to get kidnapped and become broke, homeless,
and scammed out of money by people falsely claiming they were in need. As with the baboons, for Sapolsky,
adolescence is a rough journey but lessons learned the hard way are an effective means of instilling an
understanding that one s ability to survive depends on an ability to comprehend how one s environment
operates and must be navigated. In the end, lessons learned in adolescence help provide the guidelines and skills
for coping with future challenges that both primates and their descendants are

Sexual Inequality, Disease And Despotism
Despite some of the truths in this quote like the idea that agriculture may have led to sexual inequality, disease
and despotism , agriculture revolution still had an immensely positive impact. Following the creation of
agriculture came a sedentary life style, and these two concepts led to the significant increase in human
population, as it was a more stable approach to living. It is only human nature to want more, want to succeed,

Such a demand called for enhancement in technology and tools. Tools were not a new concept during the
creation of agriculture, yet, with the agrarian age and those to follow came the advancement of tools. Tools
transitioned from the first stone hand axe4 to unique tools specifically for agriculture, such as the plow, and
other tools that had been used since the earliest of times were upgraded. Food storage and systems food
processing became a necessity to these agricultural based societies. Agriculture changed and bettered previously
used tools in a way that wouldn t have been possible without the agrarian world. Following these creations
came the irrigation system. Some societies faced the challenge of flooding spoiling crops. The use of these large
and complex irrigation systems gave them control of the water that raises their crops. Though an irrigation
system wouldn t have been a necessity in a world without agriculture, this system inspired and birthed new
inventions that have aided different aspects of life that humanity could not go with out. Alongside these
advancements came the advancements regarding architecture. As agriculture played the greatest role in
sedentary civilizations, it is also the motive behind the growing interests and improvements in architecture.
Through out the Indus Valley during the third millennium B.C.E. vast ground plans and impressive structures
sprouted.5 The greatest of architectural revelations are remembered though Greek and Roman movements.
These two cities and their architectural expertise played a significant role in art movements. Ancient Rome
revolutionized architecture with unique stonework and their distinct coliseums. Yet, historians first discuss
advancements in architecture following the creation of agriculture. It [agriculture] encouraged the creation of

Rhetoric Of Pericles Funeral Oration
Pericles Funeral Oration Analysis Pericles, as we know, was an exceeding leader and statesmen for most of
Athen s reign during the 5th century B.C.E. He was an extremely successful man, and well rounded in many
aspects of Athenian leadership. He wasn t just a statesman for Athens, he was a persuasive politician, glorified
military leader, and filled with boastful patriotism towards Athens. It was common ritual for speeches to be
given to the survived families of the fallen after war, but Pericles take on the speech was a little different than
the ordinary. Pericles focused greatly on the significance of a democratic government. His goal was to raise the
spirits of the fallen soldiers families , and build patriotism in their hearts to get them motivated to fight for their
freedom in Athens. Pericles was a very persuasive speaker, and his Funeral Oration speech was indeed
successful in its mission: convince the people that the fallen soldiers shouldn t be mourned, but rather raise their
patriotism and to follow in the footsteps of the fallen, and to fight for their honor, freedom, and democracy as a
whole. Pericles speech was not a lie, but rather a persuasive and manipulative speech to capture the fallen
spirits during a tough time of war. The speech wins the people in the crowd over with a sense of pride over
Athens. Their democratic republic was a unique government for their time, and Pericles takes advantage of his
words by proclaiming, Our constitution does not copy the laws of neighbouring states; we are rather a pattern to
others than imitators ourselves. This statement reminds the people of Athens that their community is different
than the surrounding nations, and that they should be proud of where they have gotten. A hint of direction
comes into play, though, when Pericles goes on to say, If we look to the laws, they afford equal justice to all in
their private differences...nor again does poverty bar the way, if a man is able to serve the state, he is not
hindered by the obscurity of his condition. Comparing this statement to the laws of the Spartans, it increases
even further the sense of patriotism that Pericles is trying to raise within the crowd. With the Spartans
government being very

Examples Of Controversial Issues In Shakespeare s Henry IV
Throughout History Shakespeare wrote plays that had controversial issues in them without receiving the wrath
of the queen. In Henry IV, part one, Shakespeare explored some of these issues through the actions of the
characters in the play. There are Scenes where these characters acted with a certain mannerism to either parody
real life royals or to show apparent issues with their current society through the actions of his characters. For
example, the bar scene with Hal and Falstaff. Falstaff, played by William Kemp, was pretending to be Hal s
father, Henry the fourth. Another example of a historical issue portrayed in Shakespeare s play is when Henry
the fourth talks about how he came to power. He and his supporters usurped the throne from the ... Show more

