 Japanese fashion became internationally
popular in the 1980s
 Almost every fashion trend in Japan comes
from Tokyo
 It’s known for its more outlandish fashion
trends

 Majority of schools require strict dress code, some
even limiting hair length/styles and the like
 Younger generations use clothes to express
themselves individually as opposed to a part of
something a group

LOLITA
 Started in 70s
 Supposed to look like Victorian dolls, uses a
lot of lace.
 Has many sub groups, such as pastel-lolita,
gothic-lolita, kimono-lolita, ect…

GYARU
 Means ‘Gal’, you might recognize the term Ganguro
 Most commonly dressed in bright colors with light dyed
hair and darkened skin.
 Excessive make-up, sometimes with extensions.
 Usually don’t plan on having a career or settling
down(what’s expected)

DECORA
 Short for Decoration, also known as Dekora
 Wear as much colorful clothing and accessories as
possible

 Crop tops
 Dolman Sleeve tops
 Sheer tops
 High waist pants/skirts/shorts
 High top sneaker wedges
 Platform sandals
 Sheer striped/patterned ankle socks
