Tropical rainforests are located around the world in central and south America, western Africa, eastern Madagascar, and the Zaire basin. Temperate rainforests exist along the Pacific coast of North America and in parts of Chile, the UK, and Norway. Rainforests help regulate global weather patterns and rainfall through evaporation. They contain a diversity of plants like mosses, ferns, and epiphytes as well as many animal species. However, thirty trees are cut down in tropical rainforests every minute, threatening these important ecosystems that provide oxygen, absorb carbon dioxide, and supply food, medicine, timber and other resources to people.
2. Location
There are two types of rainforests biomes: temperate and tropical rainforests, the largest temperate
rainforests are on pacific coast in north America stretching from Alaska to Oregon.
Other temperatae rainforests are found along the coast of Chile, The United Kingdom, Norway....
Tropical rainforests can be found around the world; in central and south America; in westerm Africa, easterm
Madagascar, and the Zaire basin.
3. Weather
Rainforests are important because they help maintain global weather patterns and rain. Water that
evaporates from trees falls in other areas as rain.
There are two types:
Tropical rainforests:Are rainy and warm all year long, the average
temperature is 21ºC to 30ºC.
Temperate rainforests:Are cooler and drier than tropical
rainforests.
4. Plants
One types of plant often found in a rainforests is the common epiphyte: in temperate rainforests
common epiphytes are mosses and ferns.
6. People and the rainforests
Rainforests are important because they produce oxygen, take carbon dioxide, food, medicine, timber,
travel and more. Spices: Vainilla, cacao, cassava, banana, black pepper.... thirty trees are cut in
tropical rainforests every minute.
