What is your story?
Telling your story is pertinent to identifying
funding sources:
 People - Who do you serve?
 Markets - What sector of community do you
impact?
 Numbers - How many need your service?
By Catherine Mayokun Olukotun
 The impact is important to validate the
purpose of your organization, your mission
and the people you serve
 Ability to identify the impact in monetary
value of the programs provided
 For example, if provision of scholarship to
some less privileged children to create a
better life? What amount of the monetary
value is the foundation providing that the
government or other institutions don’t have
to provide?
 A business plan is critical; scale back or scale up
according to finances
 Establish a strong communication platform and
actions
 Demonstrate the impact of your program activities:
 What services?
 Who are the beneficiaries
 How will these components add to your
organization’s profitability
 How will the African economy improve as a
result of your work
