Running head: MARKETING ANALYSIS OF SONIC PDA 1000
Marketing Analysis of Sonic PDA 1000
Abstract
The purpose of this group project is to provide the members of LU BUSI 520 Delta Group with a
patterned professional forecasting model for research and analysis of a prospective new product.
The new product will be the Sonic 1000 PDA; a fictitious product formulated especially for this
mock up analysis (Kotler, Keller, 2009). Through experiential collaboration, the members of Delta
Group should gain needed insight into the potential quandaries that are mutually shared by many of

We will be targeting several different markets that we feel have potential either due to great need
for the product or available disposable income and status.
Mission Statement Sonic believes that the Sonic 1000 PDA is versatile and user friendly and is
the best way to keep you in touch with your life.
Competitive Strategy Sonic should endeavor to use Porter s generic competitive strategy of
differentiation as its overall strategy. Versatility and ease of use are what Sonic will provide to
the consumer. Our secondary strategy should be focus, we will key in on a few different market
segments which we feel are high profile markets and deserving of attention. Sonic s pricing
could be our greatest asset. According to Levitt, in his article, Marketing Myopia, Henry Ford
had a strategy which included mass production, but that first and foremost one must never place
the profit lure from this production above thinking about your customer. Henry Ford worked
from the idea that he could produce his invention, the car for $500, and therefore because it was
priced reasonably could expect to sell millions of cars. His focus was not on mass production, but
what the consumer could afford to pay for his product, and then he worked to produce it for that
amount. (Levitt, 2004, p. 144). This probably would be a wise decision for Sonic, especially
during this unstable economy we are facing.
Target Markets Sonic s primary target market will be business

3. The Importance Of Gay Rights In America
Freedom The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. In
America we are all free, but not exactly because some are born into a harder life of less freedom.
While some people say that others can t be born gay, it is not that way because of hatred, wants,
and what you re taught.
In general, people want to be loved, so why would some choose to be gay and then hated by people
who don t even know them, and even worse sometimes even their family. People come out as
gay to their family and friends, trusting them to accept them because they love them for who they
are. Yet, in a lot of homes it doesn t always turn out that way. According to this link to
gallup.com, 51% of Americans think people are born gay and accept them. That means the other

never succeed. Why might that be? Because, you see, they never chose in the first place.
Everyone has freedom to speak there mind and some think that people can t be born gay because,
they were just taught differently and grew up into it. People may think that because usually gay
people don t come out until they re older. People are born gay but it also might take them a while

4. The Importance Of Extreme Work
Extreme work in organisations
The main focus of this argument is on how extreme work is moving into everyday organisational
domains and why might this be something we should be concerned about. The first question that
comes to our mind is; are extreme jobs and extreme work the same subject? Jobs involving the
constancy of extreme working, with work spilling over a range of temporal, spatial and social
boundaries, refusing containment, as evidenced in the growth of corporate overwork cultures
(Bozkurt, 2015) whereas extreme work is work that is being carried out in dangerous, high
pressure, unpredictable, risky situations (Bloomfield Dale 2015). Although only extreme jobs are
supposed to have extremity in the work place, nowadays even normal jobs have phases in which
they have to handle a lot of extreme work. These phases effect the working of the management
drastically in many ways, both positively and negatively. The rapid increase of extreme working
conditions in normal jobs is a paramount issue, thus the question; why is extreme work moving into
our everyday organisational domains hits us.
Even in the occupations not known for intense, dirty or risky work tasks, there is a growing sense
in which normal workplaces are becoming extreme , especially in relation to work intensity, long
hours cultures and the normalizing of extreme work behaviours and cultures (Granter, McCann and
Boyle, 2015); like the work of a shopkeeper at Apple, when a new product is launched

5. The Severity Of Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is the only form of cancer that is rapidly increasing each year in the United States,
supported by the fact that every 20 seconds someone is diagnosed with skin cancer, and one
person dies nearly every hour (Siegel, Victoria, P 117.) Skin cancer is growing and a multitude of
people are constantly being diagnosed. It is the nurses responsibility to inform their patients about
skin cancerwhile they are in for a check up. Nurses spend more time with their patients than doctors
do, therefore they could educate them and look for possible skin lesions. In order to understand the
severity of skin cancer, professors must educate nursing students on the causes, treatments and ways
to detect and prevent skin cancer.

