Revolutionary Causes
Revolutionary Causes Humans have always needed a power above to guide them. Whether it
could be a monarchy, republic, or a god. It gives humans a sense of safety and trust. There is no
place on earth without a governmental system. However, if that government is corrupt the people
have the right to overthrow it and replace the system with something new. The right of which it is
said in The Declaration of Independence. America was born but at what cost? The Revolutionary
War had ended. A new era began as humans on the other side of the world heard of the victory. The
French in particular were ecstatic of the news because they had helped the Americans defeat
England. This excitement did not last. The French had their own problems. First, they

Fin Position Lab Report
The worse thing that could happen is for you to sink on a ship. But with a submarine, that exactly
what you want! The purpose of my science fair project was to find out how the presence or
absence of a stabalazing fin will affect the movement and funcntion of the submarine. I was also
trying to find out what fin position is the best for the submarineto move properely as desired. My
hypothesis was that the submarine will need a fin to move and function properly, so that it doesn t
go out of control. I also think that the best position for the submarine is to put the fin in the centre
of the bottle because it will have an equal amount of buyoncy on both sides of the bottle. The
controlles variables or the constants (what I keep the same) in my experiment was the submarine
bottle, the timer, propeller, tub, amount of water in the tub, ruler, and the number of times I supn

The way I measured the dependant variable (what I observe) using a timer to time how long the
submarine moves in the water. I also observed the movement of the submarine depending on the
fin position. The results of my experiment was that a submarine defientely needs a fin to function
properley. This is becuase wothout one, the submarine seems to move randomly without a specific
dorection. However, when a stabalizing fin is present, the submarine moves at a specific rate and
direction. I also found out that if you move the fin to the right, the bottle will turn right aswell, and
same goes for the left side. The more right/left you push the fin, the wider the turns get, while if
you move the fin a little, the turns are quite sharp. According to my experiment, the best position
for the stabalizing fin was in the middle of the bottle because the submarine seems to move at a

Essay on Experiment on Photocromism and Piezochromism
Experiment B10 Photocromism and Piezochromism
Reece Harms 4320288
Introduction
This experiment investigates an oxidative coupling reaction in an to synthesise triphenylimidazole
dimer from 2,4,5 triphenyl 1H imidazole. The resulting compound was investigated for both
photochromic and piezochromic properties by way of formation of a stable radical, utilizing visual
observations and UV Vis as a means of distinction. Both the oxidative coupling reaction and the
dimers interaction with light are depicted in the reactions in figure 1.
Figure 1: Oxidative Coupling reaction of 2,4,5 triphenyl 1H imidazol

This could be improved by utilizing an inert atmosphere of solely nitrogen. Melting the compound
resulted in an intensely dark purple liquid. This is a result of the resonance stabilized radical being
formed by the homolysis of the carbon to carbon bond validating the photochromic properties. The
colour change further substantiates that the desired product was produced despite the inaccuracies
in melting point values. Homolytic cleavage of the dimer prepared by solvation with toluene results
in a deep purple solution confirming the formation of the resonance stabilized radical.
After placing in darkness the colorless solution resulted by reformation of the radical intermediates
to a new thermodynamic product via C N bond at room temperature. UV Vis was conducted on the
solution before and after the irradiation with sunlight: UVtoluene 554.92nm, A=0.12 before
irradiation and A=1.05 after. The peak at 554.92nm corresponds to yellow/green light and its
complementary colour is red/violet. This validates the solutions violet color. The increased
absorbance was accounted for an increase in the radical component. The radical was formed when
exposed to light, which was visually apparent with the purple coloration and proved the
thermodynamic dimer was also photochromic. When dimer 4 is exposed to light photons collide
with the molecule and impart energy upon them. This energy is significant enough to break the
bond between the two rings and results

Art Appreciation Unit 4 Ip Essay
From the Baroque Period through the Romantic Age
May 20, 2010
Unit 4 Individual Project
ART205 1002B 12
American InterContinental University
Abstract
During this assignment I will talk about three types of Work of Art from three different artists from
the Baroque period through the postmodern era. 1). Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio; 2)
Rembrandt van Rijn; and 3) Peter Paul Rubens, these three artists were known for their religious
theme in their art work. The naturalism that was visibly demonstrated in each of the artist work
with high contrast of lighting that noticeably appeared in these paintings. Each artist was well
known and respected for their work.
The three artists Works of Art that I have chosen are:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Until the late 19th century many biographers and art scholars deliberately ignored Caravaggio
work. Some people felt as if his work was to natural or just ordinary. (Sayre, 2010) His work of
art was characterized by displaying weakness or humankind. Sometime people had a difficult time
trying to figure out if his painting was religious or not. In fact the contrast in his paintings between
light and dark tones was evident in the spiritual content and its representation in the painting.
(Sayre, 2010) Caravaggio became ill on a beach in Port Ercole. Caravaggio passed away July 18,
1610 after battling with malaria which he fought to overcome.
Rembrandt van Rijn: The Resurrection of Christ c. 1635 39 (Oil on Canvas)
Description of Rembrandt Work of Art
The Resurrection of Christ is from the Baroque period. This work of art portrays the sense of
dramatic antagonism that Caravaggio achieved by manipulating light across full range of tones,
changing the intensity and transforming its radiance this was done so that every beam and shadow
expressed a dissimilar emotional content. (Sayre, 2010) In Rembrandt painting he focused on using
emotional contrast between light and dark tones to emphasize the emotional difference. Here you
can see pure light radiating out of the tomb of darkness. Christ himself begins to rise from the tomb
in the light of true symbolic

War Criticism Of War
Is war really kind? Is war really worth countless men dying? Throughout history, war has been
seen as glorious, but in reality, critics of war argue it is not. Family members die, young lives are
lost every day, and many other things convey that war is ugly and negative. Authors such as
Wilfred Owen(foot soldier who fought and died serving for his country in world war one), Stephen
Crane(war correspondent who covered the Spanish American war), Kevin Powers(soldier who
fought in Iraq), and Tim O Brien(soldier who fought in Vietnam), have written stories and poems to
prove this. These authors will use imagery, irony, and structure to protest War and to illustrate how
negative war is.
To begin with, in the poem Dulce et Decorum Est, by Wilfred Owen, and War is Kind, by Stephen
Crane, imagery is used to protest War. In the poem Dulce et Decorum Est, by Wilfred Owen,
imagery is demonstrated to protest War by showing us how horrific and deadly war is. In stanza
two the author states, GAS! GAS! Quick, boys! An ecstasy of fumbling.....Dim, through the
misty panes and thick green light, as under a green sea (Owen). Based on the reading one can see
how visual imagery is being used. Owen fought in World War One and he is trying to convey an
image of the gas attack, he was a part of in this war. This is important because Owen puts these
words in the poem to give an image of how he saw war and to give us a picture of how deadly the
war was. Owen is protesting War by saying in his poem