While it is supposed to be a parody when Falstaff is pretending to be Henry the fourth, this is also Shakespeare
poking fun at how the Elites acted during that time. Falstaff is a lovable character which softens the blow to the
real life nobility watching his plays. The reason Shakespeare was able to get away with making a joke out of the
queen s ancestors is because his listened to the comments some of the nobles had or just outsmarted them. In
my first source, Puritanism in Comic History: Exposing Royalty in the Henry Plays , it talks about changes
Shakespeare made to Falstaff to appease some of the current elites. My first source says, Have almost
universally claimed that the name change was the direct result of protests by William Brooke, Lord Cobham,
Oldcastle s powerful defendant (Tiffany 1). Falstaff was originally named Sir John Oldcastle but Shakespeare
had to change it because it offended William Brooke. It also apparently offended a good part of the audience
because the real Oldcastle was a martyr and died as such. Another quote from this source says, The change from
Oldcastle to Falstaff seems to have been motivated... much more... by the displeasure of a significant part of
Shakespeare s audience at his treatment of a hero of their religion (Tiffany 1). This further proves that he made
changes to appease his audience, especially when he was parodying someone who is important to elites and the

Essay The history of video games
In the beginning........
The first real video game was made in 1958, by a physicist named William Higginbotham. It is a table tennis
like game and is played on an oscilloscope, a device used for visual displays. While some big name games,
company s, and events have yet to happen, this is what sparked the video game interest. These paragraphs will
guide you through the many years of games. Lets a go!!
Early years (1961 1972)
Things start off when the first interactive computer game SpaceWars (made in 1961) is visited by the eventual
founders of Atari Nolan Bushnell Ted Dabney attempt to make an arcade version of the game in 1970. In 1971
they succeed, but the public finds it too hard to play. In 1972, a console ... Show more content on

companies Atari will have to compete with. Let s see how long Atari will last.
Hits and misses, plus a crash. (1981 1984)
To start off, we go 1981, the beginning of the first video game magazine, Electronic games, made by Arnie Katz
and Bill Kunkle. 1982 introduces the Atari 5200. The next year is much more eventful. It starts off with a video
game market crash, and several companies go bankrupt. However, there is good news and its name is Nintendo.
The Japanese company is not willing to release the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in America because
Atari rules a large part of the market. Instead, they decide to offer Atari the rights to release the product in the
U.S. The plans fall through and we do not see Nintendo until 1985.
Consoles galore!!! (1985 89)
If the title didn t give it away, there will be a lot of new devices to play on, plus a now game only company that
made a lot of consoles before it went game only will be introduced. So back on the timeline........... We start off
at 1985 where a Russian programmer named Alex Pajitnov makes the popular game, Tetris. As said above, the
NES is released. If you want to play some of its games now, try this link: www.nescafeplay.com/main/

Research Assignment: High Fructose Corn Syrup
BEWARE: HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP As Americans we are certainly used to opening our kitchen
cabinets and having it be filled with endless food choices. To say the least, we are certainly blessed as a country
to be able to have a wide variety. Although the choices are endless, unlike other countries, we are unsure of the
additives that are being put into our foods. One specific food additive that is constantly seen in our labels is
High Fructose Corn Syrup. High Fructose Corn Syrup can be defined as a cheap sweetener that is made from
corn starch in which it is processed by glucose isomerase. This specific additive is currently apart of the top
eleven most controversial food additives. High Fructose Corn Syrup, is being blamed for the obesity epidemic
in the United States of America. I am here to prove through research and personal findings, that this is an
additive that we most avoid. But when it comes to sodas and desserts sweetened with high fructose corn syrup,

United States of America. This is seen through many statistics, one being the fact that we are the number one
country for this usage. The best way High Fructose Corn Syrup can be described was in the article written by

The Patriot Act Through Congress Essay
There is no denying the events occurring on September 11, 2001 changed the world as we knew it. Over 3,000
people lost their lives because of them, and countless others were severely impacted as well. These attacks saw
immediate changes to the way people traveled to, from and in America. Most importantly, these attacks were
deliberate, precisely planned and executed. But by who? Now, before jumping to the automatic assumption that
the 9/11 commision report is completely honest and accurate, please continue reading this essay with an open
mind as I shed light on the fact that United States government was actually behind the whole thing. Thinking
about the government knowing about these attacks and doing nothing about it is sickening. Nobody wants to
believe it, and that makes it all the ever more important. The first thing that may come to mind when trying to
comprehend this idea is, why would the government want to do something like this anyway? One theory
suggests that they needed to push the Patriot Act through congress. The Patriot Act s title is a ten letter
backronym (USA PATRIOT) which stands for Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate
Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001 . It was signed by former President George W.
Bush in October of 2001. Another theory suggests that the United States government needed to justify the
invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003. Nothing fires up patriotism like an attack on our own

Queen Victoria Essay
Queen Victoria Queen Victoria was born in 1819 and died in 1901. She was queen of the United Kingdom of
Great Britain and Ireland (1837 1901) and empress of India (1876 1901). Queen Victoria was born Alexandrina
Victoria on May 24, 1819, in Kensington Palace, London. Victoria s mother was Victoria Mary Louisa,
daughter of the duke of Saxe Coburg Saalfeld. Her father was Edward Augustus, duke of Kent and Strathern,
the fourth son of George III and youngest brother of George IV and William IV; they were kings of Great
Britain. Because William IV had no legal children, his niece Victoria became inheritor apparent to the British
crown upon his accession in 1830. On June 20, 1837, with the expiration of William IV, Victoria became ...

