In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
  forms and conventions of real
           products?

        Evaluation question 1
As you can see by my front cover I have used and
developed my forms such as camera work. I have used
a close up for the front cover which works well as it
looks like a typical music magazine and it catches the
eye of the reader. I also used different font styles to set
the house style for the magazine. The masthead looks
very trashy and rebellious, just the image my music
magazine was suppose to give off. I have used a
complex arrangement of quotes such as playing the
pilots ‘I love to trash house parties’. I also added –
‘free posters’ to my front cover, this will make the
reader more likely to buy it. The theme throughout my
magazine is a very heavy/trashy style, which is aimed
at students and is a very appealing style to this
audience. My contents page is mostly red and black,
this style is very common in rock/heavy magazines, I
used it as it appeals to most rock fans and is a very
stereotypical style to use. It works well on a white
background and a collage of pictures.
I used this picture as my front cover of
my indie/rock magazine. I believe it
develops the forms and conventions of a
normal indie/rock magazine, it has a
medium close up of a single band
member, Although there is a smaller
amount of photos on this front cover
than on a normal front cover. The band
member on my front cover has a very
indie look about him, his crew neck
jumper and his ear stretch. This develops
the forms and conventions of a normal
indie magazine. I had to reduce the red
eye in this photo as it is very distinctive
in this front cover.
I also used this picture on my front cover. It
develops the forms and conventions of a normal
indie/rock magazine. Each band member in this
picture fits to the stereo-type of the magazine,
Smart and a indie style haircut and at a live music
venue. This picture shows what would you would
usually expect in a indie magazine. This
encourages the reader to buy it. I believe the
clothes that they are wearing develop the forms
and conventions of what a rock/indie band would
wear. People will buy this magazine if it fits the
stereo types of the readers.
This is my contents page. I believe it challenges
forms and conventions of a normal contents page
as it has 3 main colours. Black, red and white. I
have darkened these photos so they fit the style of
the magazine. The contents page is very picture
heavy, if i could go back i would put more text on
it such as quotes and headers. The pictures fit in
with the indie/rock stereotype. The biggest picture
is of the same band member who was on the front
of the magazine. I used him in my contents page
along with some of his other band members,
there is also some shots of the crowd there, to
show the reader what the experience was like, so
maybe the reader will go see the band live.
This is double page spread. I tried to carry
on the same house style throughout my
magazine by having the colours red white
and black. This looks good yet usually
challenges the forms and conventions of a
normal indie/rock magazine. I also
darkened all the photos on this page too, it
makes the magazine look more
professional, and more like a music
magazine. I have made the first sentence
to each paragraph bold so its easier to
read, it also encourages the reader to read
it. I warped the word ‘the’ in the main
mast head of this page and made the
middle of the page go through the gap of
the t and the h. This is so you can read the
word easier, and makes the magazine look
more professional.
As you can see my front cover challenged the forms and conventions of a normal magazine front
cover. In the Kerrang front cover they use a close up of a band member, and they also use allot
of black. Yet mine is mostly red, i made the style of my magazine mostly red. My contents page
also develops the forms and conventions of a normal magazine. I use more pictures than text,
this will draw the audience in. In my double page spread it also develops the forms and
conventions of a normal magazine. It has a 50/50 text/picture ratio, which i think made it look
more professional. I also kept the same colours through out my magazine – red, black and white.