Weed Science Project
Project Description:
The project consisted in a quick guide that can be used as an emergency kit for new graduate
students within the Plant Pathology, Physiology, and Weed Science Department. At the beginning
of the program, students tend to become overwhelmed by the information provided through
orientations or paperwork to be done; therefore, they might dedicate less attention to subjects as
Ethic, Plagiarism, Honor Code, etc. In addition, a certain nervousness may arise, as they begin to
study or hear about these concepts, due to the complexity. Things get worse when orientations are
missed, because the information that can help make the transition easier is omitted.
With this guide, I intended to provide a short summary, highlighting topics and tools that students
should focus in the beginning, and this can be to some extent more helpful for those who have been
out of the school for a long time or are coming from a different educational system.
The topics recommended in the project included, Honor Code, Graduate Student Handbook, citation
style, citation and grammar tools, Virginia Tech resources, code of conduct, and a link was
included, so they can be easily accessed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Justice Kagan Reasonableness
The U.S. Constitution provides equal protection to all citizens, regardless of race, color, or state of
residence. As such, cases of Fourth Amendment violations should yield consistent verdicts across
jurisdictions. The objective reasonableness standard adopted in Heien, however, fails to ensure
uniform application of the Forth Amendment. In contrast, a categorical exclusion of evidence
obtained through a mistake of law would have ensured equal application of the law and excluded
inconsistency in criminal verdicts.
The majority in Heien failed to clarify what exactly constitutes a reasonable mistake, leaving it up to
lower courts to adopt and interpret their own standards of reasonableness, including ones that are
more relaxed than the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, under Justice Kagan s approach, one court may find a statute very hard to interpret, but give
more deference to the facts of the case than another court. For instance, one judge may consider
emergency, lack of time, lack of police resources, or other circumstances in determining whether
a mistake was reasonable. Second, under Justice Kagan s approach, one state may have different
expectations about ambiguity or the level of legal expertise than another, which would lead to
inconsistent verdicts. For instance, a state that sets a higher standard for its police force might
have a higher bar for the reasonableness test than a state that lacks resources or will to supply
expert police force. As such, the Heien approach will result in wide inconsistency across the fifty
states, thousands of U.S. cities, and millions of municipalities. In contrast, a categorical
exclusion would completely avoid inconsistency. Because an officer s mistake of law is black or
white either the mistake did or did not happen accepting the categorical exclusion approach would
always yield consistent results. That is, once a court determines that something is not a law, all
police actions based on that provision would be nullified. As such, the Forth Amendment will
apply equally to all citizens regardless of race, color, state of residence or other social cleavages as
provided in the

Analysis Of Pursuit Of Happiness By Kid Cudi
Pursuit of Happiness The rhetorical triangle is basically the starting point every songwriter uses
to create their music. If not executed correctly the song could not be delivered right or loss in
translation to the listeners. The triangle focuses on the audience, the communicator, and the
message which comes together to create the content. An example of the use of the rhetorical
triangle would be the song Pursuit of Happiness by Kid Cudi. This song could be interpreted in
many different viewpoints based on the way you view the use of drugs and alcohol. One listener
can perceive the song as a method of justifying the use of drugs, while the artist can view it as
the struggles of a man trying to find true happiness and escaping his problems. With that said the
rhetorical triangle could be used in many ways but only a few ways can be found to be effective.
The rhetorical triangle is demonstrated accurately in this song through the uses of ethos, logos,
and pathos to support the statement that not everything you believe can bring you happiness
will. It could also be interpreted from the point of view of audience who the message is
addressed to. One of the arguments in the song Pursuit of Happiness is the use of drugs to find
happiness will only provide a temporary solution to your problems. In the song Cudi uses the lyrics
Crush a bit, little bit, roll it up, take a hit Feelin lit, feelin light, 2 AM summer night, and I m on the

the Kuiper Belt are smaller than UB313 and Pluto. They are still considered bigger than what an

a quarter the size of our own Moon. And we now know that Planet X never existed, the product
of some subtle errors in some century old mathematical calculations. While the first eight planets

Summary Of Cassady Black s Mapping Hana
A daughter s relationship to her father is crucial for their overall development as a human being.
Having a present father in one s life provides structure, and gives a woman insight on how she
allows to be treated in romantic relationships. If a woman is loved by her father and sees him treat
her mother right, then she will be more inclined to seek a man with similar qualities. However,
when the father daughter relationship is unpleasant, it can take an equally negative affect on future
relationships. Sometimes we also see that a woman can likely develop impulsive/childlike thoughts
without that guidance from a father figure. This is especially true in Mapping Hana by Cassady
Black, as the ghost of Hana s father haunted her and how she navigated her relationships. In addition
to her father s haunting , Hana was also haunted by her mental illness. The combination of an
unhealthy relationship with her father and mental illness explains the events that occurred with her
husband. From the first time that Hana and Michael met, her father played a large role in how she
felt about him. In her mind she found a man that reminded her... Show more content on

Queer Culture
In today s media, it is no longer unusual to see queers in the spotlight whether that is in TV shows,
in celebrity news, or even in advertisements. This definitely seems like a big win for the LGBTQ
movement on the surface but is society actually accepting of queer culture? A prominent big win
for activists was the legalization of gay marriagein 2015. However, many queerstudies scholars are
skeptical of the mainstream LGBTQ movement s focus on marriage rights because it is based on
homonormative politics that continues to uphold oppressive institutions and because it does not
tackle the actual underlying social issues. Instead of focusing on marriage, activists should
prioritize building coalitions based on community values and intersectionality and strive for radical
change rather than settle... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with this, heteronormative institutions, like marriage and the nuclear family structure, are
increasingly being held up as a vision of the good life (Berlant and Warner 173). Not only is this
belief deeply rooted in hetero norms, it also rejects the existence of intimacies outside the nuclear
family structure. Thus, queer public cultures, like Christopher Street in Manhattan, are needed to
provide a space for intimacies outside of marriage, such as girlfriends, gal pals, fuckbuddies, and
tricks (Berlant and Warner 175). Queer public spaces are thus needed to validate unconventional
intimacies and to elaborate a public world of belonging and transformation (Berlant and Warner
175). However, with the rise of neoliberalism, which diverts from the more transformative ideas for
a politically centered approach, some queer activists, most prominently, the Independent Gay
Forum, are opting for less radical changes. Lisa Duggan coins this as homonormativity, a politics
that does not contest dominant heteronormative

Essay about Classical Liberalism
Definition ==========
The ideology of classical liberalism is concerned with the conception of an ideal society. The term
classical refers to the early form of liberalism that flourished for much of the nineteenth century. It
sees human nature as essentially selfish but rational. Therefore the ideal society is one where
individuals have maximum freedom to pursue their own interest in competition with everyone else.
Origins =======
Origins of classical liberalism are derived from the break up of the feudal system, which allowed
people more economic freedom and allowed possible the early growth of capitalism. The fusion of
economic and political liberalism has produced a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Utilitarianism
Like Locke, utilitarians see men as individuals essentially. However Jeremy Bentham rejected the
notion of natural rights as it was nonsense on stilts and as result he developed the principle of
utility. Utility is based on the belief that man is motivated by the desire to achieve happiness and
avoid pain. It s important to note the utilitarianism definition of happiness consumption and
enjoyment of goods and property and only the provision of this is utility. The opposite of this for
example, pain is disutility.
Society for utilitarians meant free individuals pursuing their own interests as workers and
consumers and the only role the government play is as a protector of these rights, implying they
needed little intervention. Any increase in state power would only be a benefit if increasing the
total sum of utility and therefore the goal of any political system is to achieve the greatest good for
the greatest number . This heavily relies on democracy and government responsibility and
accountability and the state should be answerable to the people. In summary, there are four key
utilitarian points

Designers put so much work into their clothing. But most people don t even recognize how much
detail or even what kind of material the designer uses to create the article. Often time s people
just buy a certain piece of clothing because it s what everybody else is wearing and it s the new
fad, they really don t respect the time and effort the designer has put into the design, even more so
they buy them just for the label associated with the article of the clothing. All these things you have
to understand and try to master to become successful.
Fashion Designing is a very cutthroat and limited job, so there isn t much room for new
designers to get hired. One article states that, The fashion design world is highly competitive, so
it s somewhat difficult, though certainly not impossible, to break into the field. In general, there

Children s Responsibilities For Children
Every adult who has children knows it is a challenging experience and extremely rewarding,
especially when the children grow to be responsible, independent, caring, productive adults and
parents in their own right. After helping raise my own children, being a professional martial arts
instructor since 1979, teaching thousands of children and helping other parents raise their children
(so they tell me), here are 10 keys I feel are important to raising children successfully.
1. Leadership
Kids need a leader, someone who is strong, responsible, caring and committed to their highest and
best good. What children do not need is to be the parent to their parents. Children do not need to
be buddies, pals or best friends with their parents until they, the children, are adults. Children are
children. They need leaders to lead, guide and direct them through their early life. Those leaders
are the parents who need to take a front row in raising their kids. For children to be successful in
life, they need a strong parental foundation, one that puts them before their parent s careers,
activities, relationships and jobs. Children should never be thought of as appendages to a parent s
life. Until the children are of legal age, the children are the parent s life. When this commitment is
given to children, it is a boon to their early development and later success as responsible and
independent adults.
2. Structure
Children need structure. They need foundational guidelines. They need to