6. The Plant Of A Pipeline
Introduction
Pigging is a critical activity in the commissioning and operation of a pipeline; oil, gas, water or
otherwise. For flow assurance the pipeline needs to be cleared of debris and checked for defects,
tasks pigs were designed for. The pig needs a method of entering and exiting the pipeline, so a
mobile or fixed launcher and receiver are utilised depending on the exact requirements.
Pig Launching and Receiving Basics
A pig launcher and receiver, also known as a pig trap, are equipment designed to pump in the pig
through the pipeline system and to retrieve the pig at the end of the operation. They can be mobile
(pigging of construction section) or fixed in the pipeline system. The location of the launcher is
located at the upstream end of the pipeline system, near the pump or compressor, while the receiver
is at the end of the system.
The launcher can be installed in a horizontal, vertical or inclined position. Most are installed
horizontally to ease the operation and it is therefore the most preferable. However, due to space
limits, vertical or incline pig traps are often considered. The launcher, receiver and all related
equipment are designed, manufactured and tested according to the pipeline and vessel code
standards e.g.; NACE, ASME VIII, BS 5500, ANSI, ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, etc.
A pig trap is essential to get a potential result of product saving. It means that there is no
requirement for adding an extensive line flushing as the pig cleaned out the

Is this is this not enough? he muttered, hands trembling.
He clenched his outstretched hand around the severed lips, recalling the lurid scene from which
they had come. The blood that likely still slunk from step to step ... the pearly white, up rolled

Benjamin stood slowly, his face steely and speckled with stale anger.
Alright, he sighed, making a stride past the hulking dog and into the bedroom.
The room was musty and dimly lit. A heavy curtain was drawn across the only window, allowing

When others look at someone, multiple things are processed in the brain at one time. How that
individual looks, the color of their skin, and even favorable features they have. What we truly see
outside of the natural cognitive process is based on our own experiences with other individuals.
Our familiarity with situations as well as general perceptions of people can determine how we
view one another. In this day and age popular culture has undoubtedly affected our natural view of
the individual. When thinking about large groups of people, we categorize them by societal

heathen. He looks abroad upon nature, but knows little, or nothing, of nature s God. The
kidnappers very often seize the children while they are at play, when their parents are absent,
carry them to the boats in the rivers, and then to the slave ships that are at anchor, or lying to,
not a great way off. They then take them over the seas to South America, to the West Indies, and
even to the United States, never, never to return to their native land as freemen. There they sell
them as slaves, and there they have to work, and suffer, and weep. O, how my heart bleeds for

people from that continent looked like and how they lived. The image had savage and wilderness
filled overtones that took away any sort of civilized tendencies that the African may have had.

To what extent is the prime minister first among equals?
This essay will compare the prime ministerial styles of Thatcher and Blair and compare presidential
styles to collective cabinet government. It explains what can happen when a prime minister has too
much power and is more than just first among equals. It concludes that in recent years the prime
minster has exerted too much power and is ignoring his cabinet.
By the 1830s the Westminster system of what we now as cabinet government emerged. The head of
the government is the prime minister. Leech et al define the prime minister as: A head of
government whose power normally derives in Britain from leadership of the largest party in the
legislature, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mo Mowlem and Clare Short were secretly annoyed and frustrated about cabinet meetings and
discussions and also the allowance of a spin doctors to attend cabinet meetings (Heffernan, 2006
as cited in Casey 2009). Short later stated there was no collective just diktats (BBC News Online,
2003). Weller (2003) argued this led to questions as to where government fitted in within
Thatcher and Blair s respective times in power. Weller (2003) further stated Thatcher did not
want a cabinet by committee but government by her with selected ministers. Coxell et al (1997)
give an example of Thatcher s power when she ignored the advice from the top military advisors
and chose to deploy troops to the Falklands. Furthermore, in 1986 she allowed the USA to use
British military bases to bomb Libya, it later emerged the defence secretary of the time George
Younger and the cabinet had no knowledge of this arrangement with the USA.
At present we have a coalition government in power. Leech et al state that in practice prime
ministerial power may vary based on the individual prime minister who has the ability to exploit
his cabinet (pp.201 205). This can clearly be seen in our current coalition government. Cameron
does not have the political power to exploit his government as he needs to please his party.
However, in Cameron s case this also includes the party which he is in coalition with. Therefore, the
prime minister has to include others

