Choosing our audience
The most important factors in the pre-production of our thriller was trying to find
the right target audience. As seen time and time again in the film industry some
films fail financially when production and distribution companies involved with the
film create a film that is intended for the wrong target audience such as Die Hard 5
which was a dud of a film due to it being a 12a when Die Hard is loved for being a
franchise filled with violence and profanity. We decide that the social class for our
target audience was B-C2 and the age group and sex would be 15-35 year old
males. We believed this to be the best target audience we believe it would be poor
taste to push away certain audience members based on ethnicity and religion so
hence didn’t market the film for certain religions or ethnicities.
Social Class
Our target audience in terms of Social Class is B-C2 which covers the middle
class to skilled working class respectively. We chose these groups of people as
they are fairly well paid people who can afford to spend money on tickets.
Furthermore a large percentage of the population fall into this category of class
meaning more people will watch it, meaning more money can be made.
Gender
We chose our target gender for the thriller to be males. This because through
research and asking people we knew in our target age group questions we found
that a majority of people who enjoyed the thriller/horror genre were males. The
reasons why that we gathered include the fact that males enjoy violent films more
than females. However we tried to make our opening sequence as accessible to
both genders as possible.
Age
Our age group is 15-35 years of age. We decided that this would be the most
appropriate age range because we discovered after investigating the UK census
that this age group made up the majority of population meaning that our film is
reaching the largest amount of people. In addition a lot of people in this age group
are still finding themselves and enjoy experiencing something new such as being
taken into a different world with our film tries to do.