Her post was that the sovereign should at least be consulted on different policy. Palmerston, independent and
self assertive, disregarded the request. Their conflict reached a crucial period in 1851, when the prime minister,
Lord John Russell, who was also unhappy with Palmerston s elective methods, removed him from the foreign
office. Their altercations with Palmerston, one of the most liked political leaders in the country, caused Victoria
and Albert to lose some of the regard of their subjects. Their popularity dwindled even more in 1854, when they
tried to avert the Crimean War. After the war had started, however, they gave it their sincere support. In 1856,
shortly before the end of the war, the queen established the Victoria Cross, the highest British award for
wartime courage. In 1857, Victoria had the title of Prince Associate granted on Albert. Four years later he died,
and she remained in implied grieving for much of the rest of her life. She avoided common appearances, letting
the prince of Wales accomplish most of the royal ritualistic duties. In 1861, several prime ministers served
during the latter part of Victoria s reign, but only the Conservative Party leader Benjamin Disraeli, who held
office in 1868 and from 1874 to 1880, gained her confidence. He ingratiated himself with the queen by his

The Struggle Of Women s Participation
If you are reading this, quite possibly as a woman, your rights may not be what the women who went before
you fought so hard to achieve. As I write to tell you the areas of achievement, please understand that cultural
drift sometimes took a long time to come about given our patriarchal society with values of tradition, order and
obedience. Until the end of the 19th century almost all women would not have thought about challenging
societal norms. You will see that newer values develop in women around freedom, independence and ambition
to have an equal say about their world and their bodies. Some fights would be won and others are still in
progress; these are all very important history lessons that will help you learn how women became able to
participate fully in society, no longer a man s world without women s participation. I will explain just a few of
the courageous women and their tactics and strategies for achieving an egalitarian society where women have
equal opportunities in the realm of voting rights, education, work and birth control. No fight is won alone, each
woman was joined by others who helped including some open minded men. Women were given the right to
vote in 1920 when the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was passed. This was the end to a long battle that
lasted over 70 years. Two brave women Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucrecia Mott, both longtime abolitionists,
organized the first meeting in 1848 to discuss women s issues in New York. At first these

The Mission Of The American Counseling Association ( Aca )
The mission of the American Counseling Association (ACA) According to the Counseling.org website, the
ACA s mission is to enhance the quality of life in society by promoting the development of professional
counselors, advancing the counseling profession, and using the profession and practice of counseling to
promote respect for human dignity and diversity . I interpret this as a wide array of assurances, through
continuing education and enlightenment of counselors, and then the quality of services is improved upon by
dedication. The ACA started out as the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA), and it
originated because so many professional counselors were dissatisfied that they did not fit to the subscription of
contemporary styles of mental health professionals (Palmo, Weikel Borsos, 2006). The advancement of the
counseling profession began when the term professional counselor was recognized as a profession. It continues
to grow through research and theory developments that have proven to positively impact the lives of the client
professional counselors see. How the ACA defines professional counseling The ACA defines professional
counseling as a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to accomplish
mental health, wellness, education, and career goals (ACA, 2010). This is not the first recognized definition of
professional counseling; however, as I understand it in its current state, this is a relationship

The Five Temptation Of A Ceo
Although, I have never been the CEO of a company; The Five Temptation of a CEO by Patrick Lencioni is a
book that gives leadership advice in a way that could be useful for anyone. The book focuses on the new CEO
of a company called, Trinity Systems, Andrew O Brien. The eve of his first board meeting, he stayed at the
office much later than usually. Andrew is facing the results of the company in the year that he had been CEO,
which were unspectacular at best. A majority of the book takes place in an unlikely setting. Andrew is taking a
BART train home where he meets an old man, who seems to be a janitor of some sort. Charlie, the old man,
approaches Andrew to dig into what seems to be bothering him. After a bit of probing, Charlie uncovers
Andrew s struggles with his company. Andrew condescendingly states, I don t know how much you know about
business, but being a CEO is pretty complicated. Charlie offers the opinion that being a CEO is really quite
simple and is all based on avoiding the five temptations of a CEO . Andrew is hesitant to take advice from him;
what could a janitor know about being a CEO? but, humors the man anyway. Charlie initiates his advice by
asking Andrew what he thought was the best day of his career. This question leads to the first temptation:
choosing status over results. Andrew says that the best day of his career was the day he was promoted to CEO.