14. Analysis Of Consider The Lobster
Consideration: thoughtful of the rights and feelings of others
How do you consider the lobster? David Foster Wallace wrote the essay Consider the Lobster. After
the reading, the essay for the first time the thoughts that went through my head consisted of how the
lobsters were treated and what Wallace thought of the lobsters. The lobsters are chosen out of
usually a pot or a giant tank and then boiled to death. They are placed into a pot of boiling hot
water and the saying that the lobsters are screaming in the pot comes to be true. Some people find
it disturbing to listen to the sound while others cover the pot and not let it bother them. Also, from
the first reading I thought that Wallace was being somewhat hypocritical because I got the idea that
it was acceptable for him to eat and coo ketch lobsters but seeing it done in the setting of a
restaurant, in a larger quantity makes it worse. Gathering all this information again had made me
rethink the essay and look towards the deeper meaning. Wallace committed suicidein 2008 due to
mental illness. So, when we consider the lobster does it mean that to be considerate of it? Another
point I came to was about was mental illness and how in 2008 Wallace committed suicide. When
lobsters are chosen and boiled to eat, those people are sending them to their grave . So, what does
being considerate consist of when discussing a lobster, a dead body and the food we are about to

more about cannabisthan most substances we eat or pharmaceutical medications we intake. Based
on my research there are many therapeutic effects and healing abilities of the drug that help with
disease and mental illness. People have developed and used marijuana for all intents and purposes
since the start of written history. Cannabisbased materials dating to 7,000 B.C.E. have been

16. Depression And Depression In The Bell Jar By Sylvia Plath
Depression is like drowning in a pool of water and there is absolutely no escape from it. In The
Bell Jar, written by Sylvia Plath, the main character, Esther Greenwood goes through the awful
troubling depths of depression. The Bell Jar goes back in time beginning in the summer of 1953
and follows the story of Esther Greenwood. Esther should be having the time of her life having
won an internship in New York City, but the unfortunate truth is that she is slowly falling further
into a deep depression. Sylvia Plath strongly incorporates metaphors, internal conflict, and
symbolism to reveal the theme that despite the hardships and awful drowning thoughts that
plague people s mind, life does get better, if only people don t lose hope. To begin with, Sylvia
Plath successfully incorporates internal conflict to reveal that Esther doesn t know what to do
with herself after not getting accepted into the writing program of her dreams, which is also
when she starts falling into her deep depression. According to author Kirsty Grocott, the illness
is [Esther s] reality and everything outside [Esther s] own head feels flimsy and unreal (Grocott,
Sylvia Plath s Bell Jar Still Haunts Me ). Esther feels unsure of what she wants to do with her
life. Esther saw her life as if it was a fig tree. She saw one fig as a husband and a happy home and
children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor (Plath
Sylvia 77). Esther seems paralyzed on what fig she wants to choose. It appears as if she wants
all of them, but she realizes that if she only chooses one she can t have the rest. Esther appears
bewildered because she doesn t know what life choice to make. The hardships that Esther is
enduring appears to be too much for her to handle. Secondly, Sylvia Plath strongly utilizes a
beating heart as a metaphor to disclose how Esther just can t find the will to succumb to her
depression. When decides to go to the beach on a double date, the thought of drowning herself
profoundly crossed her mind. As she was swimming in the ocean she thought: that drowning must
be the kindest way to die...but as I paddled on, my heartbeat boomed like a dull motor in my ears, I
am, I am, I am (Plath 157 158). It

annual averages are deceptive because they conceal the substantial seasonal temperature disparities

A few major rivers are: Missouri, Red River of the North, Sheyenne, and the Mouse River. Major

This intensification results from the lessening distance to the Gulf of Mexico which is the water

categorized into three different groups: positive, negative, and contrast ads. In the Introduction
section of her paper, O Donnell provided an argument for the pros and cons of each sponsor using

Additionally, there were a few weaknesses within the paper that left significant obscurities. First,
although O Donnell s introduction was well written and provided support for her hypotheses, it
was largely centralized on the effects of negative advertisement, only briefly touching on the
other aspects of her research such as the effects of positive and contrast ads. Further, some
contradictions were found in the introduction. For example, on page 2, O Donnell states that
PACs legally have to be affiliated with a specific campaign, however O Donnell negates this on
page 4 where she says that PAC sponsored ads are... not directly associated with the campaign.
This contradiction was detrimental to understanding O Donnell s second hypothesis. Second, for
people who do not have a background in statistics, O Donnell s methodology and results are
difficult to follow. Because O Donnell does not spend much time describing the statistical
procedure and resulting data such as test statistics and lambda values, it was difficult for me, as
someone who does not have a vast background in the subject, to follow the paper. However, I do
know that O Donnell s research was largely meant to be read by intellectuals with an avid
understanding of statistics. Further, if O Donnell provided more statistical analysis rather than

