Use Of Hypnosis And Medical Practice
The Use of Hypnosis in Medical Practice
A literature review
Ashley Gowty 10207287
For centuries hypnosis was far from being part of the scientific world. But in the last couple of
decades its reputation has moved from that of cult practise to a highly recognised psychological
practice. Recently there has been an emerging trend using hypnosis in a physiological manner; this
review will look at how hypnosis is currently being used in the medical field. Looking at what exactly
hypnosis is and its therapeutic uses, it s use as a treatment for pain relief and reflecting on how
hypnotizable the general population is.
The literature reviewed is generally definitive in the nature of hypnosis. Bryant and Mabbutt (2006, p.
12) describe it as ... a state of mind connected to deep relaxation, narrowed focus, and increased
suggestibility. They also suggest that Hypnosis is an intermediate state between sleep and
wakefulness. Bryant and Mabbutt s description is echoed by Cyna, McAuliffe, Andrew who apply the
use of hypnosis to the clinical setting (hypnotherapy) and suggest that it is used to to achieve specific
therapeutic goals such as the alleviation of pain or anxiety. (Cyna, McAuliffe, Andrew, 2004). Staff at
The Mayo Clinic extend upon the defination of hypnosis by stating that Hypnosis is intended to help
you gain more control over undesired behaviours or emotions or to help you cope better with a wide
range of medical conditions. (Staff, 2009). They continue by

Civil War Reconstruction Dbq Essay
During the time period of 1860 and 1877 many major changes occurred. From the beginning of the
civil war to the fall of the reconstruction, the United States changed dramatically. Nearly one hundred
years after the Declaration of Independence which declared all men equal, many social and
constitutional alterations were necessary to protect the rights of all people, no matter their race. These
social and constitutional developments that were made during 1860 to 1877 were so drastic it could be
called a revolution.
The election of Abraham Lincoln and the secession of the South led to the outbreak of the civil war.
The civil war was the first revolutionary change in America. States rights were a major issue during
this time. Issues of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When blacks were given the right to vote, it was only somewhat successful. Many blacks did use their
new political power to vote as it is shown in Harper s Weekly (Document G), but whites still tried to
stop them. Literacy tests, grandfather clauses, and fear caused by the Ku Klux Klan were used to keep
blacks from exercising their right to vote. Another issue of reconstruction was the banking and
currency system. In an attempt to uniform the currency, Senator John Sherman gave a speech saying
that with a currency and a medium of exchange, we shall have a broader and more generous
nationality (Document B). At the time many states had their own currency and a change needed to be
made to unite the states. A sense of nationality was needed as the nation was in turmoil after the
attempted secession of the South. Reconstruction came to an end in 1877 with the Compromise of
1877. Rutherford Hayes became president for agreeing to end federal support for Southern
Republicans and building a transcontinental railroad. In this compromise he also withdrew troops
from the South. This, along with the rejection of laws protecting blacks from discrimination, brought
reconstruction to an end in 1877.
Many social changes occurred during the time from 1860 to 1877. In the history of the United States,
blacks had been viewed as less than equal to whites. This was clearly shown through the three fifths
compromise which counted slaves as less than an actual

The Similarities Between The Middle And Upper Class In...
From 1837 to 1901 is known as the Victorian period in England. Victorian times were often referred to
as the best of times and the worst of times, giving it an interesting dichotomy. During this time period
there was tremendous growth in the English economy and in education, but there was also rampant
child labor and many other crimes. While the economy growth almost entirely benefitted the middle
and upper class it did help skilled workers of the working class, but left the unskilled workers living
hand to mouth and being forced to have their children work in dangerous factories to help pay for
food. The morality of these times was blind at best and hypocritical at worst, because while the
common morality was to have honor and such it was a common practice at factories to exploit workers
to degrees that are almost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The similarities comprise of that the upper class has access to unbelievable luxuries and control large
amounts of wealth, and the middle class has more opportunities than the lower class. While the lower
class is still struggling to make ends meet. The main differences are because of modern conveniences
and welfare states that lets the upper class enjoy greater luxuries and for the middle class to get closer
to the upper class. The lower class even though they struggle to make ends meet they still have a far
better lot in life than those in Victorian England. In Victorian England ones class did affect what kind
of job you could get. If you were upper class you could essentially do whatever you wished, and if you
were middle class you had lots of room for improvement. Lower class had a more confined job pool
and as such it would be incredibly difficult to get out of lower class. France before and during its
many revolutions was just like Victorian England and as such it had the exact same class problems
that were only exacerbated by the many bloody

The Importance Of The Black Land In Jamaica
WHY THE STATUE OF CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS MUST COME DOWN IN JAMAICA
Travel across the globe and you will find no shortage of monuments and statues paying homage to
those who have made significant contribution to society or to their individual nations.
In Kemet The Black Land also known as Egypt, you will find one the oldest monument on earth.
Sitting on the west bank of the Nile in Gaza, is the Great Sphinx of Giza, a symbol of our African
greatness. Looking down on Parliament Square in London is Nelson Mandela, the anti apartheid
revolutionary. In Barbados you have Bussa, the national hero who led the great slave revolt in 1816.
His statue symbolizes the breaking of the chains of slavery. Swing over to Guyana and you will see
the national hero, Kofi, a man stolen from Ghana, enslaved in Guyana and later became liberator and
leader of the 1763 slave revolt. Then there is Gaspar Yanga, the African national hero of Mexico,
leader and liberator of the Maroon of Mexico, and the list goes on.
In Jamaica we have our own fleet of monuments and statues, a proud representation of our own
history, culture and achievements. Historically, Jamaicans are a proud, strong willed people known to
the world as freedom fighters, revolutionaries even trend setters. Going all the way back to 18 century
Jamaica and you will see the Maroons led by Nanny and her brothers fighting and standing up to
Europeans powers. In the second Maroon war of 1795, 300 Maroons stood their ground against 1500

brain in some cases. It does not just merely change hormone levels. Yoga is able to increase the size of
the brain in the elderly. For several decades, scientist believe brain damage to be quite permanent. The
brain usually can rewire itself to function more efficiently. However, very rarely has it essentially

Medical Errors And Health Care
Every day, millions of people enter some type of health care facility seeking medical treatment. They
go to these places because they trust the physicians, nurses, and all other medical personnel are there
to provide them with adequate, quality care with hopes that they will be discharged in a healthier state.
Inadvertently, each day millions of people entering these facilities and experiencing more
complications than expected due to some type of medical error. Medical errors are becoming more and
more frequent every day and its costing patients more than ever. Medical errors have become one of
the major focuses of the health care industry since the Institute of Medicine released its report in the
year 1999, The Err Is Human. During that time there was an estimated ninety eight thousand people
dying a year in hospitals due to medical errors. Naturally this struck fear into people and caused many
to question a lot of things being done in health care facilities. According to more recent studies, it has
been noted that as many four hundred and forty four thousand people die each year from a preventable
medical error. That is only the death toll as a result of a medical error, not the actual number of
individuals that endure a medical error each year. With statistic numbers like these, health care
facilities are sacrificing large numbers of patients that equal out to the number people within fairly
large cities and states. With this number of people dying alone as a result of

Maria Ordered Supplies From Ftc Enterprises
11. Maria ordered supplies from FTC enterprises. Bob, the owner of FTC enterprises, sent a credit
application form to Maria. A couple of days later, Maria sent back the credit application with a
signature that appeared to be under her name. Bob shipped the supplies thereafter awaiting Maria s
payments which never came. Bob later sued Maria for payment collection, but Maria denied ever
signing the paperwork and claimed that all credit documents were referred to her receptionist. Is Maria
liable?
In this case Maria is considered as a disclosed principal and Maria s receptionist is her agent. A
disclosed principal is defined as a principal whose identity is known by a third party (Clarkson, 2015,
p 644). FTC being the third party in this situation, recognizes Maria as a principal and recognized her
receptionist as an extension of Maria s authority. By referring credit documents and inquiries to her
receptionist, Maria is granting her receptionist implied authority to process credit documents on her
behalf (Clarkson, 2015, p. 643). Therefore, Maria will be held liable regardless of whether or not she
was aware of her receptionist s actions.