Anne Frank, Nelson Mandela And Louis Zamperini
After reading many stories about people being incarcerated by their environments, you would think they would
just accept it or give up. Shockingly in many of the stories I ve read the exact opposite happens and they fight
through these tough situations and always manage to stay positive no matter what is thrown at them. Anne
Frank, Nelson Mandela and Louis Zamperini are perfect examples of people who were physically and
emotionally incarcerated and they never let it bring them down. Instead, they used their incarceration as

Strategic Pricing Decisions Within Companies
Strategic pricing decisions within companies
Introduction
Drury (2012) defines strategies as: courses of action designed to ensure that the objectives are achieved . This
definition alone encompasses the importance of developing certain strategy in the early stages of production in
a company; without strategy there is no clear path of how to achieve targets and most likely failure would
follow. In this paper different strategic decisions and processes of pricing will be discussed. The author starts
with exploring the economic model of pricing with evaluating its strengths and weaknesses. Further on, author
looks at pricing from management accounting perspective and illustrates different models of pricing
encompassed by Drury. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pricing model suggests that at the point where marginal revenue equals marginal costs (MR=MC) the goal
is achieved and owner s profits are maximised (Begg et al. 2011). By further investigating the model (see
Figure 1) it is clear the firm wants to produce as much as possible to spread the fixed costs between produced
units and yield a profit. Marginal revenue has to be equal with marginal costs because if the MC MR the cost of
every extra unit produced will be higher than what can be earned for it. Logically the price is set at the quantity
demanded, but bearing in mind the point where MR=MC. And finally, the firm s profit would be the difference
between average costs and the actual price; TR TC=profit. Figure 1 Economic Model of Pricing
1.2 Disadvantages
Although this model is good for understanding the big picture of what companies are trying to achieve and
serves as the base of other economic theories, it has disadvantages. The model involves a lot of assumptions
and is ignoring certain factors. It looks at the firm in short run instead of showing how to add value in order to
survive in the long run; it assumes that every consumer acts in a reasonable manner which sometimes is far
from the real world. Moreover, competition is left out because the model is developed as if the firm has a
monopoly in the market, thus operating in a perfect competition. Additionally the demand is subjective very
hard to actually measure; also companies can manipulate

Newton s 2nd Law: the Law of Proportionality
The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force and inversely proportional to its mass.
This is more readily expressed mathematically:
Here, F = the force on the object (in units of Newtons), m = the object s mass (in kilograms), and a = the
resulting acceleration (in units of meters per second per second, or meters/second2).
Key points: 1. A force that results in an object accelerating is an unbalanced (or net) force. 2. The acceleration is
always in the direction of the net force.

Force: a push or a pull on an object
Mass: a measure of the amount of material in an object; a quantitative measure of

Financial Analysis of the Healthcare Field
Introduction
In the ever changing dynamic of the healthcare industry, it is central to look at financial trends and different
types of financial analysis to capitalize on resources and minimize future impacts. With any growing healthcare
organization it is vital to be aware of one s internal and external environment, the community it serves as well
as the status of the economy. The purpose of this paper is to determine the significance of certain types of
financial analysis, particularly financial ratios, the use of EBITDA and how they influence the healthcare field.
EBITDA, Financial Ratios and growing trends in healthcare EBITDA is an acronym which stands for earnings
before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization and generally used to determine how profitable a
company can be (Brockman, C., Russell, J., 2012). The basic understanding of the EBITDA is defined as the
money the company has made without considering expenses or taxes (Brockman, C., Russell, J., 2012). This
can give a false sense of how much the company is actually making or worth. In a hypothetical situation, a
company creates a product that costs the consumer $10, and 200 are made to meet the projected demand. With
EBITDA, it is assumed there is already a $2000 profit made even if the product is actually never purchased.
EBITDA does not calculate the manufacturing costs, taxes and employee salaries that go into making a product.
Although EBITDA does not seem to measure the actual value of a

nannies leave their hometowns, families and everything behind to work. I can agree with what Cheever
mentioned Here the children are the boss, the children run the home . It s the truth, because in United States
were have lots of working parents who have to leave their children at day cares or after school programs. An
approximate earning for a full time nanny is less than 600 dollars a week. Personally, being a nannie is a huge
responsibility and sometimes extra work comes without extra pay. The sad part about nanny roles is being away
from your own children and just like Dominique s case, the children see her all the time, and the children