Genocide and the Propaganda Media Essay
To many Americans, the feeling of being a bystander as countries slaughter their own people has
been in legal debate since 1933, it has gradually developed into a concept that can be applied in
many situations, both historical and contemporary. The meaning of the phrase genocide is the
cleansing of a race or ethnicity in a country. There has been evidence that this phrase can be used
to describe past and present day massacres being committed around the world and how media has
changed its perception on this issue overtime. Propaganda tries to force a doctrine on the whole

photographs got out into the public view about what happened in these camps, everyone is shocked
to see so many dead bodies. With the role of media, the international response to the war crimes in
the Holocaust was to establish an international tribunal and it was agreed to punish those
responsible of crimes.
Throughout World War II, the American media published and broadcasted detailed accounts of
what was happening to the Jews in Europe. Articles published propagation of anti Semitic laws in
German allied countries; death from disease and starvation of hundreds of thousands in ghettos
and labor camps; mass executions in Nazi occupied Russia; and mass gassings. The articles also
indicated that these were not incidents, but part of a systematic campaign to kill all the Jews in
Europe The 1994 Rwandan genocide presented one of the most horrific crimes against humanity
since the Holocaust of World War II. In addition, it was also the first tragedy of its kind with the
opportunity to be represented in full by the media. Media played a different role here than in the
Holocaust, providing large coverage of the atrocities taking place Remarkably, during a genocide
that claimed as many as a million lives, this is one of the only times a killing is

Subnatial Killers In Halloween And Wes Craven s A...
In every horror film, there is always a serial killer or supernatural being terrorizing an innocent
group of individuals. Films such as John Carpenter s Halloween and Wes Craven s A Nightmare
on Elm Street involve supernaturally based serial killers who commit murders in the name of
revenge. The gory nature and explicit violence lead people to wonder why these monsters are
created. Deep in the typical human subconscious, there are fears and impulses that can only be
released through these films. When we watch horror films, we try our hardest to relate to the
victims only to find out that we are more connected to the villain. Each time the killer slits the
blonde cheerleaders throat or the demon drags the handsome football star to the greatest depths of
hell, we feel as if it is well deserved. These scenes allow us to temporarily descend into the
beautiful art of absurdity, which lies within our minds, without physically hurting another person.
Stephen King states in his essay titled Why We Crave Horror Movies that The potential lyncher is
in almost all of us (excluding saints, past and present; but then, most saints have been crazy in their
own ways), and every now and then, he has to let loose to screamand roll around in the grass. King
is implying that even the sanest man has a negative impulse stored deeply in his subconscious.
Although a person may seem sane to the public, they are capable of committing the most heinous
crimes known to humanity, and may even think

The Communication Theory Of Uncertainty Reduction Theory
Stuttering, perspiring, and feeling a dry mouth are a few things someone who has to meet and
interact with new people might experience. Interacting with new people will come with dealing
with uncertainty jitters. This research looks at the different critiques by communication scholars on
the communication theory of Uncertainty Reduction Theory. Uncertainty Reduction Theory is a
communication theory that came about through the researchof Charles Berger from the post
positivist tradition.
Charles Berger through Uncertainty Reduction Theory proposes that the beginnings of personal
relationships are filled with uncertainties. Berger suggests that anticipation of future interaction,

Using quantitative and qualitative data in a study, the researcher nulls the weaknesses (Creswell,
2014). Creswell (2014) states the core assumption of this form of inquiry is that the combination of
qualitative and quantitative approaches provides a more complete understanding of a research
problem than either approach alone . Researchers who hold different philosophical positions may
find mixed methods research to be difficult because of their different beliefs (Greene, 2007).
However, mixed methods research also represents an opportunity to change these tensions into fresh
knowledge through discovery. A pragmatic perspective draws using diverse approaches, giving
primacy to the importance of the research problem and question, and valuing both objective and
subjective knowledge (Morgan, 2007). A transformative perspective offers an orienting framework
for a mixed methods study based on creating a more just and democratic society that permeates the
entire research process, from the problem to the conclusions, and the use of results (Mertens, 2009).
Difference in Qualitative and Quantitative According to Wyse (2011) from Snap Surveys,
qualitative Research is primarily exploratory research. It is used to gain an understanding of
underlying reasons, opinions, and motivations. It provides possible answers into the problem or
helps to develop ideas or hypotheses for potential quantitative research. Qualitative Research is also

Healthy Eating Habits and Lifestyle
Healthy Eating Habits and Lifestyles

Cindy Cunningham
In today s American society, many individuals have developed unhealthy eating habits. A study
done in 2012 states fifty two percent of polled Americans thought that doing their taxes was easier
than trying to figure out how to eat healthy. There are many things that people look at as hassles to
healthy eating rather than looking at the big benefits healthy eating has on someone. Many people
think of these issues when they think of healthy eating the cost, the availability of the food, that it is
hard , they do not want to diet, and so on. Changing the eating habits of an individual ... Show more

Nate Miyaki gives an example, Of nine training sessions and thirty five meals or snacks geared
toward body composition improvement a week, that works out to about 20% accounted to physical
activity and 80% accounted to diet. Participating in regular exercise is very important but does not
mean someone should eat unhealthy. Eating unhealthy causes damage to an individuals insides.
When someone eats healthy they find themselves less tired and they also find that they have less
health issues than someone that eats unhealthy. When an individual eats better they feel better. Put
good in, get good out. So the better an individual eats the better, the more energy they have, the
more motivation they have, and they feel better as a whole. Within a week of eating healthy an
individual can begin to feel better on the inside. When an individual makes the change to eating
healthily they will notice that they feel better and have more energy. There are more ways to eat
healthier without having to diet at all.
A great food guide for an athlete to follow is the Canada s Food Guide. According to the guide an
individual needs about sixty percent carbohydrates, fifteen to twenty percent protein, and twenty to
thirty percent fat in their daily diet. Healthy eating is more than just about what an individual eats

Examples Of Structuralist Film Theory
B. Theories From a different angle of view, the ultimate aim of culture/media theories is to provide
theoretical/academic foundation to different genres within art and media. Likewise, there are
several film theories aiming to provide theoretical framework to different genres within motion
picture. Besides, these theories help to perceive the relationship between other genres within art and
Hollywood movies.
Structuralist Film Theory One can easily identify that this theory is interconnected with
structuralism, especially related to structural linguistics. This theory claims that directors basically
make use of different codes to construct meaning. For instance, different scenes are combined into
a single story with the help of editing. If editing is not done, the viewers cannot perceive the
directors codes or ideas. But in Hollywood films, utmost importance is given to editing because the
directors know that editing can provide spontaneity to their films as a whole.
Post structuralist Film Theory One can see that Post structuralism is basically an extension of
structuralism, but with differences. For instance, a viewer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The films produced during this time period provided ample importance to group activities related to
Marxism. For instance, films produced under Marxist influence provided ample importance to
working class struggles and related class wars. So, one can see that Marxist Film Theory tries to
explore the scope of group mentality, providing less importance to individual heroism. On the
other side, corporate overtone can be seen in Hollywood movies, which is totally against Marxist
ideology. Still, some traces of Marxism can be seen in the movies by Hollywood directors like
James Cameron. In short, Marxist Film Theory attempts to evaluate the scope of motion picture

