came with her brother “Y” to save Dukhe. “Y” defeated & cornered “T”, but Gazi Pir convinced “X” not to
harm “T”. In return, Dukhe was given a lots of wax, honey, & valuables. After returning Dukhe popularised the
worship of “X” in the neighbouring areas. Later, Dukhe, who had became the chief of the village.

Alivardi Khan became Nawab of Bengal in April 1740 by defeating and killing Sarfaraz Khan. His
seizure of power was challenged by Sarfaraz Khan's brother-in-law Rustam Jung, who enlisted the
backing of “Y”.
From 1741 to 1751, the Bargis under “Y” invaded Bengal six times.
• The first one in 1741, as also the third in 1744, was led by “Y”'s general+dewan “Z”.
• Bargis perpetrated atrocities against the local population of Western Bengal and Bihar and plundered villages.
Estimates are that 400,000 civilians in were killed. Accounts report mass gang rape against women, and
mutilation of victims.
• On 30 March 1744 Alivardi Khan invited “Z” and other leaders to entertainment at Mankara, near
Katwa in a large tent. They were not aware of the assassins in the shadows, employed by Alivardi
Khan. The assassins killed all of the 21 leaders. The head of “Z” was brought before Alivardi Khan.
This turn of events enraged “Y” and he conducted brutal annual raids into Bengal, until 1751.

history, even more so. One of those streets is the curiously named “A” in Baghbazar
in North Calcutta.
The street name refers to an trench approximately 5 km long trench that was excavated
in 1742 along what was then the northern extremity of Calcutta.
Its purpose was to form a perimeter around the city of Calcutta, to protect the British from Bargis. Bargis
never did attack Calcutta, in all probability being paid off by the British. This trench was entirely funded
by taxes paid by Indians

planning to bowl a googly to John Edrich, an English batter, But Dilip Sardesai shouted, “Hey Chandra,

Considering Dilip’s understanding of the sport, he did so and got Edrich out. Chandrasekhar’s 6 for 38
spell helped India win that match.
Now of course my question to you is about X. But I must tell you that X is nothing related to a form of
bowling. It is rather a famous animal which was extremely popular in a certain genre of sports.

community who were fishermen by profession moved to this island when it became
liveable before late 19th century.

Ganguly went to a community in Kolkata and arranged a meeting. Das and Ganguly urged

In 1924 they also took part in Satyagraha movement in Tarakeswar which sparked controversy
among the so called stereotypical elite class of Calcutta. And in 1925 when Das died, they also

In the autobiography of Debendranath Thakur published by Satish Chandra Chakrabarty, it

77. This 71.2 cm high and 172 cm long mechanical toy features a life-sized wooden animal mauling
a European soldier. When activated, the mechanism produces sounds to mimic the soldier's
cries of distress, while the animal emits roaring noises. The figure of the soldier is depicted in
British military attire, symbolizing the defeat of British forces by X during battles in the 18th
century.
The internal workings of this automated toy are intricate and innovative for its time. The animal
contains a concealed compartment that houses a bellows mechanism to generate the sounds,
which are then channelled through a series of pipes to create the roaring and the soldier's cries.
The artifact was eventually taken as spoils of war by the British East India Company after they
defeated X's forces in just before the beginning of 19th century. It was then transported to
England and became part of the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London,
where it remains on display to this day.

80. On 29th November, 2016 Chief Judicial magistrate of X district had ordered
registering a case against Moti Singh and Swaraj Puri who were the collector and
Superintendent of Police of X three decades earlier.
Moti Singh writes in his book that “Same day on an urgent call, I along with SP met the
chief secretary at around half past two in the afternoon…The CS said Y was to be sent
to New Delhi immediately by the state plane which was ready at the airport. He also
directed that this plane must take off by 3 o’clock.”
On escorting Y, Moti Singh writes, “With a view to maintain secrecy, neither there was
any pilot vehicle nor any follow guard. My driver was driving the car, SP was sitting on
the front and I was with Y in the rear…. Then (we) went straight to the airport. Y left X
by the state plane and reached Delhi in the night.”

83. X was a college student when John L Kelly of California University came to visit Patna in an
international conference. Awestruck by X’s sheer talent, Kelly invited him to come to California
University for research. He did so.
After amassing a number of degrees, X started working as an assistant professor at the University of
Washington. He also worked at NASA, during the Apollo missions in 1969 and it is said that he helped
out with the mathematical calculations during the mission. In an article from The Indian Express, his
brother talks about this event and he says “He is the ‘NASA scientist’ who fixed a glitch in the space
agency’s computers that had backed up ‘moments before the launch of the Apollo human spaceflight
mission”.
In 1971, he returned to India where he worked at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, the
Indian Statical Institute (ISI), Kolkata and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai.
It is during this time that his mind began to fail and he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. He went
missing in the year 1989 and was found four years later in 1993 in the streets of Patna picking up rags.
However, he was taken care of from then and died in 2019.

89. Born on 1st January,1976, X was brought up in the slums of Bangalore. As a kid
he would run away to Mumbai along with some of his friends. He used to live on
the pavements of Mumbai, near Churchgate railway station.
Luckily, one day, a lady invited him to join an acting workshop. She promised
him Rs 20 a day, as well as lunch. The only condition was he would have to attend
the classes daily. His other friend ran away, afraid it might be some sort of a
racket. But X took a chance for he knew he had nothing to lose.
Fast forward to 1999, X’s name came up in newspapers for hitting a middle-aged
woman. He was driving his auto-rickshaw when he accidentally hit the lady in
Bangalore. He spent three days in jail. And he has been living his days as an auto
driver. In May 2012, he started working with a production company and became
an assistant there. The company made Kannada television soaps.