Differences Of An Exemplary Citizen
An Exemplary citizen
What does being a good citizen mean exactly? There are many factors that will affect if one is viewed as a one.
Being considered a good citizen will depend on the country as every country is unique and sees some aspects
differently compared to others. The United States of America and China share similarities and differences
through their preamble, constitution, and citizenship. Similarly, these countries use their preamble to create a
broad proposal of what a good citizen is. Both serve as a guide for what their constitution will be discussing as
well. In addition to this each preamble has a part that explains where consent is derived from. Comparably they
both proclaim that the power comes from the people. The United States express the We the People of the United
States statement, whereas China claims that All power in the People s Republic of China belongs to the people.
These words are proof to both countries claim to be a democracy. A functioning democracy is the form of
government that provides its citizens with lots of freedom, opportunity, and prosperity. Meaning that because of
this both groups of people are encouraged to be very involved as the power is coming from them. Although
there are several similarities, differences can be found in the format or structure of the preambles. The United
States preamble is significantly smaller compared to China s. In general, the United States prefer the succinct

Hoplites Into Democracy Analysis
In his 1996 work titled Hoplites into Democrats: The Changing Ideology of Athenian Infantry, Victor Hanson
analyzes the timeline of the Athenian government as it transitions into a democracy and the effect this transition
had on their warfare culture. Throughout the article, Hanson refers to the seventh and sixth century BC as the
normative polis before democracy when the government was timocratical and Athens was an early agrarian
polis; and then continues his article to emphasize the fifth and fourth centuries BC during the political reforms
and the emergence of democracy as the main form of government. Hanson mentions the tensions that arose
between landowners and non landowners as the government transitioned from timocratic to democratic, ...

With continuous war and battles being fought, the Athenian farmers gained profits because of greater
opportunity for theft (301). Hanson pulls from the fragmented works of an anonymous Oxyrhynchus Historian
to support his plundering claim. The historian writes that the Athenian countryside was the most lavishly
furnished in Greece (300). Hanson draws to the conclusion that Attic farmers in the fifth century BC often took
rural property from conquered subjects and then re employed it on their own farms (301). With money being the
new standard of privilege, as stated earlier, farmers utilized the lavish material items they plundered to gain
economic status within their culture. Another policy that Attic farmers enjoyed under democracy was the
introduction of pay for hoplite military service... sometime around the mid fifth century BC (301). Hanson
notes that Athenian farmers were discovering the attractions democracy had to offer (301) since compensation
was nonexistent during agrarian warfare because it was a necessity to fight to save the farm. The burden of
battle shifted between the old regime, where the agrarian community faced battle alone, and the new regime,
where the burden was on the entire polis to fight for each other s land (301). As generations continued, a new
kind of self interested Athenian hoplite became prevalent due to their

Professional Socialization In Nursing
Professional Socialization
Socialization is the process during which people learn the roles, statuses and values necessary for participation
in social institutions. (Dinmohammadi, 2013) This process is life long and begins with learning norms and roles
of a family. It is important to develop a self concept which will continue to grow. As a person gets older you
develop new groups and assume new roles. In turn the person will learn new norms and redefine self concepts.
Professional socialization is only the periodic process of socialization that continues throughout an individual s

So I`ve finally left Quebec and I am currently in Scottsdale, Arizona. However, I felt I needed to do one more
article on Quebec that covers some of the amazing places you need to go and checkout outside of the city. One
of the best ways to check out the countryside is to rent a car or take a tour. Renting a car is nice because it gives
you the choice to decide where you want to go and how long you want to be somewhere. The road signs in

opted for a tour because we liked the structure and didn`t have to worry about getting lost. So without further

My favorite place outside of Quebec city has to be Montmorency Falls. Montmorency Falls are taller than

Abel has never had things easy, from the very beginning Abel was exiled because his father was not part of the

Ultimately, this is the first truly mature thing we see Abel do as he sits with his dying grandfather. He listens to

up for the funereal and ran to go get the priest. The article Symptomatic Autism in Childhood and Adolescence
states the autistic child, is self centered and bases his responses to himself and to the outside world on his own
unique perceptions. This is exactly what Abel did. He thought this is what he should do. He had to get it taken
care of instantly. When the priest tells Abel they will take care of it later Abel is extremely upset by this and
immediately takes off running. Running can be viewed as a way for Abel to relieve tension as people with
Autism must do. Furthermore, many believe Abel s jumpy thoughts to be a cause of war and PTSD but, Easson
states The autistic child lives in the immediate present and has very little concept of the future or past. This
directly relates to Abel in the manner that there is no transition to the flashbacks. It is seemingly all in one time.

