Visual, technical and auditory codes were used to provoke emotional responses in viewers of an excerpt from a modern adaptation of Jekyll and Hyde. These codes included editing, lighting, sound, cinematography, mise en scene elements like costumes and props, performance, color, and special effects. By exploring these codes, viewers can identify the techniques used to cause fear, laughter, and other reactions in a short film extract.
2. Jekyll Jekyll is modern re-imagining of the story of Jekyll and Hyde . Although a lot more subtle than the original novel and early films it still provides audiences with a range of experiences and provokes emotional response. Watch the following five minute extract and make a note of the main emotions you experience.
3. Reactions As you can see we have experienced a wide range of emotions in just a short extract. But what is causing this? The writers, crew and cast have all worked together to try and evoke the same reactions. Watch the extract once more and try to identify what techniques have been used to cause your reactions. Try to be as specific as possible in your descriptions.
