The document discusses the tsunami warning system in the Indian Ocean. It describes the old warning system which lacked coordination between countries. Old Tsunami Warning System ● The organizations such as PWTC, JMA have already existed. ● But there was not organizations responsible for tsunami warning system. ● And the instruments for monitoring the sea- level were not arranged enough. ● And the counties didn't communicate and exchange information fully. ● Therefor, serious accident like India Ocean tsunami happened.
About effects of the Indian Ocean Tsunami ● This tsunami happened in 2004 and killed about 230,000 people. ● For this reason, PWTC put the more sea-level monitoring instruments . ● There are the better each other countries communication and sharing the information. ● This becomes a large network of tsunami warning system.
Two Major Tsunami Warning Center And Their Jobs 1 ● There are two major tsunami warning center. One is PWTC introduced previous slide. Another is Japan Meteorological Agency(JMA). ● They have two major jobs. ● One is to determine the size of earthquakes. ● Two is to predict how long tsunami strikes the regions. ● It takes about 20 minutes to analyze the earthquake.
Two Major Tsunami Warning Center And Their Jobs 2 ● And they receive the information of earthquake. There is a great communication network. ● Many countries have the facilities of earthquake. They send the seismic information they take to PWT and JMA. Finally, This information is sent and received around the world.
About Pacific Tsunami Warning Center In Detail ● It is alerting countries to come the tsunami. ● Using the instruments , it can predict whether tsunami happens or not. ● It has been alerting for over 40 years. ● The picture is how PWTC warns the tsunami.
The Ways of Alerting The Region ● The information is sent and exchanged by various ways. ● Indirectly, Warning of tsunami is sent out through a radio, TV and Internet. ● Directly, we use a bell, amplification equipment in the region which has possible of striking tsunami