The Heightening of Airport Security after September 11th
Extraordinary challenges require extraordinary measures. The terrorist attacks on
America on September 11, 2001 required that we reform our nation s aviation security system in
fundamental ways. Three years after the Sept. 11 tragedies, how far has airport and airlines come? It
depends on the source. While it is important for airports to heighten security after the attacks of 9
/11, the policies of profiling passengers are inadequate and a necessitate revision.
The most visible changes to boost airport securities may be on the airplanes themselves. Many
planes have installed bulletproof, locked cockpit doors to secure the pilot and crew from the rest of
the plane. Increased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process of screening and profiling has contributed to numerous complaints from passengers
who have been selected for additional screening. Passenger profiling at the airport should not be the
sole means of protecting our flying public from would be terrorists. If a present security measure is
found to prevent potential customers from flying without providing a meaningful prevention to
terrorism, that measure should be relaxed or eliminated. Passengers profiling should be utilized in
conjunction with information received from our intelligence community. Close examination and
revision of this system is obviously necessary.
Our current profiling system is based on a computer program that was developed several years ago.
Many people have begun submitting formal comments to the Privacy Office of the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security, urging it to stop airline passenger screening programs that are
administered by the Transportation Security Administration(TSA). These programs allow travel
authorities to access personal information about each passenger from government and commercial
databases (Privacy Activism). Authorities who rely on these systems run the risk of misidentifying
individuals and tagging them as security risks. Some passengers have even been forbidden to board
planes (Street Beat). Travel authorities believe that this sensitive data will help identify potential

Inhumane Living Conditions Of Broiler Chickens
Purpose Statement
The purpose of this paper is to explain the cruel inhuman way broiler chickens are treated. We will

to stop the mistreatment of these animals.
Living conditions
Broiler chickens are restricted to massive windowless sheds that holds tens of thousands of
chickens each. As G.KNOWLES has noted Throughout the world the majority of broilers are
reared using very similar, modem, intensive systems of production where birds are confined for
their lifetime within high density housing and reared from hatch to slaughter weight within
approximately 40 days. The detrimental effect of higher stocking densities may be more complex,

Skinner s View On Psychology And The Contrasting Views Of...
Introduction
This essay will explore B. F. Skinner s view on the focus of psychology and the contrasting view
of the mentalists. It will then go on to consider the benefits of Skinners way of seeing psychology
and thus how he was able to turn psychology into a science with measurable outcomes and bring
evidence into a subject that had become subjective and unquantifiable.
Purpose of Psychology
Skinner stated that the purpose of psychology should be the study of behaviour. He had come to
this conclusion whilst performing studies on rats. (Skinner, 1938).
Mentatlistic approach
Prior to skinner the pervading view of behaviour within psychology was concerned with thoughts
and inner feelings that were thought to directly cause behaviour.(Cooper, Heron, Heward, 2007)
Skinner thought that the study of psychology had remained unchanged for centauries and that the
subject had made virtually no progress.(Skinner, 1973)
He believed that behaviour should be studied in a scientific way rather than an introspective way.
Natural Science
Behaviour Psychology or Biology D M (1)
(Blackman, 1991) puts the case forward that the study of behaviour should come under the subject
of biology rather than psychology on the grounds that behaviour occurs naturally when
consequences are applied. Skinner had said a similar thing himself in (1963) when he considered
the choice of the placement of behaviour in the scheme of things. He said that if the mind was

Disadvantage Of Higher Education
Secondary schooling is the fulcrum or significant factor of a nation s schooling system. With
regard to the sample of secondary schooling experiments had been taking place seeing that
Independence. The ten plus two plus three device of training which was recommended with the aid
of Kothari Commission of 1965 is now being carried out in almost all the States and Union
Territories of India. This system offers for two streams the higher secondary schools; the
instructional streams paving the manner for better schooling and the vocational move of terminal
nature. However, only a few schools live been capable of offer this terminal schooling. As an end
result, schools with instructional streams still abound, thereby defeating the very motive of
reducing the extreme opposition for university schooling. In many States schooling is loose as
much as the decrease secondary degree, and in a few states training is free as much as the better
secondary stage. The higher education system in India is imparted thru about one and eighty
universities and smartly forty five hundred colleges. In addition there are several institutions
presenting specialized understanding and technical capabilities. Since training is a State challenge.
The State Governments in India are unfastened to open new university. Grants Commission is an
expert which dispenses presents to the universities. However, its formal sanction is not vital to
open a college. Taking gain of this provision many State governments in India have opened a huge
wide variety of universities in recent years. The exceptional growth in the number of students and
of educational institutions has given rise to the time period schooling explosion . No doubt, this
has led to extreme problems which includes inadequacy of economic assets and infrastructure and
dilution of private interest to the training and man or woman formation of the scholars. Also, there
is the undesirable side effect of massive increase in the wide variety of knowledgeable unemployed.
However, we can t forget about the advantages of schooling explosion in India. Mere increase in the
percentage of literate humans does now not indicate a qualitative exchange within the educational
requirements of the humans and

Orphanages In The 1800s
Attachment is vital to development. John Bowlby (1988) states, Study after study attest that
healthy, happy, and self reliant adolescents ad young adults are the products of stable homes in
which both parents give a great deal of time and attention to children (p.2). This statement has
powerful implication for children and infants without parents who spend most, if not all of their
young life in orphanages; more specifically orphanages where attention is minimal. In 1729 the
first orphanage was established in the United States. In the 1800 s orphanages grew and in the mid
1800 s charitable groups established 56 institutions for children (Bremner, 1970, p. 5). Downs

Even in places where the minority population is small the amount of children removed from their

was higher...behavioral and emotional problems were reported for a considerably smaller
proportion of Negro children... This raised the question for some professionals that whether
placement of minority group children is precipitated by poverty and lack of supportive resources,
rather than disruptive family relationships or perceived habits of the child (p. 8). The removal rate
of Native American children was high as well. Like African American children there were obvious
overlaps between removal from the home and poverty. As well during that time most social workers

Cultural And Cultural Diversity In Hey Arnold
As a kid, watching television was one of my favorite things to do. It seemed as if when the TV
was on, the world stopped moving for an hour or two. There were many shows from my childhood
that helped shape me into the person I am today, but the one that stood out amongst the rest was
Hey Arnold. The hit 90 s show Hey Arnoldenculturated children through illustrating social
acceptance, self confidence, and displaying resilience through hardships.
As a young child growing up in the late 90s/early 00s, Hey Arnold helped me become a more
culturally and socially accepting individual through the consistent exposure of different ethnicities
and family structures. For example, Arnold s grandparents housed two immigrants Mr. Hyunh
from Vietnam and Oskar Kokoshka from Czechoslovakia. These two men from two entirely
different cultural backgrounds were able to share a home, as well as guide Arnold through
several issues he faced growing up. Arnold showed a full capacity of love and acceptance for
these men s diverse race and backgrounds. Another example of the ethnic diversity in Hey Arnold
is Arnold s friends. His best friend Gerald, a young sporty African American boy, Phoebe a young
Japanese American girl, and his Jewish friend Harold are prime examples of the cultural and racial
diversity the show displayed. None of these characters were treated poorly or persecuted based on
race or culture. In the episode Harold s Bar Mitzvah , Harold is forced to abandon his friends

It is used in this novel to form a mental image to provide a picture or illustration. The story opens
with a description of Jean Valjean. The reader sees a man of middle height, stout and hardy, (Pg.

dripping with sweat. (Pg. 3) The illustration provides a visual on what the main character looks
like. It suggests that the man has been through a hard time, and that the story may follow his
journey. Once Valjean reaches the town, he tries to ask for shelter from a poor peasant family.

Another example of imagery is when he enters the church. Jean Valjean had his knapsack on his
back, his stick in his hand. The imagery offers a description of Valjean from the perspective of
the people in the church, as they see him for the first time. Valjean is shown as a harsh or sinister
with his rough, hard, tired, and fierce look in his eyes, as seen by the firelight. (Pg.