Arnold Kettle s interpretation of Shakespeare s King Lear and his misfortune, especially when
looking at Lear s reaction to the storm in Act 3, Scene 4. Renaissance.. Kettle s assertion of Lear
s development through experience and action are relevant when considering Act 3. 4. 6 23: the
writer uses Leer s dissolution and critical revaluation in the storm to promote the idea of literal
engagement. Throughout lines 1 9, Lear s rise begins when he physically faces a storm as a
homeless person a complete contrast of an image of a powerful king, promoting a platform upon
which Lear s reconstruction can begin. Interestingly enough, the storm s purpose serves to
enlightenment Lear, in order to force re evaluate about his current focus point. He has misplaced
his priorities, which echoes in the statement: But where the greater malady is fixed, The lesser is
scarce felt. Lear admits to the psychological weakness of trying to hold onto his pride through his
daughters his distorted definition of himself. We are once again... Show more content on

Tis a lie, I am not ague proof. Most importantly, Lear has come to terms with the fact that he is
not a god, an important distinction which Shakespeare uses to enable Lear to define his body. A
humility which negates the idea that he is some sort of divine being capable of manipulating the
weather. Therefore, Lear has learnt to separate himself from an unnatural and illogical society.
This is done when Lear s perception changes about the natural world which refuses to come to his
rescue. This influences Lear to disregard the fact that he is no way divine, enabling him to relate
himself to those which he perceived as lower. This idea is further expressed in Act 3. 4, 102 9. Now
that he has learnt his new reality through the storm, Lear is enabled to identify humans according to
their most fundamental characteristics. This is evident when the King accurately identifies the true
nature of the disguised

21. India And Pakist An Ideal Comparative Pair Essay
In 1947, India and Pakistan became newly independent states, leaving behind British colonial rule.
Due to the shared geographical location, background and culture between these nations, these two
countries have often been compared against each other. However, since earning independence, India
and Pakistan have undergone significantly different political trajectories. This paper will explore
various factors that have impacted the nation building of these countries and understand why India
has been successful in practicing democracy, while Pakistanhas been afflicted with military and
autocratic governments. India and Pakistan share cultures and histories yet have stark differences
in political regime type, making an ideal comparative pair for inquiry.
Historical Narrative
Oldenburg describes India and Pakistan as fraternal twins due to their shared levels of extreme
poverty and extreme inequality in 1947. However, the struggle to be free of British rule was
distinct which set a vital precedent for the subsequent regimes of Pakistan and India. The British
withdrawal was hasty due to their realization they could no longer afford to hold on to its over
extended empire. One of the main reasons for the creation of a separate Muslim nation in the
Indian subcontinent was due to the conflicting religious views of Hindus and Muslims. These
issues had existed prior to British colonial rule, however the differences were exacerbated by
British policy. Britain as a colonizer, followed

23. Compare And Contrast Eukaryotic And Photosynthesis
When comparing photosynthesis and cellular respiration in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells you
must first understand what the two are and why they are important. Photo meaning light and
synthesis meaning making. So, photosynthesis is converting sunlight into a chemical energy
source. Mostly to obtain energy is its main purpose, but there is a formula to follow when dealing
with photosynthesis. The formula is carbon dioxideplus water with the presence of chlorophyll and
sunlight reacting to glucose giving you glucose, water, and oxygen. There are two stages of
photosynthesis and they are light dependent and the light independent meaning exactly what they

Or receive energy. The process of occurs when plants absorb energy from the sun then that energy
is transferred to humans and animals. Photosynthesis occurs in eukaryotic cells by Chloroplast.
Chloroplast is known as plastid meaning storing materials for energy production. Chloroplasts
main job is for making amino acids and lipids needed for production. Algae is a good example of
where you can find chloroplast. When looking at chloroplast the appearance would be a green
pigment known as chlorophyll. Chlorophyll absorbs light energy for production. In plant
chloroplast which are commonly found in plant leaves have different structures each of them being
important. The membrane envelope contains lipids for protection, and keeping chloroplast closed
regulates what goes in and out of the cell. The system that converts light energy to chemical energy
is through the function thylakoid system. The fluid that is inside the membrane envelope and the
outside of the thylakoid is called the stroma. The chloroplast has mainly two steps in the process of
photosynthesis in plant cells. The first one is energy transferring known as the light dependent or
light reactions. the second step is carbon fixation reactions known as the dark reactions. The three