College Football Stadium Sponsorship
The discussion of corporate sponsorships for college football stadium naming is a topic that is often
discussed, but not so easily acted upon. There have been various studies constructed to attempt at
understanding the phenomenon of what is the lag of universities partaking in what could be considered
as an opportunity. In literature it is very important to understand all the concepts and issues that take
part in making a decision as such. A current trend found throughout all literature is the perception and
view of the fans. The gap existing within the literature is discovering the actual reason why a
university should or should not partake in such an opportunity. A trend often found is researchers

(merriam Webster) defines a tradition as an inherited, established or customary pattern of thought,
action, or behavior (as a religious practice or a social custom). In relation to these traditions most of
them take place near or at a stadium where you can locate a sense of community. Research has also
shown that social spaces (football stadiums) are prominent in creating unity within a community or
school (Warner: shaping Community on Campus). So yes the traditions and venues and names of these
venues must all contribute to fit in the community. With this in mind traditions can all get lost when a
corporation comes in and decides to name the venue (Boyd 2000). Maintaining traditions have been
shown to be valuable and changing the name of something historic could ruin the prestige of said
facility and result in outrage (Snider, Rysen). A example of this is when the GEO Group, a
multinational corporation that runs prisons, pledged $6 million for the naming rights to Florida
Atlantic Universities stadium. The fans were upset and did not agree and decided to protest. The
university administrators listened to the fans as they expressed their feelings to preserve the history of
Coach Howard whom the field is named after (GEO Group Article). Today the stadium is named FAU
stadium representing the university as a whole. This facility is considered the location where they are
able to establish a sense of community and come together. In other words it is a name and a place that
people can return to and have a homecoming (boyd 2000) The distinctiveness will remain and will

Top Five Superheroes Who Will Never Get A Movie!
Superhero movies are gold to Hollywood right now... well except maybe to Fox... and it really looks
like every character is from Marvel and DC s publishing history are being considered for animated or
film projects. I mean, did you ever think there was going to be an Aquaman movie outside of
Entourage?
That being said, there are a few characters that will never get their own film. Here s our top five.
Number Five: Matter Eater Lad
A member of the Legion of Super Heroes, Matter Eater Lad has the great power to eat anything. In the
comics, Keith Giffen actually managed to make this work and focused on other aspects of the
character but we still have a hard time believing we will ever see the tag line You Will Believe A Boy

And if this didn t sound bad enough, his villains include the likes of Instant Replay, an assassin that

Number Three: Brother Power The Geek
This may be a controversial choice as many comic book writers have a fondness for Brother Power
but at the end of the day, Brother Power is a mannequin in used hippy clothes brought to life by
lightning. We ve already got an awesome mannequin movie starring Kim Cattral... called
Mannequin... it was released in 1987... yeah, we re old.
Number Two: Doorman
Having the ability to create doors to somewhere else is a pretty awesome power. Creating doors to
another adjoining room... not so much. Doorman is a member of Marvel s Great Lake Avengers and he
has the ability to teleport... into the next room. Essentially he s great if you re sitting down to watch a
movie or the game and you forgot to grab the chips from the kitchen.

The Importance Of Youth Sports
Kids love playing sports, and physical activity both provides health benefits and builds character
through being part of a team. However, in many cases, sports can also bring many hardships upon
children and their families. The increasing talent level in professional and collegiate athletics is
causing young athletes to participate in higher levels of sports than are healthy for their developing
bodies. This intensification and specialization of youth sport is causing an abundance of physical and
mental injuries to children and in many cases, the over training causes them to lose love for their
sport. The effects of these injuries may also cause many complications later in life such as CTE and
operations to replace damaged joints and tendons.
The way in which children participate in sports has changed drastically. Playing a variety of sports for
the sake of fun and love of the game, has evolved into extreme training and specialization in a single
sport in attempt to be able to perform adequately at the next level. In the united states alone, the
number of children younger than six on an organized sports team, the number of traveling leagues for
seven and eight year olds, the percentage of specialized high school athletes, and the number of young
olympians, have all risen over the last 15 years (3 ?). It is commonly argued that this change in
philosophy is necessary to propel young athletes to the next level. However, there is also substantial
evidence showing that

Body Dysmorphic Disorders
In our contemporary Western society, body image has become an obsession. In any advertisement,
shop window, magazine, movie, social media, there are strong suggestions on the way we should look
to be trendy, cool, and desirable. Without emphasizing the increasing popularity of plastic surgery, the
amount of money, time, and effort that people spent on fashion, skin care creams, makeup, lotions, and
hair products, indicate how deeply this culture pursues beauty. At the same time, there is a great deal
of data that suggest how body image is experienced negatively by countless men and women. To some
extent, dissatisfaction with our own appearance affects everybody in life and it might be a common
form of response to the imposed sociocultural standards of beauty. However, having Body
Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is utterly different from common discontent. Individuals diagnosed with
BDD experiences an emotionally painful obsession with perceived flaws in some part of their body.

this criterion, Phillips (1996) suggests that the fixation should be present for a minimum of an hour a
day (as cited in Veale and Neziroglu, 2010, p.6). Another relevant criterion is the presence of some
repetitive behaviors, such as mirroring checking, excessive grooming, skin picking, reassurance
seeking. In addition, the preoccupation must cause clinically significant distress or impairment in
social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning, and it cannot be better accounted for an

Sickle Cell Is A Disease
Sickle Cell is a disease that you hear about, but not as often as you should. It is an inherited disease,
the name derives from the red cells in the blood of sufferers and they take on the shape on a sickle
(crescent shape). Another name for sickle cell is sickle cell anemia, because in some cases people
become anemic. With this disease comes low levels of hemoglobin, which is the red substance in your
blood that contains iron and carries oxygen. Due to the irregular shaped cells this can cause blockage
and prevent normal blood flow, this prevents the cells carrying oxygen around the body properly.
Shortage of oxygen can lead to damage that can occur in almost just about any organ in the body.
Sickle cell is found more often in African Americans. It is said that the disease originated from Africa
and most common in West Africa.
As far as treatment is concerned thankfully progression in modern science and medicine these last ten
years have brought greatly improved techniques. One of the first forms of treatment is nitric oxide.
Nitric oxide is a gas that scientists have tested on mice. This has been found to prevent the
dehydration of the cells and the hemoglobin formation of sickle rods. The second possibility is blood
transfusions. Transfusions are essential when dealing with severe cases of the

