Management Environment
Please describe your managed environment (provide a picture if available)
• If using EM 12c, did you upgrade or start with a fresh install? Please explain:
– Fresh installs. I am often working with Exadata and BP1 upgrades were challenging. I prefer a clean
installation and proponent of health checks through each step of the implementation.
• How many EM environments do you have? If more than one, please explain why?
– I have six that I maintain as the primary DBA for the client and have another 10 or so as the main
technical resource for my company.
– My company is a consultant firm that manages multiple clients and many desire their own EM12c.
• Number of managed targets and their versions:
– Anywhere from 60-1200 targets for each of my clients.
• Deployment configuration for EM: (number/size of OMS and OMR servers, number/platform of agents,
if using a DR/HA, how is it implemented?)
– This is massive, but I do have Linux, Sun and Windows OMS and I have targets that are Linux, Sun, Windows,
HP-UX.

Management Environment (cont.)
Please describe your managed environment (provide a picture if available)
• Other systems integrated with EM in production (other mgmt software, ticketing, etc.)
– I’m currently working to integrate more into the EM12c environment, (BI Publisher, APEX, etc.).
• What key EM functionality do you currently use? What does it help you achieve?
– Monitoring, performance tuning, backup, cloning, EM Jobs to replace all cron activity.
• What future EM functionality do plan to utilize in the next year?
– More metric extensions to offer more defined alerting on BI Publisher, web transaction mangement.

What are the top five things you like about EM 12c?
• The “self-service” aspect of the product.
• The ability to use the incident manager as a pro-active
monitoring tool for warning alerts vs. email “white noise”.
• ASH Analytics, ADDM new features.
• EM Jobs to replace old job management systems.
• EMCLI, the command line offers power to the DBA to
script and build out what wasn’t possible before.

Pain Points
What are the five biggest pain points you’ve encountered with EM 12c?
• Patching the EM12c should be as easy as the patch plans for any
other system. Almost requires a second EM12c to create.
• That many think it’s out of the box ready, not realizing the setup
requirements.
• Windows deployment for agents- SIMPLIFY THIS.
• EM Job management- problem jobs can be difficult to
manage/reschedule.
• No global library for metric extensions.

Key Improvements
What are your top requests for product improvements in 2014? Why are
they important to you?
• EMCLI documentation needs to be improved upon.
• EM Job migration utility- needed for those with jobs.
• Address bugs more effectively before release- too many
releases in short time due to this.
• Improve the Windows deployment feature for agents.
• Stop letting people think that not having an “all green”
status summary is normal… 
