Effective Tips to Take Care of
Sensitive Teeth
Sensitive teeth cause problems like
sudden and severe pain every time you
eat or drink anything cold or hot, and if
left untreated, they can stop you from
brushing and flossing properly, leading
to more sensitivity, decay, infection,
and even tooth, gum and bone loss.

Worn enamel or loose teeth can be caused
due to the habit of tooth grinding, or
aggressive tooth brushing.

Tooth erosion may be caused due to highly
acidic food and beverages like alcohol, hot
drinks, carbonated drinks, etc.
Let’s have a look at the factors that cause
Sensitive Teeth

The margin of the gum tissue wears away,
exposing the tooth root. It is called gum
recession and it creates sensation in the
tooth while eating or drinking.

Tooth decay may be caused by germs in your
mouth that dine at your teeth, eating away
the enamel and causing a hole called a
cavity.

Some dental procedures,such as bleaching
and placing restorations, may lead to short-
term sensitivity too.
Tips For Relieving Sensitive Teeth

Choose the Right Brush & Toothpaste: Use a
soft-bristled brush as it will be better on
your gums. Also, brush your teeth at least
twice daily. Make sure to change out your
toothbrush every three months or so. It will
help keep your teeth healthy.

Acid erodes tooth enamel. Limiting the
intake of acidic food and drinks such as
oranges, pickles, sticky candy, red wine, etc.,
can help in preventing sensitive teeth. They
produce acid in your mouth. Use a straw for
the intake of these high-on-acids and sugar
drinks and, brush your teeth at least 2
minutes after their consumption.

Eat Healthy Snacks: Also, you can snack on
fiber-rich fruits & vegetables such as cheese,
milk and plain yogurt that will moisten your
mouth and help fight acid and bacteria
thereby neutralizing the effects of acidic
substance.

Some people have sensitive teeth because
they have a habit of grinding their teeth at
night. They may not know it, but they will
do it. This constant force against each other
causes erosion to the teeth, and it will also
loosen the teeth from the jaw. In such cases,
wearing a mouth guard at night helps
protect your teeth.

Use fluoride rinse and floss your teeth
everyday. Fluoride helps prevent tooth
decay by making the tooth more resistant to
acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars
in the mouth. Rinsing with a fluoride
mouthwash once daily can decrease
sensitivity.

Home remedies can also be helpful for
treating sensitive teeth. Salt water is one
such solution. Rinsing your mouth with a
solution of salt and warm water will create
an alkaline environment in the mouth
which helps eliminate the bacteria and thus
relieves the pain.
Sensitive teeth can bring a great deal of
discomfort and oral problems may be a huge
problem if not treated in time. So, stop
ignoring the call of your sensitive teeth and
go make an appointment with your dentist
because taking care of your teeth will bring
comfort to your mind.
Thank You.
