Have you contemplated
the great mysteries of
Life?
How do you view life and
death
Are they inextricably tied
together?
Researchers have found
when you lose something,
research suggests you value
it more
Have you taken time to
smell the roses?
Savoring positive
experiences makes them
stick in your brain and
increase the benefits to your
psyche.
Close your eyes and imagine
a pleasurable experience
Expressing Gratitude
Expressing Gratitude
Expressing Gratitude
What experiences can you recall ?
What experiences do you savor ?
Who do remember and why?
Do you take Good things
as Gifts or Entitlement ?
The Opposite of Gratitude is
Entitlement -believe yourself
as special
Seeing with a Grateful
Eye
Requires that you see the
web of Interconnections in
relationships with nature and
other other people
Recovery = showing up and
being of service , making
amends
Be Grateful to People Not Just
Things
Take Notice
How others help you
How you acknowledged their
help
How you benefited from the
interaction
Say thank you with purpose
and meaning
Specificity is Paramount
The more specific you are
with another, the more
genuine gratitude feels
I appreciate being told exactly
what is working and what is
not
What three, four or even five people did you thank
today for a specific thing that enriches your life?
How do you Thank
outside the Box?
Your loved one for allowing
you to explore your own
behaviors
Your boss for firing you
Your boyfriend or girlfriend for
ending your relationship
Your interventionists for
getting you to treatment
Gratitude is a Critical Life
Process
Its easy to feel grateful for the
good things
Its critical to when
devastating things happen to
us to be grateful (When Bad
Things Happen to Good
People )
Life is suffering ( Emmons -
Life is temporary -Buddah
Processing Life thru a
Grateful Lens
Does not mean denying
Negativity
Instead it means realizing you
have the power to transform
an obstacle into an
opportunity
It means reframing a loss to a
potential gain and recasting
negativity into positive
channels