Why a site listing world immigrants to VDL/Tasmania to 1900?
Tasmania has been populated by Aboriginal people since time immemorial. It was known
internationally from the 1642 until 1853 as Van Diemen s Land (VDL). From 1853, with the
cessation of convict transportation from the British Empire, it became known as Tasmania.
At the 1996 Census, 13,873 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people registered as living in
Tasmania (ABS 1301.6 Tasmanian Year Book, 2000), and in 2010 just over 500,000 people were

29. White Christmas Literary Devices
Dreaming of A White Christmas was written by Bing Crosby during the year of 1942. This
typical song has a different hook that got my attention. The title was the hook for me because it
said Dreaming of A White Christmas it s a very different title to other songs. Bing Crosby wrote
this song because he had a purpose to tell parents and us they key memories. Key memories of
the holiday season that most people love and cherish. This song had some literary devices I
wanted to discuss. One of the literary devices that got my attention was imagery. This song has
imagery because in (1:1) it say White Christmas this makes me imagine the snow falling during
the time in December. You can also imagine people having fun, spending time with their family
during a White Christma. Another imagery that many people can imagine is (1:6) With every
Christmas card i write it makes you imagine. It gives you a sense of people sending Christmas
cards to their family or to special people. The last imagery is my favorite one. Its is (1:12) To hear

Bing Crosby used rhyming to make the song have a beat to it. In (1:1,2) this is rhyming going

rhyming with this song. In (1: 3) you can also find rhyming their with the words treetops glisten
and children listen. The writer made a good job because if treetops glisten children will listen.
Most of his rhymes are typical human extinct. The rhyming that got me curious was the rhyming in
(1: 6,7,8) because he ended all his sentences with words that rhyme and he did not do that with his
other lyrics. This one literary device that got me

30. Reconciliation Between Trauma And Healing And Reconciliation
Many scholars insist on that fact that when it comes to peace building healing and need to go
together, especially when the groups that have engaged in violence against each other continue to
live together. There is an interactive linkage between trauma healing and reconciliation. The
beginning of healing is generally considered to enhance the possibility of reconciliation, while
reconciliation furthers the possibility of healing. The processes of reconciliation and healing
actually appear to be cyclical and reinforce each other, from one generation to the next, ultimately
contributing to the prevention of future violence. First, reconciliation processes can be demanding
both cognitively and emotionally. Hence, it is important that immediate emotional needs are
attended to. In the words of Hizkias Assefa, Individuals need to heal from wounds that result from
being harmed, but also from having harmed others, or being a member of a group that has harmed
others. In Assefa s study in order for reconciliation to take place, perpetrators and members of the
perpetrator group who may not have engaged in violence also need to heal. However as
reconciliation begins, it can, in turns, contribute to the healing process for survivors. There are
several mechanisms that lead to great outcomes. First, the reconciliation process generally increases
the feeling of security, which facilitates further healing easier. Reconciliation activities may also
help make sense of injuries and

Abstract
The SAARC region with over a billion populations is contiguous to the Indian Ocean, Bay of
Bengal and the Arabian Sea. Utilization of ocean resources for power generation such as tidal,
thermal solar and wind for energy, along with other green technologies like seaweed farming and
sustainable fisheries for food would need to be incorporated in a broad framework for the region.
Development of ocean based energy systems can be integrated with early warning networks linked
by satellite which can give a few hours to days warning to help mitigate the severity of natural
disasters on human life. . Some of the calamities of note have been the Tsunamiof 2004, Bangladesh
and Orissa floods, earthquakes in Nepal and Pakistan, and recent inundation of Chennai due to
weather and bad flood management. A SAARC comprehensive Framework on disaster management

The company set out to insure brick and frame homes at first. Initially, 5,000 homes were insured
by Barbon s agency. After Barbon s initial success, many similar companies followed suit. Much
like most economic trends, success is ultimately followed by competition. At first, each property
insurance company employed their very own fire unit to fight the impending hazards. They also
began distributing Fire insurance marks to their customers. These marks were displayed above
doorways to represent ownership of fire insurance. This way, the employed fire unit would know
what houses to save in the event of an incident. This system was soondubbed a bad idea, as rival
units often ignored burning buildings once they discovered they did not carry their partner s
insurance policy. Eventually, a solution was agreed upon in which all the insurance companies
would pay their resources to a municipal authority. This authority would then use the combined
money and equipment to fight all fires throughout the territory. This did not solve the problem
entirely, as the different units still tended to favor saving insured buildings to those without any

mother, who attempts to avenge her son s injury. Even after Beowulf defeats the mother, the town

because he slays the fire breathing demon. Alas this is Beowulf s final battle, as he dies... Show

