10. Example Script: In the Internet of Things, it’s not about things, it’s about service. Can you offer new services to your customers? Can you offer better service to them? Can you transform from being product focused to being service focused?   A good example is John Deere. The Internet of Things enabled them to transition from being just an equipment manufacturer to being a service provider. As an equipment provider, they sold you just a tractor. But they got the majority of their revenue at the POS, their engagement with customers were transaction-based, and the focus on the relationship was about the product. But today, that tractor is using sensors and other technology to provide farmers with better service, such as reporting on average fuel consumption and tractor performance. But on top that John Deere is offering wholly new services such as real time weather information, even real-time soil analysis. IoT has enabled them to have ongoing engagement with farmers, gives them insight into how their products are being used, and even allows them to offer new sets of services and tap into new revenue streams.   And that’s really the benefit of IoT, it allows you to continuously connect with your customers through your devices and applications.
