The International Nuclear Information System (INIS) was established in 1970 by the International Atomic Energy Agency to facilitate the exchange of information on the peaceful use of nuclear technology. INIS maintains the world's largest collection of published literature on nuclear science and technology, containing over 3.4 million citations and abstracts as well as 350,000 full-text documents. Membership in INIS is open to states in the IAEA and other international organizations, and currently includes 129 countries and 24 organizations.

States which are members of the IAEA
United Nations organizations
International or intergovernmental organizations with whom the IAEA has relations
To join INIS, a formal request needs to be made by the appropriate
national/institutional authority to the Director General of the IAEA
At present, 129 countries and 24 international organizations are INIS

The semi-monthly regular bulletin which was earlier published by INIS i.e. INIS
Atomindex.
It contains bibliographic references and abstracts, indexes by author, corporate
author, subject, conference report number, patent number or standard number
INIS were used to send information output on magnetic tapes every month to each
member state along with two Atomindex issue