Reflection Paper On Therapy
Self Assessment: Therapist For my MFT 507class, I was in a group with Elizabeth and Jaime. We did a vignette
to practice what we have learned in class and imply it in the therapy session. We switched roles and always
treated each other with kindness and respect. I will refer Jaime as Debby, so there will not be any confusion.
Impressions
I learned many things with the vignette we did in class. Active listening is important be cause it helped Debby
see that I was listening and just focusing on her. Also, it gave me the op portunity to clarify any
misunderstanding. The assessment helped me to think critically and find out the reason why Debby came to
therapy. When I was watching the video, I was impressed how easily Debby and I build a bond. I had the same
name as her daughter and that made her feel comfortable. My strength regarding this vignette was how calmly I
talked to Debby. I am able to use verbal and nonverbal behavior. For example, I used ummm to agree with
Debbie, so she can see that I am on the same track as her. This experience makes me see this is the career I want

The researcher chose Bangladesh due to the following reason. Recently, I have worked with the Red Cross refugee program. We have a volunteer who used to be a refugee from Bangladesh. After a difficult time setting up her life, Habiba, now, enjoys her life in NZ and would like to help other refugees. Her story inspired me to do the study about Bangladesh culture. Discussion and Analysis The five cultural dimensions of Bangladesh will be discussed in this report. Each dimension includes three questions. The researcher recorded the answers of the volunteer and analysed them in order to evaluate the cultural values of Bangladesh. These results are compared with Hofstede s theory to have a true and fair view about this culture. 1. Individualism vs Collectivism This dimension determines the culture in the term of I or we . Individualism prefers to the society in which individuals only take care of themselves and their immediate family. In contrast, collectivism prefers to the the society in which people integrate and share good relationships in groups, and expect the unquestioning loyalty. (Hofstede, 1991). Their interests were turned toward commerce rather than art, and Carthage controlled much of the Western trade. In Roman times the Punic beds, cushions, and mattresses were regarded as luxuries, and Punic joinery and furniture were copied. Much of the revenue of Carthage happened to come from its exploitation of the silver mines of North Africa and southern Spain, begun as early as 800 BCE. • 11. Personal Reflection Of Personal Ethics In The Classroom I am one of the numerous amount of students enrolled in your class and most likely, you have no idea who I am. I am hopeful that this letter will apprise you about my personality, work ethic, and other characteristics. When I was younger, I enjoyed being constantly active; whether that be hanging off the couch while watching T.V. or running around my house yelling incoherent phrases to drive my mother insane, I did it all. One day, I stumbled upon a video of a girl teaching the viewer how to do a skill named the back handspring (a skill where you push off from an upright standing position into vertical back onto your feet to complete a full rotation). In awe, it inspired me to attempt it myself, until I realized it took a lot more to flip backwards and expect to land on your hands without falling onto your face. I can recall myself watching a plethora of these varieties of videos in where people demonstrated how to do different certain skills. I would be fascinated by the idea that you can maneuver your body to do tricks that most people would not dare to attempt. Not long after that, I begged to try out and, to my amazement, ended up making it into what would become my gymnastics team. When I first began, I was not prepared for the amount of work that was required of the individual, both physically and mentally. I remember the first practice I attended was one of my most exhausting. Being a newcomer to such an intense sport, it allowed many, many mistakes. The quote said ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout history, a very small amount of women have made their way into myths, and legend as heroes rather they are portrayed as the seductress, or some other secondary character. Even today, we still live in a male dominated society, where women are still being underrepresented, and even misrepresented. While there are many works of art that have women as the main subject, they are often depicted as mothers, victims, sexual beings, or shown as pure, and innocent. We rarely get to see women playing the dominant roles. Holocaust art works are no stranger to this theme. In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting how females are depicted in Spielberg s Schindler s List, and Benigni s Life is Beautiful. While the Oscar nominated movies, Schindler s List and Life is Beautiful, both fail to represent women in the spotlight as main characters, each movie seem to choose different ways and use different techniques to depict women. In Schindler s List, the portrayal of women are the stereotypical passive women quite the opposite to Life is Beautiful where we see more dominant and independent women. It is clear from the beginning that both movies are told from a male perspective. We start off with Schindler s wife, Emilie Schindler, played by Caroline Goodall. In the movie she is portrayed as a filial wife who comes to Germany to be with her womanizing husband. It is easy for our minds to drift away from what we re reading, causing us to lose comprehension of the book. When working with children, it is important for them to comprehend the books they read. Although a child may say a book was good or they liked that particular book, did they fully comprehend what they read? To be certain whether children comprehend what they are reading, teachers use retellings in order to evaluate their reading performance. Retellings are truly the reader s creation of meaning. A retelling is a way of assessing and evaluating students memories, reactions, and understandings of their reading (2000). These activities are important because it is a way of evaluating the quality of students comprehension. When teachers evaluate students retelling, they are measuring the reader s construction of meaning. During these evaluations, teachers are looking to see if students cite specific story elements from the text, such as the characters, plot, setting, resolution, and theme, if their retelling was sequential (beginning, middle, and end), if the student made inferences