there are 1.8 million current drug users in the
Philippines, and 4.8 million Filipinos report having

2016). The government has initiated a campaign to
eliminate drugs in the country known as the ‘war on
drugs’ since 2016. Pronounced by President Duterte
upon his election in 2016, he began fulfilling his
campaign promise to eliminate drugs in the country,
saying: “You drug pushers, holdup men, and do-
nothings, you better get out because I'll kill you”
