Group Counseling Module 5-3 Sheena Welker June 11 2010
Anonymity In group counseling, all of the members uphold confidentiality. For example A.A.'s rules on anonymity are “A.A. Never disclose their association with the movement of print, on air, or through any other public media, and no one has the right to break the anonymity of anther member” (A.A. 2010) Step one of the twelve traditions is “our common welfare should come first; personal recovery depends upon unity.” (OCAA 2008)
Safety The group counselor will ensure that there is no “verbal, or physical abuse” (Argosy 2010) A.A and N.A is a “fellowship of men and women who share their experience strength and hopes with each other that they may solve their common problem and help other to recovery” (OCAA 2008) Number five of the twelve traditions “each group has but one primary purpose- to carry its message to addicts who still suffer” (OCAA 2008) The people in these groups have similar experience as yours, they will not judge you, because everyone's sobriety in the group depends on it.
Payment A great thing about A.A. And N.A they are completely free. “NA is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. We ... meet regularly to help each other stay clean. ... We are not interested in what or how much you used ... but only in what you want to do about your problem and how we can help." Narcotics Anonymous 2010