to fill in the missing information, and if they are making connections to the story. Teachers also evaluate whether the student omitted any information, such as main ideas, details to support main ideas, evidence of inferential thinking, and key vocabulary to understanding ... These four parts detail the stages of both his research of the behavior of a troop of African baboons and his unintentional research of human behavior as to himself through his encounters and experiences as a young researcher in Kenya, Africa for the first time. Sapolsky names the four parts of his book to describe the four stages of a baboon s growth. Ultimately, these parts also reflect Sapolsky s personal growth and transformation as he journeys through Africa and studies the baboon troop. Since, at the outset of his research, the baboons he will study seem to be around this age, Part 1 is labeled The Adolescent Years . As he is both a rather naïve and untested young man as well as a new researcher on his first trip to Kenya, these are also adolescent years for Sapolsky. In his youthful inexperience and naivete, he manages to get kidnapped and become broke, homeless, and scammed out of money by people falsely claiming they were in need. As with the baboons, for Sapolsky, adolescence is a rough journey but lessons learned the hard way are an effective means of instilling an understanding that one s ability to survive depends on an ability to comprehend how one s environment operates and must be navigated. • 22. Rhetoric Of Pericles Funeral Oration Pericles Funeral Oration Analysis Pericles, as we know, was an exceeding leader and statesmen for most of Athen s reign during the 5th century B.C.E. He was an extremely successful man, and well rounded in many aspects of Athenian leadership. He wasn t just a statesman for Athens, he was a persuasive politician, glorified military leader, and filled with boastful patriotism towards Athens. It was common ritual for speeches to be given to the survived families of the fallen after war, but Pericles take on the speech was a little different than the ordinary. Pericles focused greatly on the significance of a democratic government. His goal was to raise the spirits of the fallen soldiers families , and build patriotism in their hearts to get them motivated to fight for their freedom in Athens. Pericles was a very persuasive speaker, and his Funeral Oration speech was indeed successful in its mission: convince the people that the fallen soldiers shouldn t be mourned, but rather raise their patriotism and to follow in the footsteps of the fallen, and to fight for their honor, freedom, and democracy as a whole. Pericles speech was not a lie, but rather a persuasive and manipulative speech to capture the fallen spirits during a tough time of war. The speech wins the people in the crowd over with a sense of pride over Athens. Their democratic republic was a unique government for their time, and Pericles takes advantage of his words by proclaiming, Our constitution does not copy the laws of neighbouring states; we are rather a pattern to others than imitators ourselves. This statement reminds the people of Athens that their community is different than the surrounding nations, and that they should be proud of where they have gotten. A hint of direction comes into play, though, when Pericles goes on to say, If we look to the laws, they afford equal justice to all in their private differences...nor again does poverty bar the way, if a man is able to serve the state, he is not hindered by the obscurity of his condition. Comparing this statement to the laws of the Spartans, it increases even further the sense of patriotism that Pericles is trying to raise within the crowd. With the Spartans government being very ... • 32. The Mission Of The American Counseling Association ( Aca ) The mission of the American Counseling Association (ACA) According to the Counseling.org website, the ACA s mission is to enhance the quality of life in society by promoting the development of professional counselors, advancing the counseling profession, and using the profession and practice of counseling to promote respect for human dignity and diversity . I interpret this as a wide array of assurances, through continuing education and enlightenment of counselors, and then the quality of services is improved upon by dedication. The ACA started out as the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA), and it originated because so many professional counselors were dissatisfied that they did not fit to the subscription of contemporary styles of mental health professionals (Palmo, Weikel Borsos, 2006). The advancement of the counseling profession began when the term professional counselor was recognized as a profession. It continues to grow through research and theory developments that have proven to positively impact the lives of the client professional counselors see. How the ACA defines professional counseling The ACA defines professional counseling as a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals (ACA, 2010). This is not the first recognized definition of professional counseling; however, as I understand it in its current state, this is a relationship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. The Five Temptation Of A Ceo Although, I have never been the CEO of a company; The Five Temptation of a CEO by Patrick Lencioni is a book that gives leadership advice in a way that could be useful for anyone. The book focuses on the new CEO of a company called, Trinity Systems, Andrew O Brien. The eve of his first board meeting, he stayed at the office much later than usually. Andrew is facing the results of the company in the year that he had been CEO, which were unspectacular at best. A majority of the book takes place in an unlikely setting. Andrew is taking a BART train home where he meets an old man, who seems to be a janitor of some sort. Charlie, the old man, approaches Andrew to dig into what seems to be bothering him. After a bit of probing, Charlie uncovers Andrew s struggles with his company. Andrew condescendingly states, I don t know how much you know about business, but being a CEO is pretty complicated. Charlie offers the opinion that being a CEO is really quite simple and is all based on avoiding the five temptations of a CEO . Andrew is hesitant to take advice from him; what could a janitor know about being a CEO? but, humors the man anyway. Charlie initiates his advice by asking Andrew what he thought was the best day of his career. This question leads to the first temptation: choosing status over results. Andrew says that the best day of his career was the day he was promoted to