How Do Earnings Numbers Relate to Stock Returns? A Review of Classic Accounting Research with
Updated Evidence
D. Craig Nichols and James M. Wahlen
SYNOPSIS: An extensive body of academic research in accounting develops theory and empirical
evidence on the relation between earnings information and stock returns. This literature provides
important insights for understanding the relevance of financial reporting. In this article, we summarize
the theory and evidence on how accounting earnings information relates to firms’ stock returns,

We use the updated empirical analysis to assess the extent to which the findings in three seminal
papers still hold, and provide some additional results that do not appear in the original work. This
paper can serve as a resource for those interested in a deeper appreciation for the capital market
consequences associated with accounting earnings. We organize this review using the three theoretical
links between earnings and share prices developed by Beaver (1998). These “three links” are: 1)
current period earnings provides information to predict future periods’ earnings, which 2) provide
information to develop expectations about dividends in future periods, which 3) provide information
to determine share value, which represents the present value of expected future dividends. We describe
how this theoretical structure provides a practical framework for analyzing and understanding the
valuation implications of earnings information in the capital market. We then provide empirical
evidence on the relation between earnings and stock returns by extending three classic studies using
data from 1988 through 2002. Our first set of empirical results provides evidence on links 1–3 by

Vatican Cremation Research Paper
Ashes of cremated individuals should not be scattered, kept at home, or turned into jewelry as these
could constitute grounds for being denied a Christian funeral, according to a new Vatican ruling.
Although the Vatican prefers burial over cremationfor Catholics, a new decree authorized by Pope
Francis said the ashes of the cremated body should be stored either in a church or a cemetery. The
ruling also suggested that those who insist on scattering the ashes of their departed loved ones should
be denied a Christian funeral, The Times reports.
Since the 1970s, the number of cremations after death in the UK has more than doubled to 400,000

The ashes of the faithful must be laid to rest in a sacred place, that is in a cemetery or, in certain cases,
in a church or an area which has been set aside for this purpose, the Vatican said in its ruling.
In addition, the Vatican ruled against storing the ashes of the departed at home, dividing them among
family members, and other rituals that are not linked the Catholic faith. This includes scattering of the
ashes and preserving them in mementos and other forms.
Earlier this year, DesiringGod.org founder Pastor John Piper wrote a blog entry explaining why
Christians should bury instead of cremate their dead. However, he clarified that he aims to persuade
believers to lean toward burial as a preference rather than a command, The Christian Post relays.
Citing Philippians 1:20, Piper said Christians should glorify God through their body both in life and
death and that the body should be treated as God s dwelling place. However, he cautioned against

Jade Stones nephrite are a mineral composed of magnesium, iron, and silicate of calcium. Usually,
they are formed through extreme heat and pressure known as metamorphism. Surprisingly, it can be

Colored People in Jazz by Toni Morrison
Toni Morrison chose the title Jazz of this book because jazz symbolize increasing complex styles and
that fits in the title because of the parts that happened throughout the story. It also symbolizes
movement because jazz is fast pace music and fast dancing so that is another reason why Toni
Morrison picked the title of this book. It was a lot of movement in the book with some of the main
characters in the story and their movement was fast just like jazz. I believe she also picked this title
because jazz also means honest, benevolent, brilliant, and full of high inspirations and that is what
some of the characters showed in the story. The meaning jazz can also tie into the story because some
of them showed a control over others affairs. The sitting and genre of this novel takes place in Virginia
during the Harlem Renaissance in the early mid 1900 s. Basically most of the events in the story took
place on a street called Lenox Ave. I can tell that this street of Virginia has a lot of excitement and is
always busy. Everybody knows everyone business. The people in Virginia very friendly too during
this time period. One of the main characters have a lot of friends that she can go to for information
about people around the neighborhood. Just like any other television show or movie from the early
1900s in the black neighborhoods every female can always go to the beauty shop to get the latest dirt

In Individuals, Insanity
The term nationalism refers to loyalty of an individual or a group to a nation. This term is primarily
used when referring to a group which has extreme love for their own country but hatred for others;
these people can go to any extent for the sake of protecting their country. Friedrich Nietzsche
explained this as In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the
rule.
According to Karl Marx theory, class struggle is actually the struggle between two classes; the
bourgeoisie owner of the capital and the proletariat the labor. There are many examples of class
struggle like 1930s Spain where the capitalist were landlords, Catholic Church was the biggest
landlord, and even New York City today, is one

Power In The Count Of Monte Cristo
What is considered power? How important is power? It writes history and causes conflicts. Money,
wealth, success, and titles do not classify power, as opposed to common misconceptions. A true
display of power requires control, influence, respect, and ability. In Alexander Dumas The Count of
Monte Cristo, the main character, Edmond Dantes, is an excellent portrayal of these all aspects.
Napoleon, depicted in Russia 1812, written by Victor Hugo, is known throughout the world as a
dominant revolutionary war general and strikes as an image of respect. Aksenof, the unfortunate
character in Leo Tolstoy s The Long Exile, exhibits an ascension to control, despite his series of
disastrous events, when he becomes the dominator of his enemy. These characters from literature are

In The Long Exile, Aksenof spares Makar, the man who had framed him for murder, from being
flogged to death. This act of kindness guilt trips Makar into begging forgiveness for his acts. Ivan
Dmitritch, forgive me! When they flogged me with the knout, it was easier to bear than it is now to
look at you... And you had pity on me after all this... you did not tell on me... Forgive me for Christ s
sake! Forgive me, though I am a cursed villain! And the man began to sob (Tolstoy 811). Aksenof,
whose destiny had once been sentenced by Makar, now dominated Makar s life. Not through force and
revenge, but pity and forgiveness, Aksenof had successfully obtained control over his enemy. In The
Count of Monte Cristo, the count s final act of vengeance reveals his immense power and control.
Stand up, said the count. Your life will be spared. Your two accomplices weren t so lucky: one of them
is insane and the other is dead! (Dumas 434). Danglars is merely another string for the count to pull,
and his fate demonstrates the count s absolute power and dominion over his

Characteristics Of The Classical Era Of Music
Ludwig Van Beethoven was recognized as a great composer in western music. Beethoven was also
known for creating the bridge between the classical and romantic era of music. He is known for doing
this because he took key aspects of the classical era and merged them with key aspects of the romantic
era. The classical era of music dates from 1775 1825. The classical music era had a lighter and more
clear texture (Kamien 161). The music from this era was mainly homophonic meaning that the music
had one part or melody that dominated all other parts or melodies (Kamien 160). Classical era music
also really focused on; how graceful and beautiful the melody and the form were, proportion and
balance, moderation, and control. The music was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While most composers worked for dignity, Beethoven did not feel the need to. He could compose on
his own time and sell a work when he needed or wanted money. Beethoven had the honor of having an
extensive influence. He earned his title as one of the greatest composers of his time because of his
ability to bridge the classic era of music to the romantic era of music. At the start of his musical career,
Beethoven was considered an exceptional pianist, not a great composer.
In 1798 Beethoven noticed that he had started to become deaf. He would spend the following thirty
years writing and composing music with major hearing loss. From his mid twenties to about three
months before his death, Beethoven did not stop composing and writing music. Beethoven drew his
musical inspiration from many sources. Beethoven also created the bridge between the classical and
romantic periods. Most of his work didn t completely fit into any one period s characteristics. If you
listen to Beethoven s compositions as he progressed as a composer, they could be divided into three
periods. The first is commonly known as his imitation period, the period when he took the styles,
mechanics, and techniques of other composers. He mimicked; Bach, Haden, as well as Mozart. Next,
he had the period of externalization, a time when he developed his own style and reveled in it. Thirdly