Beyond the shield of civilization and into the depths of a primitive, untamed frontier lies the true

meets the bitter, yet enlightening forces that eventually shape his outlook on lifeand his own

This is expressed at both the start and the end of the novel. The light of Marlow, and his
subsequent psychological awareness and evolution, is contrasted by Kurtz, who, as many have

Marlow s journey leads him in an urgent search for Kurtz, the one man who can provide him
with the truth about himself. Like Marlow, Kurtz came to the Congo in hopes to bring light and
civilization to a backwards society. He is a highly educated, refined gentlemen; yet, in the end, the
brutal nature of the Congo forces him to resort to the life of a murderer and pilferer. The name
Kurtz itself has symbolic meaning. The physical shortness in Kurtz implies a shortness of
character and spirit (Heart of Darkness: A systematic evaluation). Marlow and Kurtz both
symbolize the two conditions of human nature. Kurtz represents what man could become if left to
his own intrinsic devices outside protective society. Marlow represents a pure untainted civilized
soul who has not been drawn to savagery by a dark, alienated jungle. (Heart of Darkness: A

Similarly, the buyer can also hedge his position against rise in carbon credit prices. A high
volume of trading in this market helps price discovery and liquidity, and in this way helps to

Advantage India India is the second largest supplier of CERs in the world after China. Together
they control around 82% of the market. The advantage with these two countries is that they
have no obligation to reduce emissions under the Kyoto agreement and hence they have the
opportunity to invest in GHG reducing projects to earn carbon credits which can further be sold
to developed countries that have an obligation to reduce emissions. [pic] Out of the 978 projects
that have been registered under Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), 332 projects are from India. 543
projects are at various stage of validation or registration. All these projects from India are
expected to yield close to 400 million CERs by 2012. The market to buy and sell such credits is

Jack Price s Model Essay
Jack Price describes some common mistakes that students make when dealing with equations. He
suggests ways to help students minimize these mistakes. Why does he suggest that students should
have more time to work with manipulatives?
Mr. Price mentions that extending the lesson and allowing students more time to work with
manipulatives allowed them a time to develop rules to help the solve equation effectively and

Life of a Pilot Many people travel on a plane each year, but have never wondered what the people
flying the plane have done to get to this level. Becoming a pilot requires difficult work, and takes
time, mostly in the early stages of flight school. A pilot must go to school for many years, on top
of the two years of college ( Education ), and must go through many different airlines. A pilot
also must stay away from their family whenever they are flying, as they may only fly 3 days a
week, and not consecutively. Piloting is an honored and respected profession that is used to take
people around the world, it requires patience, and good math skills (Hopke).

Once a pilot is forty hours into their instrument training, they will receive their instrument
certification ( Interview with Reno ). The pilot is now able to fly in low visibility, furthermore, is
allowed to work for an airline.
With an instrument rating, a pilot can transport either good or people from Point A, to Point B
(Instrument Rating). The pilot can either remain a private pilot now, or has a choice to work for
a regional airline, who flies within the country. First, A pilot applies for interviews at many
different airlines of his choosing. The pilot is then interviewed, and is sent an offer by an
airline. If the pilot accepts the offer, he or she is then taken into their Airline Training Course ,
in which they learn the basic rules of the airline and how they operate ( Interview with Reno ).
The pilot then has one more chance to decide whether they like the airline or not, if they like it,
they will be accepted as a first officer or co pilot. The pilot then gets to pick whether he wants to fly
for the regional airline for the rest of his/her career, or if he will move to work for the main airline.
From this point forward, a pilot s daily life will become very abnormal.
At the beginning of a Pilot s day, they will have to drive to the airport. At the airport, the pilot will
go to the briefing room, with his first officer, and plan the flight. The pilot will then board the plane

What Learning Has Occurred And How This Will Influence...
Chapter 6 Overview The final section of this dissertation will focus on reflecting upon the
experience of undertaking a dissertation, what learning has occurred and how this will influence
future practice as a staff nurse working in the NHS. The author will utilise Rolfe, Freshwater
and Jasper s (2001) model. The author chose this model as it is a simpler model than Gibbs
(1998) model, Rolfe et al (2001) poses the questions What? So what? And Now what? The author
felt due to its simplicity that this model was more suited to this reflection. What? The author

So what? From completing this dissertation the author has learnt just how important research is
and how essential it is for nurses to have an in depth understanding of the care they are giving to
their patients. This dissertation has helped the author have a great knowledge on CBT and just
how effective and valuable it is in treating people who have sexually offended. Undertaking a
patchwork assessment made the author reflect upon patient care and although we may consider
an individual s care needs individually, holistic care is the ultimate aim in delivering high
quality patient care. Holistic care is seeing the patient as a physical, spiritual and psychological
whole and not just focusing on one particular area (NursingTimes.Net 2009). A patchwork text is
a type of assessment which consists of smaller sections that once put together becomes a
comprehensible and combined piece of work (Scoggins and Winter 1999). Research is essential
in all areas of nursing as nurses have a duty to ensure they are up to date with all relevant
developments in nursing and should be able to give rationale for all care they give. Nursing
research expands the evidence base and improves clinical practice (NursingTimes.Net 2014).
Nurses need to have the ability to research a subject in order to keep up to date with the ever
changing nursing practice and ultimately improve the delivery of care to our

Klinesmith, Kasser and McAndrew simultaneously studied the links between guns, (objects
associated with aggression), testosterone levels in males, and aggressive behavior. They
hypothesized that males who interacted with an object associated with aggression would have an
increase in both testosterone and aggressive behavior. To test this hypothesized they asked 30
college males to provide clean saliva samples before the experiment that would act as the baseline

After the saliva sample was taken the males were asked to interact with either a gun, or a children

While at the carnival, Fortunato spotted a woman and it was love at first sight. The two hit it

Catholic Reformation Essay
During the 16th century, Protestantism emerged as a new sect of Christianity. This process was not
calm or peaceful in the slightest. Protestant leaders like Martin Luther and John Calvin fiercely
attacked and denied traditional Catholic beliefs, causing much controversy and debate upon
religion. Many regions of Europe as a whole were converted to Protestantism, and many more
Protestants emerged in areas where Catholicism remained the state religion. The Catholic faith
became less and less appealing to people as the abuses of the clergy were now publicly addressed
by reformers and a new, personal approach to religion was offered in Protestantism. In addition,
rulers favored Protestantism as a state religion because it meant that no power... Show more content

An important declaration was that The Vulgate, a translation of the Bible into Latin made by St.
Jerome, was the only official version of the Bible. This meant that people had to know Latin to read
Scripture, so the right of individuals to have their own interpretation of Scripture was denied.
Monasticism continued to be an important practice, and the existence of purgatory was reaffirmed.
The Council of Trent set out to reaffirm and restate traditional Catholic beliefs in order to protect
against the Protestant Reformation. The members of the Council of Trent realized the unfair
abuses of the church, and called for reform. In this way, they were protecting themselves against
criticism from Protestant reformers. A drastic reform of monastic orders was launched. The
council acted against the abuse of indulgences while still upholding the principle. This meant
that indulgences could not just be sold; indulgences were granted when an individual did
something truly good. Also, bishops were to reside in their respective dioceses and attend more
carefully to their duties, exercising more control over clergy. Pluralism was checked and steps
were taken to make sure church officials were eligible for the job. In order to have an educated
clergy, the council ordered that a seminary be set up in each diocese for priest training. More
careful steps were to be taken to ensure the celibacy of clergy. The Council of Trent was able to

Descriptive Morality
For each individual human being, there are six states for a human life on a normative scale from
best to worst: first is divine which exceeds the merely human on the one extreme, second is
virtuous which is absence of wrongful desire, third is strong willed which is the ability to
overcome one s wrongful desire, fourth is weak willed which is the opposite and so the inability to
overcome wrongful desire, fifth is vicious and bestial which exceeds the merely humanon the other
extreme and are often found among barbarians. Another journal from Stanford Encyclopedia of
Philosophy on The Definition of Moralityexplains that morality can be used in two broad senses
which are descriptively to refer to certain codes of conduct put forward by a society or a group
(such as religion), or accepted by an individual for his or her own behavior, secondly, normatively
to refer to a code of conduct that, given specified conditions, would be put forward by all rational
persons there is a tricky part to morality which are not all codes that are put forward by societies
or groups are moral codes in the descriptive sense of morality, and not all codes that would be
accepted by all moral agents are moral codes in the normative sense of morality (The Definition of
Morality, 2016).
Descriptive morality focuses on the rules of etiquette as well as attitudes of an individual. These
small morals are referred to decency and appropriate in behavior, as how one man should salute or