In Beowulf, the light is found in the mead hall. However, Tolkien also makes clear goodness can
not exist without evil, and all outside forces want to destroy the happiness. He relates this to the
building of the mead hall, and how its creation calls Grendel into existence. Human civilization
(or heroic warriors) can be seen as light, and Grendel, who is the physical embodiment of
darkness, is the evil trying to destroy mankind. Even after the evil is defeated, one can only hold
back defeat from evil for so long because it always comes back. This concept is similar to the yin
yang, because you can not have one without the other. Tolkien s interpretation is the addresses the
coexistence of good and evil impeccably because he connects it directly to the plot, making it the

40. Historical Elements Of Magical Realism
Magical realism combines cultural and historical realities with magic to create a normal yet
magical setting in a story.Magical realism can include aspects of the mundane and even
metamorphosis can be seen throughout stories of magical realism. It is important to know the
different aspects magical realism attains. These attributes are expressed throughout the stories,
Bless Me, Ultima, A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings , and The Handsomest Drowned Man
in The World Many magical realism stories contain elements of historical and cultural realities
interwoven with magical details. These cultural and historical elements is what makes the story
feel real. In Bless Me, Ultima cultural and historical realities are present throughout the story, in
chapter seven these realities are present as the book quotes, Finally the war was over. At school
the teachers gathered in the hall and talked excitedly, and some hugged each other. Our Miss
Maestas came in and told us the war was over, and she was happy....My three brothers would be
coming home, and I yearned for them. Andrew wrote....They wanted to come home together;
they had gone to war together. This quote is an example of historical reality, as the war in the
book Bless Me, Ultima is referring to World War 2 which actually occurred in our world giving it
a historical reality the quote also gives a sense of excitement and comfort as the war is over and
there is celebration happening, this would also tie to cultural

41. Research Paper On Sparta
Sparta was known in Greek as Sparti. The city lied at the southern end of the central Laconia
plain, on the right bank of the Eurotas River. Its population was about 100,000 and it was located
in the Laconia region. It had a fairly temperate but very dry climate. Sparta s also depended on
agriculture for their sustenance. They had a mandatory military service. Their system of leadership
was Oligarchic and their descendants were mostly the descendants of the Dorian invaders. Athens,
on the other hand, was the largest capital city of Greece. Its citizens were about 140,000. The region
in which Athens was situated was Attica. The city of Athens had a Mediterranean climate.
Athenians depended on trade and agriculture for survival. They did not have a military based
system. They practiced Democracy and their descendants were mostly from Ionian descent. (Diffen,

Sparta, in Athens, males were not obliged to join the armed forces they had the opportunity to

They didn t also associate with people outside their territories. Family ties in Athens however,
were much stronger. Women were officially dependents of their spouses or their fathers. Women
in Athens had no right to own an asset apart from their family. In Sparta, women enjoyed more
privileges than women in the other Greek countries did. Women in Sparta were stronger and they
formed close relations with their men as they chose. Women could also possess their own assets.
In the Athenian region females worked on house chores such as cooking or weaving but in Sparta,
the females were free of all of such chores. (Differ,

There are times when I don t understand you. But sometimes I wonder if I ever understood you

43. Comparison Of Racism In American History X And Romper Stero
American History X, directed by Tony Kaye, and Romper Stomper, directed by Geoffrey Wright,
share similar themes, of racism/ extremism, violence and the influence of idols/ gangs on the
impressionable. In both films, the outsiders (Mexicans and Asian immigrants) are terrorised and
beaten by Neo Nazi Skinheadgangs in America (Los Angeles) and Australia (Melbourne). Both
texts are also set in a similar timeframe, this being the 80 s/ 90 s, reflecting the social issues of the
era.
Racism and extremism are depicted clearly in both American History X and Romper Stomper,
accentuated through violent and hateful dialogue. Flashbacks are clearly used to establish the
creation and reason for these racist thoughts and extremist behaviour in American History X.
These flashbacks are shown in black and white, symbolising the state of mind the antagonist
(Derek) was in. He is presented as narrow minded, at the height of his ideology and can only see
things in right or wrong, black or white. Once Derek realises and loathes his wrongs, he sees in
colour, a clever use of film techniques used by Kaye. The violence portrayed in both films is also
similar in the way that the Neo Nazi gangs of LA and Melbourne terrorise minorities and believe
that Mexican (American History X) and Vietnamese (Romper Stomper) immigrants are swarming
into their western suburbs, buying up local businesses and crowding out the established residents.