The Impact Of Technology In Airport Security
Sixteen years and billions of dollars invested in the growth of aviation security after the terrorist
attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, threats to airport security continuously progress
as the United States aviation security encounters numerous changes. Since the September 11th attacks,
the Transportation Security Administration, also known as the TSA, initiated their plan to ensure the
safety of nearly 2 million air passengers at approximately 440 airports nationwide. (Carraway)
Although the TSA implemented new training procedures, the aviation screeners fail to apply their
skills effective during searches and checkpoints. In the general public, many claim that technological

It is not logical to invest a significant amount of federal funds into airline security employment if there
is a large discrepancy between their current performances and expected results. However, technology
utilizes a significantly less amount of funding, but continues to perform its tasks. The Trump
administration plans to eliminate three airport security programs that were implemented after the 9/11
terrorist attack: Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response program that conduct random sweeps
through airports and other modes of transportation, Behavior Detection Officer program that identifies
potentially high risk individuals exhibiting behavior indicative of excessiveness then re routes them
for additional screening, and the grant program to support local police at airports, specifically, likely
target cities. (Halsey) These plans indicate that the Trump administration believes that the termination
of these programs will increase the budget for the Department of Homeland Security, but does not
reduce the number of TSA officers at checkpoints. There is also more funding for the government to
invest in other areas to improve the security for the general public. There is also a current decline in
airport staffing. In this report, the TSA admits that TSO staffing levels fell from 47,147 full time
employees to 42,525 between 2013 and 2016; concurrent passenger volume rose 15 percent in this
period, while the TSA only hired 373 workers to

The Jaguar Smile Summary
In The Jaguar Smile we see a number of actions that are considered to be political behavior, based on
the definition and examples provided by Dr. Munroe. One of the more easily identifiable political
behaviors that we see is the revolution itself. This is a major political behavior, it was the people s way
of saying that they are done with the Somoza government and they are ready for massive change. A
second political behavior that we see in The Jaguar Smile is voting. Voting is mentioned more than
once in the book, and evidence of people voting can be observed in the epilogue. As Rushdie is on the

We Live In Such A World Claude Mckay Meaning
Imagine a world with joy and happiness everything is flawless,No racism, no violence, no poverty and
no hate; we live in a utopian world. We do not live in such a world, it is nothing like this. The poem by
Claude McKay and the picture by Brittany Jackson have expressed that this world is not as perfect as
we think it is. The poem written by Claude McKay and the picture by Brittany Jackson both describe
the theme of how hatred is so easily acted upon.
The picture that Brittany Jackson illustrates, describes anger. You can see the anger in this picture
because of how easily he is eating the world, if he was not so angry then he would not be eating the
world so easily. If he was happy then it might be hard for him to eat the world, that is if he has a
conscience. You can also see that the man is cutting the world with a knife and if you were to cut a
world, then it would need a tougher knife than just a butter knife. Another detail that expresses anger
is his grip around the knife. I know for me I would not be gripping ... Show more content on

basic tactics that can help build your career brand and make you a much more attractive employee or
job seeker? Remember, if you don t brand yourself, others will for you. And while you may be happy

She was well cultured and was able to apply this to her role of a politician s wife with great attributes

She participated in many political activities. Her independent thinking, character, faithfulness, and

Because her mother had a limited amount of education, Abigail taught herself to read (Holton, 6).
When Abigail learned to read she couldn t stop reading. Her father had many books at home that he

However, Abigail did not have frivolous taste in books. The books that she liked the most were

herself different languages (Holton, 6). She also enjoyed writing letters to friends and family that lived

Contribution To Justice In The Saint Ignatius College...
India, a nation ruled by the British since the mid 1800 s. The British used the Indians as British
soldiers until the Indians became interested in nationalism. This nationalism led to the desire for self
government. The British promised the Indians self government, but instead broke their promise and
passed the Rowlatt Acts which gave the government the power to imprison protesters. In 1919, Hindus
and Muslims protested the Rowlatt Acts at Amritsar, but were unaware they were not allowed to have
public meetings. As a result, the British took the lives of about 400 Indians and wounded about 1200
people at the Amritsar Massacre. The Amritsar Massacre ushered millions of Indians into wanting
freedom from Britain s ruthlessness. Soon, India would be freed by the guidance and help of one man,

An Analysis Of Kate Soper s Book The Human
In this analysis, Kate Soper s book The Human In Posthumanism (___) will be studied in regards to
Soper s defence for human exceptionalism between humans and animals. In this text, there is a strong
concern for the depletion of the current ecology and the rise mass consumption, Soper suggests this is
due to our current ideologies of what it means to live a rich lifestyle. The posthumanist notion of a
human animal blurring is viewed in this text as a change that needs to be resisted in order to move
forward with the worldly issues at stake. However to do this, Soper suggests there needs to be a sense
of self realisation and self recognition that humans are in fact more exceptional than animals to
recognise their [humans] unique responsibilities for creating and correcting the environmental
devastation (pg377)
Humanism of the (___) period viewed science, rationality and reason as the dominant ideology. This
idea took more importance to humans rather than supernatural beings, thus the idea of human
exceptionalism was formed. In The Human in Posthumanism , Soper supports this concept when she
states I submit to defend human exceptionalism, and resist blurring the human animal divide .
However, one could say that her framework for thinking about the exceptionalism of humans is not
based off ideologies of the current time period, rather they are based on her wider concerns for the
planet. She states,

My Cultural Paper On Machu Picchu Peruvian Restaurant
One of the countries in South America is Peru, home to part of the Amazon rainforest and also to

civilization was renowned for its sophisticated dry stone walls, and so is Machu Picchu Peruvian

Invertebrates And Star Fish Comparison Essay
In the Discovery Education video about sea invertebrates, there were many similarities and differences
that make each of the invertebrates unique. Each of the invertebrates had different forms of achieving
nutrients and sourcing their food. In addition to finding different sources of food, they also have
different growth and reproductive rates and styles and how they respond to their environment also
depends on their environment and their physical abilities they have as a species. One of the most
essential keys to maintaining life is sourcing ways to obtain nutrients. Like many other marine
invertebrates, both the Krill and Diablo Rojo Squid come to eat at night. The Krill prey on plankton
near the top of the water, but as a result for leaving the security of the deep sea they themselves
become prey to other animals like fish. El Diablo Rojo Squid, also swimming near the shore use the
fish, lured in by the Krill, consume the fish as their main source of food. In addition to Krill, Jellyfish

