Always Think Before You Act! “ No one has the right to interfere with the learning, safety, or well-being of others”
Do not name call, harass, intimidate or bully others Do not use term, names, and/or words to demean another person
Harassment, Intimidation  or Bullying Not allowed Definition :  Nonverbal, verbal, written, graphic, sexual, or physical nature that is directed at an individual or group on the basis of race, gender (sex), national origin, religion, age, marital status, disability, or any other protected class.
Tell The Truth False reports or retaliation for any form of harassment, intimidation or bullying or for reporting such conduct or assisting in investigations as such conduct, constitutes a violation of school rules, district policy and is illegal.
What if it is happening to me or someone I know? Tell the Principal or teacher Come to the office Put note in the complaint box
What happens to me if I  harass someone else? Parents involved Suspended Progressive discipline Police may be called
Respect HOW DOES THE DICTIONARY DEFINE “RESPECT”?  To show honor, to value, to be thoughtful about to have regard for, to hold in esteem, to be considerate of
What is Harassment? Any  UNWELCOME , OR UNINVITED  behavior, related to: Race Religion Ethnic origin Physical, mental or sensory disability or condition Gender/sexual orientation
The behavior, displays or language  may include: offensive and inappropriate: Comments  gestures Remarks  jokes Displaying inappropriate pictures or drawings Standing too close, cornering, stalking Grabbing or inappropriate touching Persuading or threatening someone for sexual activity Intimidating or degrading someone
THERE ARE NO EXCUSES FOR HARASSMENT! A harasser might say: “ It’s a joke.” “ I was just flirting.” “ She/He likes it.” “ Everybody does it.” But…. If it is UNWANTED, INAPPROPRATE, Or creates a hostile or offensive Educational environment,  IT IS HARASSMENT And  IT IS against the LAW!
WHAT CAN  YOU DO? Tell the harasser to STOP. Be Assertive! Keep a note of what happened Tell another person (principal,  teacher, counselor, friend). Support others who have been harassed. Offer to be a witness for the victim.
What does the school policy say? Someone from the school will help you. You have the right to file a complaint. Retaliation against a victim or witness is prohibited. Those who harass others will be disciplined. Those who knowingly file or support  False  allegations will be disciplined. Asking someone to do the harassing for you is harassing and is prohibited.
Assignment Procedure:   Read the following incidents and   answer the questions    below on a separate sheet of paper: A student called another student “fattie.” A student is being teased and left out of activities by their peers. A student wrote that another student was “gay” on the chalkboard. A student told another student that they must be brown because they  drink chocolate milk. How would you feel if you were being harassed? What could you do if you were a witness of harassment? Name 3 ways you can help to make your school a harassment free building. List 3 ways you can help make all students feel welcome and safe at your school.
