The International Nuclear Information System (INIS) was established in 1970 by the International Atomic Energy Agency to facilitate the exchange of information on the peaceful use of nuclear technology. INIS maintains the world's largest collection of published literature on nuclear science and technology, containing over 3.4 million citations and abstracts as well as 350,000 full-text documents. Membership in INIS is open to states in the IAEA and other international organizations, and currently includes 129 countries and 24 organizations.

INIS Objectives To facilitate the exchange of information on the peaceful use of atomic energy To make available online access to a unique collection of non-conventional literature Organizes the world's nuclear information and making it universally accessible Represents a wealth of experience and an extensive pool of information in the nuclear field 21-02-2016 3
Membership Membership in INIS is open to : States which are members of the IAEA United Nations organizations International or intergovernmental organizations with whom the IAEA has relations To join INIS, a formal request needs to be made by the appropriate national/institutional authority to the Director General of the IAEA At present, 129 countries and 24 international organizations are INIS Members Benefits of INIS Membership access information in the nuclear fields right to access nuclear information of all other INIS Members access & visibility to country's national nuclear related literature helps in establishing and improving National INIS Centres helps to transfer modern information technology and know –how 21-02-2016 4

Products & Services Newsletter Capacity Building (through various training programs) Publications - multilingual INIS Thesaurus in English, French, German, Russian and Spanishas Atomindex: The semi-monthly regular bulletin which was earlier published by INIS i.e. INIS Atomindex. It contains bibliographic references and abstracts, indexes by author, corporate author, subject, conference report number, patent number or standard number INIS were used to send information output on magnetic tapes every month to each member state along with two Atomindex issue 21-02-2016 7