Texting And Driving While Driving
Summary
Texting in cars and trucks causes over 3,000 deaths and 330,000 injuries per year, according to a
Harvard Centre for Risk Analysis study.
Texting while driving a vehicle has now replaced drinking while driving as the leading cause of
accidents and deaths of teenage drivers. Texting in traffic isn t simply a problem among teens and 47%
of adults admit that they text while driving. Texting drivers are 23 times more likely to be involved in
a crash than non texting drivers (Driving while Texting Six Times More Dangerous than Driving while
Drunk, 2014).
A mobile phone while driving is not only physically distracting, but visually distracting as well. A
driver is physically distracted as their hand is moved from the steering wheel to pick up the phone,
answer or end the call, or type a message. A mobile phone visually distracts the driver as their eyes are
taken off the road to look at the phone, when typing a message or reading (Service, 2013).
As a vehicle s speed increases, so does the distance travelled during the driver s reaction time and the
distance needed to stop. Also, the higher the speed, the greater the amount of kinetic energy that must
be absorbed by the impact in a crash. Therefore, as well as being identified as a causal factor in around
40 % of fatal crashes, speed is an aggravating factor in the severity of all crashes.
As speed increases so does the distance travel while brain is processing information and reacting to it

Choosing the Wrong Pricing Strategy Can Be a Costly Mistake
Published : June 04, 2003 in Knowledge@Wharton
Prices have been at the center of human interaction ever since traders in ancient Mesopotamia our
modern day Iraq began keeping records. Who doesn t love to guess what something costs or argue
about what something ought to cost?
So it should come as no surprise that companies spend a lot of time figuring out how to price their
products and services. But two professors in Wharton s marketing department, Jagmohan S. Raju and

You have to lay out the scenarios: If I do this, the competition will react a certain way. If the
competition doesn t react that way, then you have to have another plan ready. You cannot afford to fall
behind your competition. Pricing can be thought of in any number of ways. One approach is a simple
cost plus strategy: You figure out what it costs to produce an item and tack on a nice profit margin.
Another approach is to conduct research to determine what customers are willing to pay for your
product ($200 for a tiny bottle of perfume, for example) and set the price accordingly. Another method
is competition based pricing, whereby a company figures out what its competitors are charging, then
adjusts its prices up or down. All of these approaches make some sense, but none alone is sufficient,
says Zhang. With pricing strategies, the whole really is greater than the sum of its parts. A classic
example of how developing the right pricing strategy can spell the difference between profit
mediocrity and profit stardom occurred at Ford Motor in the 1990s. For years, Ford, like other auto
makers, tried to hold prices as low as possible on entry level cars, such as Escorts. Low prices
represented an attempt to attract young buyers, with the hope that as they grew older and needed
bigger vehicles they would remain loyal to

Transitioning Of A Silhouette By Langston Hughes
Transitioning Of A Silhouette During the years of the 1920 s through the early 1930 s, African
Americans established themselves artistically, culturally and socially. This intellectual period was
known as the Harlem Renaissance. The period of the Harlem Renaissance brought together black
authors, musicians, and poets. One of the most notable poets of this era was Langston Hughes.
Langston Hughes is considered one of leaders of this period. He s famously known for his
controversial bodies of work. One of the most controversial poems created by Hughes is his poem
called Silhouette . Silhouette was written in 1936, where racial segregation and prejudice was
emphasized. What makes this piece of work so controversial is how the tone within the poem takes a
drastic turn when the speaker and gender are changed. This paper will analyze the ambiguous
meanings of the poem once the speakers identity is transitioned. This poem focuses on the lynching of
a African American male. The speaker of the poem appears to console a woman who appears to be
distressed due to the events taking place. In the first four lines of stanza 1, the speaker says: Southern

Scarlet Letter Guilt Quotes
Guilt noun: the fact of having committed a specified or implied offense or crime. Being guilty, or
feeling guilt, does not have to mean that one has been caught committing a crime. The feeling of guilt
is actually very important because it comes from the conscience of a person and it means one did
something wrong that one knows one shouldn t have. A common word that can be mistaken for guilt is
regret. Regret is wishing he/she hadn t done the things he/she did. Someone would usually feel regret
after he/she has been caught committing a crime. The point is that guilt is one s self conscious telling
them that he/she has made a mistake while regret is where he/she wants to change what they did after

Chillingworth is the man that Hester Prynne cheated against and now Chillingworth wants revenge on
the man she unlawfully had intercourse with. Prynne also gave birth to a child that was not his because
Chillingworth had been gone for two years and if anyone knows anything about anatomy, the female
does not hold the baby in her womb for two years. Roger Chillingworth first talks to Hester in the
novel when she is in her prison cell. Chillingworth offers Hester and her daughter, which she
ironically named Pearl, medicine for their health. Hester thinks it is poison for her and Pearl in which
Chillingworth replies with, Foolish woman! What should ail me to harm this misbegotten and
miserable babe? The medicine is potent for good; and were it my child, yea, mine own as well as
thine! I could do no better for it (Hawthorne Ch. 4). Chillingworth is obviously angry that the baby
she is holding is not his but he will not punish her for it, he will punish the man responsible for it.
Hester does not reveal who the man is, so Chillingworth asks of her to not reveal who he is either.
Chillingworth does this mostly because he knows that if Dimmesdale, the man that Chillingworth does
not yet know is the other sinner, knew that Hester s true husband, Chillingworth was in Boston,
Chillingworth would be looking for revenge on Dimmesdale. Dimmesdale would now be unaware of
Dimmesdale s true identity, Chillingworth also changes his name because he is un naming both Hester
and Pearl, announcing this woman is not my wife and this child is not my child (Reid Pg. 7).

At a minimum, managers should meet quarterly with their employees to provide performance
feedback, with special attention given to the written feedback provided after the annual ranking
process is completed. Managers are expected to complete a RFF (Rank Feedback Form) annually at
the completion of the ranking process.
From the interview with Ms. Lim, the managerial will rank their employees according to their relative
level of performance. The employees will be call upon into the office by their own manager or even
supervisor, and will be interviewed accordingly. Ranking is done on an annual basis during the annual
planning cycle, which takes place worldwide during Quarter 1. There are three rank categories and a
performance category for employees who are not ranked because they are not consistently
demonstrating the performance expected of those in similar positions. The rank categories are:
Rank One This is the group of employees that have consistently far outperformed their peers in all
four rank criteria. They are the top performers, role models, and perceived leaders.