CEO. According the first temptation, he was already failing. Charlie uses the example of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Anne Frank, Nelson Mandela And Louis Zamperini After reading many stories about people being incarcerated by their environments, you would think they would just accept it or give up. Shockingly in many of the stories I ve read the exact opposite happens and they fight through these tough situations and always manage to stay positive no matter what is thrown at them. Anne Frank, Nelson Mandela and Louis Zamperini are perfect examples of people who were physically and emotionally incarcerated and they never let it bring them down. Instead, they used their incarceration as motivation to better the situation they were in. Reading many of the poems in class really gives you a sense of how a person is feeling in such little words. It describes the environment around them, how they are dealing with is and what their thoughts are on it. A poem I feel does incredibly well with this this Some Advice to Those Who Will Serve Time in Prison . This poem describes a man in prison with a lot of time to serve and how he feels about it. He describes prison as making him start to lose himself and how much it really affects his outlook on life. Prison makes him feel powerless and like he has no control of his life because he can t make decisions for himself anymore. He can t control when he eats, showers or even when he wakes up in the morning, basically the only thing he can control is how he deals with this new way of life. Strategic Pricing Decisions Within Companies Strategic pricing decisions within companies Introduction Drury (2012) defines strategies as: courses of action designed to ensure that the objectives are achieved . This definition alone encompasses the importance of developing certain strategy in the early stages of production in a company; without strategy there is no clear path of how to achieve targets and most likely failure would follow. In this paper different strategic decisions and processes of pricing will be discussed. The author starts with exploring the economic model of pricing with evaluating its strengths and weaknesses. Further on, author looks at pricing from management accounting perspective and illustrates different models of pricing encompassed by Drury. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pricing model suggests that at the point where marginal revenue equals marginal costs (MR=MC) the goal is achieved and owner s profits are maximised (Begg et al. 2011). By further investigating the model (see Figure 1) it is clear the firm wants to produce as much as possible to spread the fixed costs between produced units and yield a profit. Marginal revenue has to be equal with marginal costs because if the MC MR the cost of every extra unit produced will be higher than what can be earned for it. Logically the price is set at the quantity demanded, but bearing in mind the point where MR=MC. And finally, the firm s profit would be the difference between average costs and the actual price; TR TC=profit. Figure 1 Economic Model of Pricing 1.2 Disadvantages Although this model is good for understanding the big picture of what companies are trying to achieve and serves as the base of other economic theories, it has disadvantages. The model involves a lot of assumptions and is ignoring certain factors. It looks at the firm in short run instead of showing how to add value in order to survive in the long run; it assumes that every consumer acts in a reasonable manner which sometimes is far from the real world. Moreover, competition is left out because the model is developed as if the firm has a monopoly in the market, thus operating in a perfect competition. Additionally the demand is subjective very hard to actually measure; also companies can manipulate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Financial Analysis of the Healthcare Field Introduction In the ever changing dynamic of the healthcare industry, it is central to look at financial trends and different types of financial analysis to capitalize on resources and minimize future impacts. With any growing healthcare organization it is vital to be aware of one s internal and external environment, the community it serves as well as the status of the economy. The purpose of this paper is to determine the significance of certain types of financial analysis, particularly financial ratios, the use of EBITDA and how they influence the healthcare field. EBITDA, Financial Ratios and growing trends in healthcare EBITDA is an acronym which stands for earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization and generally used to determine how profitable a company can be (Brockman, C., Russell, J., 2012). The basic understanding of the EBITDA is defined as the money the company has made without considering expenses or taxes (Brockman, C., Russell, J., 2012). This can give a false sense of how much the company is actually making or worth. In a hypothetical situation, a company creates a product that costs the consumer $10, and 200 are made to meet the projected demand. With EBITDA, it is assumed there is already a $2000 profit made even if the product is actually never purchased. EBITDA does not calculate the manufacturing costs, taxes and employee salaries that go into making a product. Although EBITDA does not seem to measure the actual value of a ... With continuous war and battles being fought, the Athenian farmers gained profits because of greater opportunity for theft (301). Hanson pulls from the fragmented works of an anonymous Oxyrhynchus Historian to support his plundering claim. The historian writes that the Athenian countryside was the most lavishly furnished in Greece (300). Hanson draws to the conclusion that Attic farmers in the fifth century BC often took rural property from conquered subjects and then re employed it on their own farms (301). With money being the new standard of privilege, as stated earlier, farmers utilized the lavish material items they plundered to gain economic status within their culture. Another policy that Attic farmers enjoyed under democracy was the introduction of pay for hoplite military service... sometime around the mid fifth century BC (301). Hanson notes that Athenian farmers were discovering the attractions democracy had to offer (301) since compensation was nonexistent during agrarian warfare because it was a necessity to fight to save the farm. The burden of battle shifted between the old regime, where the agrarian community faced battle alone, and the new regime, where the burden was on the entire polis to fight for each other s land (301).