Hazardous Train Systems
Heavy rail systems in the United States, and around the world, face a number of hazards and
vulnerabilities. For example, the Movement of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) represents a
potential environmental or chemical hazard if an accident were to occur. The 2013 Lac MГ©gantic
rail disaster exemplify this hazard. Although the trainrolled down a very slight (~1 2%) incline, the
devastation that followed was more representative of a bomb being dropped on the town rather
than a rail accident. This is, of course, an extreme instance, however, even the lesser hazards, for
example trespassing, can lead to disastrous consequences. One of the hazards faced by heavy rail
systems is there sheer size. Often consisting of several locomotives... Show more content on

Many procedures are in place to address the dangers surrounding hazardous cargo. For example,
placarding rail cars to identify contents and requiring the train s crews to carry the Material Safety
Data Sheets (MSDS) assist first responders in identifying the material in the event of an accident.
A second concern security plans must address is theft of hazardous material when a train is
parked. What prevents someone from stealing or releasing chlorine gas when a train, like the one
in Lac Megantic, is left running and unattended? Terrorists learned how to fly passenger aircraft so
it isn t beyond the realm of possibility that they are learning how to operate freight trains. These are
both serious security concerns that must be address. Again, referencing the Lac Megantic accident,
it appears the LE began his duty day at 1355 and concluded it at 2330, just 25 minutes short of a 10
hour day. This may seem insignificant, but when we consider that his duty day was primarily at
night and he was operating the train alone, these would be considered contributing, but not causal,
factors resulting in the accident. In this case, security planners might address this vulnerability by
dictating that trains operated after sunset have two crew members or limit the total duty day to 8

House In The World By Langston Hughes Analysis
Langston Hughes had a strong belief in writing and sharing what he believed no matter what
anyone thought about him. His work during the Harlem Renaissance and his view of the struggles
of colored and minorities in the United States influenced his work. In many of his writings, it is
clear that Hughes has anger towards this ideal America. He writes in his counterstatement to a
fellow African Americanpoet, An artist must be free to choose what he does, certainly, but he
must also never be afraid to do what he might choose. The expectations and idea of being a white
privilege American and chasing after the American dream is something that Hughes feels strongly
about. He feels that no one should have to change who they are to be something that society
accepts. The theme that he carries in his work is clear, the American dream is anyone s if they
pursue it, but the colored people and minorities are incapable of pursuing such a dream because of
this society that we are

Essay on Female Chauvinist Pigs
In Female Chauvinist Pigs, Ariel Levy attempts to reconcile her personal views of feminism with
its portrayal in popular culture. In order to challenge what she sees as a co opted version of
feminism, Levy raises the question of authenticity of sex positive feminism (Levy, 63) on two
levels: by selling out in terms of the body and in terms of our patriarchal culture. In order to restore
a binary relationship between feminism and non feminism, Levy recasts this sex positive feminism
as a new form of (fe)male chauvinism. To do so, Levy turns to the experiences of several young
women whom she interviews. From her interpretations of these experiences, Levy reaches the
conclusion that these women s sexual nature revolves around their need... Show more content on

This binary relationship manifests itself in Levy s work in another way, as well. Toward the
very end of the book Levy claims she has no complaint against women who do gain genuine
sexual pleasure from their vaginas waxed, their breasts enlarged (Levy, 198). On one hand, Levy
recognizes that sexuality is personal and that everyone s own experiences and preferences are
unique. Yet at the same time, by drawing the line between authentic and fake , she must
impersonally interpret these experiences in order to classify them as problematic . This desire to
judge yet not judge women s sexual nature represents an underlying tension within the book that
threatens to unravel her arguments. Levy further asserts her binary comparison in a temporal
manner by comparing the feminism of the past with the feminism of the present, as she claims in
recent years, the term feminism has fallen further and further out of favour (Levy, 86). By framing
her own views of feminism as those belonging to an earlier point in the timeline, she privileges
these views as original or authentic . Yet this does not acknowledge that the anti porn wars of the
80 s was a point at which feminism branched out, rather than transitioned from one set of beliefs to
another. As a result, the cultural changes that she observed occurred in the presence of both stances
of feminism, making it difficult to distil the cause. Levy privileges past over present in her
suggestion