Personal Narrative-The Mice And The Dressmaker
The Mice and The Dressmaker
I woke up hearing her alarm indicating that it was time for school. Why are the weekends over so
quick, it s Monday already, I groaned to myself.
I got up and walked to the bathroom, passing the door that led to our little clothing store, G B , G for
my name and B for my father s name. After taking a shower I got dressed into a red shirt and some
jeans and then proceeded to the kitchen, the smell of toast greeted me when I walked in.
I sat down on the old wooden chair that was in the middle of the kitchen, everything was quite

Application For Successful Electronic Health Records
Reflection Paper
Introduction
As per Fenton, Giannangelo, Stanfill (2006), Workflow, project management, personnel, training,
support, communication, motivation, vision, leadership and evaluation, are essential considerations for
successful electronic health records (EHR) implementations. HI 5329 Assessment and Evaluation
course utilized a team work practical approach that covers explicitly or implicitly the majority of those
considerations. The first six modules within this course focused mainly on business processes and
workflow modeling as described in Workflow Modeling textbook (Sharp McDermott, 2009), hence
this is the first topic discussed in this paper. Additional skills developed during this course include
communication and presentation skills, which is discussed here as the second topic. Lastly, the third
topic is the economic aspects of evaluation as explained in the Evaluation Methods in Biomedical
Informatics textbook (Friedman Wyatt, 2005). Although this topic was not covered within the course
and the practical assignments, it grabs my interest as it discusses a critical real world issue.
Topic 1: Processes and Workflow Modeling
In the introduction section of each module, a statement emphasizing the importance of processes and
workflow modeling knowledge for healthcare informaticians was declared, as such knowledge and
skills are required to ensure high quality performance. As per Sharp and McDermott (2009), Workflow
Modeling is to clearly illustrate

Literary Analysis Of Gaurdian Angel
Gaurdian Angel
(A Literary Analysis of an Elegy) While you re in the process of being a kid and growing and
maturing you will probably more than once take someone for granted. We don t realize that we do
until something tragic happens and the guilt sets and you get that gut feeling, you know what I m
talking about right? We look up to people that we ve known for as long as we can remember, they are
all that we know, all that we have. We don t truly start to see how much someone means to us until
they re gone, my Aunt Belen was my best friend, she s flying high with my uncle right now, they both
meant so much to me and taught me how to stay positive, to spread love, and to stay strong more
anybody else has. Staying positive in the worst situations can and will make the world of a difference,
my aunt was the happiest person I knew, no matter what she had to go through she always looked at
every positive she could. My Aunt Belen had both of her legs amputated so she was in a wheelchair
and had two other wheelchairs and an electric one. When I was little I never understood why she had
no legs and frankly, I didn t care to know because she had these chairs that I could play on so I wasn t

Yoga Argument Essay
Yoga is a great exercise for people who want to increase flexibility, reduce stress, get fit, and lead a
more healthy life. Almost anyone can do yoga because it is very gentle which makes it well suited as
an exercise program all throughout life. Many people consider taking yoga but also have questions on
how to get started.
Many people are concerned that they are not flexible enough to do yoga and will never be able to get
into the contortionist poses many people associate with yoga. The truth is that yoga is about building
flexibility, among other things, and you do not need to be super limber to begin yoga. Yoga is not just
about being flexible either; it is also about relaxation and properly holding positions to the best of your
ability. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men benefit form yoga in the same ways that women do with increased flexibility, strength, stress

Yoga is well known to have many health benefits, but some people wonder if it will help them loose
weight as this is one of their main fitness goals. While yoga is not the fastest way to loose weight, it
can help you to loose those extra pounds. Because yoga combines physical exercise with positive
lifestyle changes, you will be able to better manage stress and eliminate the negative influences in
your life that contribute to weight problems.
Many exercise programs have strict rules as to how often you should perform them. While it is
important to give your body time to rest after strenuous activity, the gentle nature of yoga makes it one
type of exercise that you can practice as often as you like. You can start with classes a few times a
week and gradually add more or you can practice everyday at home. If your schedule allows
structured exercise less frequently, you can practice yoga whenever possible and still reap the health

The Cause And Effects Of Climate Change And Its Causes
Natural disasters have killed more than 600,000 people and left behind trillions of dollars in damages
in the last two decades, the United Nations said Monday. (Chan) Extreme weather has caused millions
of casualties and extreme damages over the years, but lately there has been an increase in severe
weather events. This is causing problems in the US, with the amount of tornadoes rising in tornado
alley Tennessee experienced a 67 percent increase in tornado activity in 1983 2013 compared to the
1954 1983 time period. Oklahoma experienced a nearly 35 percent decrease in tornadoes in 1983 2013
compared to 1954 1983.
Climate change is defined as a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change
apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of
atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. Climate change has happened as a
cycle throughout history, with ice ages occurring, and then warming. The earth naturally warms and
cools, but due to the burning of fossil fuels the rate is growing exponentially.
The climate changing was first suspected in the 19th century when scientists in britain debated
whether Europe was covered by ice in the past. Guy S Callender suggested that the warming trend
revealed in the 19th century had been caused by a 10% increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide from
the burning of fossil fuels. (Harding) The debate intensified by 2005 when a study was published

I thought that the Diet Coke Twisted Mango commercial was very poorly done. The commercial
featured actress Hayley Magnus, who takes a sip of Diet Coke and starts dancing uncontrollably.
Overall, I thought that the commercial was very annoying and ineffective. The main reason that I felt
the commercial was bad was because the dancing was very distracting. The poor dancing drew my
attention away from the product itself. As I watched the poor dancing I was cringing. The dancing was
so bad that my assumptions carried over to what Diet Coke Twisted Mango will likely taste like (very

Analysis Of The Book The Revolution By Jack Rakove
Revolutionaries, by Jack Rakove published in 2010 by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing
Company, which is located in New York city, New York, brings a collection of stories of the founding
fathers together to create the story of the American Revloution. The thesis of the book is arguably that
the American Revolution may never have happened without the mishaps of the Boston Tea Party,
which in turn created a collection of colonial leaders. Rakove s book, in the early chapters, focus on
Samuel and John Adams, John Dickinson, and George Washington. The later sections talk about the
trio of key party leaders in the early Republic: Jefferson, Madison, and Hamilton. Throughout, we are
introduced to less commonly know people: Henry Laurens, Jack Laurens, Arthur Lee and George
Mason The account of the first part of Revolutionaries is one we all learn in elementary school: no
taxation without representation and the Boston Tea Party. We re too comfortable with this period, or at
least with how we know it: the characters and the events have the well worn quality that comes from
being handled too much. Benjamin Franklin with his half glasses sells us plumbing and tax advice.
Proud Sam Adams hawks beer. Rakove uses rich descriptions of the Founders daily lives to quicken
the plaster cast heroes. While the First Continental Congress (meeting in Philadelphia in the fall of
1774) was debating how to respond to harsh British sanctions against the city of Boston, delegate