46. An Analysis of the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas
An Analysis of the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas In the autobiography Frederick
Douglass presents a clear picture to me of a horrifying period of American history that far too
few people understand. Douglass s personal narrative as a slave lets you feel the fear of his past
and allows us to experience the suffering and pain inflicted by underserved beatings and an
unhealthy lifestyle with too much physical exertion. Douglass expresses very personal feelings
about his history and helps us to understand the intense hatred and disgust the American slave had
for his possessor, and the sickness of hate that allowed human beings to keep other human being as
slaves. The typical American slave standard of living was worse than... Show more content on

This was quite the main perception to their teachings to their slaves as being incapable of
learning, fear kept the slaveholders from educating their slaves about the truth they consciously
new. Douglass became convinced that the only way men can be enslaved is by remaining
ignorant. This idea would pave the pathway to one of the greatest slave escapes of all time. The
violence slaves endured was the most vivid representation in Douglass portrayal of slavery in the
South. No emotion or rage was held back by slaveholders and no pity or sympathy was put forth
either. Cruelty and abuse were the only means of control the slaveholders believed would keep
order. The pain inflicted upon these individuals, even to the point of death in some cases, fueled the
typical master s obsession with domination and power. However, throughout Douglass s turmoil, his
religious faith remained exceptionally strong. At times he found himself questioning how might his
God allow him to endure such grueling circumstances, but he never let his curiosity hinder his
faith. He also questioned how a man could call himself a Christian and yet treat another human
being in such a humane manner. Douglass could never comprehend how the slaveholders were
able to justify slavery through their faith and church as some of his owners did. Frederick
Douglass narrative proved to be quite the learning experience for me. I was blind and couldn t

In her essay Against the Odds, and Against the Common Good, Gloria Jimenez attempts to
dismantle the appeal of state run lotteries. First, she takes advantage of conversational writing to
convey the reader s ethics by exploring syntactical techniques and using examples of clever
gambling advertisements. These components strengthen her argumenton the surface by creatively
appealing to emotionand reason. Jimenez unfortunately fails to create a convincing argument by
implementing several improper grammar techniques and a couple of fallacies, weakening the
credibility of her argument. Gloria Jimenez essay, while emotionally appealing, is incapable of
withstanding the criticism produced and created by a lack of grammatical expertise and writing
practices. In her essay Against the Odds, and Against the Common Good, Gloria Jimenez asserts
that states should not promote and advertize gambling. Jimenez lists many clever lotteryslogans that
are deceivingly interpreted. She also argues that these slogans advertise the advantages of gambling
and playing the lottery because the money supposedly goes to things such as education and social
service. Jimenez explains some arguments in favor of state run lotteries, such as free participation
and the creation of jobs, but argues that they are not relevant to the problem. She briefly touches on
a statistic claiming that low income individuals are more likely to spend money on lottery tickets
than their opposite, higher income

48. The generation gap in King Lear by Shakespeare
One of the underlying themes in Shakespeare s play, King Lear is the concept of the generation
gap. This gap is mainly illustrated between the family. The older generation is Lear himself, and the
younger generation consists of his daughters Goneril, Regan and Cordelia. In the second plot of the
play, Gloucester represents the older generation, and his sons, Edmundand Edgar exemplifies the
younger generation. Both younger generations can be divided into two distinct groups. Goneril,
Regan and Edmund are the villains in both the plots and Edgar and Cordelia are the loyal, faithful
children. This little twist adds to the effect of the generation gap in the play. There are many
comparisons that can be made and confrontations that occur... Show more content on

It is apparent that the younger generation is motivated by greed, power and lust. This potentially
made them more cunning and ruthless in their actions by exploiting the older generation s
vulnerability. Edmund s desire for Edgar s half of the inheritance, shows how benevolent a human
being can be. In Edmund s soliloquy in the beginning of[Act 1 scene 2] he planned to betray both
his father and half brother by forging a letter describing Edgar s intentions on Gloucester s
inheritance. Upon showing this letter to the gullible Gloucester, he ordered to have a contract out
for Edgar s head.
The daughters Goneril and Regan are inspired by their hunger for power and their lust for
Edmund. Once Goneril and Regan received their land, they immediately showed no respect to
Lear, who gave them the land. In [Act 1 scene 4] Goneril instructs her servant Oswald to show
utter disrespect for Lear. Oswald complies and enrages Lear. Soon Lear will find that his two
daughters have no loyalties to him.
As it turns out, there is no loyalties within each other. In [Act 5 scene 3] Goneril has poisoned her
own sister, in hopes of capturing Edmund s love. However, Edgar and Cordelia are exceptions to
this generalization. Their actions are very noble and they show great amounts of integrity. In the
beginning of [Act 4 scene 1] Gloucester has decided to end his own life. Edgar, knowing his father
s intentions,