This is a result of the resonance stabilized radical being formed by the homolysis of the carbon to carbon bond validating the photochromic properties. The colour change further substantiates that the desired product was produced despite the inaccuracies in melting point values. Homolytic cleavage of the dimer prepared by solvation with toluene results in a deep purple solution confirming the formation of the resonance stabilized radical. After placing in darkness the colorless solution resulted by reformation of the radical intermediates to a new thermodynamic product via C N bond at room temperature. UV Vis was conducted on the solution before and after the irradiation with sunlight: UVtoluene 554.92nm, A=0.12 before irradiation and A=1.05 after. The peak at 554.92nm corresponds to yellow/green light and its complementary colour is red/violet. This validates the solutions violet color. The increased absorbance was accounted for an increase in the radical component. The radical was formed when exposed to light, which was visually apparent with the purple coloration and proved the thermodynamic dimer was also photochromic. The naturalism that was visibly demonstrated in each of the artist work with high contrast of lighting that noticeably appeared in these paintings. Until the late 19th century many biographers and art scholars deliberately ignored Caravaggio work. Some people felt as if his work was to natural or just ordinary. (Sayre, 2010) His work of art was characterized by displaying weakness or humankind. Sometime people had a difficult time trying to figure out if his painting was religious or not. In fact the contrast in his paintings between light and dark tones was evident in the spiritual content and its representation in the painting. (Sayre, 2010) Caravaggio became ill on a beach in Port Ercole. Caravaggio passed away July 18, 1610 after battling with malaria which he fought to overcome. Rembrandt van Rijn: The Resurrection of Christ c. 1635 39 (Oil on Canvas) Description of Rembrandt Work of Art The Resurrection of Christ is from the Baroque period. This work of art portrays the sense of dramatic antagonism that Caravaggio achieved by manipulating light across full range of tones, changing the intensity and transforming its radiance this was done so that every beam and shadow expressed a dissimilar emotional content. (Sayre, 2010) In Rembrandt painting he focused on using emotional contrast between light and dark tones to emphasize the emotional difference. • 7. War Criticism Of War Is war really kind? Is war really worth countless men dying? Throughout history, war has been seen as glorious, but in reality, critics of war argue it is not. Family members die, young lives are lost every day, and many other things convey that war is ugly and negative. Authors such as Wilfred Owen(foot soldier who fought and died serving for his country in world war one), Stephen Crane(war correspondent who covered the Spanish American war), Kevin Powers(soldier who fought in Iraq), and Tim O Brien(soldier who fought in Vietnam), have written stories and poems to prove this. These authors will use imagery, irony, and structure to protest War and to illustrate how negative war is. To begin with, in the poem Dulce et Decorum Est, by Wilfred Owen, and War is Kind, by Stephen Crane, imagery is used to protest War. In the poem Dulce et Decorum Est, by Wilfred Owen, imagery is demonstrated to protest War by showing us how horrific and deadly war is. In stanza two the author states, GAS! GAS! Quick, boys! An ecstasy of fumbling.....Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light, as under a green sea (Owen). Based on the reading one can see how visual imagery is being used. Owen fought in World War One and he is trying to convey an image of the gas attack, he was a part of in this war. This is important because Owen puts these words in the poem to give an image of how he saw war and to give us a picture of how deadly the war was. Owen is protesting War by saying in his poem ... • 8. Weed Science Project Project Description: The project consisted in a quick guide that can be used as an emergency kit for new graduate students within the Plant Pathology, Physiology, and Weed Science Department. At the beginning of the program, students tend to become overwhelmed by the information provided through orientations or paperwork to be done; therefore, they might dedicate less attention to subjects as Ethic, Plagiarism, Honor Code, etc. In addition, a certain nervousness may arise, as they begin to study or hear about these concepts, due to the complexity. Things get worse when orientations are missed, because the information that can help make the transition easier is omitted. With this guide, I intended to provide a short summary, highlighting topics and tools that students should focus in the beginning, and this can be to some extent more helpful for those who have been out of the school for a long time or are coming from a different educational system. The topics recommended in the project included, Honor Code, Graduate Student Handbook, citation style, citation and grammar tools, Virginia Tech resources, code of conduct, and a link was included, so they can be easily accessed. ... As such, cases of Fourth Amendment violations should yield consistent verdicts across jurisdictions. The objective reasonableness standard adopted in Heien, however, fails to ensure uniform application of the Forth Amendment. In contrast, a categorical exclusion of evidence obtained through a mistake of law would have ensured equal application of the law and excluded inconsistency in criminal verdicts. First, under Justice Kagan s approach, one court may find a statute very hard to interpret, but give more deference to the facts of the case than another court. Second, under Justice Kagan s approach, one state may have different expectations about ambiguity or the level of legal expertise than another, which would lead to inconsistent verdicts. For instance, a state that sets a higher standard for its police force might have a higher bar for the reasonableness test than a state that lacks resources or will to supply expert police force. As such, the Heien approach will result in wide inconsistency across the fifty states, thousands of U.S. cities, and millions of municipalities. In contrast, a categorical exclusion would completely avoid inconsistency. Because an officer s mistake of law is black or white either the mistake did or did not happen accepting the categorical exclusion approach would always yield consistent results. • 10. Analysis Of Pursuit Of Happiness By Kid Cudi Pursuit of Happiness The rhetorical triangle is basically the starting point every songwriter uses to create their music. If not executed correctly the song could not be delivered right or loss in translation to the listeners. The triangle focuses on the audience, the communicator, and the message which comes together to create the content. An example of the use of the rhetorical triangle would be the song Pursuit of Happiness by Kid Cudi. This song could be interpreted in many different viewpoints based on the way you view the use of drugs and alcohol. One listener can perceive the song as a method of justifying the use of drugs, while the artist can view it as the struggles of a man trying to find true happiness and escaping his problems. With that said the rhetorical triangle could be used in many ways but only a few ways can be found to be effective. The rhetorical triangle is demonstrated accurately in this song through the uses of ethos, logos, and pathos to support the statement that not everything you believe can bring you happiness will. It could also be interpreted from the point of view of audience who the message is addressed to. One of the arguments in the song Pursuit of Happiness is the use of drugs to find happiness will only provide a temporary solution to your problems. In the song Cudi uses the lyrics Crush a bit, little bit, roll it up, take a hit Feelin lit, feelin light, 2 AM summer night, and I m on the pursuit of happiness and ... Having a present father in one s life provides structure, and gives a woman insight on how she allows to be treated in romantic relationships. If a woman is loved by her father and sees him treat her mother right, then she will be more inclined to seek a man with similar qualities. However, when the father daughter relationship is unpleasant, it can take an equally negative affect on future relationships. Sometimes we also see that a woman can likely develop impulsive/childlike thoughts without that guidance from a father figure. This is especially true in Mapping Hana by Cassady Black, as the ghost of Hana s father haunted her and how she navigated her relationships. In addition to her father s haunting , Hana was also haunted by her mental illness. However, many queerstudies scholars are skeptical of the mainstream LGBTQ movement s focus on marriage rights because it is based on homonormative politics that continues to uphold oppressive institutions and because it does not tackle the actual underlying social issues. Thus, queer public cultures, like Christopher Street in Manhattan, are needed to provide a space for intimacies outside of marriage, such as girlfriends, gal pals, fuckbuddies, and tricks (Berlant and Warner 175). Queer public spaces are thus needed to validate unconventional intimacies and to elaborate a public world of belonging and transformation (Berlant and Warner 175). The term classical refers to the early form of liberalism that flourished for much of the nineteenth century. It sees human nature as essentially selfish but rational. It s important to note the utilitarianism definition of happiness consumption and enjoyment of goods and property and only the provision of this is utility. The opposite of this for example, pain is disutility. Society for utilitarians meant free individuals pursuing their own interests as workers and consumers and the only role the government play is as a protector of these rights, implying they needed little intervention. Any increase in state power would only be a benefit if increasing the total sum of utility and therefore the goal of any political system is to achieve the greatest good for the greatest number . Children s Responsibilities For Children Every adult who has children knows it is a challenging experience and extremely rewarding, especially when the children grow to be responsible, independent, caring, productive adults and parents in their own right. After helping raise my own children, being a professional martial arts instructor since 1979, teaching thousands of children and helping other parents raise their children (so they tell me), here are 10 keys I feel are important to raising children successfully. 1. Leadership Kids need a leader, someone who is strong, responsible, caring and committed to their highest and best good. What children do not need is to be the parent to their parents. Children do not need to be buddies, pals or best friends with their parents until they, the children, are adults. Children are children. They need leaders to lead, guide and direct them through their early life. Those leaders are the parents who need to take a front row in raising their kids. For children to be successful in life, they need a strong parental foundation, one that puts them before their parent s careers, activities, relationships and jobs. Children should never be thought of as appendages to a parent s life. Until the children are of legal age, the children are the parent s life. When this commitment is given to children, it is a boon to their early development and later success as responsible and independent adults. 