A project developed by African students in a German University with the aim of contributing their knowlegde and resources available to tackle environmental problems in Ghana.
Sustain Lives International began the organisation of the Project SEMA on the 17th of November, 2017. We visited
the offices of the various stakeholders of the project, which included the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of
Health, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, the National Youth Authority and the Environmental Protection Agency.
We discussed our project with the above mentioned authorities and requested their support to ensure a successful
project implementation. We frequently visited the Agbogbloshie scrapyard to interact with the target community
and see how best to implement the project.

ACTIVITY ONE: STAKEHOLDERS MEETING ON THE 7.12.2017
Sustain Lives International began the organisation of the Project SEMA on the 17th
of November, 2017. We visited
the offices of the various stakeholders of the project, which included the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of
Health, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, the National Youth Authority and the Environmental Protection Agency.
We discussed our project with the above mentioned authorities and requested their support to ensure a successful
project implementation. We frequently visited the Agbogbloshie scrapyard to interact with the target community
and see how best to implement the project.
On the 7th
of December, after working tirelessly to organise the entire project, we had our successful Stakeholders
meeting which saw in attendance 31 members of the scrap dealers association, representatives from the
Environmental Protection Agency, a lecturer from the University of Mines and Technology (who was the Chairman
of the meeting) as well as representatives from the various media houses. Unfortunately, we learnt that the scrap
dealers had lost a member of the association through sickness.
We launched our project after the acceptance and appreciation of the Chairman and Secretary of the Scrap dealers
association. They were very impressed with our initiative and pledged their full support to ensure a clean and safety
environment for the entire community and Ghana at large. After the event, we had refreshment for the scrap
dealers who enjoyed their meals and went back to the burial grounds of their dead colleague. This was the program
outline of the day.

We encountered a lot of delays from the time of purchase until shipment to Ghana.
The machine was shipped on the 13th

Processes to clear the machine from the harbour are still on-going and we hope to install it at the
scrapyard sooner than later. Here is a picture of the purchased machine:

Total project expenditures
€ € € €
2017 1,255 1,882 9,413 12,550
In total, Sustain Lives International was supposed to receive 10,668.00 € from Geninsa, however, Geninsa paid only 9163 € because
they had to payback some money to North-South bridge foundation due to the reason that our project was a small one. That means
from Sustain Lives donors and some personal funds, we provided 1505 € (800€ and 700€ respectively).