Although majority of the participants said that they assumed media representations had
negative impacts on other lesbians identities and lesbian communities, it was also brought up
that it could and can be used as a positive influence on identity. One of the examples given by one
of the participants was the media s use in helping her realize she was a lesbian in the first place
by portraying lesbian women that she began to have sexual feelings for. Another women had
explained that she felt if a young girl was struggling with sexuality, media could possible provide
the outlet for her to not only learn about lesbian relationships but to help identify herself as one
as well. It is through Gomillion s article that we can relate to the medias positive influence on
lesbian identity where she explains, media had influenced self realization, coming out, and
current identities by providing role models and inspiration and also media role models serve as
sources of pride, inspiration, and comfort (330). We can see that media has the potential to aid
and contribute positivity to lesbians self identity, if only we can move from the stereotypical and
unrealistic representations so dominantly used. The participants also expressed a sense of media s
growing potential to have a positive influence on lesbian identity. The history of lesbian invisibility
and the vast number of lesbians and lesbian relationships currently on mainstream media has the
potential to greatly impact how lesbians are viewed and thus how they may look at themselves. As
lesbianism becomes more of a norm and less of a fetish and a broader variety of lesbian women are
brought into the mainstream hopefully including different races, classes, abilities,

The Mission Inn Walking the streets through Downtown Riverside, it s hard to miss the giant
castle esque structure that takes up an entire city block. The Mission Inn s Spanish architecture
and lush green variety of trees and bushes can be seen from a mile away. Taking an aerial view of
Downtown Riverside allows one to see what sets this entire city block apart. The tops of every
building that make up the Inn are colored a foreign maroon red which greatly contrast with the
rest of the city s boring gray rooftops. The structure makes a giant upside down horseshoe shape
which is centered around a gorgeous sparkling pool, which itself is surrounded by a ring of
greenery that encompasses the entire center of the U shape. Behind the U are several wings that
make up the rest of the Inn, which include rooms for guests to stay in and all of the other
commodities that the hotel has for visitors, such as a museum filled with artwork and artifacts, and
several different dining options.
Before entering the ancient luxurious Spanish castle through the main entrance, one walks through
walkways filled with rich shrubbery and plants that line the wall and the fence closest to the street.

The Cold War was a period from 1947 to 1991 that adhered erratic tension and constant threat of
nuclear conflict between the two remaining superpowers that emerged from WWII, the U.S. and
the Soviet Union. The 1964 film Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love
the Bomb, directed by Stanley Kubrick, depicts the overlying themes of the Cold Warin a comedic
fashion. This film s full embodiment of the Cold War is seen through its representation of the time
period, and the sheer competitiveness between the United States and Russia. Additionally, due to

General alone goes rogue and sends the missiles toward Russia. This puts the U.S. President in an
immensely tight scenario.
The film delves into some of the difficult options leaders have to choose from in cases involving
nuclear weapons. Nuclear conflicts are extraordinarily complex, with many potential
unpredictable outcomes. After General Ripper directs his plane to bomb the enemy, he
describes his thought process to one of his officers, ...when [the president s advisors] realize
there is no possibility in recalling the wing there will be only one course of action: open, total
commitment . Here, a total commitment consists of the U.S. supporting General Ripper s plan by
utilizing their full arsenal of nuclear weapons to attack Russia. General Buck Turgidson, one of
the President s top advisors, echoes this exact idea in the war room and proposes to the U.S.
President a full commitment. This was a possible solution that could have neutralized all of Russia
in one wave of nuclear missiles; however, this strategy is frowned upon and dismissed by the
President as it would reflect poorly on the U.S. diplomatic reputation in the long run.
An aspect of the Cold War that Kubrick focuses on is the blatant lack of trust between the
conflicting nations. In a scene where a Russian Ambassador is being brought into the war room by
the U.S. President to help determine a mutual solution,