These social and constitutional developments that were made during 1860 to 1877 were so drastic it could be called a revolution. Many blacks did use their new political power to vote as it is shown in Harper s Weekly (Document G), but whites still tried to stop them. Literacy tests, grandfather clauses, and fear caused by the Ku Klux Klan were used to keep blacks from exercising their right to vote. Another issue of reconstruction was the banking and currency system. In an attempt to uniform the currency, Senator John Sherman gave a speech saying that with a currency and a medium of exchange, we shall have a broader and more generous nationality (Document B). At the time many states had their own currency and a change needed to be made to unite the states. A sense of nationality was needed as the nation was in turmoil after the attempted secession of the South. Reconstruction came to an end in 1877 with the Compromise of 1877. Rutherford Hayes became president for agreeing to end federal support for Southern Republicans and building a transcontinental railroad. In this compromise he also withdrew troops from the South. This, along with the rejection of laws protecting blacks from discrimination, brought reconstruction to an end in 1877. Many social changes occurred during the time from 1860 to 1877. In the history of the United States, blacks had been viewed as less than equal to whites. This was clearly shown through the three fifths compromise which counted slaves as less than an actual ... Victorian times were often referred to as the best of times and the worst of times, giving it an interesting dichotomy. During this time period there was tremendous growth in the English economy and in education, but there was also rampant child labor and many other crimes. While the economy growth almost entirely benefitted the middle and upper class it did help skilled workers of the working class, but left the unskilled workers living hand to mouth and being forced to have their children work in dangerous factories to help pay for food. The morality of these times was blind at best and hypocritical at worst, because while the common morality was to have honor and such it was a common practice at factories to exploit workers to degrees that are almost ... The main differences are because of modern conveniences and welfare states that lets the upper class enjoy greater luxuries and for the middle class to get closer to the upper class. The lower class even though they struggle to make ends meet they still have a far better lot in life than those in Victorian England. In Victorian England ones class did affect what kind of job you could get. If you were upper class you could essentially do whatever you wished, and if you were middle class you had lots of room for improvement. Bob later sued Maria for payment collection, but Maria denied ever signing the paperwork and claimed that all credit documents were referred to her receptionist. Is Maria liable? In this case Maria is considered as a disclosed principal and Maria s receptionist is her agent. (merriam Webster) defines a tradition as an inherited, established or customary pattern of thought, action, or behavior (as a religious practice or a social custom). In relation to these traditions most of them take place near or at a stadium where you can locate a sense of community. Research has also shown that social spaces (football stadiums) are prominent in creating unity within a community or school (Warner: shaping Community on Campus). So yes the traditions and venues and names of these venues must all contribute to fit in the community. With this in mind traditions can all get lost when a corporation comes in and decides to name the venue (Boyd 2000). Maintaining traditions have been shown to be valuable and changing the name of something historic could ruin the prestige of said facility and result in outrage (Snider, Rysen). A example of this is when the GEO Group, a multinational corporation that runs prisons, pledged $6 million for the naming rights to Florida Atlantic Universities stadium. However, in many cases, sports can also bring many hardships upon children and their families. The increasing talent level in professional and collegiate athletics is causing young athletes to participate in higher levels of sports than are healthy for their developing bodies. This intensification and specialization of youth sport is causing an abundance of physical and mental injuries to children and in many cases, the over training causes them to lose love for their sport. The effects of these injuries may also cause many complications later in life such as CTE and operations to replace damaged joints and tendons. The way in which children participate in sports has changed drastically. Playing a variety of sports for the sake of fun and love of the game, has evolved into extreme training and specialization in a single sport in attempt to be able to perform adequately at the next level. In the united states alone, the number of children younger than six on an organized sports team, the number of traveling leagues for seven and eight year olds, the percentage of specialized high school athletes, and the number of young olympians, have all risen over the last 15 years (3 ?). In this text, there is a strong concern for the depletion of the current ecology and the rise mass consumption, Soper suggests this is due to our current ideologies of what it means to live a rich lifestyle. The posthumanist notion of a human animal blurring is viewed in this text as a change that needs to be resisted in order to move forward with the worldly issues at stake. However to do this, Soper suggests there needs to be a sense of self realisation and self recognition that humans are in fact more exceptional than animals to recognise their [humans] unique responsibilities for creating and correcting the environmental devastation (pg377) Humanism of the (___) period viewed science, rationality and reason as the dominant ideology. This idea took more importance to humans rather than supernatural beings, thus the idea of human exceptionalism was formed. In The Human in Posthumanism , Soper supports this concept when she states I submit to defend human exceptionalism, and resist blurring the human animal divide . However, one could say that her framework for thinking about the exceptionalism of humans is not based off ideologies of the current time period, rather they are based on her wider concerns for the planet. She states, It is not, therefore by the reference to the intrinsic qualities of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. My Cultural Paper On Machu Picchu Peruvian Restaurant One of the countries in South America is Peru, home to part of the Amazon rainforest and also to Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is an ancient Incan city that was set high in the Andes Mountains. The civilization was renowned for its sophisticated dry stone walls, and so is Machu Picchu Peruvian Restaurant. This restaurant has captured the essence not only of the ancient civilization, but of the culture of Peru as well. Though this is a restaurant, they teach their customers about Spanish culture, and they also contributes to both their immediate community and Hispanic community. So in other words, this restaurant isn t just a restaurant, but a Peruvian cultural experience. First of all, the reason why I chose to do my Cultural Paper on Machu Picchu Peruvian Restaurant is because to me (as well as the community, I m sure), this place isn t only in existence to sell food, but to allow its customers to experience Peru and it s culture as much as possible without going to the actual country. When you first drive past the restaurant, the stone design of the outside draws your attention. This restaurant is located in downtown Newburgh (one of the most dangerous cities in New York), so its design automatically stands out from the poverty surrounding the area. Also, from the moment I walked into the restaurant, it was like I stepped into a different world; from the smells to the ambiance, this restaurant embodied Peru to the T . The dishes on the menu were all authentic, Peruvian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Invertebrates And Star Fish Comparison Essay In the Discovery Education video about sea invertebrates, there were many similarities and differences that make each of the invertebrates unique. Each of the invertebrates had different forms of achieving nutrients and sourcing their food. In addition to finding different sources of food, they also have different growth and reproductive rates and styles and how they respond to their environment also depends on their environment and their physical abilities they have as a species. One of the most essential keys to maintaining life is sourcing ways to obtain nutrients. Like many other marine invertebrates, both the Krill and Diablo Rojo Squid come to eat at night. The Krill prey on plankton near the top of the water, but as a result for leaving the security of the deep sea they themselves become prey to other animals like fish. El Diablo Rojo Squid, also swimming near the shore use the fish, lured in by the Krill, consume the fish as their main source of food. In addition to Krill, Jellyfish also consume plankton. While some invertebrates unique traits are commonly known, like how a starfish can regenerate an arm in about a week, other abilities like regenerating shells are equally as interesting. Spider Crabs have the ability to grow a new shell underneath their old shell before moving to warm water where they are able to crack their old shell open and back out with a new one. Marine animals that live in the frigid waters of Antarctica like the Red Starfish, Sea Urchins, and Nemertine worms move are very slow; they have a slow metabolism, slow growth rate, and move very slow across the sea floor. One explanation of their slow movements is their need to conserve energy. Carcasses, their main food source, are not abundant, so they need to conserve energy they receive from their ... • 39. Texting And Driving While Driving Summary Texting in cars and trucks causes over 3,000 deaths and 330,000 injuries per year, according to a Harvard Centre for Risk Analysis study. Texting while driving a vehicle has now replaced drinking while driving as the leading cause of accidents and deaths of teenage drivers. Texting in traffic isn t simply a problem among teens and 47% of adults admit that they text while driving. Texting drivers are 23 times more likely to be involved in a crash than non texting drivers (Driving while Texting Six Times More Dangerous than Driving while Drunk, 2014). A mobile phone while driving is not only physically distracting, but visually distracting as well. A driver is physically distracted as their hand is moved from the steering wheel to pick up the phone, answer or end the call, or type a message. A mobile phone visually distracts the driver as their eyes are taken off the road to look at the phone, when typing a message or reading (Service, 2013). As a vehicle s speed increases, so does the distance travelled during the driver s reaction time and the distance needed to stop. Also, the higher the speed, the greater the amount of kinetic energy that must be absorbed by the impact in a crash. Therefore, as well as being identified as a causal factor in around 40 % of fatal crashes, speed is an aggravating factor in the severity of all crashes. As speed increases so does the distance travel while brain is processing information and reacting to it and so does the distance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Choosing the Wrong Pricing Strategy Choosing the Wrong Pricing Strategy Can Be a Costly Mistake: Knowledge@Wharton (http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article.cfm?articleid=792) Choosing the Wrong Pricing Strategy Can Be a Costly Mistake Published : June 04, 2003 in Knowledge@Wharton Prices have been at the center of human interaction ever since traders in ancient Mesopotamia our modern day Iraq began keeping records. Who doesn t love to guess what something costs or argue about what something ought to cost? So it should come as no surprise that companies spend a lot of time figuring out how to price their products and services. But two professors in Wharton s marketing department, Jagmohan S. You have to lay out the scenarios: If I do this, the competition will react a certain way. If the competition doesn t react that way, then you have to have another plan ready. You cannot afford to fall behind your competition. Pricing can be thought of in any number of ways. One approach is a simple cost plus strategy: You figure out what it costs to produce an item and tack on a nice profit margin. Another approach is to conduct research to determine what customers are willing to pay for your product ($200 for a tiny bottle of perfume, for example) and set the price accordingly. Another method is competition based pricing, whereby a company figures out what its competitors are charging, then adjusts its prices up or down. All of these approaches make some sense, but none alone is sufficient, says Zhang. With pricing strategies, the whole really is greater than the sum of its parts. A classic example of how developing the right pricing strategy can spell the difference between profit mediocrity and profit stardom occurred at Ford Motor in the 1990s. For years, Ford, like other auto makers, tried to hold prices as low as possible on entry level cars, such as Escorts. Low prices represented an attempt to attract young buyers, with the hope that as they grew older and needed bigger vehicles they would remain loyal to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper will analyze the ambiguous meanings of the poem once the speakers identity is transitioned. This poem focuses on the lynching of a African American male. The speaker of the poem appears to console a woman who appears to be distressed due to the events taking place. Being guilty, or feeling guilt, does not have to mean that one has been caught committing a crime. The feeling of guilt is actually very important because it comes from the conscience of a person and it means one did something wrong that one knows one shouldn t have. A common word that can be mistaken for guilt is regret. Regret is wishing he/she hadn t done the things he/she did. Someone would usually feel regret after he/she has been caught committing a crime. The point is that guilt is one s self conscious telling them that he/she has made a mistake while regret is where he/she wants to change what they did after he/she did it and after he/she got caught. Prynne also gave birth to a child that was not his because Chillingworth had been gone for two years and if anyone knows anything about anatomy, the female does not hold the baby in her womb for two years. Roger Chillingworth first talks to Hester in the novel when she is in her prison cell. Chillingworth offers Hester and her daughter, which she ironically named Pearl, medicine for their health. Hester thinks it is poison for her and Pearl in which Chillingworth replies with, Foolish woman! What should ail me to harm this misbegotten and miserable babe? The medicine is potent for good; and were it my child, yea, mine own as well as thine! I could do no better for it (Hawthorne Ch. 4). Chillingworth is obviously angry that the baby she is holding is not his but he will not punish her for it, he will punish the man responsible for it. Hester does not reveal who the man is, so Chillingworth asks of her to not reveal who he is either. Chillingworth does this mostly because he knows that if Dimmesdale, the man that Chillingworth does not yet know is the other sinner, knew that Hester s true husband, Chillingworth was in Boston, Chillingworth would be looking for revenge on Dimmesdale. Dimmesdale would now be unaware of Dimmesdale s true identity, Chillingworth also changes his name because he is un naming both Hester and Pearl, announcing this woman is not my wife and this child is not my child (Reid Pg. 7). Chillingworth s main sin in this story is letting his mind be overwhelmed with hate, revenge, and vengeance. Chillingworth seeking revenge appoints him with a God like, law bearing role. His job is to reveal the man who has denied the laws of Puritanism and God (Reid Pg. 7). Chillingworth, who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