2. Structure Children need structure. They need foundational guidelines. They need to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Films such as John Carpenter s Halloween and Wes Craven s A Nightmare on Elm Street involve supernaturally based serial killers who commit murders in the name of revenge. The gory nature and explicit violence lead people to wonder why these monsters are created. Deep in the typical human subconscious, there are fears and impulses that can only be released through these films. When we watch horror films, we try our hardest to relate to the victims only to find out that we are more connected to the villain. Theories From a different angle of view, the ultimate aim of culture/media theories is to provide theoretical/academic foundation to different genres within art and media. Likewise, there are several film theories aiming to provide theoretical framework to different genres within motion picture. Besides, these theories help to perceive the relationship between other genres within art and Hollywood movies. Structuralist Film Theory One can easily identify that this theory is interconnected with structuralism, especially related to structural linguistics. This theory claims that directors basically make use of different codes to construct meaning. For instance, different scenes are combined into a single story with the help of editing. If editing is not done, the viewers cannot perceive the directors codes or ideas. But in Hollywood films, utmost importance is given to editing because the directors know that editing can provide spontaneity to their films as a whole. Post structuralist Film Theory One can see that Post structuralism is basically an extension of structuralism, but with differences. For instance, a viewer ... For instance, films produced under Marxist influence provided ample importance to working class struggles and related class wars. So, one can see that Marxist Film Theory tries to explore the scope of group mentality, providing less importance to individual heroism. On the other side, corporate overtone can be seen in Hollywood movies, which is totally against Marxist ideology. Still, some traces of Marxism can be seen in the movies by Hollywood directors like James Cameron. In short, Marxist Film Theory attempts to evaluate the scope of motion picture from Marxist view ... The terrorist attacks on America on September 11, 2001 required that we reform our nation s aviation security system in fundamental ways. Three years after the Sept. 11 tragedies, how far has airport and airlines come? It depends on the source. While it is important for airports to heighten security after the attacks of 9 /11, the policies of profiling passengers are inadequate and a necessitate revision. • 30. Skinner s View On Psychology And The Contrasting Views Of... Introduction This essay will explore B. F. Skinner s view on the focus of psychology and the contrasting view of the mentalists. It will then go on to consider the benefits of Skinners way of seeing psychology and thus how he was able to turn psychology into a science with measurable outcomes and bring evidence into a subject that had become subjective and unquantifiable. Purpose of Psychology Skinner stated that the purpose of psychology should be the study of behaviour. He had come to this conclusion whilst performing studies on rats. (Skinner, 1938). Mentatlistic approach Prior to skinner the pervading view of behaviour within psychology was concerned with thoughts and inner feelings that were thought to directly cause behaviour.(Cooper, Heron, Heward, 2007) Skinner thought that the study of psychology had remained unchanged for centauries and that the subject had made virtually no progress.(Skinner, 1973) He believed that behaviour should be studied in a scientific way rather than an introspective way. Natural Science Behaviour Psychology or Biology D M (1) (Blackman, 1991) puts the case forward that the study of behaviour should come under the subject of biology rather than psychology on the grounds that behaviour occurs naturally when consequences are applied. The hit 90 s show Hey Arnoldenculturated children through illustrating social acceptance, self confidence, and displaying resilience through hardships. As a young child growing up in the late 90s/early 00s, Hey Arnold helped me become a more culturally and socially accepting individual through the consistent exposure of different ethnicities and family structures. For example, Arnold s grandparents housed two immigrants Mr. Hyunh from Vietnam and Oskar Kokoshka from Czechoslovakia. These two men from two entirely different cultural backgrounds were able to share a home, as well as guide Arnold through several issues he faced growing up. Arnold showed a full capacity of love and acceptance for these men s diverse race and backgrounds. Another example of the ethnic diversity in Hey Arnold is Arnold s friends. His best friend Gerald, a young sporty African American boy, Phoebe a young Japanese American girl, and his Jewish friend Harold are prime examples of the cultural and racial diversity the show displayed. The Catholic faith became less and less appealing to people as the abuses of the clergy were now publicly addressed by reformers and a new, personal approach to religion was offered in Protestantism. In addition, rulers favored Protestantism as a state religion because it meant that no power... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An important declaration was that The Vulgate, a translation of the Bible into Latin made by St. Jerome, was the only official version of the Bible. This meant that people had to know Latin to read Scripture, so the right of individuals to have their own interpretation of Scripture was denied. Monasticism continued to be an important practice, and the existence of purgatory was reaffirmed. The Council of Trent set out to reaffirm and restate traditional Catholic beliefs in order to protect against the Protestant Reformation. The members of the Council of Trent realized the unfair abuses of the church, and called for reform. In this way, they were protecting themselves against criticism from Protestant reformers. A drastic reform of monastic orders was launched. The council acted against the abuse of indulgences while still upholding the principle. This meant that indulgences could not just be sold; indulgences were granted when an individual did something truly good. Also, bishops were to reside in their respective dioceses and attend more carefully to their duties, exercising more control over clergy. Pluralism was checked and steps were taken to make sure church officials were eligible for the job. In order to have an educated clergy, the council ordered that a seminary be set up in each diocese for priest training. More careful steps were to be taken to ensure the celibacy of clergy. The Council of Trent was able to eliminate many abuses of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Descriptive Morality For each individual human being, there are six states for a human life on a normative scale from best to worst: first is divine which exceeds the merely human on the one extreme, second is virtuous which is absence of wrongful desire, third is strong willed which is the ability to overcome one s wrongful desire, fourth is weak willed which is the opposite and so the inability to overcome wrongful desire, fifth is vicious and bestial which exceeds the merely humanon the other extreme and are often found among barbarians. Another journal from Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy on The Definition of Moralityexplains that morality can be used in two broad senses which are descriptively to refer to certain codes of conduct put forward by a society or a group (such as religion), or accepted by an individual for his or her own behavior, secondly, normatively to refer to a code of conduct that, given specified conditions, would be put forward by all rational persons there is a tricky part to morality which are not all codes that are put forward by societies or groups are moral codes in the descriptive sense of morality, and not all codes that would be accepted by all moral agents are moral codes in the normative sense of morality (The Definition of Morality, 2016). Descriptive morality focuses on the rules of etiquette as well as attitudes of an individual. These small morals are referred to decency and appropriate in behavior, as how one man should salute or treat another or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Hazardous Train Systems Heavy rail systems in the United States, and around the world, face a number of hazards and vulnerabilities. For example, the Movement of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) represents a potential environmental or chemical hazard if an accident were to occur. The 2013 Lac MГ©gantic rail disaster exemplify this hazard. Although the trainrolled down a very slight (~1 2%) incline, the devastation that followed was more representative of a bomb being dropped on the town rather than a rail accident. This is, of course, an extreme instance, however, even the lesser hazards, for example trespassing, can lead to disastrous consequences. One of the hazards faced by heavy rail systems is there sheer size. Often consisting of several locomotives... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many procedures are in place to address the dangers surrounding hazardous cargo. For example, placarding rail cars to identify contents and requiring the train s crews to carry the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) assist first responders in identifying the material in the event of an accident. A second concern security plans must address is theft of hazardous material when a train is parked. What prevents someone from stealing or releasing chlorine gas when a train, like the one in Lac Megantic, is left running and unattended? Terrorists learned how to fly passenger aircraft so it isn t beyond the realm of possibility that they are learning how to operate freight trains. These are both serious security concerns that must be address. Again, referencing the Lac Megantic accident, it appears the LE began his duty day at 1355 and concluded it at 2330, just 25 minutes short of a 10 hour day. This may seem insignificant, but when we consider that his duty day was primarily at night and he was operating the train alone, these would be considered contributing, but not causal, factors resulting in the accident. In this case, security planners might address this vulnerability by dictating that trains operated after sunset have two crew members or limit the total duty day to 8 ... • 49. House In The World By Langston Hughes Analysis Langston Hughes had a strong belief in writing and sharing what he believed no matter what anyone thought about him. His work during the Harlem Renaissance and his view of the struggles of colored and minorities in the United States influenced his work. In many of his writings, it is clear that Hughes has anger towards this ideal America. He writes in his counterstatement to a fellow African Americanpoet, An artist must be free to choose what he does, certainly, but he must also never be afraid to do what he might choose. The expectations and idea of being a white privilege American and chasing after the American dream is something that Hughes feels strongly about. He feels that no one should have to change who they are to be something that society accepts. The theme that he carries in his work is clear, the American dream is anyone s if they pursue it, but the colored people and minorities are incapable of pursuing such a dream because of this society that we are ... • 50. Essay on Female Chauvinist Pigs In Female Chauvinist Pigs, Ariel Levy attempts to reconcile her personal views of feminism with its portrayal in popular culture. In order to challenge what she sees as a co opted version of feminism, Levy raises the question of authenticity of sex positive feminism (Levy, 63) on two levels: by selling out in terms of the body and in terms of our patriarchal culture. In order to restore a binary relationship between feminism and non feminism, Levy recasts this sex positive feminism as a new form of (fe)male chauvinism. To do so, Levy turns to the experiences of several young women whom she interviews. From her interpretations of these experiences, Levy reaches the conclusion that these women s sexual nature revolves around their need... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This binary relationship manifests itself in Levy s work in another way, as well. Toward the very end of the book Levy claims she has no complaint against women who do gain genuine sexual pleasure from their vaginas waxed, their breasts enlarged (Levy, 198). On one hand, Levy recognizes that sexuality is personal and that everyone s own experiences and preferences are unique. Yet at the same time, by drawing the line between authentic and fake , she must impersonally interpret these experiences in order to classify them as problematic . This desire to judge yet not judge women s sexual nature represents an underlying tension within the book that threatens to unravel her arguments. Levy further asserts her binary comparison in a temporal manner by comparing the feminism of the past with the feminism of the present, as she claims in recent years, the term feminism has fallen further and further out of favour (Levy, 86). By framing her own views of feminism as those belonging to an earlier point in the timeline, she privileges these views as original or authentic . Yet this does not acknowledge that the anti porn wars of the 80 s was a point at which feminism branched out, rather than transitioned from one set of beliefs to another. As a result, the cultural changes that she observed occurred in the presence of both stances of feminism, making it difficult to distil the cause. Levy privileges past over present in her suggestion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Comparing The Grimm Brothers And The Little Mermaid Contrasting the Grimm brother s version and Disney s version of The Little Mermaid. Although both stories follow along with the same idea, they are entirely two different stories. Having lesser detail, the original fairy tale was very short and only gave the main character a name, a back story, and a goal. Disney s interpretation was more decorated and told a much longer, kid friendly story. The Grimm Brothers created a dark and simple fairy tale that was full of unexpected twists and turns.
