Bihar, India. His papers on the Number Theory
were published in the Mathematical
Spectrum and The Mathematical Gazette
and he soon got an admission in the Cambridge
University.
4. However, after the death of his father, Kumar
discontinued his studies at the University
due to financial instability. He moved back
home and started working as a tutor for
students along with continuing his own study on
mathematics.
5. He would commute to Varanasi every weekend
to visit the Central Library, BHU. There, he
rented a classroom for Rs 500 a month, and
established the Ramanujam School of
Mathematics (RSM).
6. Students grew in number exponentially each
year and one fine day, a student from an
economically backward class arrived at his
doorstep. The student, who sought coaching for
IIT-JEE, motivated him and thus, Kumar
embarked upon the journey of the Super 30
program.
7. Ever since 2003, Kumar now holds a
competitive test to select 30 students from
economically backward sections from the nation
whom he would train for the IIT-JEE. His
mother would cook for the students as
Kumar tutored them.
8. Out of the 270 students who have enrolled in
the program, 236 have cracked the examination
and the year 2010 marked the 100% clearance
of the exam for the third year in a row.
9. Kumar’s works have been recognised
worldwide and his program has also been
listed amongst the Best of Asia in 2010 in the
Time’s magazine.