HI 5329 Assessment and Evaluation course utilized a team work practical approach that covers explicitly or implicitly the majority of those considerations. The first six modules within this course focused mainly on business processes and workflow modeling as described in Workflow Modeling textbook (Sharp McDermott, 2009), hence this is the first topic discussed in this paper. Additional skills developed during this course include communication and presentation skills, which is discussed here as the second topic. Lastly, the third topic is the economic aspects of evaluation as explained in the Evaluation Methods in Biomedical Informatics textbook (Friedman Wyatt, 2005). Although this topic was not covered within the course and the practical assignments, it grabs my interest as it discusses a critical real world issue. Topic 1: Processes and Workflow Modeling In the introduction section of each module, a statement emphasizing the importance of processes and workflow modeling knowledge for healthcare informaticians was declared, as such knowledge and skills are required to ensure high quality performance. The Cause And Effects Of Climate Change And Its Causes Natural disasters have killed more than 600,000 people and left behind trillions of dollars in damages in the last two decades, the United Nations said Monday. (Chan) Extreme weather has caused millions of casualties and extreme damages over the years, but lately there has been an increase in severe weather events. This is causing problems in the US, with the amount of tornadoes rising in tornado alley Tennessee experienced a 67 percent increase in tornado activity in 1983 2013 compared to the 1954 1983 time period. Oklahoma experienced a nearly 35 percent decrease in tornadoes in 1983 2013 compared to 1954 1983. Climate change is defined as a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. Climate change has happened as a cycle throughout history, with ice ages occurring, and then warming. The earth naturally warms and cools, but due to the burning of fossil fuels the rate is growing exponentially. The climate changing was first suspected in the 19th century when scientists in britain debated whether Europe was covered by ice in the past. Guy S Callender suggested that the warming trend revealed in the 19th century had been caused by a 10% increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels. • 51. Analysis Of The Book The Revolution By Jack Rakove Revolutionaries, by Jack Rakove published in 2010 by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company, which is located in New York city, New York, brings a collection of stories of the founding fathers together to create the story of the American Revloution. The thesis of the book is arguably that the American Revolution may never have happened without the mishaps of the Boston Tea Party, which in turn created a collection of colonial leaders. Rakove s book, in the early chapters, focus on Samuel and John Adams, John Dickinson, and George Washington. The later sections talk about the trio of key party leaders in the early Republic: Jefferson, Madison, and Hamilton. Throughout, we are introduced to less commonly know people: Henry Laurens, Jack Laurens, Arthur Lee and George Mason The account of the first part of Revolutionaries is one we all learn in elementary school: no taxation without representation and the Boston Tea Party. We re too comfortable with this period, or at least with how we know it: the characters and the events have the well worn quality that comes from being handled too much. Benjamin Franklin with his half glasses sells us plumbing and tax advice. Proud Sam Adams hawks beer. Rakove uses rich descriptions of the Founders daily lives to quicken the plaster cast heroes.
