This document provides journal entry prompts and instructions for a 8th grade social studies student. It explains that the student must write a full page in their own words for each prompt without skipping lines. The prompts include imagining life near the Nile thousands of years ago, taking a guess at why the Sphinx was built and what it represents, explaining why the Rosetta Stone was valuable, discussing what they think about archaeology and whether they would want to be an archaeologist, and comparing real archaeologists to the fictional character Indiana Jones. The entries are due by August 8th and students can do outside research but must write the entries in their own words.

JOURNAL ENTRIES – THIRD PARTIAL
Below you will find the Journal entries corresponding to the second partial. It must be
ready by August 8th. Write down a whole page, without skipping a line, and using your
own words.
If you must do some research, use books, internet or any other means you may find, but
remember, that you must write down everything using your own words. Use the facts
found during the research to make your writing more vivid. Use the guidelines given
below, for every entry to have a better idea on what you may write about.
The Nile
o What World your life be like if you lived near the Nile, thousands of
years ago? Describe the area where you live.
The Sphinx

they built it or what it represents. Take a guess!
Rosetta Stone
o Why do you think the Rossetta Stone was so valuable for
archaeologists and historians?
Archaeology
o What do you think about archaeology? Would you be one?
Indiana Jones

know who he is, watch a movie called “Indiana Jones: Raiders of the
Lost Arc”.
